Disturbed : Chapter 10
“Ryou?!” Mokuba called as he walked inside his apartment.
He sat his things down in the living room, hearing the shower on. He shrugged and sat on the couch to eat his take out lunch. Ryou and Malik broke away from their kiss in the shower to get some air, both with swollen lips.
“Did you hear someone?” Ryou asked his new lover, turning the warm water off, the bathroom filled with steam.
“I don’t think so” Malik answered, stepping out and drying his bruised body.
Ryou stepped out as well and began to dry himself with the fluffy towel. The two wrapped their towels around their waists and opened the door, Malik walking out first, then Ryou, who looked down the hallway to the living room and froze when he seen Mokuba starring at them from the couch, both angry and hurt.
“What is it?” Malik turned around when he noticed Ryou wasn’t following and seen Mokuba as well. “Oh, hey, Mokuba” Malik said casually, not knowing the younger teen had a crush on Ryou.
“Mokuba, please don’t be upset” Ryou pleaded.
“You chose him over me? Why? Because I’m younger? Is that it?” Mokuba asked, standing to leave, tears in his gray eyes.
Malik stood confused and couldn’t help but think about going to the bedroom to get some clothes on since both he and Ryou were shivering.
“No, that’s not it, Mokuba wait” Ryou begged as Mokuba slammed the front door.
“I’m confused” Malik confessed and Ryou walked past him and to his room, Malik following.
“He told me he loved me last night, so now his heart’s broken” Ryou explained with a sigh, putting some clothes on.
Malik began to put his now dry clothes back on, “Oh…sorry” Malik said in a low voice.
“It’s ok…I just feel really bad now. I don’t even know why he or you like me. I’m sick and I probably just let you get yourself sick as well” Ryou sat on his bed, tears in his eyes, “I’m so stupid” he mumbled.
Malik sat next to Ryou on the bed, “No you’re not. It was my decision. I don’t see how I could have gotten sick just because I went inside you. I can’t believe you chose me over him. I mean, he’s a Kaiba for one, so he’s already rich. He’s smart, cute, normal…” Malik bit his lower lip as his words only seemed to upset Ryou more.
Ryou sniffed, a tear falling down his right cheek, “I don’t know why I love you, Malik. If you asked I couldn’t tell you. I mean, you are a nice person, you’re definitely good looking, and you’re smart, too” Ryou sniffed again, “But I don’t think just because I can’t explain it, it doesn’t mean it’s not real. Not…” Ryou sniffed again, “Not everything can be explained, you know?”
Malik smiled and grabbed the box of tissue for Ryou, “Yeah, I know” Malik agreed as Ryou blew his nose and wiped his tears away.
The next week Malik would go after school to the clinic to start his internship with Odion, then he spent every evening he could with Ryou, the two usually just doing homework together. Though neither could concentrate, for that Thursday was to be Bakura’s trial. Surprisingly enough, neither were band from going to the trial, but they both knew they’d probably be watched, since they were both known for sympathizing with Bakura.
Malik and Ryou sat right behind Bakura in the court room, the only thing separating their chairs was the low, wooden wall. This time they had still dressed Bakura in the orange jump suit, but kept the stray jacket on him and his ankles were once again shackled, and a police officer stood near the wall, only feet away from their table with a loaded gun in his holster. There was low talking while waiting for the jury and judge to enter the room. The families of those Bakura killed in the room as well. The families of the five nurses, the wife of the doctor, the mother of the little boy, the parents of the little girl, the parents and siblings of the older girl, the wife the man that drove the truck, a friend of the drunk man’s, Tea’s parents, and of course Yami and Seto, there for Yugi. Malik kept an arm around Ryou, his lover feeling very fatigued lately and not sleeping well, always waking up with night sweats. He hadn’t been eating much either, always saying he wasn’t hungry and was losing weight rather quickly. Malik had offered to call the doctor just the other night, but Ryou insisted he was ok. Soon the jury was announced and in a line they people came and sat in their respective chairs.
“All arise for the Honorable Judge Burne” another police officer announced.
Ryou sighed as they stood as if it took much effort to do. An African American man, around 55 years old, came into the court room and sat in his chair with a serious expression on his face.
“This court will now come to order” he announced and opened a file. “Bakura Ryou, you are charged with twelve counts of first degree murder and one account of second degree murder. You are also charged with auto theft, breaking an entering, and resisting arrest” the judge sighed and resisted the urge to roll his eyes, “How do you plea?” he asked Bakura.
(A/N: Ok, I’m letting you know now, I don’t know much about law and trials and stuff. I did some research, but I’m telling you now, I didn’t spend hours looking it up, ok?)
Bakura chuckled and glared at the judge, his head cocking to the left, “I haven’t done anything wrong” he heard some of the people behind him crying.
