Kaiba shifted slightly underneath his heavy, gold jacquard
comforter. The sunlight that had managed to sneak through a crack in the
draperies told the brunet that he had overslept. For the third time, he tried to slip out from under the arm that
was draped across his midsection, only to have it tighten its grip as the body
that it was attached to cuddled deeper into him. The resulting exasperated sigh that passed his lips turned into a
low growl when the voice that he abhorred cheerfully wished him good morning
“Funny how some things never
change; she never did like to get up, nor did she want me to until she was good
and ready to let me.” As if to get his meaning across, an image of the priest
and his Katebet in the throes of passionate lovemaking played out in Seto’s
mind.
“Would you stop that?” Kaiba
hissed. He wasn’t sure what disturbed
him the most: how his body reacted to those pictures, or how his imagination
made slight alterations, turning the priest and his ancient lover into their
modern counterparts.
“Why?
Don’t you like it? Or are you jealous?” the priest chuckled.
“I’m not
jealous!” Kaiba asserted.
“Excited,
maybe?”
“No.”
“I don’t
believe you.”
“I don’t care.” Kaiba figuratively turned his back on the
priest. Pointedly ignoring the heat
that was pooling in his groin, he did his best to block the images that the
priest was sending his way. Instead, he reflected on the events that had led to
Jounouchi spending the night in his bed.
It had been after he had showered and changed into his pyjamas. He had
been looking forward to crawling under the blankets and falling fast
asleep. Things had calmed considerably,
and the priest had no longer been keeping him abreast of the goings on concerning
Jounouchi. Unfortunately, that peace
had only lasted a very short time—just long enough for both he and Jounouchi to
shower. Once the blond had realized that Honda would be staying with him, the
proverbial shit had hit the fan again.
He had kicked up such a fuss, screaming and swearing because there was
no way that he was going to share a room, let alone a bed, with the stinky old
Battleguard.
Once Jounouchi had started to get
agitated again, the priest had opened up the link to Kaiba, telling him that he
had to get back there since he was the only person that Katebet could see as
human. Kaiba had just been thankful
that no matter how upset Jounouchi was, he wasn’t swinging the rod around. As soon as he’d entered the room Jounouchi
was staying in, the blond had accosted him, demanding that he get rid of the
monster.
“Jounouchi…”
“Katebet.”
“Pardon me?”
“My name is Katebet,” Jounouchi
had enunciated, speaking slowly as if Kaiba were an idiot.
“No, Jounouchi…”
“Dammit Kaiba, don’t start a fight
over his name, just humour him! If he thinks he’s called Katebet, then just
call him that and don’t be an ass about it!” Honda had yelled from the corner
of the room he had been relegated to.
Whipping around toward Honda, the
blond had hollered, “Get that monster out of here; I’m not sleeping with it.”
“And why does he keep calling me a
monster?”
Smirking as he turned to the other
brunet, Kaiba had answered, “Because of the curse, he’s seeing everyone as Duel
Monsters, and it seems he’s seeing you as the Battleguard.”
“That may be my favourite card,
but he is so dead once he’s back to normal.” Honda had groused. His annoyed
expression had turned into one of puzzlement as he continued, “There’s one thing I don’t understand
though. Yugi said that Jounouchi was seeing him as an attacking Red Eyes, but
yet, earlier Jounouchi was acting as if one was attacking him, and Yugi wasn’t
around. Why’s that?”
Kaiba had zoned out while the
priest clued him in on the minute details of the curse, and then he’d relayed
them back to Honda. “The priest says that the rudimentary part of the curse is
that, at all times, Jounouchi will think his Red Eyes is attacking him. The truly diabolical part is that the person
the cursed one trusts the most in the world will appear as the beast that was
chosen to attack him. In Jounouchi’s
case, Yugi is that person. The priest
said that he is able to lessen the effects of the curse, so that when Yugi
isn’t around, Jounouchi thinks the Red eyes has gone away. But if he steps
outside of that protective bubble, like he did earlier, then he sees the Red
Eyes.”
“Ah, ok. So he sees everyone else as other Duel Monsters, and if he’s not
near the rod, then he’ll see them as threat?”
“That basically sums it up.”
“I don’t care if you say that
thing is human or not,” Jounouchi interrupted, “It’s not staying in here.”
“Fine Jounou… Katebet, he can
sleep in another room.” Fed up with the whole situation and desirous of sleep,
Kaiba had pointed Honda toward the bedroom next to the one they were in at the
moment. “You don’t need Haraku to turn
down the bed for you,” he stated more than asked as Honda passed him.
