Hey guys. Things have gotten crazy with assignments this semester so fanfiction is a great stress relief technique. I also wanted to let you know for those without an account on here, Nowhere is on my FF.net account but I have decided that all new chapters appear on AFF.net in a day or two in advance. I apologize if this is an inconvience for some of you, but those are the rules. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1028554/Saffire_Blade
Also I would like to take some time out to reply to some reviews since I didn't when making the prologue Tenshi no Nanimo : Thank you, I adore any story with Ryou as well. He's just so loveable. Yes the entire mystery of the story is who Ryou will evntually fall for (assuming he does), but I'll keep your suggestion in mind, cause I love Yami and Kaiba too <3 And yes I have an account on FF.net (as shown above) and the story is now on that account. ENJOY Chapstick: First of I admire how perverse your comment was ;p Seocondly, I agree! I'm tempted to skip striahgt to the good parts, but I wouldn't dare leave you all in the dust wondering what happened in-between ^^ Also, I know the feeling, my own work has tired me out. Curse you assignments!!! Ryo_Hellsing: Awesome name ^^ No worries, Nowhere will be updated as soon as possible. Not as often as I would prefer, but thank you for being patient none the less Entraxace: Why thank you very much. That's exactly my desired reaction. Complete shock and horror. I really hope I can keep it up through the story, cause I'd hate for everyone to get bored in a horror genre of all things. Now with that out of the way, on with the gore!!!! Chapter 2 - Denailling The last thing Yugi remembered before he fell asleep in his bed that night was him and brother and deciding to get an early night sleep for their first day exploring the capital of Egypt, Cairo. Yugi had visualised their holiday over the last few months since Yami first brought it up. He had imagined all of them doing all the clichés things one did in Egypt. They would first visit the great Pyramids and take many pictures of them standing in their summer clothes, posing together to impress the friends and family back home, only to realise too late how ridiculous they looked. They had to see the Sphinx as well and make a never dying joke of how the large structure lost its nose many millennia ago. They would then visit the small villages in the area, meeting friendly people that would welcomed them to try their food and purchase souvenirs. Of course they would be cheated out of their money but the residents would just be that pleasant one had no choice but to forgive them. They would take a hike and see all the wondrous sights of the desert, take their jeep and go for a long drive with the air conditioning up to max, still taking photos of everything that moved. They could then sign up to go scuba diving and maybe ride on a camel. They’d soak in the entire culture and mysterious history the country had to offer. Then at the end of each day they would relax at the hotel, lying by the pool enjoying a nice cold drink by the bar and talk all night until they finally went to bed for their next adventure. That was the dream holiday Yugi wanted for all of them. So why wasn’t he soaking up the morning sun rays in his cosy bed? It was cold and damp; there was no source of light wherever it was Yugi wad currently lying. The small teen moaned in pain as his shoulders ached from how he had been sleeping, and he rolled over to ease the pain only for the sounds of clanking metal to bounce off the cold walls, followed by the tugging of heavy metal around his wrists. He then heard a familiar scream. Yugi’s eyes snapped open and he jerked upright in his bed. Only he wasn’t in his bed, he wasn’t even at the hotel. Tied up by his wrist and neck where his leather strap once sat, Yugi found himself chained to a large stone wall. All around him were stone blocks and four torches in each of the corners of the cell he was currently being held prisoner in. All around him were his friends scattered across the floor, still unconscious and much like himself, chained to one of the three walls. Yugi’s eyes quickly scanned over each one, checking every detail of their forms, as much as the dim flames would allow. They were all still, each one coated in blood in one place or another. Many looked like they had been beaten to death; others burnt, and even cut in places. Their clothes were tattered, coated in sand, al damaged beyond compare. Still they were all together, that is except one. All accepted one, Yugi’s own brother, Yami. Another scream and this time Yugi recognised the voice instantly. As if he suddenly materialised out of the darkness, their laid Yami, face up on a stone slab in the centre of the room, so close but Yugi could not reached him even if he could get to his feet. Yami was chained much like the rest of them, only he was forced down on the stone tablet, spread eagle with little to no movement. Unlike the others, Yami was wide awaken and struggling against his bonds like a madman trying to escape a strait jacket. Yami tugged, screamed and cursed but it was all in vain. He had yet to notice Yugi was awake, or that he was even there at all. It was then Yugi heard the silent splash of liquid hitting the hard ground he laid on. Tilting his head downwards, Yugi