Chapter Four
After
nearly five gallons of coffee, Seto takes an extremely hot shower and gets
ready for the day ahead of him. He rides in his limo to school after dropping
Mokuba off at his junior high school.
Katsuya
walks up to Seto as the brunet sits in his desk trying to read a book about
dreams that he had his secretary buy him the afternoon before. “Hey,
moneybags!”
“Mutt!”
exclaims Seto.
“You missed
our fight yesterday. Was something wrong?”
Seto looks
over the edge of his book at Katsuya and sees the concern in the honey-colored
orbs. He shakes his head. “I had too much work to bother with fighting with a
worthless mutt like you!”
Katsuya
hangs his head pitifully. “Heh… should have known that’s all I’d ever be to
you… but you know… even if I am worthless to you, you don’t have to call me a
dog. I’m not a dog, you know.”
“Yes you
are, mutt. Get used it and just accept the fact that I am your master, and
we’ll have no problems,” says Seto.
“You’re not
my master, Kaiba,” whispers Katsuya leaning close to Seto to whisper into his
ear, “I don’t think you have the guts to be my master.” He quickly moves away
from Seto and sits down in his desk beside Yugi.
Seto stares
at Katsuya for a moment before returning to his book. He tries to understand
what his subconscious mind could be trying to tell him through the symbolism of
his dreams, but he can’t grasp onto the concept within the dreams of Katsuya.
The teacher
makes her appearance in the room and settles the class down before starting the
lesson.
‘I already
know this math,’ thinks Seto continuing to read his book on a section referring
to card games like poker and blackjack. He leans against his desk with his head
propped up by one hand and the other holding his book open. He blinks, but his
eyes fail to open again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Seto’s~Dream~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaiba glares at Jou, and
Jou glares right back at him. Both boys hold a card in their teeth between
them. If it weren’t for the card, they’d be close enough to kiss.
Jou
growls ferociously. “Mine…”
“Let go,
mutt… This card is mine,” snarls Kaiba back without releasing his hold on the
card.
“Not a
mutt, Seto,” mumbles Jou.
“Are
too, Katsuya,” says Kaiba.
Jou
steps closer to Kaiba and grabs the lapel of Kaiba’s shirt, tugging on the dark
blue fabric. “Mine…”
Kaiba
shakes his head briefly. “Mine…”
“Mine.”
Jou slides his body closer to Kaiba’s so that their legs brush against each
other’s.
“This
damn card is mine.” Kaiba glances down at the card and sees a glimpse of the
monster on its surface before his eyes cross completely and his vision fades
out. He blinks repeatedly and looks at Jou again. He grabs Jou’s shirt roughly.
Jou
growls. “It’s my Blue-Eyes. I got it from Yugi.”
“I
ripped that card in half, and this one isn’t torn,” says Kaiba, “It’s mine.” He
shoves Jou brutally backwards.
Jou
falls onto his butt with part of Kaiba’s shirt still in his hands. His mouth
however, is thankfully free of the card it contained moments ago. He looks up
at Kaiba with tear-filled eyes. “That’s my dragon, Seto, you stupid bastard!
Give it back!”
“No… I
think I’ll keep it,” says Kaiba turning away so he doesn’t have to see the
tears in the stubborn, yet attractive, honey eyes.
“You
really are a bastard, Kaiba,” says Jou fiercely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Is it too
much trouble to ask that you pay attention in class, Mr. Kaiba?” asks the
teacher slamming a heavy textbook down on Seto’s desk.
Seto jumps
uncharacteristically and looks at the teacher with wide, angry eyes. He stands
up and glares at the shorter woman. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
The teacher
stumbles back a step and tries to glare at Seto, but she only manages a weak
grimace. “Would you mind paying attention, Mr. Kaiba?”
Seto turns
and sits down in his desk again. He retrieves his book from where it had fallen
to the floor and opens it up again to continue reading.
The teacher
takes a deep breath to calm herself before carrying her text book up to the
front of the room and beginning her lesson again.
Seto
finishes reading the section of his book and closes it to write down the dream
he just had, but in case anyone happened to be looking over his shoulder, he
simply writes ‘JK’ down anytime when he would have normally written ‘Katsuya’
or ‘Jou’. That way no one would realize that he was writing about the mutt. He
sneaks a glance over at Katsuya and sees the blond paying attention to the
words on the chalkboard but not making any notes of his own. He turns his own
attention to the woman writing on the board, but when he sees the simple
problem she’s working on, he turns his attention back to his book and continues
to read.
