Prologue
Yami frowned, he was awake but he had yet to open his eyes. Something didn't feel right. The bed on which he lay currently felt nothing like the one he’d fallen asleep in the night before...for a moment he played around with the thought that he might be dreaming and so he waited a few moments more to see what the dream would progress to, however, a few minutes later nothing changed.
'How strange…' he thought. While resting he realized why he was feeling so anxious...he couldn't feel Yugi! Trying not to panic and with his eyes still closed he slid one slender hand slowly out to the side; searching for the familiar bedside table that housed the sennen puzzle. The slender limb, however, encountered nothing but air near the side of the bed.
'Is it me or is this bed smaller...' thought Yami, his frown deepening. 'What the Hell is going on?!' Yami's eyes snapped open as he sat up in bed. "Where the hell am I?!" yelled Yami his eyes widening abnormally as he took in his surroundings. He appeared to be in a small, sparsely furnished room of in a mud hut. Getting to his feet he moved over to a wall just to ascertain that it was indeed made of mud. 'Where in Japan do they make huts out of this stuff in these times...and how did I get here?' wondered Yami as his hand came away from the wall. He couldn't see his sennen puzzle anywhere and he couldn't feel Yugi. He closed his eyes and attempted to withdraw into his soul room, opening his eyes a few seconds later he found that his position hadn't changed and he began to actually feel fear.
Turning around to study the room once more and find a way out he noticed a door across from him which was just opening.
"Ate--oh good, you're awake! Why are you standing around here like that? Put this on!" said the strange dark haired woman standing before him holding out a robe after letting herself into the moderately sized bedroom.
Looking at the robe and the woman in confusion Yami suddenly felt chilly...looking down he realized why...he was naked!
"Gaahh!!" he yelped quickly grabbing and donning the robe while turning varying shades of red and looking away.
"Come now Atemu now is not the time for your antics. We have much to do before you are to be presented to the Pharaoh," said the woman in a brisk tone peppered with amusement.
'Atemu?! Presented...to...Pharaoh?!' Yami was now thoroughly confused.
"Who are you?" asked Yami quietly, a direct contradiction to the panicky thoughts raging through his mind.
"Don't be silly child, we have no time for your eccentrics, no amount of yelling, pleading, acting or screaming changed your father's mind before and it won't change it now. Quite frankly you are being quite selfish and immature," said the woman her face and voice losing the warmth of earlier.
"I don't understand...what's going on?" asked Yami feeling suddenly weary, confused and slightly scared. Only yesterday he'd spent the day with Yugi and the gang at the mall, only last week he'd given up on his unrequited love for Seto Kaiba, and now he was stuck in this weird dream. Things couldn't possible get any worse...at least he hoped they wouldn't.
"Are you really going to stand there and tell me that you don't remember that today is the day you are to be given to the Pharaoh so this village may be spared the Pharaoh's wrath? Do you want your people to suffer? Why are you being so stubborn? You need to pull yourself together because whether or not you like it this is happening and it is not going to go away simply because you wish it to! It is best to accept your fate, it will be easier that way," said the exasperated woman.
Yami was shocked; all he could get past his seizing throat were the words, "Given to...the Pharaoh? As...what?” he gulped suddenly wishing he had water to sooth his parched throat.
"Atemu...as his newest concubine of course, we've been through this before, would you like some...Atemu!" was the last thing Yami heard as unconsciousness claimed him.
His parting thought before he passed out completely was, 'Is it possible to pass out in a dream?'
~~
Meredith sighed in a way that suggested long suffering as she caught the young man before his decent to the ground caused any bodily harm. Couldn't very well present the Pharaoh with damaged goods now could they, although from what she'd heard about the Pharaoh, Atemu would not remain undamaged or untouched for long...sighing she decided it wasn't her place to think such things. There wasn't much that could be done to help him. This had to be done for the good of the village and its people...one life as opposed to thousands.... it was for the best.
Dragging Atemu's prone form towards the bed she placed him upon it before beginning to gather the things she needed from the room. Then she left the room delivering instructions to the guards outside to gather Atemu and bring him out to the awaiting carriage as she went to retrieve what ever else would be needed from the house to prepare Atemu for the Pharaoh.
The water at the bath house should be just about right; she'd gone there and instructed the women there on what was to go into the water when it was the right temperature before stopping to awaken Atemu. Now all that was left was to get Atemu to the bath house where he was to be bathed, dressed and made-up in preparation for his journey to the Pharaoh's palace which he would reach at the moment when the sun was directly overhead at midday.
With a sigh she climbed into the coach in which Atemu's prone form lay frowning at the fact that he had yet to awaken from his faint. 'Maybe it's for the best this way' she thought as she called for them to move.