saw it in the distance, blood. Not dry or caked like the unconscious bodies of his friends, but soft, fresh, ruby red blood. And it was coming from Yami. Yugi’s eyes dilated by what he saw, two long nails were embedded into Yami’s palm. Both were equally crooked and rusted, now coated with the fresh colour of his older brother’s blood. Yami was clearly in pain, screaming in agony as he clenched and unclenched his fist. Yugi felt like he was going to be sick but despite his brain telling him to do something, Yugi still had yet to call out or make his presence known. He licked his dried and blistered lips and prepared to shout out to his older brother when his body grew cold at the childish giggle in the distance. The laughter seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once, and despite how Yugi frantically looked left and right, he could not see anyone else in the small chamber with them, nor could he even make out where the source of the laugh had come from. Yami however, seemed to know exactly where the cackle originated from and glared into the darkness of the cellar. Yugi felt tears prick his eyes as a cloaked man broke through the darkness and staggered into the light. His laughter never faltered in step, only growing louder with each one, from a childish giggle to a maniacal chuckle. The man was surrounding in a purple shadow, almost like a fog, his hair was wild and blonde, the same as the white sand. The rest of his face was hidden by how low his head was hanging, yet he seemed to dance from side to side as he reached out for Yami. Yugi wanted to scream, he truly did but a small part of him ordered to remain quiet if he valued his life. The man’s arms seemed to materialise into existence as they broke through the soft material of the cloak and in one was a simple wooden hammer, the other was a shaking hand holding several long, twisted nails. He circled Yami’s struggling frame, not touching or taunted, just circling with his head still low. Yugi for a fleeting second thought he saw those psychotic eyes make eye contact with his own, but if they had, he was quickly forgotten in favour of the elder Motou. The man finished circling; standing next to Yami’s side and facing directly at Yugi’s quivering form. The younger Motou shook under the man’s superior form and wanted desperately to turn his eyes away and cry into his hands, but he was frozen still, paralysed with fear by what was yet to come. The man suddenly dropped the nails that were once held so tightly in his palm and each one of them hit the stone slate Yami laid on. Each one littered the surface and Yugi felt each one as if they were being stabbed into his own heart. Yami seemed to have the same reaction as he grew rigid, but unlike his little brother, Yami remained strong and glared at their captor with pure hate that Yugi was sure Yami he would kill the man if the opportunity presented itself. Still, Yami’s fear shined through and his injured fist quaked under the pressure. The man was now only holding one nail and lifting his arm like an artist with a paint brush and then brought it down with one elegant stroke. The nail drove into Yami’s opposite palm and the elder teen screamed. The scream was quieter than the previous but still as effective. Yami held his tongue and glared back at the madman with his teeth clenched. The man almost seemed to smile in admiration before he brought the hammer down in one swift swing and hit the nail square on. If drove past Yami’s flesh and out the other side where it hit the rock and dug in tightly. Yugi flinched and held back a scream as if he was the one receiving the pain. His eyes immediately shifted the still forms of each of his friends, his mind screaming for them to wake up and do something, but they remained unconscious. Kaiba and Jou were slumped against one another on his far left, unmoving and equally covered in the same amount of blood, beaten and still. Honda, in contrast was on the far right, unconscious on the floor and laid out awkwardly as if his bones had been broken in several places. His eyes were wide open but unmoving. Yugi felt like throwing up at the sight but he quickly skimmed over it to his last friend, Ryou. The only one that was without his clothes and for the most part untouched and the only one not drenched in red. Ryou’s skin was bare and there was not a single scar, bruise and scratch on his body. Yet, his tense positioned suggested someone has hurt him mentally, down to his very core. Yugi wasn’t even sure if Ryou was unconscious or just in a state of shock. Yugi was brought back by another blow of the hammer and his head snapped back to his brother’s torture. Yami’s back arched and this time he screamed the sound bouncing off each of the walls. His brother collapsed on the stone as if recovering from a punch in the gut, reclaiming his breath as he squirmed under the bonds of the rope. Yami continued cursing but this time it was in another language Yugi was not familiar, still Yami swore loudly as tears weld up in his eyes. Yugi felt his body quake in rage, as shown by the clanking of the metal chains. The stranger pulled back his arm again and this time he aimed for somewhere else, the soft flesh between Yami’s collarbones. The older male cried out once more and tried desperately to force his upper half up but the nail was buried