“Just say ‘guilty’ or ‘not guilty’” the appointed lawyer said to Bakura, very annoyed.
“Why are they crying?” Bakura said angrily.
“Order!” Judge Burne said sternly, “You will be quiet in my court room, Bakura” he warned.
Bakura had angry tears in his crimson eyes and his brows came together in confusion, “I don’t deserve this! What about me?! What about those stupid nurses at that damned asylum that raped me for money! And when they beat me and injected that shit in me!” Bakura cried, trying to get out of the stray jacket.
“Someone calm him down! Now!” Burne ordered angrily.
“Stop yelling at him!” Ryou cried and managed to get over the wall and hugged his brother to his torso, the crowd completely appalled by his care for the murderer. The police went to grab Ryou, “I know he’ll be calmer if I’m here, please” Ryou begged the judge.
“Ryou, help me” Bakura cried into his brother’s abdomen.
Burne looked at Bakura’s pale, thin twin’s pleading eyes, “You will be shot if you manipulate the court in any way” he warned.
“I understand” Ryou nodded and soon was given a chair to sit next to Bakura.
“Is Malik here?” Bakura whispered to his twin.
“He’s right behind you, Bakura” Ryou answered, biting his lower lip so he wouldn’t cry.
The other lawyer there to defend the friends and family of Bakura‘s victims stood to continue the trial, “Now, Bakura, you’re claiming to not be guilty of your charges” the woman stood and turned on a projector, which displayed an image of a little boy on a white screen, “But, did you or did you not in fact confess to murdering Kaylup Michael’s by stabbing his throat with an icicle, raping his corpse, and then tossing him in the frozen lake?” the woman used the remote to go to the next picture, showing the skeleton of the little boy. “And, did you or did you not confess to killing Marie Thomas by luring her to your apartment building’s basement, shoving a butcher knife in her vagina, and then raping her and throwing her body in a dryer, later blaming it on another man living in the building?” she then moved to a picture of the older girl Bakura had killed in his room, everyone gasping at the graphic picture, “And Hillary Nelson. In your confession you claimed to have showered with her to cleanse her, then went about tying her up and cutting her ears off, stabbing her throat, slitting her legs, stabbing and cutting her vagina, then also having intercourse with her, then cutting her open, pulling her stomach out, covering yourself with her blood, and eating her liver, throwing it back up on her dead body. Did you or did you not give these confessions?” she demanded, momentarily turning the projector off.
“Did you do those things, Bakura? You can tell me. Remember how we use to share our secrets?” Ryou asked his brother softly, tears falling from his eyes.
Bakura starred at Ryou a moment, “Yeah…” he nodded, “I did that…after you left…” Bakura sniffed.
“Shhh, it’s ok. I’m here now, ok?” Ryou petted his brother’s hair.
The lawyer went through all the evidence she had on Bakura’s escape and killing the nurses and the doctor, the man in the truck, the drunken man, Tea, and Yugi. Bakura confessed everything she asked to Ryou, who had to re-ask all the questions in his own way.
“So, you confess to murdering thirteen people. You are guilty of this?” the woman asked, not getting a response from Bakura. “Do you believe or understand that what you did was wrong?” she continued.
Ryou wiped his tears away, “Bakura, do you remember what mom and dad did to the cats and dogs, and to that girl? You know how they went away and didn’t come back because they died?” Ryou asked, Bakura nodding. “What did you think about that? I missed the cats, they were my favorite. I was angry and upset that they killed them, I thought it was wrong that they did that. Did you think that?” Ryou asked calmly and patiently as if he was just having a normal conversation with Bakura.
Bakura shook his head, “I..I missed the dogs…” he answered, his eyes just starring at the table in front of him as if remembering the times when the dogs would be slaughtered and he’d be bathed in their blood, or forced to drink it. “They hurt them…” he continued, remembering how the animals would bark and whimper and try to get away. “Make it stop!” Bakura yelled suddenly, “Stop screaming!” he cried, hitting his head on the table, everyone able to hear the loud thud.
“Bakura! Shhhh…come here” Ryou pulled his twin over to him before he could hurt himself again, his head bleeding a bit.
“NOOOOOO!” Bakura wailed, kicking his feet a bit, but Ryou still continued to hold him, “Aaaaahhhhh….!” Bakura cried, the court room silent, the reporters in the room even momentarily stopping taking their notes as everyone watched the teenager being tortured by his memories of his childhood, and the only person there for him was his brother and Malik.
The prosecuting lawyer even starred at Bakura, tears in her eyes. Malik now climbed over the wall and also helped to comfort Bakura, both he and Ryou knowing that as soon as the judge read Bakura’s sentence he would realize that this whole time Ryou had been helping the court and not him. After a few minutes Bakura calmed down.
“It was wrong of them to do that, wasn’t it?” Ryou asked, Bakura nodding in agreement.
