Chapter 9 ~ Trouble in the Shadows
**the next morning**
Anise was the first one to wake up. She smiled as she rolled over and saw Bakura laying next to her. She gently reached up and kissed his nose lightly.
~*Bakan, it’s time to wake up. Yanna is wanting to come out of her soul room.*~ she whispered in his ear.
Bakura slowly opened his eyes and looked at Anise with a smile on his own face. He gently wrapped his arms around her back and pulled her to him so he could return her kiss.
“Just keep her in there for a little while longer. I need to go and talk to her father about what has happened to her at the hands of Naraku,” he whispered to Anise as he released her from his hold.
Anise sighed as she sat up on the edge of the bed. She had a sad look in her amber-gold eyes. She understood what he was saying but she also knew that Yanna would overpower her somehow and come out on her own.
Bakura saw the look in her eyes as he too sat up. He wrapped his arms around her once more. He also rested his chin on her right shoulder and kissed her neck.
“Bakura, her father already knows what has happened to her,” Anise said as she pulled away from Bakura as she got to her feet and headed towards the door.
Bakura groaned as he too got to his feet and followed after Anise as they walked out of the room.
“I know that, Anise. But I can’t risk anything happening to her,” he said as they reached the stairs.
Both Bakura and Anise looked over the railing and smiled when they saw Yugi, Yami, Marik, and Malik still asleep.
“My brother is happy with his hikari, isn’t he?” Anise asked Bakura.
Bakura wrapped his arm around Anise’s shoulders once again. He pulled her close to his side.
“Yes, he is. And Marik is happy with Malik,” he said back to her.
**meanwhile**
Ryou rolled over on his bed and woke up. He smiled to himself as he got out of bed. He quickly got dressed in his traditional white sweater and jeans and walked out of his room. He made his way towards the stairs. Just as he reached the stairs, he saw Bakura and Anise standing there. He was getting ready to walk towards them. But he stopped when he heard Anise’s question about him and Bakura.
“So, what’s your relationship with your hikari, Bakan?” Anise asked as she kept her eyes on her brother and the others downstairs.
Ryou watched as Bakura turned white as a ghost at hearing Anise’s question. He, too, wanted to know the answer to that question. He smiled slightly as he saw Bakura look right at him.
Bakura gulped hard when he heard Anise’s question. He turned and looked at her and saw Ryou standing behind them, smiling. Bakura turned white as a ghost as he quickly thought of something to say in response to her question.
“Mine and Ryou’s relationship is nothing like Yami and Yugi‘s, and Marik and Malik‘s. Ryou has always known that my heart has belonged to another,” he said loud enough for both Anise and Ryou to hear. “You could say Ryou and I act more like brothers than Hikari and Yami.”
Anise smiled. She knew that Ryou was standing behind them. She had sensed and heard his soft footsteps when he walked out of his room.
“Did you get all that, Ryou?” Anise asked as she kept her eyes on Bakura’s.
Ryou nearly jumped when he heard Anise speak to him. He made sure that he was quiet when he walked out of his bedroom.
“H-how did you know I was here, Anise?” Ryou asked as he slowly walked over to Bakura and Anise.
Anise finally turned around and looked at Ryou with a smile on her face.
“”I am three-quarters dog demon just like Yanna. Nothing gets past my ears,” she said as she pointed the top of her head.
Bakura smiled as he looked back over at Ryou. He hated it when Anise looked at him like that as well. It was like she could hypnotize him, or anyone else for that matter, with just that one simple look. He could tell that Ryou was starting to fall for Anise. He then leaned down to Anise’s ear.
“I think someone is falling for you,” Bakura whispered in her ear.
Anise smiled as she looked back at Bakura.
“I know. Your hikari is kinda cute,” she whispered back to Bakura.
Bakura smiled as Anise walked over to Ryou. He knew how Ryou felt because he was starting to fall for Yanna as well. He leaned against the railing as he watched them.
“I’ll leave you two alone for now,” Bakura said as he turned and headed down the stairs. “Don’t be too long, Anise, because your brother is going to want to talk to you.”
Anise rolled her eyes as her and Ryou watched Bakura head down the stairs. She then turned her golden eyes back to Ryou and smiled. She enjoyed looking at Ryou for some odd reason.
“So, Ryou, how did you and Bakura find each other?” Anise asked as she smiled up at him.
Ryou smiled back at Anise. He pulled her towards his room so they could talk in private. Anise smiled when she was pulled into Ryou’s room. Once in the room, Ryou released Anise’s hand so that he could shut the door behind them. Anise walked over to his bed and sat down. She looked around the room and smiled when she saw that it had very few things in it. She noticed that it just had his bed, a nightstand, a dresser, and a desk with a matching chair. Anise then turned and looked at Ryou as she smiled.
“So, are you going to answer my question, Ryou?” she asked him.
