Disclaimer: I do not own YuGiOh!, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer - I don't own them. If I did, Marik, Yami, and Bakura would be occupying my bed, and I would never be at the computer.
Review Responses - It's about time I did them, ess ess *grin*
Acidburn aka Acidflower - It's always great when an author I enjoy reading compliments my work. I couldn't be happier that you like the story,
especially since it's all for you babe : )
Shakster - Hope you continue to enjoy it ^.^
DarkQueen - Definitely continuing : o How could I not, when so many people like it? *grin*
Motzartz_Ballad - More torture on the way . . . although not in the physical sense, yet. I love mental fics as well as physical . . . and somehow, it seems
appropriate. Mind games are so much fun : )
princessoflightanddarkness - Mind blowing, huh? Cool . . . that's always a compliment ^.^ And you'll definitely be seeing more : )
Courtney - Yeah. I feel bad for what I'm doing to them . . . but at the same time, it's so much to explore a darker Yami. After all, anyone who's seen
the actual first season of Yu-gi-Oh, or the manga, knows that Yami was no laughing matter when it all began. Hell, he burned a guy alive for threatening
Yugi's friends . . . he was one sadistic, twisted, maniacal spirit, which makes one wonder where that went. This is a soft-of answer to that.
Citricacid2001 - because the stable ones are the one's you least expect it from, which makes it that much worse when it happens. I should know . . .
my friends are still scared as hell that little ol' me is writing this.
Author's Notes - I recieved one of the biggest compliments in the world on this fic the other day, and I just have to share because I'm still totally
amused and amazed by it. A friend of mine, who is into the whole S&M thing, and is a really dark, maniacal person himself, told me that he found this
disturbing and totally demented. *hugs herself* Oh, I just LOVE that. He also couldn't believe that I was writing this . . . I'm not usualhis his kind of
person, and he's amazed I even HAVE this kind of darkness within me. Funny what you hide from your friends, ain't it? *grin* Well, anyway, here's
another chapter and a new Game. Yami's at it again . . . and it's only going to get worse.
Chapter 3 - Games of Truth
"You should pay more attention in that little room of yours, my little light," Yami murmured outside of Yugi's Soul Room door. "If you were not so
busy keeping me out, you might have realized your body has healed enough to warrant one of us awakening. But it won't be you, little one. Oh no . . .
we have our own plans to get you to come out . . . and first on the list is your precious friend Joey." He chuckled quietly, turning to the other Soul
Room door that occupied the hallway. This too was tightly sealed . . . but that was by his choice, not it's occupents. Laying a hand on it, he grinned
sardonically, sensing the weakening spirit on the other side.
"You should enjoy this too, Pharaoh. With what little time you have left before we become completely inseperable, you will watch everything that you
have given to that little beauty crumble and fall into dust and decay." He stepped back when there was a suprisingly strong response from the other
side.
"Leave our friends out of this, shadow!"
"You have no say in the subject, weak one," the shadow snarled. "Soon you will no longer be able to hold us off and we shall engulf you." There was
no further response from the Pharaoh locked within . . . the true Yami had turned his attentions back to keeping himself whole and apart from his
shadowy sub-conscious. That was fine . . . soon even he would not be able to halt the corruption of his own soul.
Grinning maniacally, the shadow Yami faded out of the hallway, leaving his two captives to what little hope was left them. It would be destroyed soon
enough.

"Joey," the still form on the bed murmured. Joey looked up in shock, only to jump up in surprise as he found blood red eyes staring at him from a wan,
pale face.
"Yami!" Joey crowed, then clapped a hand over his mouth at the loudness of his own voice. "You're awake!" he said, dropping his voice back down
to a normal level. "Are you okay?"
"Yes . . . I have had to wait until Yugi's body had healed enough for me to gain control. How bad is it?" Joey sank down into his chair again, his amber
eyes growing serious.
"Yugi took quite a beating," he murmured softly. "Most of the damage is healed now . . . the doctor's have been more worried about his mental state
than anything." Yami nodded slowly, eyes turning to the ceiling to stare up at it in silence. Joey shrugged off the feeling of 'wrongness' that was tugging
at the back of his mind at the action. Yami had just been through just as much as Yugi had . . . him acting weird was to be expected. But still . . . Yami
usually would have asked about everyone and then told him if Yugi was okay. For the spirit to fall silent with so much left unsaid was strange, being
how he was usually a straightforward person. "Is . . . is Yugi okay?"