~~
'Unfamiliar voices...' was the first thought through Yami's fuzzy mind as he slowly began to come back to the land of the living. 'Hopefully I'm in the real world now...' his thought was brought to an abrupt halt as he felt hands with soft cloths rubbing along his damp naked body...they were all over, his hair, his chest, his legs...down there making sure not a drop of moisture remained where they swept. Yami's eyes snapped open ready to fight whoever it was off of him.
However the first thing he saw gave him pause for thought...'Wow what a beautiful mural...' he thought looking above him...that is before a hand came around him or more specifically his genitals again.
"Oi!! Stop!!" he yelped pulling away so viciously that the hands in his hair very nearly ripped some clumps of the tri-colored mass right off his head. "What the fuck are you doing?! Get away from me!!" he yelped this time successfully pulling away from the hands and grasping a drying cloth he'd snatched from one of the many hands to cover himself with.
"Master Atemu! Please; you fainted earlier and we were continuing with your preparations! As it stands we are running behind time already! We must continue if you are to be presentable on time! We simply cannot disappoint the Pharaoh!" declared one of the unrecognizable faces.
"Let's get some things straight...first and foremost I am NOT being presented to any Pharaoh! Secondly who the fuck are you people and where the hell am I?!" shouted Yami, determined to get some answers even if everyone was looking at him funny. He still couldn't feel Yugi and that's what was freaking him out the most, after virtually living with Yugi's presence always there in his mind he felt so alone now...with no one familiar to talk to.
"Maid Meredith! Master Atemu's delirious! Did he hit his head when he fainted?!" asked an unknown voice.
Yami was about to spout off a retort about the 'delirious' comment when he caught sight of a familiar face amongst the throng currently gawking at him; well if he could consider the harried-looking face of the woman who'd come into his room in that strange hut earlier familiar.
"No he didn't...I think the shock is only now starting to hit him, although he should have already accepted his fate," said Meredith, sighing she continued "However, that is no excuse for delay. Shiel! Bring the Morpheus Dust!"
"Right away Meredith!" replied a voice and one of the faces moved quickly away before returning and holding out a vial filled with pale blue powder to Meredith with her head bowed.
"I'm sorry Atemu..." she murmured opening the vial before ordering sharply "Hold Him!!"
"What the---Let me Go!! Stop It! Don't!" shouted Yami struggling as much as he could as the vial was brought closer to his nose, it was no use. A sweet scent filled his senses and suddenly he could see and feel no more.
"Now then," said Meredith capping the vial "Get Atemu prepared and ready for departure. We've wasted enough time. I'll be back within the hour and not a minute later to inspect him" she finished as she walked out of the room as the women moved Atemu's yet again unclothed body to a silk draped chaise; to begin the first stages of bodily preparations traditional to their village for many millennia.
~~
Meredith looked across at the figure elegantly draped across the raw silk covered seat opposite her. His jewel-colored robes elegantly arranged around his prone, slender form. Her eyes traveled from his petit silk-slipper clad feet, up and over the slender, shapely limbs that were his legs which were covered by the outer robes. She knew that a kilt, woven from the finest silk, as light and fine as butterfly wings, currently encircled his slender waist and upper thighs. Also covered by the beautiful robes was the newly added ruby belly ring, which would truly shine when Atemu did the 'Dance of Giving' for the Pharaoh. His chest was covered by the robes as well and beneath those was a sleeveless midriff tunic made of the same material used for the kilt. His wrists, upper arms and upper thighs bore bands of engraved gold. Around his neck sat a gold choker encrusted with rubies, with a flared gold crescent-collar rested along his collar bone in the front and along his shoulder blades at his back. His ears each held an earring in the shape of a stylized Ankh and upon his forehead he wore a gold tiara with the sennen eye engraved into its surface, a ruby at the eye's center. His face was beautifully made up, powdered with a bronze glitter powder that covered his entire body, eyelids dusted with a slightly darker bronze powder from that which covered his body, eyes lined with kohl, lengthy eyelashes curled to perfection and to top of the entire image, his hair, that interestingly tri-colored mass in it's regal upstanding style.
"You really are a sight to behold young Master," murmured Meredith quietly to herself. "I hope the Pharaoh appreciates you as well as your beauty...and that you come to some form of compromise with yourself over what you have been forced to become for the sake of your people.
Her thoughts came to a halt when she noted movement from the seat across from her before a low groan was emitted from the body. A slim hand was moved briefly before it stopped, then it was raised to the curious, hazy crimson gaze of it's owner who then proceeded to examine the lengthy gold wrist band that went almost halfway up his arm. The other arm followed suit before he blinked a few times. Deciding that Atemu was grounded enough Meredith spoke up.