too deeply for Yami to do anything about it. Blood continued gushing out of the wound as the older Mutou thrashed. The torturer took little noticed and drove another nail into the other side, mirroring where the other had previously been struck. Despite all this happening in a matter of seconds, Yugi saw it all in slow motion, every detail swing of the hammer, the screamed and movements of Yami’s body, even the glimpses of the madman’s smiles. Tears welled up in Yugi’s eyes and he could no longer hold them back as they flowed down his face and chin. They cleared to dirt and sand that covered his face, if only smearing it, but Yugi could still not find his voice to call out or rise to his feet and thrash against the bonds, anything to make his presence known and distract the man long enough to relief Yami of the pain. But no, the torture continued and Yugi screamed over and over in his head, unable to look away as the lunatic nailed Yami to the stone slate, his arms, the sides of his stomach, highs, legs and feet. The stranger even aimed for places he didn’t seek the need to, like the blood smeared fingers that twitched lifelessly at Yami’s side. Yami’s screams never once faltered or grew exhausted, each scream was more pure then the last, as if a new born was screaming for the first time. By this point there was no relief between blows, the man grew faster with each swing, until he was no longer predicting his movements and just gave himself into the rhythm, hitting the nails at random wherever his hands thought was best. Each wound was equally scattered across Yami’s body, pierced flesh that oozed with the fresh scent of copper. The colour smeared his jacket and pants, until it hit the surface of the rock and pooled around Yami’s body, mixing in with his skin and hair. For what seemed like a lifetime, the torture came to a gripping halt as the piercing of flesh was replaced by the scraping of nails over the blood covered stone. The madman dug across the slate rapidly for another nail, but his hand never once came into contact with the familiar feel of steel. He finally looked down and shook at the realisation that each of his nails had been used up. The man seemed to have trouble comprehended this fact, his hand still scratching across the slate with a mind of its own. Tears of relief flowed down Yugi’s face as his older brother’s tortured finally came to an end. Please stop, no more. Just, no more. Yami, please don’t die. Yami’s eyes remained wide open, staring up at the ceiling with an indifferent expression as his body twitched in shock. Yami’s breath came in wheezy gasps as he choked for more air, unable to even squirm now. His fingers twitched on their own accord, even the one’s nailed down, causing more blood to flow free. His legs in turn kicked with each breath, his wrist ankle jerking every so often, unlike the opposite which had also been nailed in place. The elder’s head shifted on its own accord and Yugi held his breath as the face turned and stared right back at him. Yugi froze at the empty stare and waited for Yami to glare at Yugi in hate and disgust or silently cry and doing nothing, but the stare led no emotion. Yami didn’t even seem to see Yugi, it was just so he didn’t have to look at his captor anymore. Yugi choked as he cried harder and tried desperately to say Yami’s name but his voice was no longer his own and no words escaped. Instead he silently begged for the others to wake up and help as he sat their pitifully. The scratching stopped. Both boys grew still as the madman stopped moving for the first time and just stared down at the empty space where nails should have been, but none remained. He gazed down at the exact same spot as if one would magically appear, but nothing changed except the dying flow of Yami’s blood that splattered on the floor surrounding the rectangle slate. It seemed the man had given up on his fun and Yugi released a grateful breath, only for the man’s sick laughter to return as he lifted his slick, wet hand and grasped onto a crooked nail embedded into Yami’s inner high. Yugi’s brother arched his back in pain and cried out desperately as the think metal was twisted and tugged through his flesh. The nail refused to budge from how far it had dug into the stone, but that little to stop the madman’s efforts. Time seemed to slow down as the flesh was torn and the nail finally jerked free. Yami didn’t have time to breath in relief, because as soon as the oxygen returned to him the madman slammed the nail down into his very heart. “YAMI!” Yugi finally spoke but he was all but forgotten. Yami twisted and bucked helplessly as the blood flowed once more, this time gushing out in gallons as his still beating heart continued pumping. The psychopath didn’t wait to relish in the fountain of blood, instead he raised his hammer and didn’t hesitate in bringing it down. The nail fell even with Yami’s chest and the older sibling jerked one more time before falling flat on the table, coughing, choking, and twitching. His head fell back against the table and remained still. “YAMI!” *~*~*~*~*~*~* Yugi screamed as he jumped up in bed, tangled underneath the covers, clawing desperately at the sheets to get away. He thrashed and turned but couldn’t escape its hold, jumping frantically till he fell off the mattress and onto the cold wooden floor. In one