Chapter
four
The
next morning Kaiba wandered in his company and entered his office. Delilah was
nowhere to be seen. At around breakfast time Ms. Clark entered his office with
coffee.
“Mr.
Kaiba, Ms. Devlin called in being sick.” The rather small grown mid aged woman
declared.
He
frowned but nodded. Where was she? She wasn’t sick yesterday. Maybe she was too
wasted to come. He would forgive her and decided not to care.
Friday
morning Delilah Devlin was still not at work.
“What
about Ms. Devlin?” He asked Ms. Clark.
“Still
sick, sir. Called about half an hour ago.” She replied and bowed.
Kaiba
walked in his office shutting the door behind him. He wondered what was the
reason for her sickness but soon left it. He wouldn’t die if she didn’t turn
up, would he?
It
was on Monday morning that after seeing Delilah still wasn’t back at work he
found a letter addressed to him on his desk. Opening the envelope he read her
name to his surprise.
Dear Mr. Kaiba,
I would like to quit my contract working
at your company.
After getting an offer I can not refuse I
came to the conclusion that I need to end my work as your secretary with the
end of this month. (Damn it, it was September, 30th! He
thought.)
I hope you will find a good replacement
and thank you for the time I was allowed working for you.
Kindly,
Delilah Devlin
What
the hell was that supposed to mean? She quit working for him! Why? He couldn’t
believe what he had read. Was she playing a game? Was that because of him?
Should he beg her to come back? Anger rose in Kaiba and he slammed the letter
down. Fine! If she wanted to quit, she should have her way. She would be the
one begging to come back, he decided.
Soon
a replacement was found. A young woman with long blonde hair should be his new
secretary. He didn’t really care for any qualification as long as she was
looking good. Then when Delilah would come back she’d turn purple if she saw
her new replacement!
That
was his plan.
But
Delilah didn’t show up.
Kaiba
waited a week, two, then even three but Delilah didn’t came, didn’t beg him to
come back. He was mad at her and so he decided to give a shit about her.
“Ms.
Dorian?” He called for his new secretary. She was working overtime. Mostly
because of the fact that she needed more time for the same work as Delilah
would have taken. But he didn’t care.
“Yes,
Mr. Kaiba?” She popped her beautiful head through the door.
Later
that evening Kaiba’s limousine came to a halt in front of a small house at the
far end of Domino City. The driver opened the door for his master and he
climbed out, following him was Ms. Dorian. Seto inspected the house from
outside with a suspicious glance. All in all a neat place but rather small. The
blonde woman led the way to the front door.
“This
had been a nice evening.” She giggled rummaging through her tiny handbag for
the keys.
“If
you say so.” He said sharp and bored at the same time.
Again
she was giggling, not even giving him a puzzled look about his remark. Seto
shrugged.
“Uh,
here they are!” She exclaimed happily and unlocked the door. “Please come in.”
Kaiba
hadn’t even ask her to come along and did make his usual sarcastic remarks the
whole evening long, though she led him inside her house. He looked around the
place. His grandmother would have a nicer place, he thought. Then he noticed
her standing in front of him, smiling like a model wanting to impress the
audience. Daft. She watched him nervously trying to be seductive. Hell, what
did he care?!
Pulling
her close to him he kissed her. His tongue entered her mouth easily and he
could do whatever he wanted to do. No fighting back. She moaned loudly in the
back of her throat and Kaiba rolled his eyes. It wasn’t often that he had to
urge himself to close them. Dorian’s hands grabbed strands of his brown hair,
messed and toyed with it, then ran down his chest, his back, and upwards again.
He let out a pissed groan but she didn’t even notice. Moaning like a cow she
continued. The grip around her waist tightening he must have hurt her, at least
he thought so, but she didn’t stop moaning as if she was near her climax. He
let go of her mouth and started at her neck.
“Oh
yeah.” She moaned and it was the final straw for Seto to push her away
forcefully. He glared at her with an icy cold stare.
“What’s
wrong?” She asked like a child who had got stolen his lollipop.
“You’re
fired.” He coldly stated and turned about to leave her house.
“What?
Why? I can change if you want. Work harder. Do anything you want.”
He
groaned even more pissed. “I don’t care why! I just decided, got that? Good.”
Opening the door he left her with her jaw dropped at her house. Climbing in his
limo he ordered the driver to take him home.
Kaiba
sat down on his desk staring ahead of him. Then his head dropped on the desk
and he hit his forehead willingly on the cold wooden furniture. Leaning back in
his chair he growled.
“Damn
her.” He couldn’t get Delilah out of his system.
The
next day anyone at Kaiba Corp. wondered why Ms. Dorian didn’t show up. But no
one dared to ask their boss. He was in no mood near good at all and he was
pissed. About midday he had enough and cancelled all his remaining dates for
the day and left. Climbing in his limo his driver ask him where to go. Kaiba
thought for a moment.
“You
still know where Ms. Devlin’s living, don’t you? We go there.”
Minutes
later they arrived at a huge apartment building in the west of Domino City.
Where the hell was she living exactly? In which apartment? Seto climbed out of
his car waving at the driver to wait and made his way to the entrance. Hm…
where the hell was Devlin’s name tag? He looked along the many bells he could
ring when an older woman rushed out of the building leaving the door open.
Unnoticed Kaiba’s foot stepped inside, so the door couldn’t close. He waited
for the woman to be out of sight and entered. He didn’t know which floor
Delilah was living, so he had to climb the stairs.
