Summary: The balance of power in Jounouchi and
Seto’s relationship is not as it appears to the outside world. When the illusions are shattered, and the
truth is exposed to Seto’s greatest rival can their relationship survive what
he sees as Jounouchi’s transgression?
An antique
grandfather clock struck 6:00 p.m. sharp. The front entrance to Kaiba Manor opened without a sound, as the ‘master’ of the estate returned from
another grueling day spent at the corporation that bore his family name. Weary sapphire eyes quickly scanned the
foyer as he placed his briefcase down and hung his overcoat in the closet set
to the left of the entryway. The tight
lines of stress that pulled at the corners of his mouth began to ease as he headed
immediately to the family room, where he knew his arrival was expected. As he walked down the hallway, his silk tie
fluttered to the floor; a few steps further on, his wool/silk blend suit jacket
and shirt joined it. He was in a fowl
mood this night, and didn’t bother to pick up after himself; he was asking to
be punished. As he rounded the corner,
he stopped abruptly when he heard voices coming from the room that he was
approaching. Kaiba hesitated before he made
himself presentable. They had guests,
but the sign to indicate that he should keep ‘Kaiba’ in place had not been
present when he had entered the house.
There were very few people who actually knew about this side of their
relationship and, as there had been no sign that tonight was to be different,
he assumed that the person in the family room was another Dom that Master was
friendly with. He removed the last
vestiges of Kaiba Seto; shoes, socks, pants, and underwear lay in a heap upon
the floor. In his place stood his
master’s adored kitten, naked except for the half-inch silver collar around his
neck that announced his servitude. He
ran his hand over his cock, making sure that it was in a semi-erect state, and
pinched his nipples just enough so that they would pop… not to give himself
pleasure- he didn’t have Master’s permission for that, yet. He knew that it pleased his master when he
appeared before Him in an aroused state, and that Master would want his pet to be
shown in the best possible light to his guests.
Once he reached the door
to the family room, he stepped into his master’s line of sight and, with his
attention focused solely on Him, knelt on the floor in a graceful fluid
movement. With his knees and thighs
spread apart, his arms straight with his hands placed just above his knees, his
back arched and showcasing his well-toned chest, head bowed but eyes ever
watchful, he waited in the proper position for his master to acknowledge his
presence. Whatever his master was about
to say was replaced by a panicked “Oh FUCK”, and, from the right- just outside
of his field of vision- a surprised “Kaiba?” by his master’s guests.
A chill ran down Kaiba’s
spine, and his breath constricted as his chest clenched in absolute
horror. Without looking, he knew that
one of their unbreakable rules has just been broken: the rule that had been put into place when he and Jounouchi had
first begun this aspect of their relationship, the rule that stated that, under
no circumstances whatsoever, would any of Master’s friends, especially Motou
Yugi, know about their private life. And
now, not only did Motou Yugi know, but so did his loud mouthed,
couldn’t keep a secret if his life depended on it, boyfriend, Honda
Hiroto. For a moment, everything moved
in slow motion; all he could hear was the thump-bump of his heart pounding in
his ears. Even though he was naked, he
was able to call upon years of practice and, within seconds, the panicked slave
disappeared, to be replaced with the always stoic, always in control CEO, Kaiba
Seto. Inside he was still a complete
wreck, but none of that shone through when he addressed his guests, “Yugi,
Honda, I hope you will excuse me.” He
then left the family room with all the dignity that was Kaiba Seto without
acknowledging Jounouchi, who was still frozen in shock, and made his escape
toward the safety of his bedroom.
He was halfway down the hall
when Honda’s laughter reached his ears as he said, “Damn it, Jou; I always
figured you were the bitch in this relationship.” Even as those words sliced through his heart with the ease of a
double-edged sword, he couldn’t help the satisfied smirk that pulled at the
corners his mouth when he heard the sound of what he knew was Master’s fist
connecting with Honda’s jaw. “You two
better leave; I’ll talk to you later OK, Yug?
