Yami felt the warm sun drenching him with its warmth. His mouth was dry, so he licked
his lips to moisten them. Yami cleared his throat as he opened his eyes. He blinked a few times
before his vision adapted to the brightness of the new day. The urge to piss suddenly hit him like
a ton of lead. He lifted his cheek off the arm of the sofa and looked around the room. The
television had been left on, and the screen was blue. There was an empty 2-liter soda bottle and a
clear glass bowl with un-popped popcorn kernels at the bottom left sitting out on the floor. Yami
reached down to pat the carpeting to steady himself, but found his hand on something warm and
soft. The Pharaoh jerked his hand back and peeked over the edge of the sofa. He grinned when
he saw Yugi laying on the carpet using his jeans from the day before as a make-shift pillow.
“Such a sweet little thing.” Yami chuckled to himself as he took off the blanket covering him
and used it to cover Yugi. He stretched his leg onto the floor just past Yugi and tried to get up
off the sofa without disturbing his sleeping light.Yami had almost made it out of the room when he heard Yugi call out to him.“Pharaoh?” Yugi’s voice was dry and a little horse. He sounded like he was half asleep yet.“I’ll be right back.” Yami promised him as he rushed to the bathroom. When Yami returned from the bathroom, he found Yugi sitting up on the sofa with the blanket
wrapped around him. He was staring down at the floor looking very sad. He knew exactly what
was on Yugi’s mind, thanks to their bond.“You’re upset because Bakura never showed up last night.” Yami remarked as he sat next to
Yugi.Yugi looked at Yami and nodded his head slowly. “I am. He said he’d be over, you know? He
lied to me.”Yami put his arm around Yugi. “That’s just how he is, aibou, I’m sorry.”Yugi surprised Yami by leaning over and resting his cheek on Yami’s chest. Yami heard Yugi
sniffle.“Yami? If I tell you something, can you please promise me you won’t get mad?”Yami bit his lip. He knew what Yugi was going to say.“I’ll try” he answered his hikari nervously.Yugi sat up and looked at Yami with moist violet eyes. He took Yami’s hands into his and
squeezed them gently.“Bakura and I had sex.” He said quickly.Yami took a deep breath and nodded his head. It was exactly what he thought. The very thought
of the thief’s dirty hands on his innocent hikari churned his stomach. Yugi was way too good for
a low-life like the tomb robber. Yami felt his face grow warm. He pulled his hands away from
Yugi’s and blocked their mind-link. He didn’t want Yugi knowing how angry he really was.
Yami got up and walked over to the window. He stood in silence looking outside with his arms crossed. “How many times?” He asked after a few minutes.“Twice.” Yugi answered, his voice cracking slightly.Yami took another deep breath. “Was he worth it?” he asked seriously, still facing away.Yugi wiped a tear off of his cheek and nodded his head. “I think so, I mean, he knew what he
was doing and all.”Yami turned around slowly and shook his head. “That’s not what I mean.”Yugi looked down and closed his eyes. He sighed softly. “I know.......it’s just, well.....I can’t
even put it into words. I guess you think I’m really stupid now, right?”Yami sat back down next to Yugi and rejoined their hands. He was still upset, but he knew there
was nothing he could do to get back what Bakura had taken.“Yugi, we all do foolish things on the spur of the moment, and than regret them later. I don’t
think you’re stupid, just a little impetuous. Everybody makes mistakes though. This time away
from Marik has even shown me some of my own mistakes.......one of them being.....” Yami paused and bit his lip. He released on of Yugi’s hands and tipped Yugi’s chin up with his
thumb. He gazed nervously into Yugi’s teary eyes.“What, Yami?” Yugi asked softly.Yami swallowed hard as he closed his eyes and pressed his lips against Yugi’s. Yugi whimpered,
but didn’t pull away. “Yugi.....” Yami sighed as he ran his tongue over Yugi’s soft lower lip. He felt the warmth of
Yugi’s mouth press against his. Yugi reached around and rested his hand on the back of Yami’s
head, pulling him closer.“Yami......” Yugi whimpered, crystal clear tears were streaming down his cheeks. Yami wrapped his arms around Yugi and held him close. Yugi slowly pulled away from Yami’s lips and wiped the tears from his eyes. Yami shivered as
he gazed at his hikari. He looked so exculpatory with his big violet eyes sparkling and his soft
angelic features. Yugi cleared his throat and bit his lip. He slowly backed away from Yami.“I uh......have to, um......do something.” Yugi said slowly as he backed out of the room, leaving
Yami wondering if he’d maybe taken things too a little too far.