"No," Yami murmured, not meeting the tall blonde's eyes. "He's refusing to wake up . . . I believe he is trying to avoid facing what happened to him."
The figure lying in the bed turned solemn blood red eyes to the taller boy. "He may never come back."
"Yami . . . do you know who did this to him?" Joey asked, leaning forward. He could almost swear he saw a ghost of a smile cross the spirit's lips, an
unholy gleam in the solemn eyes before Yugi's other replied.
"No," Yami whispered. "It was too dark . . . we did not get any idea of who it was. They were waiting for Yugi when he came home from the arcade . .
. they seemed angry that he hadn't been home after school." Joey stood suddenly.
"I have to go let the others know you're awake!" he said excitedly. Yami nodded, and watched as Joey raced from the room before a twisted, sadistic
grin darkened his features.
"Oh yes . . . please do go tell the others, Joey Wheeler . . . and let the true Shadow Games begin."
*-------*-------*-------*-------*
Backed into a corner of his Soul Room, underneath a shadowed, winding stone staircase, the true Yami shuddered as he felt echoes of his shadow's
sadistic pleasure. Truth be told, that side of him was getting stronger with each passing day . . . while his own, still as of yet untouched corner of his
Soul Room was growing smaller with each passing breath.
He wished desperately that he could get to the door . . . get out into the hallway and wrestle his dark consciousness for control so that he could at least
warn the others to stay away. Perhaps, if he got lucky enough, he could even get his hands on the Puzzle and shatter it. He knew Yugi would never
reassemble the item . . . not after what he had done to his little light.
The Pharaoh moaned, cradling his head in his hands as images of that night seeped into his tormented mind. He tried to deny the pleasure that pulsed
through his veins as he remembered the feel of Yugi writhing beneath him as his shadow buried his body deep into the boy's virgin warmth, bathing in
the failing light of the innocent soul he had ripped to shreds. It was no use . . . he had enjoyed it as much as his darkness had, reveling in it even as he
had tried to stop it. He had wanted to touch his hikari for what seemed like forever . . . ever since Battle City had ended, he'd been wrestling with his
growing feelings for his little light, knowing that his wishes could never come to fruition. He was a spirit, after all . . . there was no way for him and Yugi
to be together. His little one had known this as well . . . even as he had echoed his yami's wishes and dreams.
He wretched, dry heaving in disgust at both himself and his shadow. He was here to protect Yugi . . . had made that decision unconsciously and
unselfishly when Yugi had first assembled the Puzzle. And now, unwittingly a passenger in his own consciousness, he was going to destroy the boy he
had come to love.
If only he dared enter the darkness of his own making . . . but he was afraid. For the first time in his existence, Yami was truly afraid . . . afraid of
himself, afraid of what the darkness that was now unleashed would do . . . and afraid of losing what little power he had left to stop this. Tears trickled
silently down his face as crimson eyes stared out in desolation at the darkness engulfing his Soul Room . . . and inside, he wished desperately for a
miracle. His friend's and his aibou were in more danger than they could comprehend . . . and he was virtually helpless to stop himself from destroying
them all.
*--------*-------*-------*--------*
The dark Yami sighed, settling back into the cushions of the Motou couch as he stared in boredom at the television. He had been home for two days,
and the old man was beginning to get on his nerves. He wished that Solomon would leave him in peace . . . he'd had no opportunity to act on his
wishes to teach both his weaker self and his little Yugi the lesson he wanted them to learn.
"Yami," Solomon called from the kitchen. "I have to go out this evening, but Joey is coming over to keep you company. Is that a problem?" Yami
smiled to himself, a twisted grimace as his wishes were finally answered.
"That will be perfect, Grandpa Motou," he called, trying to keep the dark satisfaction out of his voice. "You need to go out and relax . . . I'm sure me
and Joey will be just fine here on our own."
'Perfect, indeed . . .' he thought to himself, licking his lips in anticipation of the blood shed to come. 'I hope you are both prepared for the beginning
of the end,' he whispered in his mind. There was no answer . . . not that he had expected any.
