Drabble 20: Hunters and the Hunted 2
“What do you mean you have nothing new to report?” Kaiba growled and nipped at the pulsepoint on the blond’s neck without drawing blood.
“D-Damn it! Kaiba… I tol’ ya I’d keep an eye out!” Jou whined as his neck was suckled. “Imma… hunter… not yer… lollipop! Would ya… ah… Stop it!” He grumbled, his eyes falling to half mast as the vampire’s talented tongue set fire to his senses. “Every time… ya do… this! Gawd… I hate you.” He moaned, taking away the sting of his words. He was starting to get used to the vampire greeting him this way. Not that he had much of a choice as he remained pinned to a tree, just like in his first encounter.
“I need answers, not dead ends…” Kaiba hissed and released the hunter’s wrists from above his head. He brought one wrist to his lips and waited for the blond to look at him. When their eyes connected, he dragged his fangs across the pounding pulse. His captive chewed on a bottom lip in response.
“I expected better results since I let you live.” He guided his prey’s wrist around his own neck and released it. He leaned in again and sucked on the hickey he was slowly forming on the smooth tan skin.
“Ya expected me ta do what yous couldn’t? Didn’t know I was that good,” Jou snickered and gave a yank on the brown locks. Another moan slipped passed his lips before he could stop himself. His yanking turned into a pull closer. He was caught off guard at the snarl in his ear.
“You insolent little…” Seto nipped the hunter’s bottom lip, causing it to bleed. He quickly sucked it into his mouth and thrust his tongue in to further explore his prey’s mouth. When he was sure the blond received his message, he pulled away.
“Kaiba.” Jou gasped, licking his kiss swollen lip. It was healed. As he caught his breath two hands cupped his face and tilted it back. He felt the other male lick across his Adam’s apple, kissing lower to his collarbone. One hand slid down from his face to drag sharp nails down his neck and chest. A loud rip sounded in his ears.
“I need you to be more cooperative… Things are getting serious and if you aren’t going to be helpful,” Seto purred as he latched onto a spot just above the shorter male’s heart, “I will do more than simply sample that honey running through your veins!” The howl of pleasure at his rough suckling made him smirk. Just as the hunter was getting his breath back, he pulled away, thrust his tongue down the blond’s throat again, and enjoyed the other’s tongue twirling around his own in response.
Jounouchi rubbed his stiff erection against the vampire in front of him. Despite the clothes keeping his cock from being exposed, he continued to rock and rub himself to gain some form of relief. A hand suddenly cupped his ass and the exterior friction on his member increased. Just when he was nearing the edge, the sensations stopped and the vampire vanished. Flustered, the blond knew he needed to call for assistance.
Despite having dealt with Kaiba—the privileged pain-in-his-ass—Seto for over a month, each encounter with the overly affectionate and haughty vampire left Jou feeling a combination of annoyance and excitement. His wrists and neck were still slightly pink from where the vampire had gotten overzealous two days prior. The hunter had no clue how to assist the vampire, but the brunet seemed to be distracted by him -or maybe just his blood- instead of their task. Thinking about the encounters, he instinctively rubbed his tender spots, an action not lost on his petite and observant partner.
Rebecca opted not to comment on the marks or the blush working its way up the blond’s neck and ears… not yet, at least. Instead, she rolled her eyes at her friend’s impatiently tapping foot. “If you keep coming here demanding shit from me, I might take twice as long! Sit down and relax. This isn’t as easy as you think it should be for me.” She huffed, watching the taller blond snap his attention back to their conversation.
“It’s more of me hopin’ ya got a list den demandin’ stuff.” At her glare he chuckled, “Look, I wanna get dis shit over n’ done wit’ asap. Besides, you’re a genius! So… wouldn’t this be easy for you Becca?” Jou scratched the back of his neck in worry. “That vamp ain’t takin’ no fer an answer. I’ve tried ta reason wit’ him, but…” Thinking back to his secret bribe, he swiftly opened his backpack and pulled out a small box. He flashed her his most charming smile, “I brought ya cake!” He watched the corner of her mouth lift in a half smile. Cake was always the answer.
