“Bakura, I’m so sorry.”
Bakura slid his eyes over to look at the ghost like form the other had. “How can you even bare to look at me?” he whispered softly. “I let my guard down. I got attacked. I… I sealed you away in here.” he said gripping his millennium ring a bit tightly. He looked into the concerned amethyst eyes of his lover with sadness filling his own. “It’s my fault that they forced me to lock you away. It’s my fault you broke your prom-“
“Stop!” Yuugi shouted before making his tone softer. “Please stop. None of that was your fault, Bakura. Honestly, we had no reason to suspect that Kenichi would try something like that. You worked with him for years and he always seemed like that hard-working, decent guy. Even when there were company events and mini parties to celebrate project successes, he never tried anything like that. Hell, he never even looked at you the wrong way because he probably would’ve been dead well before then.” Yuugi said with a humorless chuckle following.
Despite how upset he was about what had happened, Bakura couldn’t help but chuckle a little as well. “Well, based on all these memories I got back, I won’t say you’re wrong.” he said with a bit of a smile. After a few moments, he spoke up again. “I should’ve known you were trapped in there. I mean it would explain how the hell you were sending me letters and why I’ve been so tired recently.”
Yuugi nodded a little with a smile. “Yes, though now that you know where I am, I can ‘visit’ you a bit more often if you’d like. We still need to get my body back and you’re the only one who can do it.”
“Where?” he asked closing his eyes. It wouldn’t be hard for Yuugi to discern what he was talking about, and even though he was still waiting on an answer, he had the feeling that he already knew where he had to go.
Yuugi looked at him and then looked away with an audible sigh. “You already know.” he said staring at the wall instead of looking at Bakura. “It’s in the bottom sub-level basement of Kaiba Corp. My body is basically being fed nutrients, worked out properly, and kept alive and healthy until such time that Atem decides I’ve learned my lesson. Of course, he’ll learn his lesson soon enough.”
The white-haired male just nodded and kept his eyes closed while still dealing with the onslaught of emotions from all of his memories, but more or less that last one in particular. “Why did it take so long for you to be able to contact me?” he asked softly. It had been quite a while since Yuugi was trapped within the confines of the ring, and so he wondered if Yuugi did truly hate him even a bit for unknowingly locking him in there.
Yuugi looked at him with a mixed smile. “Several reasons. However, none of them had to deal with Atem tricking you into locking me in that prison. At first, I was angry and it had just happened. I didn’t want you to believe I was angry at you and I couldn’t figure out the way around the taboo. Atem made it so I couldn’t just flat out contact you right away. It would’ve been pointless for him to have you lock me away and then free me and remember only a week later or something. You needed time to heal even if you couldn’t remember why, and I needed to calm down.”
“Once I had calmed down, you were blocking everything off without realizing it. Of course, you had no reason to even open your mind due to what he had done and I… I needed to plot my revenge. It wasn’t hard trust me, but I started to realize that some of my memories were fuzzy as well. Do you remember how I asked you those questions in the beginning? How my letters seemed accusatory of both you and our true friends? How I thought you went to him to lock you away?” Yuugi asked, but expected no answer.
“My will had started to meld with the darkness in a way that I wouldn’t have ever done. It started to believe that you actually wanted to send me away. It wasn’t until you told me how you didn’t remember that the fog that had been building started clearing up. I had believed we had fought and I got locked away, but that memory, the moment I had gotten through your door, that memory was there and then I had fully realized what happened. Atem had probably wanted to get rid of me for a while after he heard about Pegasus and what he had tried to do from his lover, but you getting hurt was the perfect opportunity for him to do it.” he told him with a light ‘heh’. “I suppose he underestimated us and how much we loved each other. After all, you felt like something was missing and wanted to know what. It cracked your door open little by little until I was able to start talking to you once more even if it was through letters.”
Bakura took in this information and frowned. He had never liked the way the pharaoh seemed to try and control everything about their little group of friends. He sighed as he thought about the upcoming tasks and he knew that he was the one that had to retrieve Yuugi’s body. After all, he had designed the security system and had managed to find the holes in every security system that Kaiba had created himself. Bakura knew about that particular basement and the room that seemed to be sealed off from pretty much everyone, but a select few. He hadn’t gone down there in a while as he chose to give that task to someone else, but he supposed it was time to revisit it.
“What’s the next part of the ritual?” he asked him.
A small smile lit up Yuugi’s face. “For you to have faith in me?” he asked with a light laugh. “No, but you will need anything you have left over from the other parts of the ritual. The glass was already absorbed into your hand, and you are going to want to know the spell to summon me like the back of your hand. You will need to not only deactivate the machines keeping me in that suspended hell, but you have to recite the spell while doing so. Lastly, I’ll need a few drops of your blood from the hand that the glass shards got absorbed into. Just prick your finger and touch my forehead. Do not be alarmed if the blood turns black or if it absorbs into my skin. It is needed. I figure you have about ten minutes before Atem and his minions show up. Is that enough time?” he asked.
The smirk that appeared on Bakura’s face was both playful and happy for the challenge that this would present. “More than enough.” Bakura finally opened his eyes again to reach out and touch Yuugi. “I can talk to Ryou now, can’t I? I remember everything and that means… there isn’t a taboo anymore right?”
“Correct. The taboo was breaking the moment you began remembering who I was and pieces of what happened that night. Ryou never felt as though it was the right thing to do, but at the time, I think, he was more worried about your survival more than anything. I am thankful for that. I don’t think I could’ve handled being in there and knowing you were no longer able to be reached.” he said softly. “There were others, but it was a shocking situation.”
The room was filled with silence before a sob broke out into the room. It was followed by another and another and another until Bakura finally allowed himself to grab his pillow and fully cry. Yuugi didn’t say anything, but simply stayed with Bakura as much as he could for the rest of the day. He wished more than anything, that he could hold Bakura at that moment and reassure him that everything would be alright. They would have each other once again and they would have their revenge.
