“I don’t trust Senator Kaiba.”The circle of people stared at Joey as he stood in the middle with Mai. Yugi and Yami exchanged a look before looking back at him.“It is true that Senator Kaiba is not the friendliest person in the Senate and he is close to Chancellor Pegasus. But we have no reason to distrust him,” Yugi assured him.Joey shook his head. None of the Council members seemed to understand. Except for maybe Ryou and Malik who were listening attentively to him.“Forgive me, Master Yugi, but I get an uneasy feeling whenever I’m around him. And the force…it’s foggy. It’s the same feeling I had around Bakura and Marik,” Joey admitted.A ripple ran through the Council. Teá was the next to speak up.“You are still learning, Padawan. The Sith are dead. They died over a year ago by Jedi hands. Master and Apprentice are no more,” Teá told him. This was true. Bakura and Marik had been runners for the Senate. The Jedi Council had discovered their identities as Sith. The two had disappeared before later reappearing along with a droid army. Several Jedi’s had fallen to their lightsabers. It had been Ryou and Malik who had finally dealt the final blow against the two Sith. They had returned to the Jedi Temple with both their sabers and the two Sith red sabers.Mai put a hand up to stop Joey from continuing.“I have come before the Jedi Council to express my Padawan’s concerns. I’d like to propose that I and him travel to Dragoon and meet with Senator Kaiba. Let him see for himself that the Senator poses no threat to the peace in the universe,” Mai suggested.Yami made a noise in the back of his throat. He glanced around at the other members of the Jedi Council.“It is a sound idea. Let the Padawan put his worries at ease,” Ryou commented in a quiet voice.Malik nodded in agreement.“Then perhaps this discord between the two of them can dissolve. And if there is something going on with Senator Kaiba, then Master Mai can alert the Council,” Malik added.Yami nodded before looking back at the two of them.“Very well. Senator Kaiba left this morning with his younger brother. Wait until tomorrow morning to leave for Dragoon. Assure him that you are only showing Padawan Joey the different nations. If there is something, then you will alert us,” Yami commanded.Mai nodded, as did Joey.“Of course, Master Yami.”“May the Force be with you.”/……/
Joey was grunting and hissing through his teeth. His back was burning! That burn…that horrible burn…it was going to kill him!
The burn was seeping through his hooded cloak and robes. It started at the base of his spine and was moving up.“Stop! Stop, please!”
Joey’s eyes shot open and he jerked up out of sleep. He sat up straight, drenched in sweat and breathing hard. He threw the covers back and climbed out of bed. Mai, who had been sleeping peacefully in her own room, sensed her Padawan up and about. When she came out, she found the young male sitting with his head down out by a large window. The Senate sat directly out from him, in the long distance.“Joey, you should be resting. We’ll be leaving in a few hours and you’ll need to be awake for flying,” Mai cautioned him.“I am sorry, my Master. I…I cannot sleep,” Joey confessed.Mai walked over and stood with her back to the window.“What is it, my Padawan? What is it you have seen? I can see it troubles you greatly,” Mai said, urging him to speak his mind.Joey shivered. He could still feel the phantom burns running up his spine.“I…I see myself in pain. Terrible pain. I can’t defend myself. My limbs won’t move. Something is burning up my back. It…it feels like a lightsaber. It scares me,” Joey said.Mai listened quietly.“You must be careful, Joey, when sensing the future. Be mindful of your feelings. Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.[1]”Joey nodded. It was difficult for him to control his emotions, but he managed. Mai smiled as she pushed herself away from the window. She firmly grasped his arm before leading him back to his room.A few hours later, the two were heading to Dragoon in Jedi Starfighters. Joey’s R2 unit, RE-BD, beeped and clicked at him.