“You can be a sweetheart and an ass at the same time.” She chuckled at his expression, “And stop that. You know I’m immune to that smile.” Pointing to her computer screen, she smirked proudly. “I got most of it done. Take a look.” While he was distracted, she snatched the sweet treat and took a bite. She glanced back at him when he didn’t speak and rolled her eyes. His scrunched eyebrows and flat pressed lips showed exactly how little of her work he understood.
Rebecca sighed, “There are approximately sixteen clans in a thirty mile radius. I can widen the search, but,” she took another bite and waved her hand in annoyance, “I’m afraid if you look anymore... thrilled at my findings you’d die of joy.” The dejected look on the hunter’s face deepened further.
“Rebecca, are ya fuckin’ kiddin’ me; about how many members are in each clan?” The hunter’s expression mixed with horror as he realized the possible individual numbers.
She gave him an apologetic smile. “Average is about… nine. There are some that have as few as five and others as large as twenty-two. Jou, this is a needle in a haystack! With the information you gave me, I highly doubt you are going to find your killer. Most of them are just families doing what any normal family would be doing: living their lives. There are only about four that are actually violent.”
Jounouchi rolled his eyes. “If only four are violent, then why did ya tell me there were sixteen?”
Rebecca pursed her lips together and smacked the street punk upside his head for his idiotic question. “Just because they aren’t known for being violent doesn’t mean they aren’t responsible! You need to give me more information if I’m ever going to help you narrow down this killer. Are there any similarities or patterns with any of the deaths?”
“Yeah, a vampire killed them. Duh.” Jou flaunted his shit-eating grin, but bit it back once he saw his friend’s left eyebrow twitch. The blond gave the younger girl his best apologetic smile, “I mean… All thirteen victims were young guys, twenty ta twenty-seven, but they look like teens. They all died on the same day a da week: Friday. Also, their bodies were found in alleyways by clubs, but that don’t mean that’s where they died… This ain’t a low class vamp, huh?”
Rebecca tugged on one of her blond pigtails. She frowned in thought, trying to find links and piece the puzzle together.
“Does this vampire seem smart or stupid?” She asked suddenly, leaving the other blond to think of an answer that worked.
“Don’t know fer sure,” he began after a few minutes. “I mean, they don’t try ta hide the bodies, so it’s like they want them ta be found… but that don’t make him stupid.”
“Why is it a him?” Rebecca quipped, unsure as to why the other blond would label their killer as a male. If they had strong reason to believe it wasn’t a female then they could narrow their search of possibilities.
“Cuz girls are more vengeful. This has ‘man’ written all ova it. Victims are all unconnected too. They didn’t know each other, never went ta da same places; shit, they hung out in random groups that had nothing to do with the other. I’m stuck here, Becca! It’s why I came to you.”
With a sigh, the twenty three-year-old gave him an understanding look, “I know. You always come to me to help you out with these things. The best idea I can offer you is to track down that new friend of yours and ask him what he knows. Then you can go from there.” When his cheeks flushed, she smirked.
“He already tol’ me what he knows an’ I ain’t eva gonna seek him out fer anything! Bastard’ll just start lickin’ me!” Her laugh only made his blush deeper, “Shut up Rebecca! I didn’t tell you so you’d make fun a me!” Her chuckles continued until she had to wipe away a tear.
“I don’t know what upsets you more: that you have to ask him for more help, or that if he wasn’t a vampire you would be getting laid.” Jou looked at her, mortified, but she just gave him a concerned look, “Jou, I know you’re bi and all, but no one could describe what happened in such detail unless there was desire. I can tell you like him.”
‘It’s because you were attacked and still can’t move passed that, huh?’ She thought to herself. The hunter had been a vulnerable, blubbering mess when he woke her up in the wee hours of that morning about eight years ago. She could only piece a few details together from what he told her, but they hadn’t talked about it since that night. He’d been lucky that her grandfather had books and that she’d been fascinated enough by the vampires to research it herself. She saved his life and cemented their friendship all in that one moment. The thought that one bad experience would haunt her friend for life was heartbreaking.