“This trial will be in recess for thirty minutes” Judge Burne announced and stood to go to his chambers.
Bakura looked at Malik as the lavender eyed teen wiped Bakura’s tears away, “Malik, why do you look like that?” Bakura asked.
“I just got into a little trouble is all” Malik gave a weak smile.
“Uh, you two can return to your seats now. We won’t be asking Bakura many more questions” a police officer said quietly to Ryou and Malik.
“No, I want them to stay” Bakura protested.
“It’s ok, we’re going to be right behind you” Ryou promised, feeling light-headed. “Malik, I’m going to get some water…I don’t feel well” Ryou said weakly. “I love you, Bakura” Ryou gave a small smile and kissed his twin’s cheek before slowly standing and making his way out of the court room to the water fountain.
“Malik, do you still love me?” Bakura asked, Malik standing to go back to his seat.
Malik hesitated for a second, “I’ll always love you, Bakura” he assured and even leaned down to kiss Bakura’s lips, some people in the court room gasping and shaking their heads in disapproval.
“All right, let’s go” the police man said impatiently and shoved Malik away and made sure he sat down.
Ryou came back and sat next to Malik once again, holding his stomach.
“Are you sure you’re ok?” Malik asked, holding the back of his hand to Ryou’s forehead, “You’re burning up.”
“Bowel problems” Ryou chuckled, though it did hurt.
“Sorry” Malik sighed and let Ryou lay his head on his shoulder, putting an arm around his lover.
Soon the judge came back, along with the jury. It was time for the friends and family of those Bakura killed to speak. They each spoke of their loved one, speaking bluntly about their hate for Bakura. Bakura chuckled at their tears, glared at them, and even shouted at the older girl’s mother to suck his cock. Lastly Yami stood and walked to the center, talking about his brother and how Bakura killed him.
“…And for what you did to my twin brother, I hope you suffer forever in hell where you spawned from” Yami said with angry tears. “And I think the least you could do is give all of us an apology for what you’ve done, though it will never make up for it.”
Bakura sat tapping his foot and leaned back his chair a bit, “Are you done yet?” he asked impatiently. “I’m not going to apologize to any of you. All of you living your comfortable, care-free, happy lives.” Bakura said bitterly and looked up at the ceiling and began to speak the words to the song ‘Die M.F. Die,’ by Dope. “I don’t need your prison. I don’t need your pain. I don’t need your decision. So what should I do? I don’t need your approval. I don’t need your hope. I don’t need your lectures. I don’t need a thing from you” Bakura let his head fall back down and glared with an evil smirk at Yami, “I’ll be sorry so you’ve said, I’m not sorry, bang…you’re dead. Die mother fucker, die” Bakura licked his lips as Yami starred at him in furry.
Yami shook his head and went back to his seat, glaring death at Bakura. The judge shook his head as well.
“Very well, then, this court will recess for fifteen minutes while the jury comes to a verdict” he ordered and stood to leave.
“Are you sure you want to give him the injection? Some places still to hangings and the chair” Seto said to his lover, putting an arm around Yami.
“I’m sure. I’m not going down to his level completely” Yami wiped his tears with a tissue.
“Hey, I need to go” Bakura whispered to the lawyer sitting next to him.
“Sorry, you’ll just have to hold it until you get to your cell. You’re not authorized to leave that chair unless you want to be shot” the man answered dryly.
Bakura glared at the man and looked at the police officer standing against the wall and at his gun. Bakura slouched in his chair and looked forward, feeling like a wild animal being controlled. Soon the jury came back in, along with the judge. Burne called the court to order and took a deep breath, just knowing that as soon as the verdict was read the court room would turn into a circus.
“Has the jury reached a verdict?” Burne asked.
The last person on the bottom row stood, “Yes we have, your honor. This jury finds the defendant…guilty of all charges” the woman read.
“Very well. Bakura Ryou, I sentence you to the federal state prison where you will await your capital punishment date, which has been arranged to take place three weeks from today. Court dismissed” Burne used his mallet and hit the round wood on his desk.
The family and friends cheered, standing to hug each other; all happy that now finally justice would be served. Ryou cried on Malik’s shoulder, police walking over to Bakura to take him away.
“No! Get off me! Leave me alone!” Bakura growled, the police immediately injecting Bakura with a sedative, not taking any chances.
Bakura’s body became numb and he groaned as the police had to pick him up to carry him out. Ryou cried on Malik, his lover holding him in a tight embrace. Despite Ryou deciding it was best for his brother, it still hurt to know that his twin was going to die. People starred at the two as they walked out, everyone glaring at them and shaking their head at them. One woman walked up to Malik with her husband, angry tears falling from her blood-shot eyes.
“I hope you burn in hell with him!” she cried and slapped Malik’s face, then walked away with her husband.