* * *
Seto stays
in the classroom even after everyone else rushes off to lunch. He continues to
read the book about dreams.
“So… what’s
up with you, Kaiba?” asks Katsuya leaning against the doorframe into the
classroom, “You normally at least feign interest in what the teacher has to
say. And I’ve never seen you backtalk one before! Is something wrong?”
“Leave me
alone, mutt!” exclaims Seto.
Katsuya
walks up to Seto and rips the book from his hands. “Let’s see… A Guide to Your
Dreams… Are you having nightmares or something? Worse yet, is Mokuba?”
“Yes…
Mokuba has been, but he’s not willing to discuss it,” says Seto.
“I know a
little about dream therapy. Maybe I can help,” says Katsuya sitting down in
front of Seto and handing the book back. “What have his dreams been about?”
Seto stares
at Katsuya in silence for a moment while his mind races wondering what to do.
He sighs. “He was sitting at the kitchen table doing his homework on my laptop,
and one of his classmates was with him… a male classmate. His classmate started
to feed him some fruit while he worked.”
“Hmm… okay…
what kind of fruit was it?”
“What does
that matter?”
“Well… if
it was strawberries with cream or grapes or even a banana it would have a
sexual reference to it,” explains Katsuya.
Seto quirks
an eyebrow at the blond’s words.
“Grapes are
a fruit of love. You always see people in movies feeding the one they love
grapes. Strawberries and cream are often used in foreplay, and bananas… well,
you could probably get the reference to that one,” says Katsuya blushing
slightly, “It’s the next closest thing for a young gay boy to be practicing
deep throat techniques with.”
“Mokuba is
not gay,” says Seto sternly.
“Right.
That’s why I wanted to know what kind of fruit it was, so we could eliminate
that as an option,” says Katsuya.
“It was an
orange,” says Seto.
“An
orange?” asks Katsuya. “Hmm… I’ve never heard of that fruit being in a dream
before. Maybe the fruit itself wasn’t the issue and it was the color that was
significant… unless it’s just referring to how sweet your brother is.”
“Focusing
on the color… what would that mean?” asks Seto.
“Well… if
you’re looking at aura colors it could be referring to the cleansing center of
your… I mean, Mokuba’s body… but the color also describes Mokuba’s character,”
says Katsuya.
“How so?”
“Friendly,
sociable, outgoing nature… that’s what orange represents,” says Katsuya, “If
you want, you could have Mokuba keep a dream journal, and then I could help you
translate them later.” He smiles warmly.
“Maybe,”
says Seto turning his eyes back to the book.
“By the
way, the laptop he was using in the dream… it means that he needs to be able to
communicate with others in any circumstances,” says Katsuya turning away from
Seto, “I’m going to lunch now! You know… you really should eat more! You’re
going to have people thinking you’re anorexic if you keep going on the way you
do.”
Seto’s eyes
widen as Katsuya disappears around the door. He swallows hard and remembers
those exact same words from his dream. He begins to read the next passage of
his book.
* * *
“Hey,
Kaiba!” exclaims Katsuya running down the hall towards Seto after the final
bell rings.
Seto spins
around and glares at Katsuya. “What do you want, you filthy mutt?”
Katsuya
glares at Seto. “Your ass on a Tiki stick would be nice!”
“Do you
even know what a Tiki stick is, mutt?” asks Seto.
“Sure do!
It’s a ward to fend off enemies, usually made by putting the head of your enemy
on a stick at your borders!” Katsuya smirks. “But I think an ass as big as
yours would prove to fend off enemies much better than your head! Course, you
have a big head too!”
“I’m
surprised. There might actually be a brain in your head somewhere,” says Seto
sternly.
“Yep!
Mokuba invited me over to play with him. Can I snag a ride to your place?” asks
Katsuya grabbing Seto’s arm and dragging the brunet out of the school and
towards the limo waiting by the curb.
“No! I
wouldn’t let a mangy, flea-bitten mutt like you in my limo if the world was
falling apart around your ears!” exclaims Seto tearing his arm away from
Katsuya and opening the door to the limo.
“Okay… then
you can tell Mokuba that I had to refuse his invitation. Poor kid will probably
start crying,” says Katsuya.
Seto stops
halfway from getting into the limo. He climbs out and grabs Katsuya’s shirt
collar. He punches the blond in the stomach.
