CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Seto threw his head back with a gasp. A deep chuckle of another male escaped the body on top of his. He was sitting on Seto’s waist with a sheet barely covering either one of them. The male shifted again, sending jolts of pleasure up the brunette’s spine. His hands snapped up to grasp bare skin. The male chuckled again.
“What’s the matter, Dragon? Can’t take a little teasing?” he teased.
Using a defense move Roland had taught him, Seto was now the one on top with the other male face down on the bed. He ground down into his assailant, causing the other to let out a throaty moan. He leaned his mouth down to the closest ear.
“Let’s get one thing clear between us,” he growled.
The male smiled.
“What’s that?”
Seto nipped his head hard.
“I don’t…” BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Seto’s eyes snapped open. His hand automatically snapped out to turn off the alarm clock. This morning was different, however. On a normal day, he would rise from his bed, do a few stretches, shower, dress, and leave the bedroom. This morning, he lay staring up at the ceiling.
His heart was beating rapidly. His breathing was rough like he had run a marathon. A bead of perspiration flowed down his forehead to his cheek. The most disturbing part was the throbbing length between his legs. Gritting his teeth, Seto reached down to press a palm against it through his pajama bottoms.
Since hitting puberty, Seto had experienced a few wet dreams here and there. However, none of them had affected him as much as this one. It wasn’t a shock his dream had included implied relations with another male. He had known for years he wasn’t interested in female company. Mokuba was one of only two who knew and had accepted him for liking guys.
The mysterious lover had been a tease, but easy to overcome. Someone who enjoyed giving pleasure, but taking it, too. Someone who excited him with mere touches in a dream state. If Seto closed his eyes, he could still hear that chuckle in his ears. He let out an agonized groan when his member twitched hard, demanding his attention.
Throwing the covers back, Seto was very careful with sitting up and standing. Snatching up his phone, he trudged to the bathroom slowly. He thanked every card in his dueling deck that Wheeler was comfortable enough to be sleeping on his own. He sent a text to Roland to ensure Mokuba and Wheeler were up and down to breakfast.
He slapped the phone down on the bathroom counter once he received a confirmation. He started up a cold shower and jumped in after peeling his pajamas off. His body broke out in goosebumps, but the erection proved to be stubborn. Visualizing the most disgusting things (like that elderly principal’s secretary in a thong) did nothing, either.
I cannot believe this bullshit. How is it that my mind cannot overcome this? Fuck, Seto thought.
Finally, Seto gave in and took himself in hand. He leaned back against the cold shower tiles as he became pumping his length. He closed his eyes and tried to imagine a faceless male. Unfortunately, his mind drifted to a certain blonde male. He thought of the warmth he felt from holding Joey, from carding his fingers through his hair.
Seto gasped when his imagination went into overdrive. In his mind, he saw the blonde kneeling on the shower floor. He was smiling up at Seto with a gleaming twinkle in his eye. He licked his lips, “accidentally” flicking his tongue across the tip of his member. Seto released another deep groan.
Joey chuckled. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.”
That chuckle and the imagery of the blonde closing his lips over his member did Seto in. He came hard all over the shower floor. His head thud hard against the wall with an entire symphony of swear words falling from his lips. The dream was screwing with his mind and he couldn’t have that. After washing himself off, Seto wrapped a towel around his waist and snatched up his phone. He hit speed dial for Roland.
“Sir?”
“Take Joey and Mokuba to school. Tell Joey to tell our homeroom teacher I’ll be late.”
“Yes, Sir.”
After he hung up, Seto made his next call. It was picked up on the third ring.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Marie.”
“Seto! How good to hear from you. It’s been a while.”
“I need to come by this afternoon if that’s all right.”
Pause. “Of course. Of course, Seto. You’re always welcome. When should I expect you?”
Seto covered up his sigh with a cough.
“After school, Marie. The sooner, the better.”
“Very well. I’ll see you after school, then. Have a nice day at school, Seto.”
“Thank you, Marie.”
“You’re quite welcome, Seto.”
After hanging up, Seto dressed and went downstairs. He had a quick breakfast before leaving for school. He missed all of homeroom and slipped into first period English before the final bell. Mrs. Moshi gave him a stern look, but didn’t say anything as he slid into his seat next to Joey. The blonde slid him a piece of paper handed to him by the teacher when he came in.
“For those of you just coming in, the papers I have handed out are entry forms to a district-wide essay contest. They are due at the end of the week if you wish to participate. The winner will be presented an award plaque and scholarship by the Superintendent himself. Make me proud and don’t forget to check your grammar and spelling,” Mrs. Moshi told them.