Marik pulled a wheelie through the busy intersection, almost dumping Malik off the back
of the motorcycle. Malik clung tightly around his darker half’s slender waist closing his eyes.
“Calm down, Marik! You’re going to get me killed!” he shouted over the rumble of his
motorcycle.Marik turned up the radio to drown out Malik’s whining.“Well folks, it’s that time again. Weevil needs his beauty sleep......thought I don’t really think
it’ll help much.”
“Shut up, you dillhole!” Weevil snipped back.“I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear that. I’d like to thank our surprise guest, Bakura, for gracing us
with his ugly presence tonight-”“Uh.....night? It’s eight in the morning, dork.” Weevil interrupted.“Whatever. Who cares. Shut up. We’ll be back at seven tonight sharp. Weevil’s going to go for
the world’s hot dog eating record, tonight, so you won’t want to miss it!”“I need you to play just one more song” Bakura jumped in.“Whatever. What one?” Rex asked. Bakura jotted something on a piece of paper and shoved it
across the table to Rex.Rex read the words to himself and nodded at Bakura.“And this one’s for YUGI.....” Bakura laughed as Rex cued up the song. Marik couldn’t help but laugh when “You’re Invited (But your Friend Can’t Come)” by
Vince Neil blared through the single speaker on the motorcycle.
“Why am I not surprised?” he laughed as he turned sharply, almost losing Malik off the back of
the bike again.“MARIK!!!!!!!” Malik squawked, wrapping his legs tightly around Marik’s waist. His fingers
were digging into Marik’s chest so hard that they were leaving small bruises. “Ooh, Malik! You’re so kinky!” Marik laughed, rounding another corner like a maniac on
speeders.“You’re going to be the death of me, you freak bastard.” Malik grumbled back.“Don’t get yourself too worked up back there, little Malik. We’re not going home just yet.”
Marik retorted sharply as he slid on a pair of sunglasses with mirrored lenses, letting the wind
blow through his hair.
Rex and Weevil shut their little radio station down and packed up their things.
“You better not forget to call me and wake me up later.” Weevil snarled at Rex.“I won’t forget like you always do.” Rex retorted sharply.Bakura rolled his eyes.“You both are really fucking annoying. You know what I like doing to annoying things?”Rex scratched his head. “Uh......I don’t think I really want to know.”Bakura chuckled lightly as he summoned up the magic of the Shadow Realm.“Hey! You promised you wouldn’t do this!” Weevil whined. The purple mists grew thicker and Bakura’s laugh grew in intensity.“What’s wrong? Are you scared?” he asked the disappearing duo.“I hate the Shadow Realm! Knock it off, Bakura! This ain’t funny! What the heck do you think
you’re doing!” Rex protested as the shadows slowly engulfed him.Bakura grinned down at his Millennium Ring.“Forgive me, but I can’t help myself. You’re both just so damn annoying.”“You won’t get away with this!” Rex and Weevil shouted as they were sucked into the darkness. After he’d banished Rex and Weevil, Bakura headed home. He had to take an alternate
route so that he didn’t pass the game shop. He hadn’t forgotten that he’d promised Yugi he’d
come over the night prior, and he didn’t particularly want to deal with that little issue at this
moment in time. Bakura’s alternate route took him through the trashiest part of the city, but that
didn’t matter to him. If anything, he wanted someone to try to mess with him, just so he could
send them to the shadows, right?Bakura stopped to buy a pack of cigarettes at the convenience store a block from his house. He’d
also bought a couple scratch off lottery tickets, so he started scratching them off as he walked
the final stretch home.“There you finally are!” Marik shouted as Bakura came into eye shot. Malik stayed back, leaning
back against his motorcycle with his arms crossed as Marik ran up to Bakura.Bakura looked up from the lottery ticket.“Ishtar? What the hell do you want?”Marik stopped infront of Bakura and caught his breath.“Where have you been all night?”Bakura stuffed his lottery tickets in his pocket and grinned that the Egyptian.“Out, got a problem with that?” Marik shook his head. “No, I don’t have problem with you being out all night. It’s what you
were doing that interests me. You weren’t by chance....on the radio now, were you?”Bakura snickered as he innocently shoved his hands in his jacket pockets.“Maybe I was, what’s it to you?”Marik could tell by the way Bakura was acting that he was hiding something. The Egyptian was