“I know it’s only a dream, RE. But it felt so real. I just…I hope I am wrong about Kaiba,” he murmured.RE-BD beeped and blinked its red light at him. Somehow it was comforting to him that the R2 unit listened to him.The two Jedi’s were halfway to Dragoon when Joey’s Jedi Starfighter started showing a low fuel sign. They went down and docked on a nearby planet. They found a place to fuel up. While the R2 units stayed with the Jedi Starfighters, Joey and Mai walked around to stretch their legs. This was unfortunate because they were ambushed and overcome by droids and a few Droideka’s.They were taken to General Roland where they were able to break free and get their lightsabers. Joey had just sliced through a droid and swiftly turned around, only to witness the death of his Master at the hands of General Roland himself. A very upset Joey managed to destroy half the droids surrounding him before a blow to his head took him down.He later woke with a splitting head and his hands bound behind him. He was slumped over sitting in some kind of chair. Hearing voices around him, Joey chose to continue playing opossum.“Found this Jedi scum in my territory. His Master is dead. I thought I would save the pleasure of this one for you,” he heard General Roland rasp with his broken down, metal cough.“Thank you. Your gift is much appreciated.”Joey nearly gave himself away when he heard the familiar voice of Senator Kaiba. He cursed silently in his head as he listened in on the conversation.“What should I do with the Starfighters?” General Roland asked.“Destroy the Jedi Master’s. Deliver the Padawan’s Starfighter here and wipe the memory of the R2,” Senator Kaiba commanded.“What about the other Jedi’s? The logs in the Starfighters show that Dragoon was their destination,” General Roland questioned.A deep, dark chuckle escaped from the Senator.“Don’t worry about them. I’ll take care of everything.”“Of course, my Lord.”That clenched it. Joey was going to tear Kaiba apart and spread him all over the galaxy. Joey heard General Roland leave. In that time, he tried to sense out his saber. He could sense it nearby. He listened carefully to Kaiba’s footsteps. It sounded like the male was standing at a desk several feet away. Knowing this was his chance, Joey snapped his eyes open and move. He leapt up into the, caught his saber behind his back and sliced his bindings away. He landed on said with saber up, ready for a fighter. Except Kaiba wasn’t there.Moving his lightsaber around with him, Joey looked around the room carefully. There were no signs of Kaiba anywhere in the room. He carefully jumped down from the desk as he continued looking about the room while turning around in circles.“Tsk tsk. The Jedi Temple seems to be taking in any old strays nowadays.”Joey whipped around at the sound of the voice, but found nothing. He narrowed his gaze.“Come out and fight me, ya bastard!” Joey growled. That damned chuckle again had him whipping around again, only to find nothing still.“Are you really that eager to die, Wheeler?”Joey could sense it now. It was like a veil had been uncovered. It was the same power he had detected in Bakura and Marik.Senator Kaiba was a Sith.Joey’s lightsaber made its customary hum as he moved it about. He tried to pinpoint the Senator’s location, but the Sith was clearly very skilled. Joey could only sense that he was in the room.Suddenly, his lightsaber was ripped from his hand and a powerful knocked him into the desk. Joey rolled to his stomach, but then he found himself unable to move. A cold, hard hand clamped onto the back of his neck and a steady stream of air blown over his ear. He was just able to shake his head in frustration.Chuckle. “You didn’t honestly think you had a chance against me, did you, Wheeler?”Joey growled at him, but stopped when the hand squeezed hard. He could feel Kaiba lean over him, pressing him harder against the desk. His stomach turned when he felt the Sith’s lips brush his ear while he spoke.“I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised you figured it out. You are quite the persistent little one. I do wonder what I should do with you,” Kaiba murmured.“Stop toying with me. If you’re going to kill me, just kill me,” Joey growled.“Hmm. If you so wish.”Suddenly, a searing hot pain singed through his clothes and skin. It started at the base of his spine and was ever so slowly moving up. Oh gods. It was the same searing pain from his vision. Joey gritted his teeth tightly. He couldn’t stand it. The pain was too much. He shook his head with a jerk.“Stop! Stop, please!” he begged. The burning eased off his back and his body sagged down onto the desk. Seto scooped him up to sit on the desk and cradled his head on his chest. Joey shook from the pain and the relief that it had stopped. Seto ran a hand over his head like one would do to a beloved pet. He tutted his tongue at him like a child.