He whiled away the hours until Joey arrived planning how best to go about his wishes . . . and discovered both the perfect solution and the best way to
cause his others' pain. All it would require would be a little Shadow magic . . . and all of his demented and dark desires. He grinned to himself, blood
red eyes growing cold as he thought of the night's pleasures ahead.
The shadow was hard pressed not to sigh in relief as Solomon left the house, leaving him and the tall blonde duelist alone.
"So . . . Yami . . . what did you want to do tonight?" Joey asked as he came in from the kitchen. Yami practically purred at how easy this was going to
be . . . the blonde suspected nothing, and his other self could get no warning to the boy and fend him off at the same time. One way or the other,
something was going to be destroyed tonight . . . the blonde's spirit or his own weaker self's.
"Actually, Joey . . . I have something I wish to get from Yugi's room. I'll be right back, if you don't mind." Standing slowly, the darker Yami made his
way up the stairs to Yugi's bedroom. He shuddered as he walked into the open space . . . while the evidence of his passion's with the little hikari were
no longer in evidence, he could still sense the swirling darkness his act's had wrought, the sadistic feelings pouring over his skin in waves of pleasure at
the pain that had been caused in this room. And it would only get better tonight.
Fingering the Puzzle sardonically, a smirk crossed his lips as he spied the little one's dueling deck. 'Such a weak excuse for a deck,' the dark thought
to himself. His deck was much stronger . . . and much more appropriate to his tastes. Thinking of his own deck gave him an idea . . . one that curled in
his mind like fire and ice.
"Perfect indeed," he whispered to himself. "Joey . . . could you come give me a hand?" he called out. He heard the blonde's assent and faded into the
shadows beside the doorway. "Let the Game begin . . ." he hissed, blood red eyes glowing with malice as he waited.
"Yami?" Joey called softly, stepping into the room slowly, confused. Yami had said he was going to Yugi's room to get something . . . so where was
he?
"I'm here, Joey . . . and now, so are you," the dark whispered. The door slammed shut, causing Joey to whirl around in surprise. Yami stood leaning
against the door, his back braced against it as he held the Puzzle before him.
"What's up, man?" Joey murmured, his amber eyes widening as the shadows in the room stretched and warped, wrapping them both in an inky
blackness that Joey recognized all too well. "What are you doing?!"
"I want to play a game with you, Joey Wheeler . . . and the price of losing will be high," the spirit murmured, dark smoke swirling around the lithe figure
as it stepped towards him. Joey backed up a step, suddenly wary.
"You're not Yami . . ." he murmured. The spirit laughed, a quiet chuckle that sent shivers down the blonde's spine.
"Oh, it is me, Joey," Yami replied. "I'm all alone in here . . . my little light is sealed up tight in his Soul Room, and he refuses to come out and play with
me. So . . . I guess I'll have to settle for second best . . . but then again, you don't even rank as that without his help." Joey gasped, staring in shock at
the blunt statement. "Truth hurt, Joey? Or perhaps you would rather I left you your little delusions of grandeur."
"No . . ." the blonde said, backing up further. "Bakura was right . . . you're not yourself. Where's the real Yami?" The spirit growled . . . and suddenly
Joey found himself on the ground, the slight form pinning him as he stared into glowing red eyes from scant inches away as the dark Yami growled into
his face.
"WE are the real Yami . . . not that pathetic excuse for a Pharaoh you have come to know," it hissed. "He will cease to exist soon enough . . . we are
becoming one, and he is helpless to stop it. Just as he was helpless to protect his little light from what we did . . . what he wanted to do and never had
the strength to take!"
"What . . . are . . . you?" Joey gasped, his breath hitching in his chest from the effort of trying to breathe with the weight on his chest of the smaller
body above him. The figure above him laughed, cold humor reflected in bloody eyes as it stared down into frightened amber.
"We are the true Yami . . . the darkness he hid away from you all. Now we are free . . . and we want to play a game with you, Joey Wheeler." The spirit
stood abruptly, surprising Joey as he could suddenly breathe again. The figure motioned off into the shadows . . . and two other, familiar figures sprang
into existence.