bound and determined to get it out of the thief, no matter what.“So where are your new friends Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood?”Bakura chuckled evilly as he continued walking.“They went on a vacation.” he replied as he fumbled for his keys. Marik waved Malik over and caught up to Bakura again.“Feel like going out for breakfast?” Marik asked the former tomb robber.Bakura paused for a moment and thought. “Breakfast? Where did you have in mind?”Malik sided up to Marik and jumped in the conversation. “You’re buying, right Marik?”Marik made a sour face at Malik and reluctantly agreed. “Yeah, my treat I guess. How about we
got to that new place over on State Street?”Bakura frowned. “State Street? Isn’t that *groan* near Yugi’s?”Marik nodded his head. “It’s not far, why do you ask?”Bakura groaned again as he opened the front door to the apartment complex. “No reason. I have
a better idea, how about we just eat here.”“Not a problem.” Marik answered back, following the thief into the building. “Hey, wait up! I’m not standing out here waiting like a dumb fuck!” Malik snarled as he
quickened his pace and went inside. The three men walked up the narrow red carpeted stairs and up to the apartment Bakura shared
with Ryou. Bakura unlocked the apartment door, keeping his leather jacket on as he headed to his room.“Make yourselves comfy. I’ll be out in a few minutes.” Bakura closed his bedroom door and unzipped his jacket. He grinned proudly down at the
Millennium Ring hanging around his neck. Bakura slid the ring off and placed it in his carefully sock drawer. He tossed his jacket on the
bed and hurried back into the kitchen. He grinned at Malik who had already taken the liberty of
making coffee. “You trained him well I see.” He remarked to Marik as he looked in the cupboard for food that
would be easy to make.Malik glared at Bakura and threw a handful of paper filters at his head. “I doubt either of you are
smart enough to make it, so get bent, okay?”Bakura pulled down a box of Pop Tarts.“My, my! I see somebody woke up cranky. Ever consider Prozac?” he mused as he dodged the
airborne coffee filters.“Just shut up” Malik frowned as he sat down at the table.Marik rested his elbow on the table and used it to prop up his chin. He looked up at Bakura with
a cattish grin. “Have fun dissing the Pharaoh on the radio?”Bakura laughed as returned to the table.“What do you think? Of course I did! How did I sound?” Marik shrugged his shoulders. “How did you sound? Well, you sounded...like you. Up-tight,
slanderous, vulgar, and utterly dumb.”Bakura shook his head and he walked over to the refrigerator. “You’re just jealous.” Marik nodded his head. “You’re right, I am. How did you manage to persuade the idiots into
letting you on?”Bakura grabbed two cans of beer out from behind the Kool-Aid and tossed them to Marik.
“Maybe I’ll show you later.” He winked as he kicked the refrigerator door closed with his foot.“Ooh, that was sexy.....” Marik purred, “I like the way your ass looks in those jeans too.”“You’re too weird.” Malik groaned as he got up to get some coffee.“And you love it, don’t you, baby?” Marik chuckled as he ripped a pack of Pop Tarts open using
his teeth.Malik rolled his eyes as he clutched his warm cup of coffee tightly in his hands.“You’re nuts. I’m out of here.”Malik growled under his breath as he walked down to the bathroom and slammed the door.Bakura laughed as he took a bite of his breakfast.“What the hell is he his problem?” He asked with his mouth full.Marik shrugged his shoulders. “Who knows.” Marik and Bakura went into the living-room with their breakfast and sat down; Marik on the
sofa, Bakura in his blue recliner. They watched television for a while, but grew bored of it very
quickly. Marik suggested they go ‘tear up some pavement’ on Malik’s motorcycle, so the they
left the apartment.
“Can you watch the shop for me, Yami? I have to go out for a bit!” Yugi shouted as he
slid down the railing of the stairs, acting like nothing happened. He was fully dressed and
carrying a backpack over his shoulder.
Yami looked up from what he was reading and nodded his head. “Okay. Where are you off to?”“To see Gramps!” Yugi answered quickly as he ran out the back door. Yami sighed as he looked back down at the worn, yellowed pages of his book. He tried to
concentrate on reading, but his mind was elsewhere. He stared blankly at the pages as he slumped back on the sofa.“Yugi...” he whispered as he closed the book. He shoved it under the sofa cushions and closed
his eyes. Ever since he had kissed Yugi he’d had an icky feeling in the pit of his stomach. The
way Yugi hurried off bothered him. Had he really gone too far? The scenario from earlier replayed in Yami’s mind. Yugi seemed to be enjoying himself, so why
was he acting so strangely now? ‘What did I do wrong?’ he asked himself.