It didn’t escape anyone’s notice the way Teá lit up in the front row. Everyone knew she was second only to Kaiba in English class; secretly, she was third behind Kaiba and Joey. Seto glanced at the paper.
1500 words.
One of three writing prompts.
Due by Friday.
Seto rolled his eyes. He folded it up and stuffed it into his computer bag. If it wasn’t assigned as classwork or homework, there was no need for him to do it. Seto glanced over at Joey. The blonde had his face stuffed into that notebook of his again. Seto didn’t quite understand why he would only use a thin notebook for all of his classes.
The morning dragged so slow Seto swore he saw the clock go backwards. At lunch, he was relieved when Joey told him he was going to be meeting with Dr. Conoors, the Guidance Counselor, during that time. Seto ate his lunch in his usual spot and looked over a few contracts before the bell rang. The day was going okay up until Science.
Out of sight of everyone else, a nervous Joey had barely touched his elbow and he jumped. A smashed knee and a not-so-mumbled curse had given the teacher reason to issue him a warning for detention. After that, Joey had scooted his chair over and dropped his head down. Seto let out a heavy sigh in his mind.
They had talked about this. It was acceptable in classes like Science where no one could see, but Seto’s day was scrambled from everything that had happened from the early morning. After calming himself down, Seto scooted his chair closer. He wasn’t surprised when Joey flinched from his touch. Seto snatched his hand from under the table and squeezed it. He tried to convey to the other student that it was okay. He pulled the hands over so they rested on his leg.
After a few minutes of taking notes, Seto felt the hands shift down to his knee. He let a small smile show when he felt the hand under his rub at the stinging flesh. He knew that was Joey’s way of communicating an apology for startling him. Seto squeezed his hand again to let him know he understood. They sat through the remainder of Science class like that.
After school mercifully let out, Seto told Joey he had work to do and Roland would be taking him back to the house. Joey agreed, told Seto he would watch Mokuba, and left in the car with Roland. Securing his laptop in a hidden compartment in his trunk, Seto took off in the opposite direction of Kaiba Corp. It wasn’t long before he pulled into a driveway of a small, home-like building.
He walked up and knocked on the door. The door opened to reveal a woman. She smiled at him.
“Hello, Seto.”
Seto smiled.
“Hello, Marie.”
Marie was a middle-aged woman with long, raven hair and deep blue eyes. She sat in a comfortable, saucer-like chair while Seto sat on the couch with his body bent over in half. He had been sitting that way since he had arrived.
That was over half an hour ago.
“You know that everything stays between us, Seto. You’ve known for a long time you can trust me,” Marie told him.
Seto sighed. He cupped his hands in his lap while his gaze remained on the floor. After a while more of staring at the floor, he spoke. He told her everything about Joey from the moment Seto walked into that hospital room up until the end of the school day today. He didn’t go into great detail about the wet dream or the fantasy in the shower, but he did mention them.
When he was done, it felt immensely better to have gotten all that off his chest. He looked up to find Marie smiling at him.
“This Joey…is he the “Mutt” you mentioned the last time we had our sessions together?” Nod. “Ah.”
Seto glared. “Ah? I pay you how much and all you give me is ah?”
Marie shot him a look.
“Don’t write a check your mouth can’t cash, Seto.”
Seto’s temper washed away as he smiled and leaned back in his chair. Marie, like Joey, had never been afraid to tell him off.
“I’m confused, Marie. He’s been a disturbing part of my life for years now. Why is everything changing now?” Seto asked.
“Because you’ve been on the other side of the fence and you’ve seen firsthand that the grass isn’t greener. Joey’s been a part of your life for years now, but you thought you knew him. The former gang member. The obnoxious loudmouth. The poor duelist. But for the first time, you’re seeing the other side to him.”
Seto nodded. His previous assumptions about Wheeler had changed the instant he saw his shattered body lying on that hospital bed.
“You enjoy comforting Joey because it feels good to you and it feels good to him. You both have been denied comfort in the past – yes, I know you were comforted by your family – but it makes all the difference between the two of you. I believe this is overwhelming to you because it’s all new to you. You’ve been on a couple of outings, but nothing serious in dating.”
Seto nodded again. It was true. He hadn’t dated much. He had figured out his preference for the male body by conducting research on his laptop. Frankly, it wouldn’t have surprised anyone. It didn’t surprise Marie when he had told her after he told Mokuba.
“You’re both young, active males. He’s 17, you 18. I think this dream is your way of coping with how your life is changing and trying to help you to understand how much Joey really means to you. I think, for now, that you should consider talking to him.”