“There’s a good little Jedi. You asked for mercy and I granted it. My power is strong, stronger than that of your precious Council. I can sense the anger within you. Anger that your Master is dead; anger that your so called friends didn’t believe you about me. I sense great power in you, Wheeler.”Joey closed his eyes as the hand continued carding through his hair. He hissed when the burns on his back sent an electrical shock through his body. A soothing hand came down to ease the pain. He found himself suddenly hauled over to a softer surface and pulled onto the other man’s lap. His cloak and robes were removed, leaving his torso bare. He felt the Sith shift him so he could look over Joey’s shoulder and down at the burn marks.“Hmm. It seems my anger got the best of me. But your burns will provide support for my next course of action,” Seto said, chuckling.Joey tried to move his head, but the brunette’s grip on his head tightened. Almost as if it were a warning. He decided, in the best interest of his survival, that he wouldn’t fight it.“I have work for you, Wheeler. It is a simple job. You throw off suspicions of me by the Jedi and I will reward you. Failure…failure isn’t an option for you.”Seto forced his head up so he was staring into the dark gaze of the very powerful man.“And if you think deception is on your side and you can slip a message to your Jedi friends, you should know that I have allies on the inside. In the Senate and Jedi Temple.”Joey was confused. Surely, the Senator hadn’t been able to insert anyone into the Jedi Temple. Seto chuckled at his confusion as he gently dragged the back of his hand down the blonde’s cheek. He swept it down to catch his chin. He turned the blonde’s head away and leaned in close to whisper in his ear.Joey stiffened in his arms with a small gasp.No. It’s not possible, Joey thought. But the Sith had been nothing but honest with him. There was no hope left. He was at the mercy of the Sith. And there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it./……/
News of the assassination attempt on Senator Kaiba and his brother Mokuba spread fast. General Roland and his droid army had descended upon Dragoon and had launched an attack on the Kaiba’s city. Jedi Master Mai and Padawan Joey had been there on visit. They had protected the Senator and his brother. General Roland had gotten away but not before killing Mai and injuring Joey.
“You have done well, Padawan. The Kaiba’s have survived the invasion of the droid army. We are sorry for the loss of your Master,” Yami said.Standing in the center alone left Joey with a heavy heart. He nodded his head in recognition.“Thank you, Master Yami.”Yugi spoke.“Senator Kaiba is concerned that the droid army will return and his brother is unsafe. He has requested your presence as a guard for his brother. This Council has decided to grant his request,” Yugi explained.Joey knew all of this. It’s why the bastard only eased the pains of his burns, not heal them. Everything was going according to Kaiba’s plan.“I am honored, Master Yugi. Thank you,” Joey said, bowing his head.“We should send someone with Joey who can check the Kaiba defenses on Dragoon. To see how the droid army was able to sneak up on the City so that we may prevent a repeat occurrence,” Noah suggested.“Two of the Council members will accompany the Padawan back to Dragoon and will report back on the defenses. Padawan, the choice is yours as to who will go with you,” Yami commanded.Shit. Joey had hoped this wouldn’t happen. That would have made Kaiba’s plan dive bomb into a black hole.“I feel that Master Ryou and Master Malik should be the ones to accompany me.”Neither Jedi Master spoke to Joey until the three were later on a transport bound for Dragoon. Joey sat at a table with an uneaten dinner in front of him. Ryou slid into the seat across from him with a concerned look on his face.“Does something trouble you, Padawan?” he asked.Joey pushed his plate away and turned his head away.“Get away from me,” he growled.Ryou frowned.“That’s not very friendly, Padawan,” Ryou said.Joey turned his head back to glare at the white-haired Jedi.“Go the Hell, Bakura. And take Marik with you.”Ryou’s frown suddenly morphed into a dark smirk. He leaned forward with a dark chuckle.“So you do know. We weren’t sure, but you picking us to come with you was a good sign. But my real question is…what does our Master have in mind for you?” Bakura asked.Joey’s glare intensified, which only served to make Bakura laugh more. He leaned back in his seat with his arms crossed over his chest. Marik/Malik came into the room, shooting Bakura a look.“What’s got you so happy?” he asked. When Bakura answered him, it was in a different language. One Joey had never heard; what sounded like a series of sounds and clicks of the tongue.