H is for Home
The first time Wheeler slept over at his house had been an accident. Mokuba had invited the older duelist over to help him test out some new games and Wheeler had jumped at the opportunity. The two had fallen asleep in bean bag chairs in Mokuba’s room. Seto had placed his brother in his bed and threw a blanket over the blonde male. The second time Wheeler slept over had been at his brother’s insistence. Why Wheeler had been there he couldn’t recall, but when he had gone to leave, the skies had opened up. And the rain came down in sheets. Mokuba refused to let Wheeler leave out of fear of him getting soaked and deathly ill. Not wanting to risk the safety of his security in driving through the rain, a reluctant Seto had let the mutt sleep in a guest room. The third and fourth time Wheeler slept over Seto had cursing their History teacher to Hell and back. In several languages. A huge project, due in two days, resulted in him having the blonde in his home and taking him to school with him the next day. After a while, Seto lost count of how many times he found the blonde duelist sleeping in his home. He knew that he saw the blonde there more than anywhere else. However, he found that that didn’t bother him so much anymore. He had started noticing things after the first night.Night after the first “sleepover.” His pile of papers in his office were neatly stacked and organized.Night after the second. His favorite laptop bag, which had been broken, was fixed and cleaned up.Night after the fourth. A large, balanced breakfast had been laid out on the table for him and his brother; the Chef claimed he hadn’t cooked any of it.Tonight, Seto had arrived home late from the office. With tomorrow being a Sunday, he found himself grabbing a fresh cup of coffee and the book he was reading. When he walked into the living room, it didn’t surprise him to find Wheeler curled up on the couch fast asleep. With a deep frown on his face, Wheeler was shivering with his arms curled around his middle.Acting on instinct, Seto put his coffee down on the end table and walked back out of the room. He opened a panel in a wall where he produced a warm blanket. Walking back into the living room, Seto shook out the blanket and laid it carefully over the blonde. Wheeler’s face relaxed and his trembling slowed as the warmth set into his skin. Seto didn’t realize what he was doing until his hand was already sweeping golden strands out of the duelist’s face.To his astonishment, there was a large bruise on the other male’s cheek. Seto mentally ran through his school schedule from Friday. Wheeler hadn’t had any altercations with anyone and he hadn’t had the bruise yesterday when he had spent the night. Also, he discovered upon closer inspection, that it looked as though it were swollen, too. A light press of his fingers on the skin forced a wince out of the sleeping teenager.Rolling his eyes, Seto disappeared and soon returned with an ice pack in hand. With Wheeler curled up on the couch, there was a space on the end by his head. Seto sat down with his leg resting right beside the sleeping duelist’s head. Taking a sip of his coffee with one hand, Seto brought the ice pack down with the other one to cover over the nasty bruise. Joey made a protesting whine, but didn’t wake.Putting down his coffee, Seto picked up his book and started reading where he left off. He kept an eye on the time as he iced the blonde’s bruise for twenty minutes. The blonde was shivering again because of the ice. Without looking up from his book, Seto reached over to pull the blanket further up on the boy.It was a few minutes later that he heard the blonde murmuring something. Glancing away from his reading, Seto realized his hand had been carding through the other male’s hair. Somehow, this motion didn’t seem to bother him. He wasn’t sure when Wheeler had become Joey in his mind./…A few months later…/
“How was America, Mr. Kaiba?” Roland asked.