"Nice of you to join me. I hope a repeat of earlier is not warranted," she said looking him in the eye as his eyes snapped to her face when she spoke.
Sitting up slowly and quietly Yami decided to try the civil approach. He didn't feel the need for a repeat dosage of the 'Morpheus Dust'.
"Where are we going?" he asked quietly, quelling any fears about not feeling Yugi. Looking around the inside of the coach they were moving in and taking in his clothes with wide eyes. "Why am I dressed like this?" he asked shifting slightly and feeling a slight twinge at his belly button he frowned raising a hand to the area.
"Belly ring. Do not aggravate it, the piercing is new," interrupted Meredith, causing his hand to halt immediately. Looking upon his confused features Meredith felt the need to explain though she knew he must have been told at some point what the process of 'preparation' entailed. "As part of your presentation, you are to dance for the Pharaoh to symbolize the giving of yourself for your people. The belly ring is said to enhance the performance."
"Dance?" gulped Yami looking apprehensive.
"Yes dance, do not worry, it is in your blood, simply let the music take control and you will be fine. You must not disappoint in this or any other tasks that befall you as one of the Pharaoh's concubines, for many a man, woman and child's welfare rests upon your very shoulders. I wish you well my child for we approach the city now and there is no turning back," said Meredith as calmly as she could.
Yami remained quiet, avidly contemplating his circumstances. By all points he appeared to be---for lack of a better word---fucked, not just fucked but majorly fucked, theoretically fucked and soon to be literally fucked, forget literally...more like royally fucked. Yami's eyes widened, he swallowed convulsively and began to take deep breaths to calm himself while muttering alternatively "This isn't working. This isn't happening. This isn't working. This isn't happening..."
"Atemu!" snapped Meredith and continued when she got his attention, "You will see this through with the training and refinement that befits your station in life as your father's only son and heir to our village and its people. As I've said before...I'm sorry but...there is no alternative...NONE whatsoever...I'm sorry" she emphasized her apology before looking away out the carriage window.
Yami stopped muttering to himself after that stinging plea...considering he'd once been a Pharaoh he knew greatly about the sacrifices one had to make for the sake of his people...whether or not the idea was favorable...he had no choice but to go ahead with whatever plan was laid for him in this strange new world...at least until he found someone familiar who could explain just what was going on...
"We have arrived!" came a voice from outside the carriage.
"Now...I shall precede you to make sure that the carpet is laid for you...amongst other things, then one of the footmen will hand you down to the carpet. You will keep your chin raised, eyes front, facial expression aloof and walk at a leisurely pace till you reach your father's side..."
"My father? He's here?!" interrupted Yami shocked.
"Yes your father. He traveled here earlier this morning, before your preparation, to ensure everything was going as planned. Now, as I was saying, your father will take your left arm in the appropriate manner and you will both ascend the palace steps together after which he will lead you to the room where the ceremony is to be held. Any reasonable questions?" asked Meredith finally looking over at him.
"No...none, I...I simply need to compose myself," replied Yami sighing deeply. 'Oh well...there's nothing else that can be done,' he thought sighing once more.
Meredith said nothing more as the carriage door was opened and she exited. A minute later the door was reopened and the designated footman extended his hand to Yami. Yami stood and stepped elegantly from the carriage his face carefully blank. Out of the corner of his eye he noted Meredith giving a slight, almost imperceptible nod at his current posture and actions. Giving no hint that he noticed, he began the trek forward his robes creating the illusion that he floated over the red carpet. Gasps of awe could clearly be heard, differing in pitches as more and more of the City's people, nobles and commoners, managed to glimpse what they could of the Pharaoh's latest concubine. The sounds of surprise echoed the wonder of the different classes present; they'd expected the new concubine to be beautiful but confronted with the 'vision' before them the word 'beautiful' seemed an injustice to depict the features which graced this fallen angel.
What had once been a silent crowd slowly started to come to life as whispers of the concubine's unusual and unique beauty were shared. Upon reaching his father's side he glanced, out of curiosity, at the man who was his 'father' in this world. Yami blinked in surprise and almost turned in his shock and disbelief before he remembered Meredith's instructions. He took a few quiet breaths to calm himself before extending his left arm across his chest for his 'father' to clasp with his left.