[Our Padawan knows who we are.]Joey watched as Malik changed into Marik, by a mere smirk similar to Bakura’s.[He does, does he? So he has met our Lord. Why has his life been spared?]Bakura shrugged. They both had seen the burn on Joey’s back and arms. The entire Council had agreed it had been done by a lightsaber. What they didn’t know was that General Roland had only caused the superficial wounds on his arms.[Surely he would not take this whelp as an Apprentice?] Marik sneered.Bakura shook his head.[No. I do not believe that is our Lord’s intention. No. I believe he intends to use him to warm his bed.] Bakura laughed.Joey couldn’t understand a word of what they were saying. Judging by the way they kept glancing at him, he could only guess it was something about him. He jumped to his feet and stormed away, hearing the laughter behind him was making his stomach turn.Marik leaned down and caught Bakura’s mouth in his own. They shared a deep kiss before separating.[Do you really think he intends to take Wheeler into his bed? No one in the universe has managed to sate him.] Marik stated, as a matter of fact.Bakura had pulled his robes aside and was nibbling at his navel, occasionally sucking on the skin. The chuckles against his skin sent pleasurable tingles up his spine.[He fears the power of our Lord, yet still he fights. It sounds like the perfect bedmate for our Lord.] Bakura smirked.Marik pulled his head up and thrust his tongue into his lover’s mouth. When he finally pulled away, they were both gasping for breath.[Less…talk…about the prey. And more…action.]/……/
Seto knew when his apprentice was close. He stood up from his bed and pulled a robe on. He didn’t bother closing the bedroom door as he met Bakura in his living room quarters. Bakura bowed his head in respect.
“Have you completed the tasks I have given you? That was remarkably fast.” Smirk. “Even for a Jedi.”Bakura snickered.“It didn’t take me long, my Master. But I am curious about the boy. The little Padawan. What do you intend to do with him?” Bakura questioned.Seto gave him a calm look. Normally, he wouldn’t have tolerated such questioning. But it had been some time since his apprentices had been in his presence as his apprentices. Plus the blonde Jedi-in-Training raised a lot of curiosity in everyone. Seto stepped slightly to the side, revealing the open doorway to the apprentice. The laser-like gaze of the disguised Jedi zeroed in on the room within.Light from the moon outside illuminated the figure in the bed. Joey lay on his stomach with the sheet pulled dangerously low on his waist. The lightsaber burn on his back still looked as fresh as the day it had gone into his skin. Bakura smirked.“I hope the Padawan brings you great joy, my Lord,” Bakura said, bowing his head once more.Seto tilted his head with a deep, dark chuckle.“The taste of innocent skin shall keep me satisfied for quite some time,” Seto smirked.Bakura’s eyebrows shot up. His head snapped back to the image of the sleeping blonde before looking at the Sith Lord.“…innocent? As in…ooh,” Bakura let out a low whistle.Seto raised an eyebrow.“I’m surprised you didn’t know,” Seto commented.Bakura snorted.“I suspected. But with a Master like Mai…”Bakura felt himself lose his breath. Evidently, that had been the wrong thing to say. He bowed his head in apology. Seto raked a hand through the white hair and yanked his head harshly to the side. Bakura offered no protests or verbal apologies.“How close was my Jedi to his Master?” Seto growled.“She was like a mother or older sister to Wheeler. They shared quarters but never a bed,” Bakura replied.“And you’re sure of this?”Bakura nodded his head as best as he could. Seto allowed him to breathe again but didn’t release his head.“Tell me all you know about my new pet.”Bakura quickly ran through Wheeler’s history.Joey had been born on Tatooine. When he was eight, his mother had disappeared with his younger sister. His father, an abusive drunk, had worked him from sunup to sundown. Joey escaped his father’s grasp a year later at age 9. For half a year, he snuck onto transports and searched for his mother and sister on several different planets. Finally, Joey snuck aboard a transport where a Jedi found him. The Jedi had been Mai who had sensed a great power in the blonde. She had brought him to the Temple and insisted that she take him as an apprentice. The Council first had him train with the class of younger Jedi’s. He was taken on as Mai’s apprentice as age 14. Now at age 16 and 1/2, he was still a young Padawan not yet ready to become a full-fledged Jedi.