“No Kaiba, I don’t need anyone to
set out my jammies for me,” the brunet had said snidely on his way out the
door.
Ignoring Honda completely, Kaiba
had turned to Jounouchi and said, “There, are you happy now? Can I finally get some sleep?”
“Yeah I’m good. Thank you.”
Kaiba had been surprised to note
that the last part had sounded very sincere, and as he’d closed the door, he’d
bid Jounouchi a good night, and had wished that he’d sleep well.
Back in his own bed, Kaiba had
tried desperately to forget how adorable—he’d snorted at the word, but really,
that was the only way to describe it—Jounouchi had looked, with his golden
locks damp and askew from his shower, and how his hands were seemingly eaten up
by the sleeves of Seto’s pyjama top.
He’d tried to ignore the stirrings that those images- along with the
memories that the priest had shared with him before- were creating, but sadly,
ten minutes later he’d started to think that another shower, ice cold this
time, was in order. He’d tossed and
turned a few more times, but he must have eventually fallen asleep because the
next thing he knew, he’d been startled awake when he’d felt the other side of
the bed depress. As he’d bolted
upright, he’d been met with the sight of the blond attempting to make himself
comfortable beside him.
“What the hell do you think you’re
doing?” Kaiba had bellowed.
“I… I… I don’t want to be alone,”
Jounouchi’s voice had wavered.
He’d sounded so much like a lost
and scared child--in fact, Seto had been reminded of the times when a much
younger Mokuba would come seeking his comfort after he had had a nightmare--so
much so that Seto hadn’t been able to help but take pity on the blond. As much as he’d wanted to turn him away and
send him back to the room he’d been delegated to, he’d found, much to his
annoyance, that he didn’t have the heart to do it. Instead, he heaved a longsuffering
sigh, and had allowed Jounouchi to stay.
“Just make sure you stay on your own side.”
‘What’s the matter? Afraid of what
you might do if she’s too close?’ the priest wondered.
‘No, ~his~ reputation of bed
hogging is legendary.’
‘If you say so.’
Seto hadn’t been too far off on
his assumption; he did manage to fall asleep, but sometime in the wee hours of
the morning he’d awoken to find Jounouchi wrapped around him. He had tried to get up and move to the other
side of the bed, but the blond had instinctively tightened his hold and
wouldn’t let Seto go. Every time that
Seto had tried to move, that would happen. Once, in utter frustration, he’d
griped that he just had to go to the bathroom for heavens sake; surprisingly,
Jounouchi had let him go. When that had
happened, Seto peered at his bedmate suspiciously – he had to be awake. But no,
his breathing had been even, and his features were completely relaxed; there
had been no visible signs that he was faking.
For a fleeting moment Seto had
considered slipping away to another room, but the blond had seemed so
vulnerable earlier that he hadn’t had it in him to abandon him completely. As he’d crawled back into his bed, he’d
denied vehemently that a part of him ~wanted~ to sleep beside Jounouchi, that
he actually enjoyed the warmth of the other nestled against him. He hadn’t even pulled the comforter over top
of him, and Jounouchi had curled up to him again. He hadn’t thought that he would ever get back to sleep but, as
he’d glanced at the bedside clock, he’d realized that not only had he drifted
off, he’d overslept- and he felt more rested than he had in ages as a result.
He tried one more time to get up,
and once more he was restrained. He
flipped around in the blonde’s arms so that he was facing the other, and raised
his hand to give Jounouchi a good, hard, shove, only to stop abruptly. Even Seto could admit that Jounouchi was
pleasant on the eyes when awake, but sleeping, with all of the tension absent
from his features, the teen was absolutely breathtaking. Instead of shoving him in the shoulder as he
had been planning, his hand came down and gently caressed the peach fuzz
cheek.
‘Beautiful isn’t she?’
Kaiba jumped at the priest’s
intrusion, ‘Hmm,’ was his only response.
‘If you’re so in love with him—her, whatever— then why are you so
determined to throw us together?’
‘That’s easy. She’ll make you get me out of here. Besides,
I’m willing to share with you.’
Kaiba didn’t have a chance to tell
the priest that he didn’t share, because he suddenly felt the familiar
sensation of being stared at. He
shifted his focus to the only other person in the room, and found himself held
in Jounouchi’s speculative gaze “You’re pretty. It’s too bad you hate me.”
“I… I don’t hate you,
J-Katebet.” It was true. He didn’t hate
the blond; he found himself annoyed by him constantly, yes, but he got a charge
out of their verbal battles.
“Then why won’t you help me? Seto says that you can, but you refuse to.”