They began to slowly climb the many steps to the main doors both their faces polite blank masks. However Yami's mask was decidedly slightly paler than when he first exited the carriage and his mind was rapidly going over the reason for this lapse in pallor. When he'd glanced at his 'father', his father had been none other than Yugi's Grandfather! Yami's mind began to rapidly go over his current circumstances and he wondered briefly how Yugi's Grandfather ended up in this weird world. This person couldn't be Yugi's real Grandpa...he was too in character for it to be an act. Yami's mind was racing crazily; things were confusing enough before...now this...
His hands started to tremble but a subtle squeezing of his captured hand stopped it and he decided to place all thoughts to the back burner for the moment. There'd be time enough for troubling thoughts. Right now he had to concentrate on pulling through for 'his village and people'. They were now walking along a hallway with guards standing on either side of the hallway approximately ten feet separating one from the next. Yami was lead through what seemed endless hallways before his 'father' drew to a halt before two imposing, decorated doors.
Turning to face Yami his father said, "Atemu...my first and only child...I thank you on behalf of myself, our village and our people for you are committing yourself to the ultimate sacrifice for our sakes," he said looking into Yami's eyes and Yami knew then that though this 'person' may look like Grandpa he definitely wasn't Grandpa...at least not mentally.
Realizing that the older man required some form of acceptance from him before they continued through the doors, Yami grimaced what he hoped passed as a small smile, if only to reassure the old man.
"Do not worry yourself. Everything will be fine," murmured Yami in a surprisingly calm voice not meeting his 'father's' eyes.
"Atemu...are you sure...?" he questioned quietly as he gently captured Yami's chin and turned it to face him.
Sighing once again, he seemed to be doing a lot of that today, he nodded, "Yes I'm sure...Let's get this over with" he said his voice colored with conviction.
His 'father' smiled before knocking twice on one of the two doors. The doors were swung open almost immediately and they slowly trekked into the spacious room. They halted halfway through the room and 'Grandpa' spoke.
"My Pharaoh, I have present my son, Atemu, as promised; we may begin at your leisure" he spoke loud and clearly giving Yami's hand a gentle squeeze of reassurance, while looking ahead at a figure, as yet undistinguishable by Yami. The figure's back was to them and so the only thing Yami could note about him was that he was tall...very tall. A cape flowed from proud, straight shoulders to trail behind on the floor and a Headdress sat upon the regal head and the figure seemed familiar...even with so little visible of the Pharaoh, he reminded Yami of someone...
'Hmmm...who in our world is that tall...has that posture...has that regal bearing so naturally ingrained...KAIBA!!' it wasn't his guess...it was who he was seeing! While he'd been studying the figure and trying to figure out whom he reminded him of from the back view; the Pharaoh had turned around and was now lancing him with a piercing glacial blue stare.
The Pharaoh continued to stare intently at Yami who'd once again, gone a few shades lighter than his current enhanced complexion. Then abruptly he moved forward halting six feet away and trailing his eyes from head to toe and back again over his new concubine.
"So...you are my latest bud to deflower and add to the ever growing bouquet that is my harem...and quite the exotic addition too," murmured the Pharaoh, the double meaning of his comment not lost on Yami whose eyes widened slightly.
Clearing his throat Yami's father said, as if on cue, "My Pharaoh, I give Atemu over to you with my blessings," before he walked forward, Yami's hand still held in his. Bowing his head he held Yami hand out to the Pharaoh in the traditional act 'Giving away the Bride'.
The Pharaoh reached out and took Yami's delicate hand into his, drawing Yami slowly forward and to his side before saying, "I accept your offering Shimon of Aucauld and hereby release Aucauld from any threat placed upon it. Your country and its people have my protection and blessings."
Shimon bowed low at the waist in a show of acceptance before stepping back and to the side, head bowed in reverence.
The Pharaoh turned to Atemu and looked into his eyes before he spoke again, "Come my bride, it is time for the ceremony to begin."
Yami managed a small smile; while on the inside his mind was scrambling to compute what-all had happened thus far since his wakening earlier that day; as they moved towards a finely robed man whom Yami figured was a priest. There was also five finely robed men and a finely robed woman, three on either side, they all stood waiting patiently. Upon reaching the Head Priest; a blonde, blue-green eyed, handsome High Priest moved forward holding a veil made of a light, airy, see-through material while the female High Priestess stepped forward holding a fine, long, gold necklace with an elegantly crafted Eye of Horus pendant that was almost the size of one of Yami's hands.
The Priestess motioned for Yami to lean forward slightly and quietly slipped the necklace over his head while giving various blessings in an ancient language. She then moved back into place and the blonde Priest gently placed the veil over Yami's face arranging it properly before he too stepped back. Then each of the remaining Priests except the one who was to perform the ceremony each made a blessing of sorts in the same ancient language as the Priestess before the Head Priest finally stepped forward.
The ceremony was about to begin...
