Bakura sat in the car outside of Kaiba Corp. for a moment and made sure that he had everything he needed. It had been quite some time since he had to break into such a heavily guarded place, and he needed to prepare himself. He knew everything was in motion as Kaiba had even given him a call to say he’d be out of the office between a particular time for lunch. At first, Bakura was confused about why Kaiba would need to tell him that, but then realized that Kaiba was using him leaving as a way to keep his lover from visiting and alerting Atem. Now, all he had to do was perfectly execute the plan and free Yuugi from his prison.
He got out of the car with what he needed and looked at his watch. Kaiba always left promptly and so he knew he’d have to move the moment he saw him leave the building. Bakura moved the moment that he saw Kaiba’s shoes and slipped into the darkness. His thoughts remained on Yuugi as he quickly moved his way through the vents. Everything was going smoothly, almost too smoothly.
Stop. There is a trap up ahead. It seems recent. Yuugi told him in his mind and Bakura stopped feeling out the area.
Damn.
He should’ve known that Atem might be a bit more alert, even if no one told him anything. While he hadn’t acted any differently, he had seemed a bit lost when going out with them. He had explained that he was just lonely and most of the others accepted that response, but it seemed Atem wanted to set a trap just in case. What was he going to do? He didn’t have much time before Kaiba came back with his puppy in tow.
Move backwards and take the left. It should drop you into a closet. If I remember correctly, there is a small hidden vent there. It should be large enough and you’ll be able to slip into the lower levels easier.
Bakura quickly and quietly followed Yuugi’s advice. There was no time to question why Yuugi knew of a vent that wasn’t within the building’s schematics, or why his lover may have been slipping away to the lower levels of the building more often when they had worked together. All he knew was that he was running out of time and the ritual took a few moments to complete. When he dropped down into the dark room, he felt around and found the vent exactly where Yuugi said it would be, and slipped inside using mild shadow magic to hide his presence.
The closer he got, the more he could feel the tendrils of shadow magic dancing across his skin. It worried him that Atem was being alerted to his presence, but he had to move forward. He couldn’t bare living in the darkness like he had been doing all this time. His allies had risked a lot to help him set his lover free and he didn’t want to disappoint everyone that was trying to help him find some sense of completion. Bakura stopped when he felt what seemed to be a wall of shadow magic ahead of him. Almost there. He concentrated on pulling the magic around him so that he could slip through it without being detected. If he took too long and it may have registered something more than a potential rat trying to move through it.
Once he pushed through, he found himself in a room of Kaiba Corp that he was sure also wasn’t located in the main building schematics. There was a soft humming from the machines in the dimly lit room with what seemed to be a coffin in the center. He went over there making sure that he didn’t trip any alarms and pulled out a piece of paper. Yuugi had written all the instructions that he needed down on how to open his prison.
Bakura entered everything exactly as Yuugi had written and watched as the lid lifted and slid to the side. He reminded himself that he had an extra few minutes before they would all come rushing down here and above all else, he had to complete the ritual. Bakura placed some of the objects that he had needed to retrieve earlier on himself and on Yuugi before he began reciting the ancient text. With each word he could feel himself get a little bit weaker, but he felt Yuugi’s presence stronger than he had before and it only encouraged him to continue.
There was only a bit more, one more paragraph of ancient Egyptian text, one more push of energy that was needed from him, when the doors opened. Bakura didn’t stop. He couldn’t stop when he was so close to finally having his dream. All he needed to do was finish even as he could feel Atem’s power trying to subdue him and make him stop in his quest. This would be his only chance he felt as he gripped on to Yuugi’s prison and kept reciting the words.
“Bakura! Think about what you are doing! You can’t let that thing escape!” Atem yelled at him while using more power to try and subdue the owner of the millennium ring. “What we did was for your own protection, you will doom us all if you let him out!” The words sounded more like a growl from his lips but Bakura paid him no mind.
Bakura finished the ritual as Atem managed to get closer to him, but it was too late. It seemed as though a small blast of magic had pushed him back as Yuugi sat up and stretched. “Yuugi?” Bakura asked in a quieter voice and Yuugi smiled pulling Bakura into a kiss.
“I’ve missed you so much Bakura.” Yuugi said placing kisses on his lover’s lips. “We have a lot of time to make up, but there are some things that have to be done first.” He stood up, stretching more, as he looked over at Atem who had both anger and fear in his eyes. It looked positively amazing. Yuugi had missed that look in the eyes of his victims, but somehow it was much sweeter in the eyes of his enemy. A smile appeared on Yuugi’s face. “Long time no see, pharaoh.” Yuugi said as he reached out touching the millennium ring hanging from Bakura’s neck.
Atem was glaring at him as they heard the gasp from the others that had arrived. Yuugi sighed as he moved to stand by Bakura. “It is a pleasure to see everyone together again.” he said with sarcasm dripping from every word.
“You need to move away from him Bakura. He needs to be sealed away again.” Atem said ordering Bakura to move away from Yuugi. “You have no idea what that thing is capable of.”
A frown found its way on to Bakura’s face. “What is your problem? You take away my lover and treat your hikari as though he is an obstacle in your way. What is going on?” He hated the feeling of confusion as though everyone knew something that he did not.
Atem’s hands balled up into fists. “No! You don’t understand Bakura. That thing is not a hikari!” he told him as the air suddenly felt heavier and suffocating. Someone was exuding shadow magic in a way that felt as though it would choke the life out of everyone in the room.
For the first time since Bakura had started helping, he was confused. Yuugi looked just like the pharaoh and he knew that the pharaoh had been an enemy of his long ago. “Huh? What are you talking about?” he asked looking back and forth from Atem to Yuugi. What was it that he was missing? He had seen the memory. Yes, Yuugi had broken his promise, but it was for him. It was because of what happened to him.
Yuugi rolled his eyes as he looked at Atem. “No fun Atem. Why would you tell him that? It’s all your fault anyway” he said in a tone that was both mocking and playful.
Bakura looked even more confused. Yuugi wasn’t protesting Atem’s words at all, and it made no sense to him. Yuugi had to be the pharoah's hikari, right? “What are you two talking about?” he asked as he felt Yuugi's arms slip around him. He felt calmed and comforted by his touch.
“The fact that’s he’s right.” Yuugi said in a much softer tone than he was talking to Atem in. Bakura saw the millennium ring seemingly disappear from him and appear on Yuugi. “I hate to admit it, but he is right." Yuugi turned Bakura's face to him and looked in his eyes with a fond smile. "I’m not a hikari, Bakura. I’m your yami.”