“Will ya stop readin’ them Yaoi novels an’ comics! It’s startin’ ta fry that genius brain a yers. I don’t like Kaiba! What’s there ta like? He’s arrogant, pushy, and not just any vamp, but a high up one! He thinks he can do whatever he wants ta me!” The look on his face was a mix of worry, fear and something else that didn’t seem to be negative.
“Like when he licked you and sucked on your neck?” The shorter blond smirked when the hunter flushed red, his eyes taking on a more glazed look as the memory resurfaced, “Yes, I can tell you hate him with a passion.” Her laughter filled the room as Jounouchi sputtered out a denial.
“Damn it! Shut up Rebecca!” Once she calmed down, she printed the list, and grabbed a small zipped up bag to stuff into her larger purse.
“Let’s go through this together.” At his disapproving frown she glared, “I may not be a hunter, but I’m helping you directly this time! Besides, you’ll keep me safe. I think we should start with the family units. That will narrow things down for us, especially the all female families on the list.” She gathered a few other things together in the larger bag and followed him out of her house.
“There’s an all female ‘family’?” He raised a brow.
“There’s two actually, and they’re all women who love women. It’s not in the sense that we would define family. It’s their clan. There are also six all male clans. The rest are mixed.” The corners of her lips curved slightly upwards.
Jounouchi couldn’t help his small smirk from appearing on his face as he let her lead the way, “In otha words, ya wanna check out a possible lay for ya-self? Ain’t that right? Cuz, I’m sure dis killer is a guy and not a girl so we don’t have ta check them out...”
“Nothing wrong with looking, killer or no killer! And I can’t help that I find the female form the most beautiful thing in the world. The curves and softness… Besides, we both know that if we were completely straight we’d be screwing each other right now.” She flashed him a grin and batted her lashes in an attempt to look adorable.
“Nah, I like tall dates, not midgets like you.” Jounouchi chuckled and dodged the swipe his friend took at him.
“You’re too spazzy anyway!” Rebecca huffed. They bickered, bantered and flirted, switching between the three as they headed for the nearest clan on their list. The interaction and sparks of teasing between them were normal; they had known each other since elementary school. The two of them had been through a lot and this was no different.
As they reached their first house, Rebecca focused on her interrogation strategy. Neither she nor Jounouchi had experience in investigation work, but she was looking forward to the challenge. They waited for the sun to completely set before knocking on the door. A middle aged male opened the door and narrowed his eyes.
“Can I help you?”
“Sorry to bother you, sir. We are heading an investigation and was hoping you can help us out.” The shortest blond said with a smile.
“Investigation? On what? I ain’t done nothin’!” He growled and was about to shut the door when Rebecca jammed her foot in the way.
“You misunderstand our intentions. We know you have done nothing wrong. We think you or one of your clan members might have seen something odd that can help us. You and your clan are not bad guys! We’re reaching out to clans we respect in hopes that you may have seen something we missed. Please, we only have a few questions. In fact, your daughter might be in danger if she enjoys going to Sparkles and Lace.” Rebecca pleaded. The man froze for a moment before turning his head to shout into his home.
“Miho! What’s that club you like? The one you go to with your friends?” A teenage looking girl appeared at her father’s side, a fanged smile on her face.
“There’s a few Daddy! The one I like best is Pink Mermaid, but we’ve been going to... Sparkles and Lace lately… Why?” Miho tapped her chin in thought and gave her father puppy eyes. “You’re not going to tell me I can’t go, right Daddy? I love dancing! Please don’t be a mean Daddy!” Tears appeared in her eyes and the older man seemed to melt.
“Of course not, Princess! Uh… Daddy just needs to talk to these nice people. Maybe you can tell them about the clubs? They… want to make sure the music is… uh…”
“We’re trying to see what music our guests enjoy so to have better and newer music available.” Rebecca spoke up. It only took a few minutes for both Jounouchi and her to be let in and seated on a comfy couch.
