(Shakes her
head in disbelief) heh, maybe I should stop writing alltogether, and rather
concentrate on creating OCs for other, more talented authors.
Here’s
Sugawara Akiko, school-nurse and mother figure to our blond hero. You might
borrow her, but give me the credits, kay?^^

The headadache was getting worse by the minute. Clenching his teeth, he tried to
block out the pain while paying attention to Yugi’s words. It didn’t help
that a high, searing noise started ringing in his ears, drowning out every other
sound:p>o:p>
He saw Yugi
and Honda’s concerned faces in front of him and heard Anzu ask something, but
everything seemed muffled.
“Sorry, you
were saying?” he mumbled, as he closed his eyes, trying to shake his head
clear.
When he
opened his amber eyes again, he was staring at the ceiling of the nurse's room, his
friends surrounding him.
“Wha..happen’d?”
he mumbled, as he tried to sit up.
A glowing
rod of pain shot through his skull and he fell back with a sharp inhale,
barely able to bite down a cry of agony.
“Katsuya!”
screamed Yugi, aggravated to see his friend in such distress. Honda grabbed
one of Jou’s shoulders, trying to give him some kind of comfort.
“Easy,
there, pal, takes a moment, for the pain-killer to kick in” said a warm, gentle
voice, Katsuya thought, he knew. It took him a moment to realize, it was the
school nurse’s, and he managed a shaky smile.
“Been
a while Sugawara-san, ne?” he stated, and she nooded.
From day
one in Domino High, Jounouchi had been a constant visitor in the nursery, be it
that he was injured himself, or that he brought one of his challengers to be
patched up(mostly, it was the latter).
Nonetheless,
Sugawara Akiko had soon taken a liking to the blond boy, especially, since he
started sneaking her coffee from the teacher’s room.
She was the
only one who knew, that he only picked fights to hide the bruises his father
left on him under those of his schoolmates.
Once he
started dueling, his visits had grown more and more seldom, and then stopped.
Until
today.
“Low bloodsugar?”
Jou snorted, even as Sugawara-san nodded.
“Among
other things. Your calcium is barely existent, your red blood–cells are on an
all-time low, and don’t even get me started on proteins and carbohydrates.” She
looked up from her chart.
“Want me to
continue?” Jou only shook his head, while Yugi, Honda and Anzu silently stood
there with puzzled looks.
Finally,
the young girl asked timidly:
“Uhh, I
don’t really understand. Does that mean Jou is sick, or something?”
Akiko shook
her head before adressing Katsuya.
“Mind to
tell me, when’s the last time you ate?” He blinked, then frowned, trying to
remember. Finally, he shrugged.
“Uhh, I
dunno, yesterday? Might be yesterday? Or was it-I can’t remember, okay? Iv’e
been to busy working and studying to matter
about food or sleep. Happy now?” he exclaimed, then clutched his head again.
Honda
crossed his arms and glared at both the nurse and his best friend.
“So
basically, you’re not sleeping and eating enough, because of a paycheck and a
few good marks? Then let me put this in perception for you:”
He grabbed
the blond at his shirt collar, despite this one’s protesting grunts, and pulled
him on one height with himself.
“If you
don’t start eating and sleeping like a normal human being, I’ll come to your
house, force-feed you and then knock you unconcious, understood?”
Katsuya
chuckled as he plopped back on the stretcher, then patted Honda’s shoulder.
“Thanks for
the help, guys. I really appreciate it, but I can take care of myself, thank
you very much!”
Sugawara-san
turned serious once more.
“I’m
afraid you are taking this a little too lightly, Katsuya, it’s not that
simple. You’re in the middle of a growth-spurt, your body cannot handle
malnutrition and constant lack of sleep, when it’s metabolism is working
at such an accelerated pace.”
Four pair
of eyes gawked at her and she sighed, before explaining:
“Jounouchi
momentarily needs more food than usual, since his body uses the extra calories
to build up his rapidly growing bones and muscles. Without the needed energy-“
she paused, and locked eyes with the aforementioned,
“I’m
afraid, there might be long-term, permanent damage to your system. You might
consider your friend’s advise, since the human brain uses up about one quarter
of the energy we consume on a daily base, to function properly.*”
With that
advise and another two pain-killers, she released the stunned Katsuya from her
care.
She had
given him a lot to think about.