Honda, when you get the chance you better apologize to him,” he said in
a menacing tone of voice.
Seto could hear Jounouchi
coming down the hallway after him, but was not ready to face the blond or to
hear his excuses, so, instead of going upstairs to their bedroom, or even to
the room that Master allowed him as a sanctuary, he ducked into the library
when he came to it. He sat down in a
wingback chair near a large arched window and stared out with unseeing eyes at
the estate’s formal gardens. He
couldn’t believe that Jounouchi would do that to him. After what had just happened he couldn’t/wouldn’t think of him as
Master. He tried to brush it off as an
oversight, but was unable to. He
willingly gave Jounouchi absolute power over himself, but with that power came
responsibility and a few simple rules.
He had the latitude to push the boundaries of Seto’s comfort zone; in
fact, he was compelled to, but the items on that list were unequivocally and
completely off-limits. Some were sexual
limits, such as no feces play, and no bestiality. Others related to how they would conduct themselves publicly and
who would know. The list for who would
be privy to that information was a very short one; he had a regular
household staff of three very loyal and well-paid people who knew to keep their
mouths shut, two other Dom’s that Master had gotten to know, first over the
Internet and then personally, and his brother.
Granted, his brother had originally been on the list of people who
wouldn’t know but, because of their own carelessness, they had been found
out. Mokuba had barely spoken to him
for six weeks afterward and still treated Jounouchi as if he were a
pariah. As to who wouldn’t know, that
list was pretty much the rest of the world, but most specifically, anyone
connected to Kaiba Corp., and Jounouchi’s circle of friends, especially
Yugi. Of all of Jounouchi’s friends he
knew that Yugi would be the least judgmental; but the idea of someone that he
considered to be his main rival knowing something so personal and potentially
damaging about him, especially something that could be considered a weakness,
was unacceptable to him. He wasn’t sure
that he would be able to bear the pity that Yugi would most invariably be
inclined to bestow him with. How could
he explain that it wasn’t a weakness, or something to be pitied, just because
he needed to relinquish everything to Jounouchi? That it was something beyond a simple craving and that it was
more than just sexual? Would Yugi understand, and if he couldn’t, how could
anyone else understand that to serve his master as his most humble servant
brought Seto more satisfaction than any multi-million dollar deal ever
could? Surprising? Perhaps, but the lessons learned at the hand
of his adoptive father, the pressures laid on his shoulders from running Kaiba
Corp, and the strain of being a father to his brother had almost broken his
young psyche; the only way that he could deal with the demands of his
responsibilities was to give himself over to Jounouchi, mind, body, and
spirit. When he was at home, Jounouchi
was the boss of him, period. That is
not to say that he didn’t give his input when asked, but the final say in
anything was Jounouchi’s to make, and Seto would abide by it unquestionably. If not for his responsibilities as CEO of
Kaiba Corporation, he would have been quite content to serve his master full
time.
The reasons as to why Jounouchi would
have let this happen ran about in his brain as he sat in the chair, and none of
them were very satisfactory. There was
always the possibility that he did it on purpose-
that for some ungodly reason he saw fit to make their private
relationship public without discussing it with him first. He dismissed that line of reasoning almost
as soon as it had entered his head. He
knew that Jounouchi would never cross that line. If it wasn’t that, then the only conclusion Seto could come to
was that Jounouchi had just forgotten to put the rose in the vase when Yugi and
Honda had come over. That idea was
almost as ludicrous to Seto as the thought that he had done it intentionally.
Master would never forget something so important, Seto reminded himself.
‘But Jounouchi would,’ a little voice whispered in his head. ‘Yes but MASTER wouldn’t,’ he argued back,
and when he was in this house he was Master.