“Miho, we are so glad you enjoy the clubs we provide! I have a few questions. Not only do we want music ideas, but we want the clubs to be safe for all customers, human and vampire alike.” Rebecca smiled and listened with patience as the girl rambled on about how much she loved the decor, the music, and how much fun she had.
“It’s come to our attention that a few… creeps have gotten through onto the dance floor. We’re trying to crack down on these guys. Can you possibly help us out?” Several hours later, they were no closer to finding out any important information, at least in the hunter’s mind.
“This is pointless… How many more do we have ta see? Ain’t we seen like a hundred of them already?” Jou complained as they reached the next house. It was one of the largest on the list and one that the shortest blond seemed to be excited for.
“We found out a few things. The last six families have attended two of the clubs on the list and noticed there were more humans than vampires frequenting the clubs. That was information I couldn’t seem to find. Guess the clubs don’t want to seem like they cater to one or the other. Also, we made them feel they needed to be more alert. I gave them my dummy cell number to leave messages if they find anything… This is fun!” She lifted her hand to knock on the next door, but Jou grabbed her fist.
“Becca… how many more?” Jounouchi had taken more of a backseat and let his friend have her fun. He was surprised at how good she was at pulling information out of people. If she could figure it out for him, he’d be able to get that vampire to leave him alone and get back to hunting down the vile vampire gangs of the area. It was a win-win for him, even if he had to deal with a lame investigation. He’d rather just go with his gut. Currently, his gut was telling him it was way passed dinner and the cheese and cracker snacks he’d brought weren’t enough.
“We’ve made a good dent in the list… six mixed clans, three all male clans, and one female clan… This will be our last one for the evening since it’s almost dawn. We have… five more after this… Oh, come on! That’s amazing! We are close to being done! Then we can put in any new information and go from there! Don’t be a negative Nancy.” She huffed and jerked her hand away to knock on the door.
“Good evening… I’ve never seen you before. Are you lost?” A tall, thin, brunette woman answered the door. She gave Rebecca a once over and lifted her nose. Apparently she didn’t like what she saw. The only indication that Rebecca noticed the snub was a twitch of her left eyebrow.
“Hello, I’m here to speak to the clan leader. My assistant and I have a few questions concerning the clubs of the area, including the one she runs. It’s business. Is she available?” She gave her best I’m-cute-and-adorable smile, but the woman in front of her looked down her nose in annoyance. The vampire’s blue eyes glanced at the taller blond and she shook her head.
“No men are welcome here. Go away.”
‘That’s a first. How’s she going to get us in now? I ain’t lettin’ her go in alone.’ Jou thought to himself and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Am I to understand that you are possibly putting your leader in a sour business relationship with us do to your prejudice? I’d hate to have to explain to her that I was turned away from such a friendly member of her clan.” Rebecca’s smile remained, but her words were clipped and to the point.
“My mistress would not want to see such unsavory humans at this hour. Piss off!” The brunette snapped, only to freeze up a second later.
“My, my, such rude behavior. Anzu, make yourself useful and get me a glass while I speak to these… ‘unsavory humans’. You can manage that, right?” The woman that spoke was an inch shorter than the brunet, but she had an air of authority around her. Jounouchi watched as the woman she called ‘Anzu’ disappeared and the door widened. The new woman had long, light brown hair and vibrant green eyes. Her robe barely concealed the fact that she stood before them in just a lacy bra and underwear. She had a curvy, hourglass shape to her and she looked over Rebecca with a hunger in her eyes.
“You must be Miss Adami.” Rebecca smiled, her cheeks reddening as she took in the beauty of the other woman. The urge to reach out and touch the woman overcame her senses. Her hand was caught by the vampire, wrist up, and a quick kiss was placed on the pulsepoint of her wrist.