Seto shook his head. He wasn’t ready mentally or emotionally for a conversation of that magnitude with his former rival. Plus it was unlikely that Joey was prepared for that kind of conversation, either. He might entertain the thought of speaking to Wheeler after his father was convicted and thrown away to rot in a jail cell the rest of his miserable life.
After speaking a little longer with Marie, Seto thanked her for her time and departed. When he came home, he found Mokuba and Joey decorating the entrance hall. The garland reminded him that today was December 1. Joey had been with them for a month now.
Spotting his big brother, Mokuba ran over and tackled him with a hug. Luckily, Seto caught himself with the door and returned the hug.
“Big brother, you’re home! Was everything taken care of at the office?” Mokuba asked.
Seto’s gaze flickered over to Joey. The other male was partially turned away fiddling with his hearing aid. His gaze came back down to his brother.
“It was. Marie says hello, ‘kuba,” Seto said in a quiet tone.
Comprehension lit up in Mokuba’s eyes. He knew all too well who Marie was and what her role in Seto’s life was. He also understood that Seto was speaking in code to him so as not to give anything away to their house guest.
If Seto wants to tell Joey about Marie, then he will in his own time. He knows I won’t tell, Mokuba thought.
“How was your afternoon?” Seto said, raising his voice to include Joey in that question.
“I was helping Chef Gabe with dinner earlier before Mokuba pulled me out to help set up for Christmas. Hope that’s okay,” Joey said.
Seto nodded. He explained to Joey that it was family tradition for the Kaiba’s to start decorating on the first day of December.
“And we always go shopping for the tree on the first Saturday. That’s this Saturday! You’ll come with us, right, Joey?” Mokuba added.
Joey nodded in agreement.
“I’ll come with you guys…if you don’t mind being guests of mine Friday night?” Joey pulled out a letter from his back pocket. “I got this reminder invitation in the mail today.”
It was a reminder invitation to the Volunteer Banquet being hosted by the animal shelter Joey volunteered at. Seto recalled Yami mentioning something about it around the time Joey came home from the hospital. Seto knew Joey was being honored with an award. A warm feeling spread through his heart at the thought of Joey wanting to include the Kaiba brothers.
Seto knew he had an important board meeting that afternoon, but he would be long done before the banquet.
“We’ll be there, Joey,” Seto said.
He knew he had said the right thing by the way Joey’s face lit up. The warmth feeling expanded in a second after Mokuba asked about Joey inviting Yugi and Yami.
“It’s their anniversary Friday and I’m pretty sure they’re gonna go out to dinner or something. Besides, I want you to meet the people I’ve been working with. Your opinion matters to me.”
Joey could have just been referring to Mokuba, not Mokuba and Seto. Except Joey flashed that smile directly at Seto who knew better. It startled him that his former rival would value his opinion whereas in their early encounters he wanted nothing to do with the vile words Seto shot at him. As Joey and Mokuba went back to putting up garland, Seto’s gaze fell on the card locket secured around Joey’s neck.
To think…one incident in which he is gravely injured protecting something precious to me…would change the whole story, Seto thought.
He was broken out of his thoughts when Chef Gabe came out to tell them dinner was to be served. Seto went up to his room to leave his laptop and wash up. Joey and Mokuba darted down the hall to Joey’s room where they washed up as well. The three all met at the table where Chef Gabe had finished laying out dinner.
Dinner was a mixture of favorite foods from the brothers and Joey. The conversation around the table was light and it was one of the few times Seto could remember eating without looking at his phone once. It was a little awkward when Mokuba had asked Joey if he was worried about the next court date coming up. Joey reached up to rub at the back of his ear where his hearing aid rested. Seto had noticed Joey do this a few times when he was nervous.
“I know what my old man did, even if he and Lou denies it. The District Attorney is doing a good job. I’m…a little worried. Lou’s been working as a lawyer for a long time and he’s good at what he does, too,” Joey explained.
“But, Joey, didn’t they get the Judge to force your dad’s lawyer out? Because of the conflict of interest, right?” Mokuba asked.
Mokuba must have been reading his mind. Seto had been wondering the very same thing. In response, Joey shook his head.
“No. Judge didn’t agree there was a conflict of interest. He spent more time with my dad than with me and my dad,” Joey explained.
They finished up dinner before separating their own ways. Seto disappeared into his study to complete some unfinished work. He occasionally checked in on Joey and Mokuba using the camera hookups to his desktop computer. Mokuba was working on an extra credit project while Joey was pouring over that notebook of his again. The angle of the camera didn’t allow for Seto to see any part of the notebook except the covering.
Seto finally retired to his room around eleven. As he laid down with his face pressed into his pillow, Seto wondered if Joey was still using the peaches and cream soap.
