have passed since the incident at the clinic, luckily for Seto there wasn’t
much talk about Yuugi or Ryou. And the two haven’t called either. So that was
good on his behalf. As for Yami, he was still experiencing a little bit of
morning sickness. But that wasn’t too uncommon in the fourth month.
“I hate
this… I mean I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I really don’t want
to go through this for the next five months. I will not be camping out in the
bathroom.” Yami protested, directing the last statement toward their growing
son.
“But we
love you anyway.” Seto grinned, kissing Yami on the forehead before he put his
hand on his stomach. It didn’t take him too long to get used to the fact of the
pregnancy. It was still a bit of a shock though.
Yami
smiled, and then looked at the clock. Seto was going to be late to work, and he
really didn’t want that to happen again. But this time it wasn’t his fault
really. At least not really, he couldn’t help that he got sick at 2am, and accidentally woke Seto up.
“Seto, you’re
going to be late.” Yami spoke finally, his voice getting back to normal if not
sounding tired. He could see Seto’s expression change rather quickly though.
“Damn it… I
should have been gone by now! I don’t know when I’ll be home Yami. Just don’t
over do it, and whatever you do… don’t have Yuugi or the puppy here. I’ll see
you later.” Seto spoke simply as he ran out the door, but not before kissing
Yami on the forehead.
Yami nodded
before he moved to lie back on the couch. He could always try to think why Seto
hated Yuugi so much, and then it dawned on him. It was because of what happened
while he was in the hospital after the lobster incident. Or rather, the
anaphylactic shock that nearly cost him his life.
~*Flashback *~
“It’s not looking good, Mr. Kaiba. Did you
know about his seafood allergy before?” A doctor asked as he finished hooking
Yami up to a few tubes and an IV to help get some fluids and medicines in his
body.
“He didn’t tell me. All he told me
was that he couldn’t breathe after he had a few bites. I didn’t think he was
allergic to it…” Seto sighed, and looked over at the bed. He watched as Yami’s
chest rose and fell very slowly.
“Shellfish allergies are the most
common, but he probably wasn’t aware of it himself. It only occurs with certain
kinds, such as shrimp or lobster. But right now I’m afraid your friend isn’t
doing so well.” The doctor spoke softly.
“Do
something damn it! I am not going to have him die because of your
incompetence!” Seto growled, glaring at the doctor before he sat in a chair
that was situated near the bed.
He and Yami were only together for
about 3 months now, and a bit of their rivalry was
still existent. But he couldn’t help but feel slightly protective over the
shorter, violet/crimson eyed duelist.
Yami on the other hand was
definitely not doing well at all. His breathing was shallow and labored, and he
looked much paler than usual. Even his eyes had dark rings around them, a major
contrast to the usual sharp look. He did not want to be seen as weak though.
“There is not much we can do right
now. All we can do is give him Intravenous fluids,
antibiotics and epinephrine to keep his airways clear. That and pray that he
makes it. He had a rather bad reaction.” The doctor spoke truthfully, noting
the flushed cheeks of the other.
“Alright, I won’t be gone long. I’ll
be right back Yami…” Seto spoke softly before he left the former spirits
hospital room. Of course he didn’t know that Yuugi was waiting right by the
door.
Then, just as soon as Seto left the
smaller hikari entered the room and sat by his darker half’s bedside. He
watched as Yami struggled to breathe, tears were building in his violet eyes.
End Flashback
Yami sat up
sharply, panting for a moment as those images came back. But he also felt
something else; it wasn’t his pounding heart either. He put one hand on his
stomach, and smiled. Their son just kicked for the first time… this was great.
The smile didn’t leave his face once. However, he looked at the clock. How long
was he asleep?
“He missed
it…” Yami sighed and stood up from the couch, he was out of it for a good two
hours with his memories of what happened earlier. However the former Pharaoh
was disappointed that Seto had just missed this.
Yami looked
over as the telephone rang. He grumbled slightly reaching over and picking up
the cordless. “It better not be a telemarketer like last time… I’ll strangle
their necks through the phone… Hello?”
“Yami? It’s
Seto. How are things there?” Seto asked with calmness in his voice. Yami
frowned. He knew that calmness by now.
“Did you
just fire someone?” Seto could feel Yami’s glare through the phone.
“I had to, Yami. She kept hitting on me. It
was rather annoying…” The chair Seto was sitting in squeaked when he leaned
back. “She was a damn good secretary
too…”
“That’s the
fourth one this month, Seto! You’ll run out of applicants at this rate!” Yami
could hear Seto take the phone off of speaker.
“Don’t yell, Yami. You’ll stress
yourself. Besides, you never answered my question.” Yami stared blankly at
the ceiling
“What
question?” Seto sighed on the other end.
“How are things going on your end of town?”
Yami smiled as he felt yet another kick from their son. He also had to stifle a
hiccup.