Ryou looked over at Anise and smiled back at her. He slowly walked over to the bed and sat down on it next to her.
“”The Millennium Ring,” he said to her.
Anise smiled to herself. She had always known that that was how her Bakura had come into Ryou’s life. She moved closer to Ryou and smiled even more.
“How did you acquire the Ring, Ryou?” she asked with a look of wonder in her eyes.
“My father had gotten it for me on one of his trips to Egypt,” Ryou answered.
Anise nodded her head. She moved away from Ryou slightly when she heard Yanna growling in her head.
/Anise, I need to talk to you alone./ Yanna said to her darker half.
Anise smiled as she looked at Ryou.
//If that is what you wish, Yanna.// she said back to her hikari. “Ryou, would you excuse me. I have a very impatient hikari.”
Ryou nodded his head as he got up and walked over to the door. He opened the door and looked back over at Anise.
“Don’t be gone too long because Bakura will start to get worried,” he said as he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Anise sighed as she pulled herself into the bracelet to confront Yanna. She smiled when saw Yanna standing by the window in her soul room. She carefully and quietly walked over to her hikari.
“Something bothering you, Yanna?” Anise asked quietly.
Yanna didn’t turn around. She kept looking out the window.
“You like Ryou, don’t you Anise?” she asked calmly.
Anise just stared at Yanna with a shocked look on her face. She couldn’t believe that her hikari would know something like that. She smiled even more.
“How do you know that, Yanna?” she asked.
Yanna finally turned around and smiled up at Anise. She then walked back over to the bed and sat down. She looked right into Anise’s eyes and smiled even more.
“There is a way for you to be with Ryou and me with Bakura,” she said with a hint of evilness in her voice.
Anise just looked at Yanna worriedly. She couldn’t comprehend what her hikari was talking about. Yanna was starting to scare her.
“And what way are you talking about, Yanna?” she queried her light.
Yanna just smiled back at her dark half. She had to think of a way to tell Anise about them being able to switch places permanently to be with the ones they are falling for.
“I found a spell in one of my father’s books one day when I snuck into his study when he wasn’t home. We can switch places. Another words you will become my hikari while I will become your yami,” she said to the girl before her.
Anise just looked at Yanna. She couldn’t believe what her hikari was suggesting. She then walked over to the bed and sat down next Yanna.
“Tell me about the procedure, Yanna, because you seem to be hell bent on doing it,” she said to her hikari.
Yanna looked at Anise and smiled. She pulled her legs up onto the bed and sat cross-legged on the bed while she continued to look at her dark half.
“The procedure is quite complicated, Anise. We will need Bakura, Marik, and Yami to complete it since I will not only have to be sealed to the bracelet but also to the rod, puzzle, and ring,” Yanna said as she continued to look right into Anise’s eyes.
Anise smiled at Yanna as she leaned against the wall across from the bed. She was surprised at how well Yanna had everything planned out. It was like her hikari had it all planned from the beginning.
“You have really planned everything out, haven’t you?” she asked Yanna.
Yanna slowly nodded her head as she looked away from Anise and down at the floor. She then got to her feet and walked back over to the window. She looked out at the nothingness that surrounded her soul room.
“Yes I have, Anise. But I am not going to lie to you either. This procedure will cause both of us great pain,” she whispered as she closed her eyes.
Anise walked over to Yanna and pulled Yanna to her and hugged her close. She could tell that Yanna wanted to do this just to get away from Naraku.
“Let’s talk to the boys about it first, Yanna. If I know Bakura and I am pretty sure that I do. He may not let us do this if it is going to hurt us in the long run,” she said as she released her hikari.
Yanna looked up at Anise with tears shining in her eyes. She pulled away from Anise and walked away from her. She didn’t know how to tell the others what she was planning to do in order for Ryou and Anise to be together along with her and Bakura. She then looked back at Anise and smiled.
“Then let’s go,” she said as she looked sternly at Anise.
Anise nodded her head as she let Yanna regain control over her body. She knew that Bakura was going to be mad at her about letting Yanna have control but he needs to hear what Yanna wants to do from her hikari’s mouth.
Yanna smiled when she saw that she was still in Ryou’s room. She got up and walked over to the door and left the room. She headed over to the stairs and leaned over the banister so she could look down into the living room. She then got a smile on her face as she walked down the stairs to the living room.
**downstairs in the living room**
Bakura had made it down the stairs as he smiled to himself. He slowly walked into the living room as Marik and Yami woke up. Bakura sat down in one of the empty chairs as Marik and Yami looked over at him as they sat up without waking their own hikaris.
“Good morning, Bakura,” Yami said to his longtime friend.
Bakura just nodded his head towards Yami as he lost himself in his thoughts about both Yanna and Anise. He finally looked up at Yami and Marik once again.
“I need to talk to Yanna’s father about what has been done to her,” he said out of the blue to the other two yamis in the room.
