Disclaimer: I do not own YuGiOh!, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
So here's the next chapter. Thanks to Velvetina for her
wonderful beta job. I tried to make this chapter a little longer than
the last one.
sg: I hope that the commas are better this time, since I
now have the chapters betaed. I'll have to disappoint you, because
Seto won't be uke, since it doesn't fit into their relationship in my
story.
XaloneXalwaysX: Thanks for reviewing and here's more for
you.
Chapter
2 – Lost
They had been
walking for what seemed an eternity to Jounouchi without catching up
with the group. The whole time he had stayed slightly behind Seto,
whose mood had been getting worse with every minute they walked. 'The
stuck-up ass has probably never had to walk before.'
Looking in the
direction they were going, Jou had the feeling that the fog was
slowly getting less dense, but he wasn't completely sure. Suddenly he
bumped into Seto, who had stopped walking. Jou was about to complain
to the brunet, when he spotted the reason the other boy had stopped.
In front of them
was a small clearing that was completely free of mist. And the only
other thing he could see was trees. Lots of trees. And neither the
path nor their group were anywhere in sight. 'Shit. I knew we were
going in the wrong direction, but nobody ever listens to me.'
“Great
money bags. I told you that you were going in the wrong direction.”
But the brunet simply ignored his comment, walking out into the
clearing. Cursing under his breath Jou follow him, trying frantically
to get the CEO's attention.
Stepping in his
way Jounouchi waved a hand in front of Seto's face. Finally the
taller teen stopped, an annoyed look on his face. “I don't have
time to play with you, mutt. I want to get out of this mess.”
He was about to shove Jou out of his way, when the blond spoke again.
“You don't
even know what direction you are going in. The direction we are
currently walking in might lead even deeper into the woods.” In
fact, Jou was reasonable sure that during the past hours they
unintentionally had walked farther away from civilization than the
class trip was ever supposed to take them. 'I would know for sure if
I could see where the sun is currently standing.' Although as he
looked around himself, he saw that he probably would have to rely
more on the stars, since it had gotten pretty dark without them
noticing.
“As if you
know what direction we need to go.” The sarcasm was clearly
evident in Seto's voice, but it was also underlain with tiredness
that the teen tried his best not to show. Because a Kaiba never
showed weakness especially not around someone he looked down upon.
“Actually
I could find out, where we are headed if I could see the sun or
stars. I don't care what you'll do money bags, but I'll camp here.”
Jounouchi hoped that the other teen would be reasonable and stay with
him, but he refused to voice that thought out loud. 'It would only
get me insulted anyway.' Sighing mentally he put his heavy backpack
on the ground.

Although he
would never admit it out loud Seto had to agree with Jounouchi. There
was no use in stumbling through a dark wood. Most likely that would
only lead to them to going in circles. 'Especially when the mutt
decides in which direction to go.'
He was far too
proud to admit that he had originally chosen the wrong direction, so
he simply followed the other teen's example and set his backpack to
the ground. But as soon as he opened it, Seto came to the realization
that they were worse off than they had originally thought. The
supplies had been equally distributed on the backpacks that their
teacher had provided and up till now, he hadn't deemed it necessary
to look inside.
Instead of food
or sleeping bags or tents, the only thing Seto found as he dug
through the pack were books on plants and other research utensils
that were completely useless in their current situation. He stopped
searching the pack, when a muttered curse from not too far away
reached his ears. 'What the hell is the mutt's problem now?' Since he
had been carrying books, it was likely that the blond had some useful
supplies.
“Oi, rich
boy. You got something like food or a tent over there? 'Cause I seem
to have caught a book bag.”
'Great. How many
books could a single class need that they would fill up two bags?' He
shook his head in denial, while he absently rubbed his eyes. Since it
had gotten dark the air had also become chilly as a slight wind
rustled the trees. Seto looked up as he heard an owl call into the
rapidly darkening night, before trying to find the blond again.
Jounouchi had
walked to the middle of the clearing, which was relatively free of
grass. Although he was unwilling to sit down on the cold ground Seto
realized that it would be better than sitting on the damp grass. He
didn't speak as he sat down in the small grass-free space as far away
from the mutt as he could manage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It saddened Jou
that the one he had a crush on refused to even sit close to him, even
if they were lost in the woods without supplies or shelter. A cold
wind was blowing through the clearing and the blond was certain that
they would be much warmer if they shared some body heat. 'Yeah,
right, just keep dreaming.'
But he wasn't as
despaired about the situation as he should have been. After all his
father had often taken him camping, while he was still a kid and
before the man became an irresponsible drunkard. Now he only needed
to find a bit of dry wood and remember the lessons he had once been
taught.
Stumbling
through the swiftly falling darkness, he searched along the edges of
the clearing, finding quite a bit of wood that would serve his
purpose. Jou carried it back to the dry space they were staying in
and dumped it to the ground, before carefully stacking it. He was
completely unaware of Seto's curious gaze that was trained on him,
while he was concentrating on his task.
Jounouchi picked
up two branches and frantically rubbed them together, like he had
seen his father do so many times. Actually he had never made a fire
by himself, but it always had looked easy enough, when his old man
had done it. 'Shit, this ain't working.' He was ready to give up,
when the first faint traces of smoke began to curl around the sticks.
Loudly
exclaiming his triumph, he rubbed them faster together until the
smoke finally turned into a tiny flame. Setting the heap of wood he
had gathered on fire, Jou carefully watched as the small flame turned
into a real fire that provided a small measure of warmth and light.
The blond drew closer to the fire as he warmed his hands, waiting for
Seto to join him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seto had to
admit that he was tempted to just go over and sit down in the small
circle of warmth and light that the fire provided. But that would
have been admitting to a weakness and he hadn't sunk far enough to do
that yet. Even if the chilling cold was slowly creeping under his
clothes, claming the hands that were tightly wrapped around his body
trying to keep the heat inside.
He also had to
admit that he admired the mutt's ability to light a fire without a
lighter or a pack of matches. Although that skill was completely
useless in real life, it was of some value in their current
situation. 'Maybe the mutt isn't as useless and stupid as I thought.'
But that realization did nothing to keep out the cold that made it
hard to prevent his teeth from clattering. There was no way that he
would he able to sleep in this situation.
Suddenly Jou's
voice pierced the night as the blond addressed him. “I know
that you hate me, dumb ass, but I can hear your teeth chattering over
here. So you can either freeze your arrogant ass off or get over here
and share a little warmth. What will it be, Kaiba?”
He wanted to
pass the offer, like his pride demanded him to, but his common sense
won out in this instance. He might not like the mutt at all, but
currently he was the one of them that seemed to be in control of the
situation and he grudgingly respected the other teen for that. So he
grabbed his backpack and sat down close to the fire, but still far
away from Jou.
“Although
this might sound stupid, you know, it would be warmer if we shared
some body heat.” Having said that Jou walked over to him and
sat down, their shoulders touching. Seto had no idea why he actually
allowed that, but the warmth radiating from the other teen's body was
very welcome at the moment.
