DISCLAIMER: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! nor the characters involved in this work of fiction. This has been written without motive for profit or violation of copyrighted material, and the writer has only created this work for personal amusement to be shared with others. Yay. That saves my ass.

    On with the fic!!

    ~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~

    Chapter One: Patricide

    "Please? Couldn't we? Just once?!"

Always so manipulative... How could anyone deny eyes like that?

"...Alright, but only for an hour, and then we'll come straight back!"

Eyes that had never seen even the sun that, to anyone else, was as constant in the universe as their own breath. Always, only the moonlight and the foul luminance of lamp oil were for him to see by. To hear of someone who had not seen the sun in their life was tragic, and so he was a tragedy. It was human nature to pity such a thing, that innocence had been tortured without ever aware of its own pain.

    "It's so bright...!"

So many people passing by, all aware of themselves and yet, aware of nothing. Oblivious to sandy strands that bounced amongst them, of marked eyes flitting over every detail of human testament to the existence of itself. Of every detail he knew, in another sun's crawl, he had the chance to never see again.

"Malik, don't wander away. Stay where I can see you!"

A man in a leather jacket letting brown hair is tossed by the ruthless breeze that his bike ripped through. The small Egyptian stood there, transfixed.

    "What's the matter boy?"

"How do the pictures move in the box?"

"Malik, I told you not to wander away! It's time to go, stop looking so conspic!"
I'm going to ride one of these, right out of this cave, and into the sunset...

With more endearment than he possessed for things he'd known in his years, the paper he had become intimate with in mere minutes, he placed onto one of the stone remnants of his ancestry, and placed another stone over it. For the life of him he would remember where it was, and come back for it. After that, it was a short sprint to the enclosement he considered his prison, and the pang hit him.

...I like it out in the sun... In the light. No one should be away from the light. ...Why should I? Tradition? "...Stupid tradition."

~That day, what I had thought was a harmless gesture to connect Malik to the most real part of his humanity and grant him that one little wish, darkness was born in him... And then...~

"Oh no! ...A trap! I must not have seen it in the dark... Rishid...!"

Panic flooded through him. This had been so selfish! One hour in the sun, to be normal, and Rishid was now in trouble! Even if the man was not his brother of blood that had never stopped them from being as close as brothers could be. Patters of slippers were erratic, distant, and not fast enough as far as the consuming throb of his heart in his ears was concerned.

This isn't fair...! None of this has ever been fair!

Feet filled with lead and weighed him in place behind his sister at the sight that greeted them.

    Rishid... You didn't deserve this...

Father's never been loving of you. You've always been so loyal to our family, even if you weren't born of it. ...Father has no right doing this to you. No right!

His elder sister let go of a squeak at being shoved to the side so violently by a boy so much smaller than her. Desperation was in every fiber of him.

Let me help you... Let me hurt him... Let me give him back every bit of pain he's given you. Oh, let me bestow such beautiful agony upon him. Engrave it on his soul that he has wronged us.

...Destroy him...! Destroy everything... This world wronged us, as he did. Deprived us the right to live in it, as natural as it should be for us to do so. Our ancestors worshipped the disk in the sky... Feared it would never return without His graces, from the Underworld... We deserve it as much as any, to walk this world! ...They denied us such a simple thing as living.

Attention came around again in a thick wave of nausea, feeling metal in hand that was only warm by the embrace of small fingers. Vision fixed itself to markings on flesh, brutal scars made in testament to an undying loyalty. Gold clattered to the floor as he wailed and clutched his head.

Freedom... This is what it means, to be free. This is the price one pays, for this absolute liberty. No fetters upon this soul of yours, this soul of mine... You're free to do what I allow you to do, now.

No sense was being made in his head, but still there was a comfort found in the arms wrapped around him. The murmurs of consolation. Maybe everything would be okay. Thoughts were still hazy, lolling his head to get his bearings. ....Never once, save one night, did he remember seeing so much red. The beat of the life's blood on everything he saw pounded in his own head, eyes drawing wide to the heap of existence excused to the worlds beyond. Rishid quickly used his body to obstruct the view.

    "Master Malik, don't look!"

"The Pharaoh has returned... And his judgment..."

    The Pharaoh did this...?

It's so easy to believe that... I'll let him, for a little while... It's so easy to control a life that lives for all the wrong reasons.

    ~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~*_~

A/N: So.... that was the first chapter. Truly, mostly only a recapsulation of the events that led up to Malik's disorder. Crucial, for developing the character and feel of the author. In any case, as all writers.

I look forward to reviews and comments, especially as this is my first fanfic. Respond, flame, criticize all you want. Won't change what I do, just to let ya know ahead of time. As posted in the disclaimer, I'm doing this for me, and just wanna share it with others.

Until next time! *POOFs into a bat and flitters away*
