In Search of Treasure
Chapter 4
@-->-->----
Kaiba didn't look back as he strode to the waiting car. He didn't need to. He knew the golden-haired pirate was following him. He also knew the pirate vessel, the 'Black Dragon', was already setting sail again.
The pirate captain didn't trust him not to alert the authorities about its presence there. Kaiba couldn't honestly say he blamed him, since he had given great consideration to doing just that. In the end though, he had decided that honouring the agreement he had made was more important than handing the pirate crew over to the police. Besides, if his collaboration with the pirates became known to his rivals, it could hurt his business.
His decision had no connection with his unwillingness to do anything that could cause the teenager walking behind him to renege on his part of their deal.
Since the 'Black Dragon' would have been recognised if it had gone into the port, they had dropped anchor in a sheltered cove a few miles to the North of Domino City. The pirate captain had arranged for a contact of his to meet Kaiba and the pirate teen there. He was going to drive them to their destination, the Kaiba Estate, where they would join the dragons and learn the whereabouts of the treasure the pirate captain was seeking.
Then the pirate teen would spend the night with Kaiba, in his bed, just as he had agreed.

Kaiba glanced over at the boy sitting beside him in the backseat of the car as it drove through the gates and along the driveway that led to his home. He felt a rush of smug satisfaction at the wide-eyed awe on the pirate's face.
The feeling remained as they pulled up in front of the door and exited the car, then walked up the wide steps to the front door. Kaiba was in the lead and he didn't wait for his butler to open the door when he reached it. He held it open for the pirate, eagerly watching the teen's face for his reaction.
"Nice place ya have here. That long driveway, then this huge house..." The pirate looked at Kaiba and grinned. "Either ya needed a place this big to house your ego or you're compensatin' for somethin'." He deliberately glanced down at the front of the brunette's pants. "Although, I gotta admit, Seto, it didn't look that small to me." He practically purred the words.
Kaiba could almost feel the look the golden-haired teen was giving him. He could definitely feel his pants becoming tighter by the minute. Turning towards the first door on his left, he muttered a curt, "This way," and started walking across the foyer. He tried not to look as though he was making a hasty retreat to avoid grabbing the pirate, pushing him against the wall and having his way with him, then and there. Hearing the soft laugh from behind him though, he had a feeling he hadn't succeeded too well.
The door off the foyer led them into the library. Kaiba strode across the room to the desk. He could hear the pirate following him, so he also heard when he suddenly stopped. "You keep it on your desk?" The teen's voice was incredulous and made Kaiba feel rather defensive.
"What is wrong with that?" The brunette turned and arched an eyebrow. The pirate didn't look at him, his wide brown eyes still staring at the ivory statue with sapphire eyes that was sitting on the desk as if it wasn't a valuable key to a great treasure.
"Nothin', I just... wasn't expectin' it to be out in the open like this. If I'd known..." The teen trailed off, glancing warily at Kaiba.
The brunette noted the wary look and filed it away as more evidence towards one of his more recent suspicions. "If your captain had known it was just sitting here on my desk, he would have come after it here rather than attacking my ships for this past year." The colour that stained the other boy's cheeks confirmed that Kaiba's guess was accurate.
"Well we *are* pirates." It was the pirate's turn to go on the defensive.
Kaiba smirked. "Which is precisely why I have never advertised the fact that there is anything remotely unusual about it being on my desk. As far as the staff are aware, it is merely a little trinket that I use as a paperweight."
The teen stared at Kaiba in shock. "You use it as a... paperweight?" His lips twitched, then he burst out laughing.
Kaiba shrugged. "I have long believed that the best place to hide something is in plain sight." Having reached his desk, he studied the source of the pirate's amusement. "Well... Shall we?"
"Yeah." Wiping tears of laughter out of his eyes, the other boy moved to stand at Kaiba's side. He admired the dragon as he set his backpack on the desk, then he carefully lifted the second statue out.
"That is..." Kaiba shook his head. Any words he might have said had been stolen away by his surprise.
His statue was of a muscular, powerful dragon coiled around so it's proud head was almost directly above the tip of its tail. It was made of ivory, the purity of the colour setting off to perfection the bright blue of the twin sapphires that were set in its eyes. Kaiba had expected the second statue to be the same, so he was startled to see that it was almost the exact opposite.
The pirate's statue was of a lithe and slender dragon sitting with his wings spread out as though he was about to attack. His neck was arched and his front legs were raised as if he was resting against something. His tail curled around his hind legs and then away from his body before curling up. But the most startling difference between it and Kaiba's statue was in the colour. It was made of obsidian, the deep black enhancing the striking deep red of its ruby eyes.