“Did he find his sister?” Seto asked.
Bakura shook his head.“Wheeler found his mother about a year ago on Naboo. His sister died years before in a storm. He doesn’t stay in contact with her. Don’t know about his bastard father. Could still be on Tatooine,” Bakura commented.Seto released his apprentice and took a step back. Bakura could already sense what the man was going to ask of him next.“With your permission, my Lord, I will take my leave for Tatooine in the morning,” Bakura said.Seto thought of ordering him to go now and he knew Bakura would do it. Except he also knew the likelihood of his two apprentices having opportunities to be together was not high.“Take your leave in the morning. For now, enjoy your evening.”With a knowing smirk, Bakura bid his Master good night and departed. Seto slipped back into his bedroom. The robe pooled at the ground and he waved his hand across the air, shutting the bedroom door from prying eyes. Joey made a small sound and turned his head when a heavy body slid up against his back. A hand came down to touch his head.“Shh. Rest your head. I’ll give you time to heal, my precious Jedi.”Joey settled back down on his pillow. He only whimpered once when Seto ran his hand gently over the saber burn. The brunette chuckled before placing a kiss on the blonde’s back and making himself comfortable. He was a patient man; he would bide his time until Joey willingly came to him./……/
A few days had passed and the Padawan had settled in well. True to his word, Seto had him accompanying his younger brother Mokuba during the day. Despite the past between Seto and Joey, Mokuba had taken a liking to Joey prior to him coming to Dragoon. Seto turned his attention to Bakura as his apprentice approached. Bakura bowed his head in respect.
“I take it you found your quarry,” Seto commented.Bakura snickered.“It was quite easy, Master. Marik is putting him in a nice room as we speak,” Bakura replied.Seto nodded his head.“You’ve done well, Bakura. This makes me very pleased.”Seto started to say more, but something stopped him. He turned his head to look down the hall. Bakura followed his gaze, frowning.“Master…?”“You feel it, too, hmm? I sense my little Padawan has gotten himself into some trouble,” Seto murmured, mostly to himself.Seto dismissed Bakura for him and Marik to take their leave back to the Republic. He allowed the Force to guide him down the halls. He found himself entering the medical wing. Mokuba was coming out at the same time, but stopped when he spotted his brother.“Big Brother, I was just coming to find you,” Mokuba said.“Where’s your Jedi Guard, Mokie?” Seto asked nicely.Mokuba turned around and led his brother inside. Joey was propped up on a bed with a breathing mask covering his nose and mouth. A doctor was hovering over the blonde, checking him over with a close eye. Mokuba turned back around to face his brother.“Joey started feeling bad, but then he coughed up blood. I brought him up here and he was having trouble breathing. The doctor says he’s been poisoned.”Seto’s head snapped up. Poison?! Could it be that the little Padawan had actually foiled an assassination attempt on him or his brother? The blonde was lying back against the pillow with weary, bright pink eyes. Seto walked over to the blonde’s empty bedside. He placed a hand to the side of Joey’s head with his thumb resting on his forehead. Joey’s eyes shifted up to the older male.“Show me what you’ve seen.”Moments of the day flashed before Seto’s eyes. Joey and Mokuba at breakfast, Joey snatching an apple out of Mokuba’s hand and Mokuba elbowing him in the ribs; Mokuba showing Joey the city; Joey biting into the apple; Joey later stumbling on unsteady feet; a woman watching as Mokuba rushed him to the medical wing.Seto released his power over Joey, allowing the blonde’s head to loll back against the pillows again. Joey probably didn’t realize that he had seen the person who had poisoned him. And now Seto knew who was responsible. The tall brunette turned his attention to the doctor.“Doctor, after you clear him, see to it that the Jedi makes it back to my rooms,” Seto ordered.“I’ll make sure he goes!” Mokuba exclaimed.Seto nodded to him before storming out. He knew exactly where to find his newfound prey. It was quick and easy to locate the little bitch. Kisara had that knowing look on her face when he swept into her small home.