swift tug the blanket around Yugi was torn off and in its place a pair of arms kept him pinned to the ground. “LET GO OF ME!” He boy screamed as he clawed at the attacker, who only tightened their grip. “Yugi! Iit’s OK!” Yugi immediately fell still. Eyes opened wide, Yugi saw not a bronze man with wild sandy hair and eyes of the devil, but soft milky skin, long locks of white and large, worried eyes that stared down at him in fear. “It’s Ok, Yugi you’re awake now, you can stop now.” Ryou cooed softly, losing the grip he held over Yugi and stroked the boy’s tangle hair. “It was just a dream.” Yugi’s eyes filled with tears, he launched himself into Ryou’s chest and wept in his arms. “Shh, it’s alright, you’re safe, it was just a nightmare. I’m here.” Ryou whispered softly, holding Yugi tightly as he comforted the hysteric boy. The boy’s once perfect spiky hair now fell down to his shoulders, damp with sweat and tangled beyond help. Yugi’s large eyes seemed to bulge out more than Ryou could have guessed possible and his once go lucky smile had all but disappeared. “I had that dream again, the man with the cloak. Only this time it was different, he had Yami tied to a table and he had these nails and he was, was….” Ryou held Yugi tighter and rubbed his back reassuringly as he patted the boy’s ruffled hair. “Don’t think about. He’s just a dream, nothing more. Just a dream, Yami’s fine, he’s fast asleep in his room, save. So is everyone else, we’re all safe Yugi.” They sat like that for over half an hour with Yugi settled in Ryou’s lap, just holding each other. Yugi’s tears eventually died out and were replaced by mere sniffles. Ryou meanwhile never let go of Yugi as he continued comforting the boy, his whispers overpowering Yugi’s cries. Yugi then quietened down all together and his arms fell limp by Ryou’s sides, but he still held onto tightly to Ryou’s t-shirt, knuckles turned white as if the other boy would be taken away from him if he let go, taken back to the cell with the others. Ryou too fell silent as Yugi calmed down, the only sound left in the room was that of an occasional sniffle or hiccup from Yugi. The boy had yet to say anything and Ryou feared it was too soon to break the silence, so he continuing holding his best friend, rocking him like a mother would do for her child. Yugi smiled at the gesture and dropped his head onto Ryou’s shoulder, reliving old memories with his mother back home. How desperately Yugi wished their holiday was over so they could go home. Home, where it was safe. “What time is it?” Yugi mumbled, too tired to lift his head. Ryou angled himself so he could read his watch over Yugi’s shoulder and sighed at the time. It was still early but close to morning. “Early enough for you to have a shower and get ready for breakfast.” Ryou smiled happily as he stood up “I’m not hungry.” Yugi whined, gripping tightly onto Ryou’s t-shirt, so the boy wouldn’t leave him alone. Ryou smiled regardless and patted Yugi on the head. “Now you’re hurting my feelings. Do you like Jonouchi’s cooking over mine?” He pouted. Yugi smiled brightly and jumped to his feet, still cuddling into Ryou’s chest. “It is hard to compare, you’re both good cooks.” Yugi smiled happily, already returning to his positive self. “Can’t argue with that.” Ryou smiled back. “I’ll get you a drink of water; you just sit down until you’re readying to get up. I’ll even get the hot water for the shower running.” “Domo, Ryou.” Yugi nodded as Ryou detached himself and walked into the kitchen/living area. Only once Ryou left the room did Yugi finally sit back down on his bed, not bothered to pick the blanket back up. It was only when he saw another duvet on the floor did he realise Ryou must have shot out of bed the moment he heard Yugi’s shouting. Come to think of it, neither of them had been able to get a good night sleep lately. “Why can’t I fall asleep? Every time I close my eyes I see his face and I don’t even know who he is.” Yugi groaned as he clutched his aching head. “I can’t wait to go home.” Ryou returned instantly with the glass of water and Yugi chugged it down in one gulp. Naturally, Ryou offered to get him another, but Yugi decided to get it himself. Yet, no matter how many glasses he had, his throat was still dry from his screaming, not to mention his hands were still shaking in shock. Yugi had never had such a realistic dream before and it terrified him beyond reason. Ryou stayed true to his word about getting the shower ready for Yugi, already placing the towels on the side and heating up the water. Yugi wished he could say he had a peaceful time but the truth was he just stood there under the scalding water, still feeling the sand and grime under his fingers from the dream. He finally washed up and was greeted by the delicious smell of Ryou cooking breakfast. Naturally, having a custom breakfast in Japan was out of the question, so the foreigners had to do their best to adjust between the local cuisine and western prepared meals. Luckily, the kids were quick to get over the culture shock and actually enjoyed the experience of tasting different foods. After breakfast, Ryou jumped into the shower and got himself cleaned up in a matter of minutes, if only that was the case for his hair. Without a hairdryer, Ryou was reduced to drying his hair the old fashion way with a towel, so he took his