First
floor no Devlin. Second floor still no Devlin. Third and fourth no one called
Devlin. Fifth no name tag. He rang. A young man opened who only wore his
boxers. He yawned at Kaiba.
“Yeah?”
“Delilah
Devlin, where does she live?” Kaiba asked sharply.
“Delilah?
Um… 7th I guess, yeah, must be 7th. Who are you? Aren’t
you…”
“No,
I’m not.” Seto cut him off and headed up the stairs. The young man yawned again
and scratched his head before he went back inside.
Finally
Seto Kaiba had arrived on the 7th floor. The door where ‘D. Devlin’
was printed at the button for the bell he had found. Taking a deep breath he
pushed the button. Soon enough the door should get opened and two surprised
looking silver blue orbs stared at him. Seto stepped inside pushing Delilah out
of his way.
“What
the hell do you think you’re doing?” She crossed her arms letting the door fall
shut. “What do you want Seto?”
“Mr.
Kaiba for you.” He stated and looked around. Her place was neat and furnished
antique. Nothing real he supposed but nevertheless nice.
“I
call you what I want. I’m not working for you anymore.” She replied following
him.
“Hm.”
He stopped in the middle of her living room and turned to face her. “Right.
What’s that bullshit supposed to mean you’re trying?”
“I
don’t know what you mean.” She leant against the door frame. She was in casual
jeans and a t-shirt but nevertheless looked nice in Seto’s opinion.
“The
bullshit about getting an offer you can’t refuse! The bullshit quitting work at
Kaiba Corp.! You know what I mean. It’s because of damn Will Evers, am I
right?”
Delilah
sighed and sat down on the sofa. “First of all, no, this has absolutely nothing
to do with Will. I didn’t even meet him. Second, you, sit and calm down, okay? Then I’ll explain.”
Kaiba
sat down on a chair opposite her and raised his eyebrows.
“I’ve
got an offer studying in Europe. I’ve always wanted to do that and it seems
like I was best in the test and therefore I’ve got a stipend and don’t need to
pay for it. Before, I couldn’t pay and had to make a training and work as a
secretary but now things have changed and tomorrow morning, 9am my flight will
take me off to Europe. That’s it.”
“Tomorrow?
You could have worked longer. You’ve quit work almost a month ago.” The puzzled
look Seto had on his face was nothing Delilah was used to.
“I
didn’t need any reasons or doubts that would maybe have kept me here. I’ve made
my decision and nothing should stop me.”
Kaiba
shook his head in disbelief. “But why would working have kept you here?”
“You’re
a thick head today Seto.” Standing up she rushed into the kitchen and came back
with two mugs of hot coffee.
Noticing
his stare it wasn’t bad or evil or narrowed or anything like that. Somehow it
seemed pouting. Not with his face in any way. Only with his eyes. She couldn’t
explain it.
“I
don’t want you to go.” He said and it sounded even honest to her. But could she
trust Kaiba?
“But
I need to.”
He
shook his head. “You can’t. I need you here. At work.”
“There
are many secretaries around. I’m sure you’ll find a very good one. Even good
looking and stuff. You don’t need me.”
“No!
You don’t understand. I’ve tried.”
This
time Delilah was giving him a puzzled look. Then he continued.
“I
had a new one and the secretary isn’t the problem. Not really I guess. I…”
Should he really tell her? Damn it. There was no time for doubts. “I was out
with her. She was looking good, blonde and tall and slim and everything…”
She
didn’t need to hear all this.
“…what
I wanted to say. Believe it or not, I couldn’t… can’t… whatever. I wanted to
but I can’t. With other women I mean. It’s like a little man is in my head
who’s talking to me, telling me they should fuck off and leave me alone. It’s
you I want!”
She
gave him a smile of sympathy. Wasn’t that what she wanted?
“So?”
She didn’t know what to tell him. “And what do you think I should do?”
“Quit
that bullshit with quitting work and going to Europe! Stay here. That’s what I
want you to do.” He said in his usual manner.
“That’s
exactly my problem. You want. You always want, don’t you? You want me to do
this and that and I won’t get asked. You treat me like your property and that
sucks. Really.”
“What
you mean is the sex between us?” He asked openly not even being embarrassed.
“Yes.”
She sighed a breath.
“Listen,
that’s not true. Last time…”
“No?”
She cut him off. “Isn’t it true that you call whenever you want? Isn’t it true that you take me whenever you want? So that’s not true, huh? You
don’t care about me and my life. What I want and what makes me happy. You just
don’t care.”
He
groaned. Then he took all his strength and replied. “I’m begging
you now. Come back.” He looked
at her clearly visible the inner fight he was in. Brave to tell her his
feelings but not brave enough. “Please. I could pay you more if you want.”
That
wasn’t what she wanted to hear. “Pay, huh? Do you think you can buy anything?
Even people? Me!? You walk through life, ordering anyone but if they won’t
listen, you’re waving with your money??? God, what do you think I am? You damn
whore? Sorry Seto, that’s not enough for me.” She was mad by now. How dare he?
“What
do you expect from me then? I’m here, am I not? I even begged you to come back but
you, you don’t seem satisfied and I’m
really wondering if you’re worth the effort!” He stood up from his chair
staring at her with this bad look she hated at him the most.
“Probably
not.” Tears stung behind her eyes but she stood up and led him to the door.
Opening it for him to leave she shook her head in sadness. “Probably I’m not
worth you. You’re right. I want too much from you. Goodbye Seto.”
With
a furious glare and a growl he left. His pride was hurt badly and he couldn’t
bring himself to say anything more to her. That was enough. He had given his
best.