Yami and Marik looked up at Bakura. They both knew that he was right. But what they didn’t know or understand was how they were going to be able to talk to InuTaishou about what was wrong and what had happened to Yanna over the years.
“Do you really think that her father will listen to us, Bakura?” Yami asked worriedly.
Bakura looked up at Yami and shrugged his shoulders. He then glanced back down at the floor, never once noticing Yanna coming down the stairs towards the living room.
Yanna walked into the living room and stopped just short of where Bakura, Marik, and Yami were at. She smiled to herself as she walked up to the chair that Bakura was sitting in at the moment. She gently reached out and touched his shoulder.
“I will go with you guys and tell my father what Naraku has done to me over the years. And besides, there is something I need to get from my father’s study anyways,” Yanna said as she walked around the chair so that she was looking directly at Bakura while Marik and Yami stared at her back.
Bakura slowly looked up at Yanna. He knew that she was right about her being the one to tell her father about what had been done to her by Naraku. He slowly pulled Yanna into his lap and nuzzled her neck.
“Anise wasn’t suppose to let you out yet,” he whispered in her ear.
Yanna grinned as she looked into Bakura’s violet eyes. She could see the concern he had for her. But she hated being locked up even if it was suppose to be in her best interest.
“I know. But Anise could tell that I hated being kept inside the bracelet. And besides, I wanted to be with you right now,” she whispered in his ear so only he could hear her. “I want to go home and talk to my father.”
Yami and Marik watched as Bakura and Yanna interacted with each other in the chair. They both could tell that Bakura was a little upset that Anise had let Yanna out of the bracelet. But they both also could tell that their friend was happy to see Yanna as well. Both Yami and Marik cleared their throats to get Bakura and Yanna’s attention. Bakura and Yanna both turned and looked at Yami and Marik. Yanna’s eyes had started to glow slightly but they had stopped when she felt Bakura’s arms wrap tightly around her.
“What is it, Pharaoh?” Bakura asked slightly angered that his attention was pulled away from Yanna.
Yami just looked at Bakura and Yanna.
“Why don’t you two go ahead and go talk to Yanna’s father,” he said to the two sitting in the chair. “Marik and I will stay here with Ryou, Malik, and Yugi.”
Bakura nodded his head at Yami, knowing that he was right. He gently lifted Yanna off of his lap and set her on her own two feet on the floor in front of the chair. He then got to his own feet and pulled Yanna close to him. The two of them walked over to the door.
Ryou looked up at Bakura and Yanna with sad eyes. He got up from where he was sitting on the floor and followed after Bakura and Yanna.
“Just be careful, you two,” he said to them.
Bakura stopped just short of the front door as he released Yanna and turned to look at his own hikari. He smiled at Ryou.
“Don’t worry, we will,” he said to Ryou.
Just then, Anise materialized beside Yanna and Bakura. She smiled at both of them. She then looked at Ryou.
“I agree with Ryou, Bakan,” she said worriedly.
Ryou just looked at Anise when he heard her call Bakura “Bakan”. He had never heard Bakura called that before but he pushed the thought aside and would ask Anise about it later.
Bakura looked up at Anise as did Yanna. They both could tell that she was worried about them. Yanna pulled away from Bakura and walked over to her darker half.
“Don’t worry, Anise. Bakura will protect me if anything happens,” she said.
Anise couldn’t help but worry about her former love and light. She just had a bad feeling that something was going to go wrong on their way back to Yanna’s house. Yanna saw the worry in Anise’s eyes.
/What is truly bothering you, Anise?/ Yanna asked through their link.
Anise smiled as best as she could as she looked at Yanna. //I just have this bad feeling that something is going to happen to you two when you leave.// she said back to Yanna.
Yanna walked over to Anise and hugged her dark half. /Don’t worry. I have a few tricks up my sleeve if something happens./ she said to Anise through the link as she smiled up at Anise.
Anise nodded her head as she closed off her end of the link with Yanna. She felt a little better but she still couldn’t shake the feeling that she had. She turned away from Bakura, Yanna, and Ryou and walked back into the living room to be with Yami and the others. Ryou, Bakura, and Yanna watched as Anise left them.
Bakura turned and looked at Ryou with a smile as he said, “Well, Yanna and I will be back in a couple of hours. Keep the others under control, Ryou.”
Ryou nodded his head as he watched Bakura open the front door so that him and Yanna could walk out of the house. He closed the door as Bakura and Yanna walked down the street. Once he had the door closed, Ryou walked back into the living room in time to see that Yugi and Malik were awake and talking to Anise.
**with Bakura and Yanna**
Bakura and Yanna walked out the door and headed towards her father’s place. Yanna literally had herself plastered to Bakura’s side. She definitely felt safe the closer she was to him. Bakura smiled when he felt Yanna move closer to him.