time. Not that Yugi had place to talk with his multi-coloured hair and getting it back into tis trademark spiked formation, at least Ryou didn’t pack hair care products. The two enjoyed the sunrise for a bit and did their best to avoid the subject of Yugi’s nightmares, after all they were just bad dreams, nothing more nothing less, so there was nothing to discuss. Eventually the boys finally decided to take a walk. As they left their room and locked up, the room next door to theirs opened and out came Honda and Jou, both equally awake and refreshed for the new day. “Morning guys!” Jou smiled happily as he greeted the new day with his equally shining blonde hair and bronzed skin. “Morning.” Yugi and Ryou replied in chorus, Ryou bowing in tow. “I see the tan is finally settling in.” Yugi smiled in jealousy, unlike his sunbathing counterpart, Yugi had only been blessed with sunburn on his pale shoulders and face. “I know, just wait until he girls back at Domino get aloud of this flawless body.” Jou grinned happily, already imagining the amount of girls that would fawn over him. “While it may not be my place to judge, you may want to think about adding some muscle to compliment your girlish tan.” Honda snickered, bursting Jou’s bubble. “Muscle! You wanna try me and see for yourself!” Jou growled, thrusting up his arm in an offensive gesture they had all seen before that helped show off the size of his muscles. “Oh really, cause you look on the small side to me.” Honda grinned, flexing his own arms to outmatch Jou’s stance. Yugi and Ryou meanwhile stood to the side, defiantly not in a position to talk, considering their own petite frames, but at the same time they did wish to stop a potential row in a public place. “Guys, have you seen my brother anywhere>” Yugi interrupted as Jou and Honda’s shoved one another. “Probably the same place he always is, downstairs with Kaiba at the café waiting for us.” Honda replied, already forgetting Jou and their game. “Yeah, you think those two never sleep or something.” Jou whined, knowing full well they were always the first to get up. “Actually, Yami told me Kaiba’s been doing work the entire time he’s in his room.” Honda answered. “What! That guy has the nerve to invite himself on holiday with us and he’s spending it on homework. No wonder I don’t like that guy, he’s never lived.” Jou whined, thrusting his hands up to the heavens for guidance. “Jonouchi, Kaiba didn’t invite himself, he’s Yami friend.” Ryou responded, but his voice was too low for Jou to hear. “Come on, we better find Yami before Kaiba drains the remaining life out of him.” Jou joked and they all took off in tow. Yugi ran ahead to catch the lift and the moment their friend was out of hearing range, both Jou and Honda’s expressions hardened and they turned their attention towards Ryou who had now hung his head. “It happened again didn’t it?” Jou asked, but it was clear he knew the answer. “Yes, but Yugi was sleeping peaceful the rest of the night before then, he’s making progress.” Ryou mumbled, but didn’t sound sure of himself. “What was it this time?” Honda whispered quietly. “Atemu. Yugi didn’t give me the details, but it must have been painful for Yugi.” Ryou shivered, his imagination already going wild by a single word such as nails. “Same guy? Blonde hair and creepy purple eyes.” Jou growled as if the man was a real person to be punished for hurting his friend Ryou nodded and shivered as he tried to imagine what the cloaked man looked like, he had different images each time but all came to the same conclusion, the man was not someone you’d want to cross in the dark alley. “Yugi says he never met the man, but this has happened too many times to just shrug off. Do you think Yugi is hiding something?” Ryou asked, giving Honda a worried glance. “You may be roommates, but we’ve known Yugi longer then you, Ryou. Believe me if there was someone like that in Yugi’s past we would have made him sorry for ever crossing Yugi’s path.” “Still, should we tell Atemu? The three of us already know after all.” Ryou whispered as they approached the elevator. “This is Yugi’s problem; he’ll tell Yami when he’s ready in the meantime there’s no sense in ruing everyone’s vacation. The weeks almost over, I’m sure everything will go back to normal the moment we’re back in Japan. It’s probably just culture shock” “Can’t wait, these western themed hotels are anything but embracing.” Honda mumbled under his breath, as hotels served the sole purpose of making the customer feel at home, not to remind them they’re in an alien culture. Everyone grew quiet as they reached the lifts, Yugi had already pressed the button and the doors opened to greet them. The atmosphere immediately grew more cheerful as they all played naïve and began retelling old stories of their most recent adventure yesterday and how they planned on making today even more memorable. Meanwhile downstairs in the lounge area, sat Yami and Seto on one of the sofas with a coffee table. They were quietly drinking tea together as they discussed today’s activity. The table was covered in maps, leaflets given to them by the hotel and various images of land marks laid out. The two had elected themselves team leaders while out of the country and made it their responsibility to try and get as much done with only a week to enjoy themselves and make sure