Seto couldn’t reply, feeling that
the reason was much more complicated than he felt Jounouchi could understand at
the moment. While he was trying to put it into terms that the blond would
comprehend Jounouchi interrupted his thoughts.
“Fine; if you won’t answer that question, then let me ask one that you
will.”
“What is that, J- Katebet?”
“What’s your name? You can at
least tell me that, can’t you?”
“Kaiba. You call me Kaiba.”
Jounouchi nodded. “So why do you call me that name, Jou—“
“Jounouchi? Because that’s your name. The priest has you
confused with somebody else.” He really
didn’t want to have this conversation.
He thought that telling Jounouchi everything would only serve to
confound him more.
“Who?”
Seto didn’t miss the sadness in
that simple question. He and the priest
were Jounouchi’s only lifelines to anything normal, and Seto felt a stab of
envy at the thought that the priest had been much more supportive than he
had. He would have been ashamed of his
actions from the previous night, except that Kaiba’s didn’t feel shame. “I don’t know quite how to answer that
question, Jounouchi.”
“Well can’t you at least try?” the
blond implored him.
“Let’s just say that he has your
best interests in mind, and he’ll keep you protected until the curse is
removed.”
“Seto says that you can do it, but
that you won’t. It’s because you don’t
like me, isn’t it?”
“No, Jounouchi, that’s not it at
all.” Sensing that they were only going
to go around in circles on the issue, he asked the blond the one thing that he
was sure would take his mind off of the current topic. “Are you hungry?”
“No, not really.” After a moment
of stunned silence from Kaiba, the blond continued. “Well, maybe a little, but
I don’t feel much like eating,” Jounouchi said sadly.
Absolutely nothing could have
shocked Seto more than that statement did.
He’d never thought the day would come when Jounouchi would turn down the
opportunity to eat. Unfortunately for
Seto, with that shock came the realization that the blond was horribly
depressed. And now, to top it off, he Kaiba Seto was laden with guilt
feelings—something he didn’t normally experience. Quite unhappily, he realized that if Yugi couldn’t get the
pharaoh to undo the curse soon, he would have to do it.
While Seto had been deep in
thought, the priest had managed to convince Jounouchi to not let his depression
take hold and ruin his day. Plus, he’d cajoled the blond into getting up and
getting dressed before going down to breakfast. As he was walking out of the bedroom, he turned to Seto and
thanked him for allowing him to sleep in his bed.
“You’re welcome, Jounouchi,” the
brunet said, sliding out of bed himself, adding silently, ‘anytime’. “I’ll stop at your room, and show you to the
dining room when I’ve changed. Okay?” The blond nodded and then slipped out of
the door, closing it behind him.
****
Fifteen minutes later, Seto was in
the dining room fielding questions from both Honda and Mokuba—his brother,
having had an argument with his friend, was home early from his sleepover.
The fin head was hopping mad. He wanted
to know why Jounouchi had spent the night in Seto’s room. After finding Jounouchi’s room empty he’d
gone to see if Seto had any idea where the blond could be, only to witness his
friend exiting the brunet’s bedroom and thanking him for allowing him to stay
the night. Currently, Honda was threatening the other brunet with life and limb
should he dare try and take advantage of Jounouchi’s vulnerability. Seto rolled
his eyes at the accusation. “Hnn, I’m not the one you need to worry about,
Honda. And as long as ~he~ stays inside the rod, there’ll be nothing for you to
be concerned with,” Kaiba said in reference to the priest’s amorous feelings
towards Jounouchi. Seeing that the
other brunet was still not convinced, Seto gave a truncated explanation of the
previous night’s events.
Seto then turned his attention to
his brother, who wanted to know why Jounouchi had pounced on him, shouting
“Kuriboh! Oh, you’re so cute!!!” the
second he had walked into the dining room, and why he was now pinned in the blonde’s
lap, having the daylights squished out of him.
Twelve hours ago he’d have snorted
and said that it was because Jounouchi was a moron, but now he was just happy
to see uninhibited joy on the blonde’s face.
While Jounouchi continued to tickle and nuzzle his brother, Seto related
the happenings of the night before.
Mokuba’s admonishment that Seto should have already freed the blond,
though expected, still stung. He had hoped
for a little more understanding from his brother. As he was about to reply, Haraku entered the room ushering in
Yugi and Otogi.
It didn’t take Seto long to
realize that it was Yami striding toward them, and not Yugi. True, the other’s regal bearing and pompous
attitude did give him away, but more than that, it was Jounouchi’s reaction to
the other that was the telling sign, and was what chewed at Seto’s insides.