“A nightmare of the most boring, old executives on the planet. Did Mokuba eat dinner and finish his homework?” Seto asked.Roland watched him as he hung his coat up on the rack in the corner.“Yes, sir. He went to bed only an hour ago. I just checked on him a few minutes ago,” Roland replied.“Good. Did Wheeler fall asleep on the couch again? I swear that mutt should just take a hint and camp out in one of the guest rooms,” Seto commented. He was surprised when Roland answered in the negative.“No, sir. Mr. Wheeler hasn’t been here.”Seto turned around to face his head of security. He frowned.“All night?” Nod. “Was tonight the first time?”Roland shook his head.“No, sir. He hasn’t been here since the morning you left for America.” That was an entire week. “And there’s more.”Seto crossed his arms over his chest.“Explain.”Roland explained that he had been curious about the blonde’s movements for some time. When the blonde stopped coming around, Roland thought this even odder behavior. He had used his connections to find out information on Joey Wheeler.“It seems Mr. Wheeler lives alone with his father.”Seto nodded. He already knew this.“According to police reports, Mr. Wheeler’s been abusing his son for quite some time. The day you left for America – January 25 – was young Mr. Wheeler’s birthday. He turned 18. His neighbors reported Mr. Wheeler being tossed out of his apartment by his father. He’s homeless.”Fear started to creep into his heart. Seto glanced at the door where a temperature gauge sat. It was fifty-two degrees outside and still dropping. Seto whipped his phone and hit speed dial. He brought it up to his ear and spoke as soon as he heard someone pick up.“Yugi, it’s Kaiba. Is Wheeler there? …No, no. Everything’s fine. Thanks.”He hung up and dialed Ryou next.“Ryou, Kaiba. Is Wheeler with you and Bakura? …Thanks.” Click.Seto quickly ran through all his contacts. None of the blonde’s friends had Joey with them. When he finished, he turned around and snagged his coat off the rack. Roland tapped his shoulder and handed him a PDA. Seto glanced down at it to find a map of Domino Park and a small blinking blue light.“You bugged Wheeler?” Seto asked as they left out the door.Roland pulled out his keys to the SUV and clicked the unlock button.“I microchipped his jacket a few days prior to your trip. This is the first time I’ve activated it. He appears to be just in the park there,” Roland replied. They both jumped into the SUV and Roland hit into high gear. He opened the gate in advance so he was able to tear out of there like a bat out of Hell. You better be okay, Mutt. Or so help me God, I will be gluing you to that couch, Seto thought. He ignored the small twitch in his thumb on the hand holding the locator. Roland raced across the streets carefully, thanking every god that there wasn’t much traffic on the road. He reached the side entrance to the park in only a matter of minutes. Seto immediately jumped out and followed the locator to a park bench where a small body was curled up on it.“Wheeler!”Seto knelt down at the bench and touched the blonde’s cheek. He jerked his hand away from the razor-sharp pain of ice. The blonde was trembling and when he cracked his eyes open, they weren’t in focus.“Come on, Wheeler,” Seto urged, helping him to sit up.He tried to help the other man stand, but Joey collapsed into his arms. The blonde whimpered in pain. It may have been painful, but Seto was thankful it was something rather than nothing. Without giving it a second thought, Seto swept Joey up into his arms with a hand under his knees and behind his shoulders. He carried Joey to the SUV where Roland was waiting with thick blankets and the heat turned on high.Seto climbed into the backseat, keeping a shivering Joey settled in his arms. Seto didn’t have to tell Roland where to go; he had already set a course for the Kaiba Medical Center. Seto quickly yanked Joey’s cold jacket and shirt from his equally cold body. Joey had his arms wrapped around himself as Seto wrapped a blanket around both of them. The CEO unbuttoned his shirt quickly and opened it before pulling the blonde onto his lap. The other male’s freezing skin made him wince, but he refused to pull away. He tucked the blonde’s head under his chin, wrapping his warm arms around Joey’s cold back. He had concerns that the male was still freezing on his lower body, but hopefully they would reach the center soon. Seto could hear Roland on his cell phone, calling ahead to the hospital. He ran his hands over the blonde’s back, trying desperately to warm him. The shivers were decreasing, but not fast enough, in his opinion.“Come on, Wheeler. Wake up,” Seto urged. He felt a low mumble across his chest.