It took them a few minutes to work out how the two dragons were supposed to join together. Eventually though, Kaiba noticed a little notch in the base of the pirate's statue and realised that it corresponded to one of his dragon's talons. They carefully slipped the obsidian dragon into the ivory dragon's embrace. There was a soft click as the two statues became one.
The two teenagers both stepped back to study the results. For almost a minute, they just stood there; staring at the two dragons now entwined together and hardly daring to breathe.
They were exquisite. The ivory dragon was curled around its obsidian companion, as if keeping it safe, but it was obvious that it was the submissive partner. Its head, proudly raised when on its own, was now tucked neatly into the arch of the other dragon's neck. The obsidian dragon's wings were raised, not attacking at all, but protecting its companion. It arched its neck over the other's head, its own head resting against its partner's back as its tail pressed against its companion's side. Its raised claws now rested on the other's back and tail. It had probably been made that way merely so the two statues fit together neatly, but it looked as though the obsidian dragon had not been able to resist touching its companion.
However, what drew the two boys' eyes and caused identical blushes to colour their cheeks was the sight of the ivory dragon's tail nestled beneath the obsidian dragon's hind legs in such a way that the tip was obscured from sight.
"Um... Seto... Does it look to you like your dragon is... molesting mine?"
Kaiba shook his head. "No."
"Oh."
The disappointment in the other teen's voice made Kaiba glance at him. "'Molesting' implies a lack of consent. I would say that looks more like... ravishing."
"Yeah. Good point." The pirate grinned back at Kaiba. "So... you wanna do the honours or will I?" He gestured at the two dragons.
Kaiba studied them carefully before replying, "I believe this will require both of us. We need to turn them over while they remain joined, correct?"
The other boy nodded. "Yeah." He frowned as he considered the problem. "If you put your hand there, and I put mine here, we should be right."
After two tries, both resulting in the dragons separating before they could see underneath them, the two teens finally worked out how to do it. They turned the dragons over, then groaned as they realised they'd turned them the wrong way. They could see something on the bases, but it was upside down.
The next time, they got it right.
The golden-haired pirate immediately leaned down, his eyes eagerly scanning the bases. Even Kaiba had to admit to a slight feeling of excitement. He glanced down, noting to himself that the clue to the treasure wasn't a map, as he had expected, but some lines of writing and some sort of symbol. He frowned as a feeling of familiarity washed over him. He was sure he'd seen that symbol somewhere before. The thought was interrupted by a groan from the other boy.
"No... I don't believe it..."
Kaiba arched an eyebrow. "Is there a problem?"
The pirate slowly straightened, his head hanging down so his hair hid his face from sight. "See for yourself." His voice was quiet. Too quiet.
Uneasiness settled in the pit of Kaiba's stomach. He leaned down, doing his best to appear casual so the other teen remained unaware of the fear growing inside him. He read the words on the base of the statues. Then he read them again. Then he cursed. Loudly.
There were four lines written in a neatly scripted hand over the symbol that, now Kaiba had a good look at it, was as familiar to him as his own name. The lines read:
'The greatest treasure in the land
Cannot be held in any hand
It is not precious jewels or gold
But love that in your heart you hold'
The image was of two hearts entwined.
Kaiba straightened up and he and the pirate silently lowered the statues back to sit on the desk again. For several minutes after that, they simply stood there. They kept their eyes on the statues, neither daring to look at the other. The brunette didn't know what to say and the other teen did not seem inclined to break the silence either. But someone had to.
"You... do not need to stay." Kaiba was more than a little dismayed at how hard the words were to say. Even though he knew it was the right thing for him to do, he had been anticipating the night ahead with more eagerness than he would have thought he could possibly feel. "Since the statues have proven... useless... I will not hold you to our agreement." He refused to look at the golden-haired pirate, not wanting to see the relief that was sure to be in the other boy's eyes.
"No. We made a deal. You kept your side of it. It's not your fault the treasure map turned out to be a love poem. I promised ya a night with me in your bed. I keep my promises. That is... if ya still want me?"
Astonished, Kaiba turned to look at the pirate. He was just in time to catch the teen glancing at him. As the pirate looked away, his cheeks going red, Kaiba smiled.
"Oh yes. I definitely want you."
The pirate took a deep breath and looked over at the brunette, a spark of his usual attitude returning. "Good. But I have to insist on one thing, Seto."
Kaiba arched an eyebrow at the still-blushing teen. "Which is?"
"I insist that ya feed me first. I'm starvin'."