‘Except when Yugi was around, and then he let himself be Jounouchi,’ the
voice countered. ‘Maybe he’s tired of
being your Master; maybe he doesn’t want the job anymore and this is his way of
severing your bond, whether by accident, or, by design, this is his way of
telling you it is over. Your final
humiliation at his hands was a good one, wasn’t it, Seto?’ The brunet shook his head, trying to deny
the truth of the words spoken by his subconscious mind. He tried to stop the
leaps in logic that his mind had already made and accepted, but, just like
that, in Seto’s mind it was over, and there was no arguing against it. The rules had been broken, and his trust in
Jounouchi had been severely damaged.
It didn’t matter why it had happened,
only that it had, and that Jounouchi had done nothing to prevent it. To Seto’s logic, it meant that his master
was no longer capable of taking care of him.
There was nothing left. The
rules were simple; Jounouchi could and did do anything within the parameters
that had been laid out, and often pushed the boundaries, much to Seto’s
pleasure. To be sure, mistakes had
been made in their journey together, and sometimes the blond had pushed too
hard, or had gone too far, but, even as a slave, Seto could stop it whenever it
became too much. The past five years
had been a learning experience for them both.
A part of Seto wanted to believe whatever Jounouchi would tell him, and
continue on as always. But the more
practical side, the businessman, argued that, if he let Jounouchi get away with
this infraction, it wouldn’t be long before the other rules were violated and
Seto would no longer be a slave, but an abused and humiliated spouse. There was no gray area where their rules
were concerned; he obeyed his master’s every command, or paid the consequences
if he didn’t. In return, his master
respected his limitations.
Yugi and Honda had left shortly after he had entered the library,
and he had heard Jounouchi come back downstairs in his search for him. He knew that this wouldn’t be the first
place he looked and, from the direction of the sound of his footsteps, Seto
surmised that Jou was headed for the dungeon.
Why he would think that that would be where Seto was hiding out
bewildered the brunet. He couldn’t
honestly believe that they would be playing tonight, could he? But on second thought, ending it in there
would be quite fitting, and, with that in mind, he rose from his seat and
strode out of the library.
Still naked, he headed toward the basement and Jounouchi. He wasn’t even near the door leading to the
cellar when it burst open and Jounouchi came flying out, his desperation to
find his kitten evident on his face.
“Oh there you are; where’d you run off to, Kitten?” He asked panting and short of breath, as
relief washed over his face.
“I was in the library—thinking; not that it’s any of your concern,
Jounouchi.” He didn’t hide his
satisfaction upon seeing the blond flinch at his disrespectful tone of voice,
and the surprise on his face when the hand that had shot out automatically to
discipline his insolent kitten was stopped mid-strike. “No, Jounouchi,” he spat. “You lost that right the second Motou Yugi
laid his eyes on me, and you know it.
Just answer one question.
Why?” His voice broke, finally
betraying the utter humiliation and heartbreak that his master had caused him.
“Oh, Kitten, I don’t
know what happened.” Jounouchi said, as
he gathered the shaking Seto into his arms and held him tight.
As he stood trembling in
the comforting embrace of his master’s arms, Seto desperately wanted to forgive
Jounouchi this transgression, but couldn’t.
Even as his body calmed under the gentle touch and soothing words of his
master, the more logical side of his brain would not be quieted as it continued
to list the reasons of why this had to end.
Once he had stopped shaking and his breathing had returned to normal
again, he pushed Jounouchi away and went in search of his pants. For what he was about to do, he needed to
level the playing field, and being naked put him at an obvious
disadvantage. Neither man said a word
until Seto had put his trousers back on and then he asked Jounouchi again, in a
more even tone of voice this time, what had happened.
“Honestly
Kitten, I don’t know. I left the rose
in the vase like I always do…”
“Well it’s
not there now is it, Jounouchi?” Kaiba
said, cutting off whatever else his master was going to say.
“Watch it,
Kitten; you’re starting to overstep your boundaries.”
“No, Jounouchi,
I’m not; you’ve already done that, and now I just want answers.” The master’s kitten was gone and, in his
place, stood the calm,
confident, CEO.
