A/N: I’ve had this little bunny on my back for over a year now. It’s been itching to be written and just couldn’t wait any longer. Since I’m going through YGO withdrawls after the last episode Saturday, I decided ‘what the hell’ and began this story too. My creative juices are flowing again and the muses are happy. So, enjoy!

In an ancient land where the sun god, Ra, would heat the desert sands until blistering as he made his journey across the sky, there was a young pharaoh, named, Atemu. The former pharaoh, his father, had passed on to the next world all too soon for the teen king. Being forced to maintain the responsibilities of justly ruling all of Egypt had taken a toll on his sixteen summers of life. But this was not to say he was not a fair and kind ruler. No, in fact, the land of Egypt had never been more peaceful.
Atemu grew listless upon the throne, however. His faithful servants and attendants all could see the emptiness within their pharaoh's heart that nothing seemed to fill. He cared little for his harem girls. So much so, that he disbanded them, but allowed them to stay in the palace as servants. Having his land at peace made him happy, but there was still more that he wanted.
His most trusted advisor, his very own cousin and high priest, Seto, was the most concerned. What would a kingdom say if their beloved pharaoh remained unhappy? In an attempt to lighten Atemu's heart, the palace held elaborate feasts and celebrations.
Hearing of the pharaoh's discontent, subjects would come to give their praise and offer what they could to their king. Travelers came from all corners to see the young pharaoh and hope they could provide something to please him with. Most wandering travelers managed to provide entertainment at the various celebrations with music, food, and dance. Still, Atemu felt downhearted.
"What is it that saddens you so? Your people are becoming troubled since their pharaoh is unhappy," Seto stated, "Is there nothing that can be done to help?"
Atemu shook his head, "I'm afraid, my dear cousin, that I am simply looking for something that cannot be found. I can feel it in my heart that there is something missing. Forgive me for saying so, but I'm envious of you, Seto. You have found love and happiness with your companion, Jono, yet the same has yet to happen for me... Perhaps, being pharaoh, I was not meant to have someone ruling beside me."
The priest let a breath out in quiet sigh. It was always the same. No one had ever managed to catch Atemu's eye the same way his golden haired, Jono had. The physical need could be satisfied temporarily, but the emotional was something much trickier to tame.
Azure eyes followed the retreating figure of his kin. He whispered a prayer, "May the gods take pity on you, cousin. Let them help to bring you peace in this world."

Ra had taken his eternal journey across the heavens many times before the next palace celebration was to take place. Delicacies from far away lands were gathered for the great feast and the best musicians and performers were to appear. Seto had summoned the kingdom's most beautiful females to the palace as well, hoping that Atemu could possibly find a queen.
As the sun god approached his final destination, the celebration began in full swing. Sadly, the young priest could see his cousin acting politely with his guests, but had little interest. Atemu was enjoying the food and beautiful music well enough. It was the company he wished to forget, however.
One woman after another threw themselves at his feet for their chance to be noticed. The pharaoh wasn't impressed, though. Watching their display allowed him to see the vanity and greed they harbored within instead of the compassion and loyalty he was seeking.
He was saved from the vipers as a guard bowed at his side, "My king, I was sent here to announce the arrival of a small band of traveling performers. They say they have journeyed far and requested your audience if you wish."
Atemu thought for a moment and gave a regal nod, "Yes, send them in. We can provide them hospitality for their troubles."
The guard bowed once more as he was dismissed and scurried off to give word. Some time later, a small troupe was led into the main hall. They bowed before Atemu humbly.
A spry gentleman was their leader. He spoke Egyptian, but his dialect told of his foreign home, "You honor us, my pharaoh. We hope our performance is to your liking."
They stood and a handful took their places off to the side. They brought forth instruments and began to play, their beautiful music enchanting every listener. The first performers began, doing various jesterly acts of juggling and acrobatics, which delighted the palace guests. Atemu offered a small, forced smile to be kind.
He began to tune them out after a while and was surprised at how much time had passed when they finally announced their finale. Dancers gathered on the floor and waited for the music to begin. Drums and pipes started to play a hypnotic beat and the dancers began to move in a circle. They tapped together finger cymbals and shook their hips. At one point, they even danced while balancing swords upon their heads. The pharaoh looked on with disinterest since all the performers he had seen at the palace were all the same.
A change in beat brought his attention back. A solo dancer appeared, trailing a black veil behind. Coins and jewels were draped all over her and jangled when she moved. No matter how fast or slow the tempo went, her hips and belly stayed in time with elegant grace.
Atemu stared, almost in a trance as he watched. The glinting of a gem in the dancer's navel taunted him and the sound of the coins around her ankles and wrists seemed to play a seductive melody all their own. Her dance told an ancient story of the gods and goddesses and every movement paid worship to them. Crimson eyes tore away from the dizzying gyrations of her abdomen to gaze at the rest of her.
Scarves and veils were tucked into the sides of her violet skirt, rounding out her hips. Each twirl brought the thigh high slits open to play a seductive game of peek-a-boo by showing off glimpses of her tight buttocks. She had little breasts to speak of, if any, that were covered with a small wrap of material adorned with more coins and jewels. Several scarves covered her head and wrapped around her throat and a veil obscured most of her face. Her eyes though, were stunning.
Seto glanced over and was surprised to see his cousin's jaw starting to slacken. He turned back to the beauty moving about the floor. For the first time, he noticed everyone's attention had been captivated by this dancer.
Atemu did not want it to end. His heartbeat sped up within his chest with each twist and turn. This mysterious dancer twirled the forgotten veil around, being drawn into a dance of seduction with it. She moved into a lunge, her lithe frame bending impossibly back before she leapt to her feet again and discarded the veil a second time. A gentle toss had the veil floating into Atemu's clutches.