"JOEY!" Yugi shouted, straining against the glass cube he found himself imprisoned in as he stared helplessly at his friend. The second figure was
silent, huddled in on itself behind a cube of writhing blackness that refused any a clear view. There was movement, as if a head had been raised at the
noise, but no sound came from within that inky blackness. Yugi shrank back against the far wall of his prison as the dark Yami approached, one lightly
tanned hand running over the smooth surface of the outside wall as he bent down to smile sadistically as his captive.
"Why hello, little toy," he whispered, causing Yugi to whimper and shrink further in upon himself. "I am so glad you could join us in our game . . ."
"Leave him alone . . ." Yugi pleaded. "Joey's done nothing to you . . ."
"Oh, but I disagree, little hikari," the dark murmured, tongue flicking out to run over his lips in delight. "He's lived in your shadow and mine for long
enough, don't you think?" Turning away, he approached the darker cube, his steps faltering slightly. "And you, my weaker self . . . enjoy this while you
can. Yavenaven't much time left," it whispered, it's voice carrying slightly on the evil born wind of the Shadow Realm. It stepped back in shock as the
inky cube cleared for a moment . . . allowing Yugi to see the captive inside.
"Yami!" he whispered, his voice aching with pain as he saw his true other. The Pharaoh was on his knees, glaring up at his darker self with evident
hatred and pain. His yami glanced at him . . . and Yugi whimpered at the total helplessness that was in that gaze. There was fear there as well . . . and a
self-loathing that made Yugi cringe away further. He'd hoped desperately that what the dark Yami had said was a lie . . . that it wasn't a part of his
Yami at all, but some other, dark spirit that had somehow found it's way into the Puzzle. That hope was shattered by the look on the former Pharaoh's
face . . . there was an acceptance there that told him all he truly need to know. The darker Yami was indeed a part of his yami . . . and things would
never be the same again.
"It is time for a true Shadow Game," the other whispered, regaining it's calm. Turning to Joey, it approached the blonde as he stood, staring from one
captive to the other in helpless confusion.
"What the fuck is going on here?" he shouted, causing the shadows to swirl in angry patterns around him. The dark Yami chuckled suddenly.
"We're going to play a game with you, Joey," he said, a sibilant hiss of voice. "But you're not going to be playing against us . . . you're going to be
one of the pieces." Joey gasped as he suddenly found himself hauled into the air, chains wrapped around his arms and legs as his clothing disappeared
in a swirl of smoke and darkness. "This game is for Yugi . . ." A knife suddenly appeared, it's blade carved with ancient Egyptian markings, in the
dark's outstretched hand. "This will be a game of truths . . . truth's that will hurt. It is up to you which one of them suffers, little light."
"No . . . I won't play!" Yugi shouted, standing up in his prison and banging his fists against the wall. "You can't make me hurt my friends!"
"Oh, but you must," the dark hissed, turning burning blood red eyes on the small teenager. "You must realize that they deserve it . . . truths are hard to
face in the light of day, and in the Shadow Realm they can be deadly. But if you do not wish to play . . ." He turned to Joey, running the knife lightly
along the blonde's back. The razor sharp edge parted skin like butter, causing Joey to scream and yank at his bonds. Yugi whimpered at the sound, his
hands rising to his ears in a vain attempt to block it out.
Yami regarded him silently, a tongue flicking out to lick the blade clean as he met wide amethyst eyes across the short distance.
"So . . . will you now play, little one? Or shall we continue our fun?" Yugi nodded jerkily.
"What must I do?" he whispered fearfully. The dark Yami laughed.
"Only tell the truth little one . . . the truth you tell will determine the hurt and who it goes to." A chair appeared, which the dark settled into gleefully, a
blood thirsty smile on it's too familiar face. "Let us begin . . . how do you feel about Joey Wheeler?"
"He's my friend," Yugi replied. The spirit shook his head.
"Not what we asked, little one," he replied. There were two cries . . . one from the shadowed cube that held his true Yami, and one from Joey as
another line appeared upon the blonde's back. "Oh . . . did we forget to mention that if you don't answer it correctly, both will suffer?"
"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?" Yugi shouted . . . and stepped back when the dark one was suddenly in front of his prison.