Malik held his stinging cheek, another person walking by and spitting on him and Ryou.
“God, Malik, let’s just get out of here” Ryou sniffed, the two going to Malik’s car.
Malik decided to go back to his and Marik’s apartment with Ryou, since he didn’t care to deal with the tension caused by Mokuba. When he and Ryou went inside they seen Marik and Noah on the couch. Marik didn’t want to go to court with Malik, bluntly telling his brother he didn’t want to be ridiculed with him. They had a huge fight about it before Malik had left, Malik thinking Marik, being his brother, should have went with him to help support and defend him from everyone. Instead, Marik and Noah had watched the trial live on the news and had seen Malik get slapped on tv as well, since the cameras had went outside keeping an eye on the two.
“Malik, I need to go lie down” Ryou said in a tired tone, going to his lover’s room and laying down on his bed and hugging a pillow.
Malik didn’t have much to say to his brother or Noah and just went with Ryou to his room.
“Ryou, are you sure you’re ok?” Malik asked, taking his jacket off and putting it in the dirty clothes, since that’s where he got spit on.
“Long day…” Ryou mumbled, ready to fall asleep.
“You should eat something, or at least have something to drink. You haven’t eaten all day” Malik rubbed his lover’s back soothingly.
“Not hungry” Ryou answered, coughing a bit.
“Ok. Love you” Malik leaned down to kiss Ryou’s cheek, who already seemed to be asleep.
“Malik, I’m sorry, ok? Don’t start giving me the silent treatment” Marik said in the doorway.
“Shh, he’s sleeping” Malik whispered, continuing to pet Ryou’s hair.
“I think you should get a doctor for him, whether he says or not” Noah said, coming to the doorway as well.
“I know…” Malik sighed, tears in his eyes. “I’m scared” he admitted, getting up and going over to the door to close it. “I thought we’d have more time.”
“Well, he’s been through a lot. The cold, wet weather. The stress of his brother and school…and you and Mokuba” Noah reminded, “People like him, their immune systems are very weak. If they get sick at all…” Noah continued.
“I know!” Malik snapped, the felt bad, hoping he didn’t wake Ryou.
“Malik, I think you need a rest, too. Why don’t you eat something and lay down on the couch for a nap?” Marik suggested to his twin, becoming very concerned for not only his physically health, but his mental health as well. It was so strange; just three and a half months and a half months ago everything seemed so normal, his brother just fine…now everything had completely changed and has only gone from bad to worse.
“Ok” Malik nodded and wiped his eyes before any tears could fall and walked past the two to the kitchen.
“Do you think they’ll be ok alone? I really need to…get away” Marik said in a low voice to Noah.
“Sure, let’s go” Noah took one of Marik’s hands and led the way to the door.
Marik told Malik he and Noah were going out for a bit and would be back and the two left and got in Noah’s car. The two drove across campus to the Botany building and went inside one of the large greenhouses.
“God, both of them look really bent out of shape” Noah commented as they sat at a bench in the middle of the house that had a fountain behind it.
Marik shook his head, “I just don’t understand what happened. Malik’s been fine his whole life until now. Ever since he started dating Pegasus things have been changing. Him and I started fighting, then he started getting distant, then depressed and angry. Now he’s so sensitive, crying all the time and getting into so much trouble.”
Noah nodded, “Yeah, I hate to say this, but…Ryou seemed to be doing fine until he met Malik. He could have lived for many more years before the disease started getting a hold on him. He’ll be lucky if he can fight this, now.”
“If you ever come near me you’re dead! You hear me, dead!” one inmate screamed to Bakura as he was escorted down the halls of the prison.
“Hey, how’s about I kill you, and fuck you, huh? I bet you’d like that you sick freak!” another called.
Bakura just glared at everyone, the guards still having to help him walk because of the drug he had received in the court room still have a bit of effect on his body.
“You’re mine, bitch!” another spit on Bakura as he walked by.
Even the worst of criminals had their limits and most were completely disgusted by what Bakura had done, most having heard about him on the news and watching the trial on tv. The police lead Bakura to a solitary room and threw him inside.
“This is home for the next three weeks. Your food’s gonna slide through this little slit in the door, that is, if we ‘remember’ to feed ya” one police officer laughed.
“Yeah, hope you’re not afraid of the dark, cause there ain’t no lights in there” another chuckled and slammed the metal door shut.
Bakura sat on the cold, cement floor, still in his stray jacket. Tears came to his eyes and he moved until he ran into the cot that was in the corner. He climbed up on the hard, thin mattress and sat in the corner, soon forgetting if his eyes were opened or closed, since it didn’t make a difference.
Bakura sniffed, his hot tears falling from his eyes, “All the fear has left me now. I’m not frightened anymore…” he softly began to sing the first song Malik had sung to him and sung it until he fell asleep.