This transformation was not as seamless as it would appear; he was going
against five years of willing conditioning at the hands of Jounouchi and,
though he was within his rights to question his master about what had happened,
everything inside of Seto was screaming at him to prostrate himself at his
master’s feet and apologize for behaving in such a disrespectful way. If he hadn’t maintained the persona of CEO
of Kaiba Corp in the same intervening years, he would have been more likely to
write it off as an honest mistake and done just that. But there was enough of
the CEO left that he would not accept such transparent negligence. “When I arrived home from work tonight, the
rose was not there. I find it
unacceptable that you can’t tell me what happened, Jounouchi,” he said as he
walked back to the front foyer and stood in front of the vase in question,
ignoring the blonde’s assertion that he had taken the necessary caution.
“I don’t see it, do
you?” His eyes swept the vestibule
looking for the missing flower. “It’s
not in the vase; it doesn’t appear to have fallen out either… I wonder could it
be in here?” he asked, as he pulled
open the drawer in the table that the vase was sitting on. Though his find was expected, it didn’t stop
the surge of overwhelming despair and sense of betrayal that flooded his being
when his eyes landed on the exquisite, hand blown glass flower. He picked the delicate bloom up from its
velvet lined box and, looking Jounouchi straight in the eye, his pain as naked
and exposed as his body had been earlier, asked, “This rose, this one right
here, this is the one that you put in that vase this afternoon so that I
wouldn’t come walking into the family room stark naked and kneel at your feet
in front of Motou Yugi?”
“Seto, I don’t know what
happened, but I did put it in the vase after Yugi and Honda arrived this
afternoon.” Jounouchi spoke
matter-of-factly, and Seto could tell that he fully expected his kitten to fall
back into line.
“I’m sorry,
Jounouchi, but that just is not
good enough.” He held up a hand to
prevent the blonde’s protest and continued on.
“As CEO of Kaiba Corp, I am ultimately responsible for every little
thing that goes on within the company, whether I have my hand in it, or
not. As such, if something goes wrong,
I am the one whose shoulders the blame falls to. As my master, I expect the same commitment from you. Somehow or another, that rose ended up back
in the drawer. Or, it never made it out; I don’t care which way it happened. All I care about is that it was your
responsibility to make sure that I was aware that
Yugi was a guest in our house, and that you failed in your duty.”
“I accept the blame for
this, Kitten; you are right, I should have checked closer to the time that you
were expected home that the rose was still there. I maintain that I did put it in the vase, and that I did not plan
for Yugi and Honda to see you. For that
I am truly sorry.” He stepped toward
Seto, intending to take him in his arms again, and was shocked when, once
again, Seto backed away from him.
“That’s all well and good,
Jounouchi, but you broke my trust tonight; whether it was intentional or
because of carelessness is really a mute point. That you accept the blame for it is nice, but it doesn’t make up
for the fact that it happened in the first place,” he said, his voice taking on
a hard disrespectful edge.
“So what are you saying,
Kitten?” Jounouchi asked with
trepidation as he finally grasped the seriousness of Seto’s distrust.
“I don’t know if I can do
this any more; I don’t know if I have faith in you any more.”
“Oh, come on, Seto; after
five years, you don’t know if you can trust me because of one incident?” the
incredulous Jounouchi asked.
“Two,
actually; but I will admit that Mokuba was as much my fault as yours. Neither one of us expected him to break up
with his girlfriend and make the two hour drive home from university because he
was so upset. Since then, I have
become more vigilant and I have expected the same from you, but obviously my
faith has been misguided. How do I know
that you won’t come striding into the office as Master, or, when we’re at a
business function, you won’t let something slip?”
“You can’t
be serious; you must know that I would never do that?”
“And half an
hour ago, I was sure that Motou Yugi would never know about this. But now he
does, because of you. I can’t be sure
of anything anymore. I’m sorry.” With those words spoken through rasping
breath, he reached to the back of his neck and, with a shaky fingers, unscrewed
the nut and bolt that held his slave collar in place, removed it, and handed it
to Jounouchi before turning his back and walking up the stairs, with the glass
rose still clutched in his hand.