“Seto, how good to see you,” Kisara grinned. The dark look on his face should have tipped her off. Except Kisara was a blind, deceitful little bitch. Suddenly, her eyes grew wide and she found herself clutching at her throat, gasping for breath. Seto swept across the room to tower over her. He ran his fingers lightly over her forehead while pulling a strand of hair back.“You should know that your plan failed. The Jedi lives. And I know what you were thinking. With the Jedi dead, you think I would bring you back into my hold.”Kisara gasped as Seto’s hand slipped down to roughly grasp her chin. She could feel the power swirling in and around the tall brunette.“I should punish you for daring to think you had any power over me. However, I’m going to grant you mercy and let you live.”Seto stepped so close that Kisara could feel the heat and anger wafting over her from him.“This is your last and only warning. Leave the Jedi alone or you will become a permanent plaything for the dragons.”After issuing his promise to Kisara, Seto had returned to his rooms. He found Mokuba curled up on Joey’s lap on the couch. He stood in the doorway listening to Joey croon softly to the youth in a language unfamiliar to the Sith’s ears. The boy appeared to be asleep as he rested his head on the Jedi’s chest.Joey was so focused on Mokuba that he startled when a familiar hand slide into his hair. He shivered when a warm kiss was pressed to the side of his neck. Another hand came down to rest on his shoulder.“He…he umm didn’t wanna leave. Told him he could stay ‘til ya came back,” Joey quietly explained.Seto couldn’t blame the younger male for being nervous. He hadn’t interacted much with the older brunette when he was around his younger sibling. It was unchartered territory. Squeezing Joey’s shoulder, Seto leaned down to press his lips close to the blonde’s ear. He was pleased that the little Jedi didn’t flinch or try to move away.“It’s okay to be happy here. We want you to feel at home, Joey. I know you felt out of place…different from the others at the Temple.”Joey shivered as he closed his eyes. It was true. He had felt like an outsider, despite the others trying their best to welcome him into their fold. Here, he felt different. He opened his eyes when the hand on his shoulder moved. It shook the younger body in his arms, causing Mokuba to wake up. The younger Kaiba slid from Joey’s lap and, with his back to the two males, stretched his limbs. Joey barely suppressed a gasp when Kaiba yanked his head back and stole a quick kiss before his brother turned around.“Are you sure you’re okay, Joey? You still look sick,” Mokuba commented.Joey mumbled an excuse. This seemed to placate the child who immediately asked Joey to walk with him and Seto back to his (Mokuba’s) room. Joey stood up on unsteady legs but accepted the hand offered to him. The three of them walked down the hall with Mokuba in the middle. They were halfway there when Mokuba turned his head to Seto.“Big brother?”“Hmm?”“Why do you call Joey a Jedi? He’s still just a Padawan.”Seto chuckled as he noticed Joey’s head drop with his hair covering over his eyes. He had been planning to tell the Padawan why he often called him Jedi instead of by his proper title. It seemed his brother was helping him with that.“Wheeler has been a Padawan for several years, Mokuba. He’s very skilled and he has a strong connection to the Force. Stronger than most. Despite what the Jedi Council might believe, in my opinion, Wheeler is a Jedi.”Later that evening, after Mokuba had been tucked into bed, Seto was resting on his back in his bed. His eyes were closed, but he wasn’t asleep. He heard Joey finish up in the bathroom and turn off the light before returning to the bed. He could sense hesitation and confusion from the young blonde. A moment later, the smaller body curled up against his side with a closed fist resting on his stomach and a head on his chest.A smirk broke out across Seto’s face as he slid a hand up to stroke the blonde’s head. It wouldn’t be long now.[1] – Favorite. Quote. EVER. Combination of two quotes by Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu.
