80. Because you loved me
"Moshi, moshi?"
"The mole is gone, but now we have met with a hornet's nest."
"Wakarimashita. We need to remove it. How far are the gardeners?"
"More or less ready to move in."
"Excellent. Have them remove the plague; we will commence the harvest shortly after."
One by one, the workers piled in. As per custom, they were biometrically screened, but so far all passed with flying colours. There was a short confusion, as to Kawashiro's presence, but it was agreed upon that he would solely assist in overlooking the project; at no time permitted to even come close to either the construction site or materials.
Naturally under the stipulation of having constantly monitored his every step.
Jounouchi stepped out of the side entrance to short-cut past the rapidly developping bath house to the parking lot, where his little Mitsubishi waited(he had earned it with his own money and loved it to bits, despite Seto having a garage counting about forty far superiour cars).
He nodded at the workers in passing, flashing them a friendly smile...
and his blood froze.
All his instincts were screaming at him, and he walked closer, trying to figure what had set off is alarms.
So far, he couldn't detect anyone or anything suspicious, until his eyes came to rest on one particular paver.
He was tall, taller than most of his coworkes, with broad shoulders but an eerily haggard build.
Grey-brown, short-trimmed hair accented the sharp, angular features and receding chin; jowls indicating that he had suffered some long-term illness.
Katsuya shuddered inwardly; though the man bore no resemblance to anyone he knew, he still seemed ominous.
The blond shook off his feelings and proceeded towards the car. Had the worker proven to be any danger, Seto's security system would have surely picked it up.
Applying more plaster to the foundation, the paver merely smiled.
If Kaiba was something, then thorough.
Having bulldozed his way through every legal and police coordinate, his intelligence network, combined with the dilligent police officers, had finally caught up with the mole's murderers:
Otaki Kurio, estranged son and sole heir to the family's fortune -or misfortune, considering the downfall of the Big Five- had been so eager to avenge his father's disgrace and death, that he had joined forces with the local yakuza.
These had not taken too kindly to Seto having snatched several lucrative business deals from under their very noses and alarming the governement officials of their less..statutory transactions.
In short, he had managed to have several of their accounts frozen on suspicion of tax fraud.
And then there was Tsukuba Eijiro. He had the money to backup their operation; even though most of it had been claimed by the state, there remained enough to coax the yakuza to do his bidding.
Kawashiro had been a mere tool, a pawn that had been used or dropped whenever the situation arose. Since he had shown good behaviour during and after his jailtime and even proven quiet apt at the job assigned by the authorities, he was deemed immune of prosecution.
With all the major players now shut or tied down, Seto and Katsuya breathed a sigh of relief. At last, the ghosts of their past had been abolished and the future was finally, truly theirs.

I feel..guilty, to end the story the way it does. But without the tragic ending, there would be no story at all.
As for the title, it is a nod to Céline Dion's hit.