“ ‘m not ‘leep.”Seto’s hands flew up to cradle Joey’s head back onto his shoulder. The lids were half-open but the obviously exhausted duelist was still somewhat awake.“You have to stay awake, Wheeler. Don’t go to sleep,” Seto told him.Joey’s eyes were foggy. He didn’t seem to be focusing on anything, let alone Seto. He leaned his head further into Seto’s shoulder, nuzzling his cold nose against the heated skin. The combined heat sources in the SUV and his chilled body were making him so sleepy.“ ‘m tired, ‘aiba,” Joey mumbled into his shoulder.Seto glanced up to see where they were. Seto cursed silently. They were still at least fifteen minutes from the medical center and Joey was fading fast. Suddenly, an outrageous idea came to him. It would be a sure way to keep the blonde warm and it may just work on keeping him awake.Wheeler is going to punch my lights out for this later, Seto thought. But desperate times call for desperate measures. Joey jerked back in surprise when his head was turned and a hot pair of lips found his. That instantly brought him back from the brink of exhaustion. He felt kisses being peppered across his face as pair of hands seared a hot path across his body. His shivering began to increase, but it wasn’t from the chills.Joey let out a quiet whimper as a hot furnace of a mouth latched onto his throat. A wet tongue lapped over his pulse while one hand moved to his chest. It ran not so gently over his arms before sweeping upwards. He split his bottom lip open suppressing a groan from the jolts of warmth striking his body all over.Seto made an hmm sound against the blonde’s throat when he felt much warmer arms wrap around him. He released his mouthful to reveal what looked like sunburned skin. He kissed and licked his way up to an ear. He sucked behind the ear, warming the patch of skin there easily.“Not so tired anymore, huh, Mutt?” Seto chuckled.“ ‘s yer fault,” Joey murmured.Seto noted that his tactics must be working. The blonde’s words were clearer and louder. He pulled the blonde closer, even as he looked up and saw the hospital coming into view./……/
“Don’t you dare, Mr. Wheeler. I will tie you down to that chair if I have to,” the doctor warned him.
Joey slumped down in the wheelchair with a huff.“So I am cleared to go, doc?” Joey asked. He had been there for a few hours now. The doctor had taken good care of him, but he was more than ready to leave. Dr. Lang gave him a stern look.“That depends.”Joey frowned in confusion.“Depends on what?”“If you have a warm bed to sleep in tonight,” Dr. Lang said.Joey turned a small smirk up to him.“By sleep, you mean…”“Joseph Wheeler,” the doctor said, warningly.Joey shrugged with a chuckle.“Multiple meaning words, doc. ‘sides, I don’t think Kaiba will let me go anywhere else, seeing as he’s da one that found me.”Dr. Lang smiled.“Good. I’ll go get your discharge papers. Mr. Kaiba’s probably not too far away,” Dr. Lang commented.Joey knew Kaiba wasn’t far. He could see the man’s reflection in the window outside in the hall. The man was standing close to the door, obviously overhearing the conversation. He noticed the way the CEO smirked when Joey had said the sleep comment. He had also nodded his head when Joey had mentioned Kaiba not letting him go anywhere else. The discharge papers were quickly gathered and the doctor told Joey all of his instructions with Seto present. The doctor warned Joey to watch for certain signs, to know if or when he needed medical attention. At Joey’s reluctance, Seto pushed him in the wheelchair out to the car. Only then was the blonde allowed to stand and hop in. Seto thanked Dr. Lang before climbing in the back with Joey.Once in the car, uncaring of the driver, the two males shared a passionate kiss with Joey straddling Seto’s lap. Joey’s arms wrapped around Seto’s neck as Seto rested his hands on Joey’s hips. Kaiba had had his fun earlier; now it was Joey’s turn. Joey tapped his tongue against Seto’s lips and slipped it into the CEO’s mouth when he willingly opened his mouth. Not to be outdone by the blonde, Seto slid his hands up under Joey’s shirt. Joey released a small groan into their connection. He thrust his body closer when one hand slid down into his jeans. Joey whimpered and panted into Seto’s mouth when a hand dove into the blonde’s boxers to tease at his entrance. Joey broke the kiss with a small whine, burying his face in Seto’s neck.Seto thought he heard Roland turn the radio up, but his full focus was on the blonde in his arms. The man he thought wouldn’t wake up again if he had let him fall asleep. He vowed to tell Joey in the morning that he had a home with the Kaiba’s. Right now, he was more interested in seeing how worked up he could get the younger male before they reached the mansion. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