Instead of the expected fearful freak out, with an exclamation of “oh so
pretty”, the blond dumped Mokuba out of his lap, and leaving the rod on the
table, jumped up to snuggle the former pharaoh.
Despite his shock and irritation,
Seto did have his wits about him; curtly, he stated that he was glad to see
that Yami had finally come to his senses, and was going to release Jounouchi
from the curse.
Encircling the blonde’s waist with
a slender arm and pulling him closer, Yami chuckled. “I never said that,
Seto. Come to my senses? Perhaps. But
free him? Why? He’s perfect just as he is. Don’t you think so?” Yami purred,
and then nipped at the blonde’s ear.
“I’ve fantasized about making him my little slave for such a long time
now.”
Seto was doing his level best to
convince himself that the jealousy raging through his body was just overflow
from the priest, who was in an apoplectic state. The rod was glowing a brilliant
gold, and Seto was almost brought to his knees from the force of the priest’s
energy as he tried to get out of his prison to protect his love from the
lecherous pharaoh. To make matters even
worse, more than just tolerating Yami’s advances, Jounouchi actually seemed to
be enjoying them- if his flirtatious giggling and the way in which is body
moulded into the pharaoh’s was anything to go by.
“Gorgeous and so willing, aren’t
you Katebet?” Yami pressed his lips into the crook of the blonde’s neck, and
the resulting mewls shot arrows of desire around the room. Seto could tell that no one was left
unaffected by the licentious display in front them, including his brother. And
that just stoked the fires of his anger further. "Pharaoh, release him
from that spell now!" Seto bellowed.
Yami seemed completely unfazed by
the anger radiating from the azure-eyed brunet, and with a sly sneer, he lifted
Jounouchi's face with two fingers beneath his chin. "No, I don't think so.
I have a much better idea," he said, and then crushed Jounouchi's lips
beneath his own. The blond responded immediately, whimpering beneath the
assault.
The sight of Jounouchi returning
the pharaoh’s kiss was too much for Kaiba to bear. Wrapping his hand around the
glowing rod, he snarled, “Fix this now!”
Immediately, he was aware of his own spiritual essence being shoved
aside and that of the priest’s taking control of his body. He felt as if he was in the backseat of
a car, watching everything from a distance through the windshield. He understood the ancient Egyptian
incantations the priest was uttering as perfectly as if they were ingrained
into his soul, and within moments, he began to chant them with the other. The rush that he felt from the surge of
magic pulsing through his spirit was almost sexual in nature.
Once they’d completed the
incantation, Seto swore that he saw sparks fly out of the rod to wash Jounouchi
in a warm, golden glow. His gaze locked
on the other, he saw the exact moment when the spell finally broke. The
blonde’s body tensed, and he shoved the pharaoh violently away from him. His
fist came up as if to strike the smirking ass in the face, but he stopped just
short of contact. “It’s just because
it’s Yugi’s body, ya bastard.”
The priest had no compassion for
the pharaoh’s other, and he wrapped a hand around the wild-haired male’s
slender neck and backed him up against the wall. The sennen eye appeared in the middle of Yami’s forehead at the
action and, as if in response, the rod began glow again. “Oh fuck, somebody stop them,” Kaiba heard
someone say.
Jounouchi jumped between two
ancient spirits, “Stop it, both of you.
What the fuck, Kaiba?” Turning to look closer at the brunet, he said,
“You’re not Kaiba. Seto?” At the priest’s
slight nod, Jounouchi wrapped his arms around the priest’s neck, and thanked
him sincerely for his protection.
“Katebet…” The arm holding the rod
wrapped around the blonde’s waist, and his face lowered to breathe in the scent
of his long lost love’s silky hair, but he still kept a firm hold on his
victim.
“You have to let him go.”
“Yes, cousin; instead of trying to
kill me, you should be thanking me. At
least you’re connected with your other now.”
Yami chuckled as he pried away the choking hand at his throat. At the dumbfounded look on the priest’s
face, he continued, “It was a gamble, but I figured that, ancient or modern,
you wouldn’t want me touching what was yours.”

LadyVirgo91656:
Thank you very much. I loved the dragon scene myself, that just came out of
nowhere while I was writing the chapter.
Winterinmyheart:
Thank you so much. I’m sorry that this
chapter took so long to come out, and I’m doubly sorry to say that the next
chapter will be a while before it gets written as I have an RR chapter that
needs my attention.
or
kitkattcassy: I’m glad you’re enjoying this story and thank you very much for
your wonderful review. As for how Seto and Kaiba get along, I’m thinking that
will be a bumpy road. As for your other
ponderings, I guess I have to be evil and say, you’ll see, eventually. Again
thank you.
