The following morning went about the same as any other day for Joey. Despite having more trouble sleeping than he already did, he still managed to be up by 9 am. The fitful five hours of sleep weren't even close to what he needed, especially with how often he woke up; but sleep was bound to be hard when he didn't feel safe in his own home. That's one of the things he missed about rooming with Honda, he actually got to rest. He had felt safe there.
Unblocking the door, Joey snuck into the kitchen and made himself a piece of toast and grabbed a banana that was beginning to brown before walking back to his room. The sunshine was bright and welcoming as he opened the window, small things like that kept Joey going.
His dad shouldn't be awake for a while, so Joey figured now would be a good time to catch up on some of his favorite cartoons. He nibbled at his food, he didn't think he'd be able to keep it down if he scarfed it like usual. Last night was still bothering him, he should've seen it coming eventually and yet...
He just didn't want to believe his dad would really go that far. But then, he'd never thought his father would do any of the things he'd done. Once upon a time he'd loved and trusted the man. Even if those feelings had been exploited and disregarded until there was nothing left, they'd still been there at one point.
A pounding on the door had Joey stiffening and ready to flee. What the fuck was his dad doing up already?
"Joey," the man barked through the door," Where's the money? I have places to be!"
"It's on the counter like always!" Joey tried not to sound too annoyed, even when his father was sober he was still a prick nowadays.
It seemed the old man hadn't taken offense to Joey's response, not even a minute later the front door slammed shut. The bastard was gone for the day, even if he had nearly half of Joey's hard-earned cash with him. That had been part of the agreement for Joey to move back in, he had to resume paying off his father's debts like he had in High school.
Finishing his food, Joey laid back down. If his dad was already gone, he likely wouldn't be back all day. Might as well go back to bed while it was safe.

The next few weeks were uneventful as ever. Other than being asked, well ordered, to learn some basic pole-dancing techniques, Joey hadn't had any more problems at work. Kaiba hadn't shown up since, something Joey was grateful for.
Or at least he had been grateful, until the rich asshole had made his appearance. Once again the wealthy twat had rented out the entire VIP floor, and this time he'd requested Joey specifically, much to the blonde's dismay. It was just the two of them, it looks like he'd be both a bartender and a waiter tonight. No way he'd strip for the dude though, if Kaiba wanted that he could find someone else. Joey wasn't confident in his abilities yet anyway.
With all the enthusiasm of a dead sewer rat, Joey made his way to Kaiba,"What now, Mr.Fat Cat?" He wasn't going to be nice just because Kaiba tipped well...not overly nice at least.
"Original," Kaiba rolls his eyes," So how'd you get here, it's not every day that someone like you ends up in a place like this."
Joey scowled, that was it? He just wanted to gossip? What did the bastard mean someone like him? Figures, of course Kaiba just wanted to find amusement in his misfortune.
"I'm not telling you shit, moneybags. If that's all you want you can leave, I don't get paid to tell you about my personal problems."
"So a problem did land you here."
Shit. He should've chosen his words more carefully. Of course Kaiba would pick up on that!
"Why do you care?"
"I don't," Kaiba deadpanned," Just curiosity."
The brunette's face grew more serious," Mokuba still considers you a friend, I need to be sure you won't drag him down."
Joey gaped, fury burning in his eyes," The fuck is that supposed to mean? I wouldn't put Mokuba in danger, I haven't even seen him in months!" He'd been too busy just trying to survive since he'd moved back home. Besides, the kid hadn't contracted him at all during that time.
"The people you associate yourself with might," Kaiba countered, searching Joey's eyes for a reaction," Guilty by association, I'm sure you've heard that saying."
"Sounds like a load of crap to me," Joey huffed," You're not here 'cause of Mokuba, you're just nosy." He could smell bullshit a mile away.
"Think what you want, I'm still a paying customer," Kaiba countered," Get me a drink, let's start with a simple gin and tonic. You can do that, right?"