everyone was save. “We’ve been to most of the sights and events the place has had to offer.” Yami mused quietly as he flicked through the images of his digital camera, smiling as the various images of their friends on a small boat on the river Nile. “You’re point? We still have three days to get as much done as possible and still have time to enjoy one last peaceful day at the hotel before getting back on the plane first thing in the morning. Remind me again why I agreed to host this ridiculous tour guide event with you?!” Kaiba growled as he typed, more intrusted in his laptop. “Because you don’t like it when I’m in charge?” Yami answered smugly. “Besides, no one asked you to help, you could have stayed in the room the entire trip with your laptop if you wanted.” “Yami! Kaiba!” The two were greeted when they saw four familiar faces run towards them. “It would have been more peaceful.” Kaiba snorted, ignoring the four. Yugi practically launched himself over the coffee table and onto the sofa where he greeted Yami with a morning hug. The elder Mutou in turn laughed happily, saving his cup of tea at the last second before it spilt over the camera. “Kaiba, we’re in one of the most wonderful countries in the world! Would it kill ya to put down your laptop and enjoy it!” Jou complained as he seated himself on the opposite couch, Ryou and Honda sitting on either side of him. “I can appreciate the sights in an acceptable amount while still doing something more productive.” Kaiba replied, taking a break to sip his tea before getting back to work. “The whole point of a holiday is to leave all the weight on your shoulders and embrace some freedom.” “Really, because it feels like the weight on my shoulders just keeps adding.” Kaiba shot Jou a quick glare before averting his eyes back to the screen. “What’s that supposed to mean?!” Jou growled, practically half way out of his seat before Honda shoved him back down. “Quiet man, you’re ruining the day.” “I’m ruining it?!” Not wanting to get hit in the crossfire, Ryou climbed off the sofa before he could get slugged by Jou’s elbow. “I’m gonna get us some drinks. Atemu, Kaiba, would either of you like a refill?” Ryou asked politely as if he were waiter at a café. “That’s Ok, Ryou we’re fine.” Yami answered for both himself and Kaiba. “I’ll have whatever juice they’re serving.” Yugi smiled back “Some coffee would be nice right now.” Jou yawned as he checked his watch to see how early it was. “What about you, Honda?” Ryou smiled brightly, Honda couldn’t help but smile back. “Why don’t I give you a hand, four drinks is hard to carry yourself.” Honda offered as he got up, accidently hitting Jou over the head after the blonde mumbled something to him that Ryou didn’t hear. “You don’t have to do that, I can manage.” Ryou excused him politely. “No, I’m sure, besides my legs are still stiff after our walk yesterday.” Honda chuckled and Ryou joined him as they walked off together. Jou watched them leave and sent a wink in Yugi’s and Yami’s direction who both smiled back in tow. “Are you still trying to hook them up, mutt?” Kaiba spoke up, finally closing his laptop. “What business is it of yours?” Jou growled, threateningly like the animal Kaiba best described him as. “Calm down, Jou.” Yugi piped up, now placed with the role of keeping his best friend from starting a fight with Honda gone. “It’s nice of you to help Honda out, just don’t try to rush things, we still don’t know how Ryou feels about him.” “Well, I’m sure Ryou can do better, but Honda needs some serious help in his love life. Besides with good old Jonouchi pulling the strings, Ryou can’t help but fall my charm.” “Remind me again who Ryou is supposed to be falling for, the idiot or the idiot giving advice to the idiot?” Kaiba chuckled loudly, as he causally crossed his legs. “You wanna repeat that rich-boy?” Jou hissed, raising a fist. “Guys, stop! You promised not to fight for just this one week.” Yugi whined in distress. “Let them, Yugi.” Yami intervened. “Fighting is really just their way of showing they care for each other.” He smiled mischievously. “What are you implying?” Kaiba growled, transferring all his rage to Yami, much to Yugi’s discomfort. “Well, if you weren’t friends then it wouldn’t matter what the other one said.” Yami smirked like a chess champion that just announced check. Both teens froze in shock giving the either one more heated glare before sitting back into their seats, avoiding eye contact. Yami smirked triumphantly and passed Yugi a wink, who giggled in response. “Yami, do you have the pictures from yesterday?” Yugi asked, reaching for the camera still in Yami’s hand. “Yes, I was just going through them myself. Jou do you wanna take a look?” “Hell yeah, I wanna see the shot of when Yugi’ got dunked into the pool by those kids.” Jou laughed, trying to snatch the camera from his shorter friend who ducked at the last second. “Personally I didn’t see what was so funny; they were tall for their age and practically assaulted me.” Yugi pouted at the memory of being outnumbered by a bunch of immature ten year who wanted to show the rest of the kids who owned the pool. “Oh, come on Yug’, you know it was all in good fun.” Jou teased in response. “Oh is that so? Because if I remember correctly, this memory card has the photos from the last two days, including the incident with