Her sunkissed body shimmied as she appeared to be leaving the stage and the teen pharaoh had to stop himself from jumping up to go after. She turned and their eyes locked. He felt his breath hitch before his view was blocked by the other dancers dragging a curtain around the star. Atemu leaned forward in his throne anxiously while he waited.
Suddenly, she appeared again, this time with a cape of golden material fluttering behind her as she walked back to the center of the 'stage'. The music changed again, gradually gaining tempo before a drumbeat cued her. A dramatic crescendo came and the cape burst forth into a pair of Isis wings before she started dancing once more. She controlled the wings, swooping and twisting them about her.
No one had ever seen the amount of passion this dancer had. When the music ended at last, she gave deep bow, spreading the wings out as far as they would go. The leader of the troupe came forward during the applause to bow for them.
"We hope our performance has been enjoyed, my pharaoh. If you will let us, we shall take our leave."
Atemu snapped back to reality and sat up straight, "Wait! I must know who that girl is! The girl in the last dance! She was exquisite.."
The man smiled sheepishly and waved the dancer over. She kept her eyes down and bowed again shyly.
"She thanks you for your kind words, but I'm afraid I cannot give you a name."
Seto stepped forward, "You dare to defy the pharaoh? He asked for her name!"
He began to tremble a bit while the rest of the troupe gathered in on themselves, "Please forgive me, I do not mean ill by my actions. You see, she never gives a name."
A spark of life burned in the pharaoh's crimson eyes, something that Seto knew had been absent for far too long. If this was what was going to make his cousin happy again, he wouldn't let the opportunity get away. The priest met the man head on.
"I wish to take this girl for the pharaoh. She will be well cared for and allowed to remain in the palace," Seto stood tall to the troupe leader.
The others began murmuring to one another in their native tongue. The dancer fled to the safety of the group and shook her head in a clear 'no' while she clung to a few of them as a lifeline. The travelers looked to their leader to remain firm.
He tried to plead his case, "Forgive me, high priest, but that is a request I cannot grant. We are the only family she has ever known and we could never part with her. She is a treasure to our clan."
"I see. Very well, then. Allow us to lead you out," Seto headed the way for the performers, flanked on several sides by palace guards.
Atemu watched them leave before gazing down at the veil held tightly in his fist. Ruby orbs closed as he clutched the material to his chest sadly and he spoke softly to his conciliate, Shimon.
"I grow weary, Shimon. I need a breath of fresh air before I retire to my chambers.." With that, he left the hall with little flourish as the celebration feast began to wane without his royal presence. A stroll through the garden would give him time to think.
Meanwhile, Seto was acting upon his own plans. They drew closer to the exit before the high priest commanded the guards to seize the dancer, under the strict condition that no one was to be harmed. Unfortunately, that was not the case for the unlucky guards. They managed to retrieve the girl and hold back the troupe while two other guards held the dancer captive. Originally, it was one, but he was dealt a particularly harsh blow to his groin from a quick foot.
"Take the girl to the royal bedchambers as a present for the pharaoh. Make sure she doesn't escape."
The two guards dragged her off, leaving Seto and the others to deal with the remaining members. His features where stoic as he gave a final command before turning to take his leave.
"See them out and pay them for their services."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The cool, desert night air did little to calm Atemu's spirit. The stars sparkled in the sky like the jewels on his mysterious dancer, further reminding him of what he could not have. His stroll led back to inside the palace where he headed for his bedchambers, intent on retiring for the night for the chance of pleasant dreams. The guards held his door to let him pass before letting it shut securely behind.
The pharaoh was startled to find, however, that his chambers were already occupied. The dancer girl sat beside his bed, a large chain and shackle around a slender ankle. Her once dazzling eyes were dull and wet from her tears. When she saw Atemu, she came to her feet with an angry defiance, far more courage behind it than she really had.
"Your priest sends me as a gift," she spat, sadness and anger quivering in her voice. "He took me from my tribe.."
The young ruler found the key, unlocking her from her shackles. All the while, he stared at her, completely mesmerized by her mere presence. He raised a hand to cup her chin, "I give my apologies to you on behalf of my high priest. But you are so beautiful, that I am unsure if I can let you go. The thought of losing you causes me great pain..."
She turned away, fighting back fresh tears. Atemu was still captivated by her. Brushing aside her face veil, he pulled her forward into a kiss. Her already large eyes widened in shock and she struggled to pull free. The taller used his weight, forcing her to step backwards until she fell back upon the bed. He leaned over her petite frame, drawing her into another kiss while she resumed her resisting. His hands wandered over her body, removing her top and caressing her thighs through the slits of her skirt.
She pushed his chest with both hands, "Please no!"
Pleas fell on deaf ears as Atemu continued. He ripped away the scarves around her face, sliding his fingers under her headdressing to feel the soft hair beneath. His kissing grew hungry while he flipped the skirt front out of his way and, at last, her hair came tumbling forth. This is when he paused to give a good look at his seductive dancer.
The pharaoh blinked several times, sure that his eyes were playing tricks on him. When the image did not change, he jumped back in surprise. The dancer sat up slightly, clothes still askew.
"H-how is this possible?!" he demanded in his shock.
It was like looking in a mirror! Exotic black, magenta, and gold locks, much like his own hair, adorned the head of his mystery dancer girl. However, the biggest mystery had also been revealed. The entire lower half of the performer was exposed to show she was not a girl at all. This beautiful stranger that had caught his eye was, in fact, a boy!!