“Please, call me Melody. I usually do not allow men inside, but I will make an exception. I feel you have come with great importance. Please, follow me.” Jounouchi hesitated a moment. There was a flutter in his stomach that he should be worried, but he quickly entered when he saw Rebecca follow like an eager puppy. The door closed behind him of its own accord and he followed them into another room with large, plush furniture. He squeezed in between the vampire and his friend when he realized they were far too close for his liking.
“Jou!” Rebecca huffed and crossed her arms over her small chest. She glared at him and pouted at the “cock-block”.
“Becca, we have a mission here.” He reminded her sternly and turned to give the vampire in their company a strained smile. The stranger only giggled and scoot about a foot away from him and gave the pouting female a wink. A second later, Anzu returned with a wine glass half full with a dark red liquid and disappeared after the glass was handed to her mistress.
“How may I be of service to you?” Melody’s eyes shifted away from the tempting female visitor and clashed with the focused amber eyes of the male.
“You own and operate a club in da area, right?” Jounouchi watched her take a sip of, what he assumed was, blood and cross her legs. She didn’t look intimidated or concerned in the least bit.
“Yes, but that isn’t why you’re here… is it?” Her smug attitude began to rub the hunter the wrong way.
“No, but I’m just confirmin’ information I got.”
“I see…” She said softly, taking another sip even though her eyes never left his. Silence stretched between them.
“We’re here to talk about some safety concerns.” Rebecca glanced between her friend and the sexy vampire as they continued their staring contest.
“No… you’re here out of curiosity. He’s here about something darker than a simple concern…” Melody saw the hunter’s jaw tighten and she chuckled, breaking their staring contest. “I’m not afraid of you. I know you can be a threat, but I’m not worried. I’m of no danger to you either.”
“You know why we’re here, don’t you.” Jounouchi’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t have a negative feeling anymore.
“I have an idea… thirteen of them last I heard. I’ve already told Kaiba to piss off,” she smirked, “and he didn’t even get passed the front door. I find it interesting that he would send another male to question me. Is that why you brought me such a beautiful temptation?” She pouted when the hunter blocked her view of his friend.
“Why would Kaiba come to see you?”
“Sweetie, I may live in this area, but I am highly respected as an aristocrat. I told him he had no business with me and the King should have told him as much. He wasn’t happy… but that isn’t why I allowed you in. You are something different and I don’t mind helping you.” She gave him a small smile and set down her empty glass on a side table.
“She isn’t a bargaining tool and she leaves with me.” Jou growled, continuing to protect his friend from the vampire’s green gaze.
“I’m not a monster, nor am I vile. I currently have six human women living here because they were in abusive relationships. I know you are aware that not all vampires are evil so I’d appreciate it if you would give me the benefit of the doubt… To help you, I only need to shake your hand.” Melody held out her hand and waited for the edgy blond to shake it. It took a nudge from Rebecca for Jou to finally shake the woman’s hand. The vampire’s eyes widened and turned white. Her grip tightened and she gasped as a shock of electricity zapped both herself and the hunter. Seconds after touching his hand, she recoiled as if burned. She sucked in a breath while her eyes returned to normal.
Images had zipped across her mind like a movie being fast forwarded. There was a glimpse of pinkish-purple hair, pain, tears, and a hug from the friend at his side. Melody saw his fear and anger being swallowed up by desire and hunger. His views, she realized, were changing, shifting as he gave in to his longing. Soon he’d see the killer and stand before her King.
“What da fuck was dat all about?” Jou grumbled and shook his hand out. It was tingling.
“Are you ok?” Rebecca asked as she brushed the long light brown strands back and behind the vampire’s ear. She blushed when she was pulled in for a hug, the vampire’s face buried in the crook of her neck.
“Just… a moment… to collect myself… I’ll explain.” Melody took a few deep breaths, enjoying the scent of the human in her arms. Reluctantly, she pulled away and turned towards the untrusting hunter.
“I used to be by the King’s side as one of his advisors. I specialized as a… lie-detector. I have an ability to see, see but not hear, someone’s past, present, and future. Usually I am dealing with the accused and can determine their innocence or guilt. I can also share what I see. I stepped down to retire and enjoy myself… It’s understandable for you not to believe me… I can’t blame you for your feelings, especially considering your first exposure to my kind while you were a teenager at a club.”