"We want your spirit broken, your light extinguished," he hissed, blood red eyes gleaming with hatred. "You are the reason we were imprisoned . . . it
is you that we wish to see suffer now." The spirit was suddenly back in the chair. "Now then . . . again. How do you feel about Joey Wheeler?"
"I . . ." Yugi whispered, "I . . . love him. He's my best friend." There was a cry from the shadowed cube. "WHAT DID I DO?" he cried out. The dark
smiled.
"Merely told the truth, young one. But truth's will always hurt at least one person. My other wished to be the only love in your life, foolish Pharaoh that
he was." The dark sighed. "Now . . . next question. How do you feel about your Yami?"
"I love him," Yugi answered promptly . . . and cringed as Joey screamed. "Why are you doing this?" he whimpered.
"We are the ones asking questions, not you, little light. Stick to the rules," the dark said. "Joey loves you . . . his heart is breaking even now knowing
that you love another. Such a terrible truth . . . but it would have had to come out some time, would it not?" The dark chuckled. "Oh, how I do love
this game . . ." it murmured. "Next question . . . have you ever felt that Joey was holding you back, being the second rate duelist he is?"
"No," Yugi answered automatically . . . and both captives screamed. "ALRIGHT! YES . . . yes, I have felt that, but I never meant it, Joey, honest!" He
sobbed, his arms wrapping around himself. "Please . . . no more . . ." he whimpered.
"The Game isn't over, little one," the dark Yami murmured, smiling sadistically as he watched the torment the young one was going through. "Next
question . . . have you ever resented Yami for being the stronger duelist and having to help you?" Yugi was silent. "Answer, or they both suffer!" the
dark hissed.
"YES!" Yugi shouted . . . and then cried out himself when he heard his other's cry of pain. "RA DAMN YOU!" he screamed, beating his fists against
the enclosure. "Please . . . no more . . ." he whispered, falling to his knees with one hand pressed against the barrier. "I . . . don't want to hurt them
anymore . . ."
"The Game is not done until we say it is done, little light," the dark whispered from just the other side of the enclosure. "But we can make it end sooner
. . . if you are willing." Yugi looked up into blood red eyes, and cringed at the lust he saw there.
"No . . ." he whispered. "Not again . . ."
"Fine," the dark Yami replied, and stood abruptly. "Next question . . ." he murmured, and then froze when another voice broke in, one that was
completely unexpected.
"You didn't tell him how he could win," the Pharaoh growled, one hand pressed against his own enclosure to steady himself as he stood slowly. "In
order for it to be a Game, there must be a way to win and to lose. You are cheating, darkness of my soul, and a penalty game is called for."
"Shut up!" the dark hissed, facing his other angrily.
"Penalty's in the Shadow Realm are just as deadly as truths, my dark," Yami murmured. "Let them go . . . before the Shadow Realm notices your lapse
of truth in a true Shadow Game."
"Fuck you, you weak . . ." The shadows began to move around the dark, causing it to freeze. "Fine," he finished instead. "This Game is ended . . . we
will continue later." Joey fell to the ground behind him, his clothing once more in place. "It was becoming boring anyway." He strode over to the
blonde, towering over the fallen figure as he thought. "What to do with you, weakling?" the dark murmured. "We think . . . that we will leave you here
for a while. It is more fun when we have multiple play toys." Summoning a second glass enclosure, Yami sealed off the blonde from the outside world,
then turned to his other two captives. "As for you, you interfering weakness . . . return to your lonely prison. Your strength must eventually run out . . .
and then there will be no one left to hold us back." Yugi had a single moment to meet his true Yami's eyes before the spirit disappeared, dismissed
back to wherever his dark half was holding him prisoner.
"Yami . . ." he whispered . . . and theinkeinked as he found himself back in his Soul Room. "What?" he murmured, confused.
"You have to come out sometime, little one," the dark said from the other side of the door. "You cannot remain in there forever . . . and your friends
will continue to suffer until you do so."
"Joey," Yugi whispered, falling to his knees. "No . . . oh Ra, who will be next?" The slight teenager shivered, tears trickling slowly down his face as he
thought of the danger to his friends. "There has to be some way to warn them . . . oh Yami, why didn't you tell me?"