Ryou closed his eyes as the pain medication the nurse had injected into his IV started
taking effect. It was so quiet and lonely now that Malik was gone. Even though he’d slept for
most of the time Malik was there, it was still nice having somebody familiar nearby. Ryou
listened to the jumble of voices coming from out in the hall. Nurses talking amongst themselves,
other patients hollering and moaning, and visitors chatting. He silently wished the nurse had
closed the door behind her when she’d left.
He covered his head with his pillow and sighed. All he could think about was Bakura for some
odd reason. He actually missed his darker half. Even though Bakura wasn’t all that fun to live
with, he was still better than anybody at the hospital.Ryou slowly drifted off to sleep again, his mind still on his yami. “Ryou? Are you awake?”
Ryou coughed as he slowly opened his eyes. At first everything was foggy, but slowly his eyes
came into focus after blinking a few times. “Bakura?” he ask in a hoarse voice. “What are you doing here?”Bakura reached over and took Ryou’s hand into his.“You’re so cold, hikari. Need your yami to warm you up?”Ryou smiled as brightly as he could. He still felt groggy from his medicine.“I’d like that.” Bakura kicked off his boots and crawled into bed next to Ryou, carefully positioning himself so
that he didn’t hurt his hikari. He rested his cheek on the pillow facing Ryou and smiled, running his fingers lightly over
Ryou’s colorless cheek.“I’m so glad you’re alright, I was scared I was going to lose you.”Ryou bit his lip.“You mean you actually care about me?” he asked Bakura.Bakura gently pressed his lips against Ryou’s forehead. “I care more than you realize.” Ryou smiled as he gazed into Bakura’s eyes. “For real?”Bakura nodded his head slowly. “Yes, Ryou, for real..........” “Ryou? Are you awake?” Ryou suddenly heard Yugi ask for out of seemingly nowhere.“Yugi?” Ryou replied weakly, his head feeling foggy again.“I’m sorry, did I wake you up?” Yugi said as Ryou opened his eyes.Ryou cleared his throat and tried to smile at his friend.“I was only closing my eyes. Have a seat.” he remarked as he tried to scoot up on the bed to a
sitting position. It hurt for him to move, but he had to. His back was killing him from laying still
for so long. He quickly tried to shake the images from his dream out of his head and tried his
best to focus on his visitor.“How are you feeling?” Yugi asked as he looked down at Ryou.Ryou sighed. “I feel like shit. I want out of this place so badly.”Yugi smiled as he brushed Ryou’s hair our of his eyes. “Don’t worry, you’ll be back home soon.
It’s too bad you can’t go roller skating tomorrow though. It won’t be the same without you
there.”Ryou made a sour face. “I wish I could be there, Yugi.....you can’t even begin to imagine how
much.”“Bakura’s gonna be there though, right?” Yugi asked curiously.Ryou shook his head. “I don’t really know. I haven’t talked to him for a while. Have you seen
him at all?”Yugi bit his lip. He stared down at the floor and nodded his head. “I saw him last night, he said
he was going to come over, but never showed up.”Ryou didn’t seem surprised, but he could see that it bothered little Yugi. “My yami can be quite
unpredictable. I’m sorry if he hurt you. He probably went home and fell asleep.”Yugi shrugged his shoulders and sighed. “Maybe. Do you think you could ask him for me?”Ryou nodded his head. “I can do that.”Yugi smiled at Ryou. “Thank you. I’d better get going now. I still have to go see Gramps yet.”“Thank you for thinking of me, Yugi. I appreciate it.”“See you later!” Yugi waved as he left the room, closing the door behind him.Ryou closed his eyes again. His thoughts drifted back to his dream. As much as he wished it was
real, Ryou knew Bakura would never be the loving, caring, kind individual in his dream. ‘Only if......’ Ryou sighed as he went back to sleep.
Malik woke up in a bathtub full of cold water. He quickly got out and wrapped himself in
a fluffy blue towel. He had totally lost track of time. After drying off and getting dressed, Malik
walked out of the bathroom and into the livingroom.
“Marik? Bakura? Anybody here?” he called out.No answer.“Wonderful. Now where did those two sneak off to?” Malik groaned as he ran a comb through
his wet hair.******************************************************************