“I just hope that my father will believe me when I tell him what Naraku did to me,” she whispered to Bakura.
Bakura tightened his hold on Yanna as he stopped walking and looked down at her. He smiled at her.
“He will, Yanna. Why wouldn’t he?” he asked her worriedly.
Yanna looked away from Bakura as she felt tears start to sting the back of her eyes. She slowly looked up at him with her amber-gold eyes.
“Because I have kept it from him for the last six months, Bakan. Whenever he or my brothers would ask me about who had beat me six months earlier, I always told him that it was nothing,” she said near tears.
Bakura released Yanna as he looked towards where they were walking. He sighed as he looked back at her and smiled once more.
“Well, there is only one way that we are going to find out, Yanna,” he said to her.
Yanna nodded her head as she too looked towards where her house was located. She nodded her head as she looked back at Bakura and smiled.
“Then let’s get this over with,” she said with a slight growl.
Bakura smiled even more as he took Yanna’s right hand in his own and together they both started walking down the street. He smiled to himself as they continued to walk down the street. He could tell that she was worried about something happening to them. He had an unsettling feeling deep down that they were being followed. He then stopped Yanna from going any farther and turned to look behind them as he let his eyes scan the sidewalk they had just come down.
Yanna looked at Bakura with a worried look on her face. She needed to know what was bothering him.
“What’s wrong, Bakura?” she asked him in a worried tone.
Bakura didn’t look at Yanna. He really needed to get Yanna off the streets before who or whatever was following them could take her from him.
“Let’s go, Yanna,” he said as he grabbed her hand harshly and started to pull her down the sidewalk towards her house.
Yanna winced slightly at Bakura’s grip on her hand. She tried to pull out of his grip but quickly relented when he wouldn’t let up.
“What has you so worried, Bakura?” she asked as she forced him to stop walking and look at her.
Bakura sighed as he turned and looked at Yanna. He could tell that she was starting to get mad since he wouldn’t tell her what was bothering him.
“I told you. Someone or something is following us. I just want to get you back to your house before something happens,” he said to her.
Yanna pulled her hand out of Bakura’s grip and just stared at him. She slowly backed away from Bakura as well. She hated being kept in the dark about her life. She wanted to know who or what was following after them.
“Tell me, Bakura, or I will turn and go back to Ryou’s,” she said in a demanding tone as her eyes flashed between their amber color and red.
Bakura sighed as he knew he needed to get her to calm down before she lost control of her demon side once again. He started to walk towards her when he stopped suddenly and looked behind her.
“Yanna, just calm down,” he said to her as he turned his attention to the person behind Yanna. “Who are you?”
A boy about the same age as Yanna walked up behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder. Bakura noticed that he had the same red eyes he had seen in the dream that him and Yanna had shared the day before.
“My name is Haru. And I am going to take Yanna back home from here. She doesn’t need you any longer,” Haru said to Bakura as he pulled Yanna back against his chest.
Yanna nearly screamed when she felt Haru’s hand tighten on her shoulder as she looked up at Bakura with pleading eyes. She began to fight with Haru’s grip on her. She started to get sick to her stomach the longer she was in contact with Haru’s chest.
“Let go of me, Haru,” she yelled as she continued to fight to get back to Bakura.
Haru just laughed as he started to back away from Bakura with Yanna still firmly in his grip.
“Our father wants to have a word with you, Yanna,” he whispered in her ear.
Bakura started to feel his anger getting the best of him. He wasn’t about to let Haru take Yanna away from him. He wasn’t going to let the same thing happen to Yanna that had happened to Anise in the past. He stepped towards Haru and Yanna as his eyes started to glow slightly.
“Let. Her. Go,” he said as he accentuated each word as his anger grew even more.
Haru smirked at Bakura as he watched the boy before him. He remembered everything about Bakura from his past in Ancient Egypt.
“You couldn’t even protect Anise in the past, Bakura. What makes you think that you can protect Yanna from my father?” he asked the white haired boy.
Bakura growled as he launched himself at Haru, knocking Yanna to the ground. There was no way that he was going to let Naraku and Haru do to Yanna what they had done to Anise. Once he had Haru pinned to the ground, Bakura started to beat the crud out of him. He had kept it locked up all these years in hopes to finally be able to take it out on them for taking Anise from him all those years ago.
Yanna just sat on her butt and watched as Bakura attacked Haru. She weakly got to her feet and was about to walk towards the fighting boys when she was grabbed from behind and pulled into the shadows of the surrounding buildings.
“And where do you think you are going, my dear?” a familiar voice whispered in her ear.
Yanna’s back went stiff as she heard the voice in her ear. She immediately started to fight with the person who had a hold of her. She very slowly and carefully turned and looked at the man behind her. Her eyes went completely red when she saw who it was.
“Naraku,” she seethed quietly.