the camel.” Yugi smirked evilly, matching his older brother’s. “Yugi, don’t even think about it!” Jou warned him, reaching out for the camera again, but for a second time Yugi dodge it and leapt off the sofa, climbing over Kaiba’s lap as he escape. “Get back here!” Yugi laughed happily as he zigzagged past the tables and chairs as Jou followed in hot pursuit, threatening to tickle him into submission even he didn’t relinquish the camera. Yami laughed to himself, ignoring all the strange looks they received from the small number of families enjoying a peaceful morning with a magazine and hot drink. “I repeat; are you still trying to hook them up?” Kaiba snorted, pretending the two teens didn’t exist. “Because, last time I checked you spent all of last semester trying to get your little brother together with Ryou. What changed your mind?” “As usual you see right through me, Seto.” Yami smiled playfully. “Yes, once we left for university I did worry about Yugi throughout the year and how he was getting on with only Grandpa to look after him. Once Yugi graduated and got accepted into Domino, you would think my worries would have lifted but they didn’t, if anything I think I became more protective of him.” Yami reached for his half empty cup and finished the still warm liquid, taking a quick glance at Yugi who was now trapped in a headlock by Jou. Both were smiling like children and it eased Yami’s heart to see them getting along so well. “I started worrying about the people Yugi hung out with and how he was maturing. He obviously figured out the type of person he was after he stopped obsessing over his friend, Anzu. It was only natural I would be protective of him the day he finally found a boyfriend. I guess you could say I panicked. Yugi can be naïve at times and meek, so I feared the type of person that would take advantage of him. That’s when he introduced me to Ryou.” Kaiba remembered that memory, after all he was there. He had just finished one of his lectures and planned on spending the rest of his study period in the library when Yugi came running up to him like an old friend. Seto had met Yugi several times when he became Yami’s rival and future friend, not that he would have ever admitted it. Yugi was always kind to him and wanted to be his friend as well, so after two years apart, Seto was shocked to find Yugi at the same university. Yugi introduced Kaiba to Ryou and it was a surprise to say the least. For a split second he confused Ryou for someone else, someone he knew years ago, but he was quickly proven wrong the moment he saw Ryou’s brown eyes. Kaiba was uneasy around Ryou from that day on and the first year probably sensed it too and took it as a sign Kaiba did not appreciate his company. It was a half true, Kaiba didn’t have time for friends or their younger brother’s friend, so no, he did not appreciate either boy’s company that day. They eventually ran into Yami, who immediately took a shining to Ryou, practically adopting the whitenette as a second brother. They spent a lot of time together after that and even Kaiba had to admit he had fun when they were together. “Ryou was polite if not a tad bit shy and I had never known Yugi to pursue a friend the way he did, after all you remember how anti-social Yugi was back in School. They seemed almost inseparable and I felt at ease if Yugi found someone like Ryou, someone I was positive would never hurt or take advantage of Yugi. So yes, I tried my hardest to set them up last year and as you can guess, I failed miserably.” “So what changed?” Kaiba inquired, practically envisioning last year and how Yugi single handily changed everything for them, evening softening Seto Kaiba into agreeing to go on holiday in the first place. “I finally accepted Ryou wasn’t the one Yugi cherished most.” Yami whispered, stroking his now empty mug. “It was always Jou.” “Anyone call for a drink?” Honda smiled as he and Ryou came back with their hands each holding a drink. “What are Yugi and Jonouchi up to?” Ryou asked politely, giggling at the sight of his friends laughing about something as they flicked through the pictures on the camera. “Nothing much, Yugi just threatened to show Jou the picture with the camels.” Yami smirked mischievously. “You mean when that camel nearly took out chunk of Jou’s hair? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him panic so much in his entire life.” Honda laughed, resting the drinks down on the provided coasters on the table. “Are you sure you two didn’t want another drink? I can go back if you want.” Ryou offered. “We’re fine.” Kaiba shot back, telling the younger teen to drop the subject. “Don’t snap at him, he was just asking.” Honda hissed back protectively, but a switch glare from Yami stopped Honda from. “Don’t worry Ryou; we won’t be staying for too long anyway. We’re just deciding on where to go today.” Yami said, displaying full control over the situation while still sounding genuinely polite. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to obsess on it.” Ryou blushed, sitting down. “Where were you thinking?” “I’ll tell ya!” Jou said, suddenly appearing behind Ryou, nearly scaring the poor boy to death. “Jonouchi, please don’t do that!” Ryou gasped on shock, hands clutched over his beating heart. “Sorry Ryou.” Jou smiled apologetically as he jumped over the back and onto the sofa in-between Ryou and Honda, much to the latter’s annoyance. “But as I was saying. We got a sweet ride and we’re only using it for shopping and exploring the area. Talk about a waste.” Jou sighed disappointingly. “That’s exactly what the car was meant for. What else would we use it for?” Kaiba snorted back, already distasting Jou’s suggestion. “Oh, I don’t know use it for off road? Check out the sights ourselves without a tour guide, have a day out near the beach or Nile. We could make a day of it, have an adventure!” “Good idea, we got three days left, no point wasting them around the tourist attractions.” Honda supported the idea, patting Jou on the back. “I don’t know.” Yugi mumbled. “I was kinda hoping we could relax by the hotel, hang out by the pool and stuff.” Yami was shocked by the decline and could not remember a time when Yugi disagreed with one of Jou’s ideas. If anything, Yugi always seemed to be the one most enthusiastic about going on an adventure. It was then when Yami got a good look at Yugi, he saw the obvious bags under Yugi’s eyes and realised how exhausted the younger boy really was. “Yugi, have you been sleeping OK?” Yami inquired, lifting Yugi’s chin up to get a better look at Yugi’s tired face. “O-of course I’ve been sleeping ok!” Yugi laughed nervously, stepping back from Yami, who in turn got off the sofa and followed. “Your face is pale, have you been sick.” Yami asked, his voice harsher than before, not liking the idea of Yugi keeping secrets from him. “Stop worrying, I’ve just been too excited to go to sleep these past few days.” Yugi laughed cheerfully, but it was clear Yami was not buying it. “On second thought, Jou I think we should go out for the day as well!” “That’s the spirit!” Jou grinned happily. “Come on Yami, going out for some fresh air will do us all some good.” Jou begged, but it was clear from the seriousness in Jou’s stare, he was asking Yami to go along for the moment. Yami sighed in frustration but nodded his head regardless. “I suppose a day out won’t kill us, but we’ll need supplies before we even think about going anywhere. And Yugi, I want you sitting beside me while we’re out.” Yami ordered, giving the younger sibling that screamed we need to talk. Yugi lowered his eyes and felt guilty for keeping secrets from his brother, but knew Yami was just looking out for him. “Deal.” “Wait, Yami!” Jou proclaimed in annoyance. “If you’re sitting with Yugi then that means one of us has to sit in the front next to him.” Jou growled, pointing accusingly as Kaiba. “I don’t like this idea anymore then you do mutt, but you were the one that suggested it, so stop complaining and get over it.” Kaiba glared back. “Why you-“ Jou was quickly restrained by Honda before he had the chance to lash out. “Cool it man, Kaiba’s not worth it.” Honda glared, but kept his cool regardless. “It’s sad when the flunky is the smart one of the two.” Kaiba chuckled in retaliation, resting his chin on his palm. “Kaiba!” Both Yami and Ryou snapped, equally annoyed by the elder’s antics. “Nice try, but you can’t get under my skin that easily rich-boy.” Honda retorted, staying strong and in control. “Is that so?” Kaiba smiled in amusement as he elegantly rose from his chair, towering over the two. “Well, as the only driver I suppose it’s only fair I choose who should be in the passenger seat. And if my options are a puppy or a monkey, then I’ll just have to go for…option number three.” Ryou had no time to respond as Kaiba’s hand suddenly reached out for his and effortlessly lifted him to his feet. “Wait my drink.” Ryou stuttered, only to find himself pressed up against the taller male’s chest, staring up into his sapphire, blue eyes. “Hey!” Honda rose from his chair almost instantly, but a quick shove from the elder brunette sent him tumbling into Jou. Kaiba winked at both boys teasingly, linking his fingers with Ryou and escorting him away like a happy couple. “Come on, Ryou. You and I can buy the lunches before we set off.” Kaiba proposed, already dragging the poor boy behind him before he had a chance to object. “Get back here you kidnapper.” Jou hissed dangerously, not the sudden turn of events. “It’s ok guys, Kaiba does have the money after all.” Ryou blushed in embarrassment. “We’ll meet you in an hour at the entrance once we’re done.” He waved goodbye softly, but to Honda it might as well have been a sign of rejection. Yami watched from the side-lines and made a mental note to talk to Seto once they were alone. The tri-haired teen was able to read through Seto’s cold exterior and see his true intentions underneath, but for the first time Yami was lost as to what Seto hoped to accomplish with this stunt. Was he hoping to help Ryou come to terms with Honda’s affection or was he purposely trying to keep them apart, or worse wanting to mess with the group. Regardless, Yami was not impressed. Ok, when I first planned out the chapter, it was meant to go on until the kids were attacked by Marik but....yeah it turned out to be way too long. So yeah, there is some horror here but not what you were expecting but don't worry, I promise chapter 3 will be more exciting then this one. Also, on a side note. A new character will also be introduced next chapter. A character that gives Ryou a warning....I wonder who it will be ;pWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