“I… How do…” Jou’s eyes widened and his hands shook lightly. The vampire appeared apologetic as she continued.
“I’m afraid the thirteen is much higher, the other victims are hidden in the earth… I know who you seek and I must warn you that the road ahead isn’t as simple as you hope it to be. He hides well and has others in line to take the fall. I do not have a name, but I have a face. You have met him before and were lucky. Seek out Bandit Keith. He’s a scoundrel, but he will have information for you that will lead you in the right direction. You need a name and witnesses, two things that I cannot give you. Keith has a witness and with your mate’s help you will have a name. Expect to meet our King and know that he appreciates your work as a hunter. Rewards are in your future.” Melody smiled sadly, her fingers twirled in the soft blond pigtails of the human in front of her. She watched the hunter as his eyes darted around, not looking at anything, thinking and trying to make sense of all she said.
“He’s on the list, Jou. His clan is one of the violent ones…” Rebecca confirmed, her eyes closing as the fingers in her hair pulled the locks free of the hair ties. She sighed as her scalp was massaged.
“Bandit Keith… Ok… Wait, mate? What are you… What do you mean by that?” Jounouchi questioned after a moment. He refocused on the vampire and his friend, not liking how close they were. He watched the vampire’s cheeks redden.
“I… may have misspoke. When you see Keith, be on your toes… you are being watched by your killer. Have more faith in Kaiba and don’t be afraid to take what you want from him… The sun is rising and I should be heading to bed… Will you visit me, beautiful?” She asked Rebecca, planting a light kiss on her forehead.
“Yeah, she’ll be back… If anything happens ta her dat she ain’t asked fer… I’ll be back too.” The hunter answered as he got to his feet. He pulled a blushing Rebecca to her feet and headed towards the door.
“Good day!” Melody called after them. Once she heard the click of the door locking, she rose to her feet and headed to her room. She picked up her cell phone and dialed a familiar number. The line picked up after two rings.
“Hello?”
“Sire? It’s Melody.” She heard some shuffling on the other end.
“Melody? My child, it has been too long! What purpose is your call?” The sleepy King asked. “I’d just fallen asleep.”
“Sire, I was visited by a hunter -a good hearted hunter- and I have learned something distressing… There is a snake amongst your upper class. The hunter is a friend and will find this snake. When he does, call upon me and I shall render my services to you one last time. That is all I can tell you.” She waited for his agreement before wishing him a good day and disconnecting the line. With a sigh, she curled up in her bed and thought about the young woman named Rebecca.
Elsewhere…
“I dunno if I trust her, but I know ya ain’t gonna listen ta me either. I say we skip da rest a those clans on yer list and I’ll go check into Bandit Keith, alone… You go visit yer new girlfriend.” Jou chuckled, deciding to skip his usual speech of ‘it’s not safe’ and ‘just don’t go’. It would be a wasted breath anyway. He could see his friend was smitten.
“I’m going to send that Keith guy a message. I’d feel more comfortable with you meeting him in an open area where your vampire friend can help you out.” Rebecca ignored his teasing as she typed away on her computer. She printed out her message and stuck it in an envelope.
“I have you meeting in two days at your favorite park. I’ll deliver it, you go home and get some sleep. You need it.” It didn’t take much convincing as she shooed her friend out the front door.
“Alright, alright! I’m goin’… Good luck, Becca, not that you’ll need it!” He yawned and left to head to his own hideaway. He had two days. He hoped he’d find the answers he needed so he could move on. Somehow, he agreed with Melody; it wasn’t going to be that easy.

Author’s note: I hope you all liked this one. I promise it gets steamier with the next part of this drabble. I also hope my OC, Melody, was well received. She’s only here to help the story along… and, apparently, to find a way to get me to write another scene with her and Rebecca in a more intimate situation… Anyway, till next time! ^_^()