Joey didn't even answer as he made his way to the bar, of course he could do that! Grabbing the needed supplies, the blonde found himself mildly surprised when Kaiba sat down on one of the stools. He hadn't expected the man to follow him.
"It's done,"The drink slid across the table to Kaiba," You an alcoholic or somethin?"
Kaiba quirked an eyebrow as he sipped at his drink," I rarely drink at home and I haven't been here since the last time you saw me."
"So you just like looking at men in slutty outfits then," Joey accused," Didn't take you for a pervert, moneybags."
"The women are nice too...I have needs just like any other man," the brunette smirked," Sometimes it's fun to watch your coworkers get desperate for my attention once they realize who I am."
Glaring, Joey crossed his arms," Only you would get off on something like that."
Kaiba tapped at his empty glass," There's far worse out there than a little ego stroking. Don't be a prude, mutt. It doesn't suit you."
"Tch."
They went back and forth like that all night. Each picking at each other, but neither willing to start a full-blown argument. Not when they could get kicked out, or in Joey's case, fired from the establishment.
Apparently Kaiba must not have shit to do, because he'd been there for nearly 3 hours before finally leaving. Joey almost wished he'd stayed, the rest of the blonde's shift had been a nightmare in comparison. He was glad when he got home only to see that his dad had already passed out. That was until he walked into his room.
In his room were three all too familiar men. One's that Joey hoped he wouldn't come face to face with again.
"What are you doing here?" He demanded, trying not to sound nervous," My old man's been paying you, right?"
"He has," a tall, black-haired man that went by Kubo spoke," But he's been borrowing quicker than he's been able to pay. It's time to establish a new deal."
"That doesn't have anything to do with me-"
"It has everything to do with you," Kubo cut Joey off," We know you've been paying his debts for him, you're just as responsible."
The blonde froze, eyes wide in shock. His father had told them he was helping? That motherfucker! How could he just throw someone who was helping him under the bus like that?
"Your father offered something that'd immediately clear his current debts," Kubo took a step forward, looking the younger male up and down. Joey was frozen in place," Do you know what it is?"
Joey could barely find it in him to shake his head. The dots were connecting in the worst possible way," N-no, what is it?"
Kubo stroked a hand through Joey's hair, causing the blonde to cringe away. He didn't get far before a hand grasped his chin, a thumb stroking Joey's lip as if inspecting him.
"He offered you," Kubo squeezed at his chin, a silent warning not to pull away," But since you've been so good about paying me what I'm owed, I'll give you a chance."
The blonde stayed silent, trying to keep his composure. He was shaking, when had that happen?
"I'm a generous man. I'll give you 6 months to pay back the 3,540,000 yen your father owes. I won't even tack on anything he borrows after today until 6 months have passed. If you can pay off his debt, you'll keep your freedom."
Kubo pulled away, and motioned for his two lackeys to follow him," I hope for your sake you can pull it off, Joey. I'll be back in a months time for the first payment."
Joey was too stunned to speak. He wanted to beg, to plead for mercy, but he couldn’t get a word out. Could barely breathe. Kubo was long gone by the time he snapped out of it.
Finally willing himself to move, Joey made his way to the living room and launched himself at his unconscious father," You stupid, no good bastard!"
He straddled the man, a fist connecting with the drunkard's jaw as he started whaling on him.
"How could you?" Joey screamed at the unresponsive man as he broke into tears," I'm your son, how could you jus- just sell me off like that?!"
His life was over, there was no way he'd be able to pay a debt like that off in such a short amount of time. He was going to end up enslaved. He was going to get fucking raped and there wasn't shit he could do about it. It wasn't fair.
A choked out sob left his throat as Joey's screaming turned into a wail," What'd I ever do to you? Don't you care 'bout me at all?"
He hadn't expected an answer, and he didn't get one. He didn't care though, he'd still take his pain out on his father. It was his fucking fault anyway.
"I hate you, I hate you!" Joey sobbed as he beat his fists into the still unconscious man's chest. The assault gradually slowed down as the blonde lost his energy, despair setting in," I hate you..."
