Steven and Cinetti met in the tavern again with their friends. The entire group mourned the death of Alan and was troubled to know that Ryou was more stubborn than previously believed. Jessica leaned back on her chair drinking from her martini glass.
“That kid of mine is stubborn! Why won’t he let up?” Steven gulped his drink.
“If I ever get that kid who kicked me, I will rip his head off!” Mike grunted as he shifted in his chair uneasily.
Cinetti wrapped his arm around Jessica. “Now’s your chance, little cutie. You gonna work your magic again?”
Jessica kissed his cheek. “Oh I’ll work it, baby. With me on it, he’’’ be as straight as a ruler when I’m done.”
“Just what exactly are you planning to do?” Steven asked quizzically.
“Oh, nothing you need to concern yourself with, Steven. We will handle your kid.”
“Just don’t touch him, Cinetti. I don’t need to go back to jail.”
Cinetti laughed. “Don’t worry, Steven. I won’t touch him,” Cinetti smiled as he gripped Jessica’s arm.
Steven pointed his finger at Cinetti. “I buried my wife. I don’t need to bury my son, too. I may hate the kid, but that doesn’t mean I want to find him dead on my doorstep.
“We’ll just need one night to rehabilitate him. I promise. I’ll pick him up after school and you can pick him up tomorrow morning.”
“Promise me you won’t leave any marks.”
Cinetti smiled and offered his hand to Steven. “Deal.”
Steven looked at his friend’s extended hand and gripped it tightly.
The last bell of the school day sounded through the halls. Seto and Yugi were listening in as Joey and Tristan were grumbling about their English teacher.
“We have a paper due tomorrow! First day of class and we already have a paper due!”
Yugi looked surprised as he carried his heavier- than- a -rock History book. “Really? It’s only the first day of classes! How could you get an assignment so quickly?”
“These things happen, Yug,” he said with a sigh.
“What’s your topic?” Seto asked.
“’Why it’s not nice to throw paper airplanes at people’s heads,” Joey sighed even more.
Tristan pulled out his English book from the locker. “I have one too. It’s on ‘Why I shouldn’t laugh at people who throw paper airplanes at people’s heads.’”
Joey turned to Tristan angrily. “It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t dared me, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
“Just because I dare doesn’t mean you go do it!”
The scuffle was interrupted by Ryou walking by sighing. Malik saw the bruise on Ryou’s arm and grabbed it. Ryou jumped back startled. The boy looked sad….almost upset. Bakura usually walked Ryou home, but the yami was no where to be found.
“Ryou, where is your yami?”
Ryou’s eyes filled with tears and he sobbed on Malik’s shoulder gripping him tightly. The group stopped their argument to watch Ryou sob weakly. Marik gripped his Rod tighter (I’M STILL DOING ROD JOKES, FS!) beside his shoulder.
“Bakura’s gone! My father threw the ring away and he won’t tell me where!”
Malik rubbed his back. Marik’s eyes went wide and his arm dropped to his side in complete shock as he almost dropped the Millenium Rod. Marik held his breath as he began to rub Ryou’s back. “It’s Ok, Ryou. He could not have taken it far.”
“I have to look for it.”
Marik poked the bruise making Ryou squeal quietly. “What’s that? What caused that?”
“My father grabbed me and threw me to the floor. I miss Bakura so much.”
“Ryou, are you going to go home?” Joey asked him. Joey knew all about deadbeat dads who beat their kids. He was lucky when his dad allowed him to move in with Seto.
“I have to try to make things better. We have to work this out, but I can’t believe he took Bakura away from me!” Marik leaned over and whispered something in his hikari’s ear. Malik nodded with a smile.
“Ryou, why don’t you come home with us? You can stay with us until you find Bakura.”
Ryou released Malik and backed away, his fists clenched. “I can’t. I don’t want to put you in danger. If my dad finds out where you live, he’ll call the police on you for kidnapping me or other phony charges.” Ryou pat Malik’s cheek. “I have to handle my father on my own.”
Marik watched as Ryou walked away sadly. Malik tried to reach out for him, but Marik held him back.
Ryou’s POV
I walked home slowly thinking about Bakura. I haven’t been without him for this long. Last night when he held me in his arms was the last time I saw him. Where could I look for him? The ring could be anywhere in this city! Where is my Bakura? Can’t anyone tell me?
I didn’t want my friends put in harm’s way for me. The police were still after those who killed my dad’s friend, Alan. I may not have been conscious when Malik read the letter, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t hear it. I didn’t want Malik and Marik captured because of me. They are my best friends.
Leaving the school, I walked down the street looking at the ground.
All of a sudden I felt a pair of arms grab me from behind and cover my mouth. I threw my arms around and tried to bit the hand holding my mouth. My breathing was cut off and I couldn’t breathe. Those hands were familiar….Cinetti’s son. He pulled me into a car and it drove off. He put a knife to me and told me to keep quiet. I shook nervously and was even more scared when I saw the driver of the car…Cinetti himself.
NEXT CHAPPIE: Can Ryou be rehabilitated?
LATER ON MEDIAMINER AND ADULTFANFICTION.NET, I WAS THINKING OF POSTING A MALIK X MARIK X RYOU X BAKURA