“Your son
is giving me the hiccups with his kicks.” Yami could tell that Seto was fuming
on the other end by his silence. “Yes, you missed it. But there’s more to
come.”
“Yes, but I wanted to feel his first kick. I
wanted to be there.” Seto pouted, putting Yami on speaker phone again so he
could cross his arms.
“Love, I
need to go give Kamilah her bottle. I’ll keep you updated.” Seto gave a sound
of agreement and hung up. Yami slid from the bed, putting on his slippers and
trudged along the plush carpets towards the nursery.
Kamilah was
standing up in the crib once more as she saw Yami walk into the nursery again.
A very small smile crept across her lips; he was one of the people she looked
forward to seeing every day. Seto and Mokuba were the other two as well. But
she loved everyone just the same, considering she was a baby still. She had no
favorites yet.
“How is my
Kami-chan doing? I hope you’re doing well.” Yami smiled, picking her up
carefully before walking over to the rocking chair with the bottle in one hand.
Kamilah
just giggled and put her hands on the bottle once Yami sat down to feed her.
She couldn’t feed herself just yet, but she was able to hold the bottle a
little bit. She just loved the attention she was getting right now.
“I know,
you can’t answer me. But one day you will say your first word, and hopefully
your daddy will be here to hear it. I don’t want him upset again.” Yami spoke
softly, kissing Kamilah on the top of her forehead gently. He then placed her
back in her crib after making sure everything was taken care of.
After all
of that, Yami decided to go downstairs and fix himself something to eat. This
time he wasn’t going to go for the Rocky
Road ice cream again, instead he went for the
pizza and sour cream again. But his newest thing was soba noodles, wasabi and
spiced shrimp. Gross to most people and to himself normally but he had an
excuse.
“Master
Yami, is there a reason you are mixing up that concoction again? You had that
last night before you went to bed. And I believe you got sick afterwards.”
Jeeves spoke, watching Yami as he dug through the refrigerator.
“I know
Jeeves. But that was the Rocky
Road and root beer that made me sick last night.
As for why I’m making this, it’s because I wanted to. That and the baby has wanted some really weird stuff lately.” Yami replied,
looking at the elderly butler.
“Ah, yes.
For a moment I thought Master Mokuba was doing a science experiment with odd
foods again. Very well, I shall let you continue then.” Jeeves smiled before
walking out of the kitchen.
“Thank you
Jeeves.” Yami replied, smiling again before watching Jeeves head out. He then
went back to finishing up his lunch. Sour cream, olives, pineapple and of
course mozzarella cheese was all on the pizza, complete with pepperoni as well.
A few hours later
Seto came
home after a relatively long work day, expecting to see Yami lying on the couch
or in the kitchen. But he then heard some noises coming from upstairs and
frowned. He walked up the stairs after hanging up his jacket.
“You
alright, love?” Seto asked, putting his hand on the door. The frown on his face
remained as he spoke.
“I’ve been
better. But I’ll live.” Yami replied before putting his arms on the rim of the
toilet bowl. He didn’t even hear Seto open the door. He heard the shower run,
knowing this as Seto’s way of soothing Yami’s stomach. It usually worked. Steam
slowly filled the room as Seto filled a cup of warm water and handed it to
Yami, who took a sip before spitting it out along with a bit more of the pizza.
Seto had to look away, knowing his surprisingly weak constitution was not at its
best right now.
“Sorry,
love…” Seto only smiled and held Yami’s hand as he drank the water, making sure
it didn’t drop and spill over his own sweatpants.
“It’s
alright. I just need to lie for a little bit. It’s not your fault at all.” Yami
smiled weakly after finishing up the water slowly. He didn’t want to drink too
fast in case he’d lose whatever was left in his stomach.
“At least
let me help you up. I’m still sorry I wasn’t here earlier…” Seto spoke softly,
helping Yami up to his feet before helping him out of the bathroom. Maybe rest
was the best thing right now after all.
Yami
nodded, letting Seto lead him to their bedroom. His crimson eyes were hazy at
best, clouded over with a look of nausea and tiredness. But he knew this would
soon pass, and he could actually spend time away from the bathroom for once.
“It will
pass soon, love. Oh, and don’t worry. I’m not upset at all. He’ll move again.
Who knows, he might kick you in your sleep.” Yami spoke, smiling weakly as he
lay down on the bed.
“Or you
again and you’ll end up in the bathroom all night. Let’s just rest alright?”
Seto smiled as he lay down next to Yami, putting his arms around his waist for
a moment. He then smiled as he finally
felt a kick under his hand. About time
little one… but I’m glad I was able to feel you now.
Now chapter 3 is finally done. Now as I promised, the birth
date. Yukio will be born May 16th, the same as Kamilah. So he shares
his birthday with his sister, in a sense. Anywho, I’m taking suggestions for
chapter 4. As for time frame, it’s about… December now I think. So anything you
have, I’m willing to hear it. And I’ll give you all credit.