Katsuya’s
eyes widen, and he gasps for air.
Seto hurls
Katsuya into his limo and climbs in after him. He closes the door firmly behind
him.
The limo
starts to move.
“What the
hell was that for?” asks Katsuya rubbing his stomach and sitting as far from
Seto as he possibly can.
“That was
for trying to blackmail me into giving you a ride,” says Seto simply, “It’s
beside the point that Mokuba would be extremely upset if you didn’t show up to
play with him today. You shouldn’t use that against me!”
“And you
shouldn’t have hit me!” exclaims Katsuya, “That really hurt, you prick!”
Seto
smirks.
Katsuya
crosses his arms over his chest. He looks out the window. “My house is down
that street. You can let me off here.”
“You are
coming home with me,” says Seto.
“No! I
don’t think I want to if you’re going to be violent! I’ll just call Mokuba and
tell him I can’t come!” exclaims Katsuya. He moves to open the door, despite
the fact that the vehicle is still moving.
Seto pushes
the lock button. “You’re not leaving, mutt.”
Katsuya
glares at Seto.
“I’m sorry
for hitting you.”
Katsuya
sighs. “Accepted.”
“How do you
know so much about dreams?” asks Seto without warning.
“What?
Dreams?” asks Katsuya raising an eyebrow, “Oh, well… Shizuka… My little sister
believes that dreams can tell us about the future. So whenever one of us has an
especially vivid dream, we’ll write it down to the other and mail it off. Then
we translate each other’s dreams. And each year, we both get a new book on
dreams. This year it’s my turn to buy the two books and mail one off to her.”
“So you
have a lot of books on dreams and their meanings?” asks Seto.
Katsuya
nods. “A whole bookshelf full! We started this when she was still very little.
She couldn’t even read yet.”
“And you
can read your books? Even without glasses?” asks Seto raising an eyebrow.
“Well…
yeah… it gives me a migraine though after about ten pages. I don’t read much,”
mumbles Katsuya hanging his head in shame.
“So… what
does it mean if you have a dream and you’re fighting someone you know?” asks
Seto.
“Testing my
knowledge now, huh?” asks Katsuya, “Let’s see… fighting… inner turmoil. Maybe
you’re really fighting with yourself, you know. Or maybe it could be related to
a fight in the real world… like your struggle to maintain control of Kaiba Corp
when your board of directors was trying to steal it from underneath you.”
The limo
passes through the gates to the Kaiba mansion and pulls up in front of the
large house.
“Come with
me, mutt,” says Seto climbing from the limo after unlocking the doors.
Katsuya
climbs out and follows Seto into the mansion.
“Follow
your master, mutt,” says Seto smirking, “I should get you a collar and a leash!
Pretty green ones!”
“You will
do no such thing!” exclaims Katsuya pushing ahead of Seto and walking up to the
door. He crosses his arms and waits for Seto to reach the door to punch in the
key code for the electronic locking system.
Seto
unlocks the door and opens it.
Katsuya
walks into the mansion. “Hey! Mokuba! I’m here! Where are you?”
Mokuba runs
down the stairs and launches himself at Katsuya and Seto, knocking Katsuya back
into Seto so that he can hug them both at the same time. “Hi, Seto! Hi, Jou!
Come on! I got some great new games that I want you to play with me!”
“You just
like playing me cause I always lose!” exclaims Katsuya chuckling as Mokuba
pulls him away.
“I’ll be in
my office if you need me, Mokuba,” says Seto, “and be sure to send the mutt
around when you’re done playing with him so I can arrange a ride home for him.”
“Right, big
brother!” exclaims Mokuba.
Seto heads
to his office and starts working, but lack of proper rest finds him soon
placing his head on his desk and falling asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Seto’s~Dream~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaiba
leans against the wall of the game room watching his young brother playing
ping-pong with Jou.
“I’m
going to beat you, Mokuba!” exclaims Jou as he bats the ping-pong ball towards
the other side of the table.
“I don’t
think so, Jou!” exclaims Mokie hitting the ball back towards Jou, “You see, I’m
a game master just like Seto! He’s the only one who can beat me!”
“Not
today!” exclaims Jou smashing the ball towards Mokie.
Mokie
returns the ball, and it hits the table before flying past Jou. “Ha! Beat that!
I win!”
“Man!”
exclaims Jou stomping his foot on the floor, “Lost by one point!”
“You
never had a chance against him, Katsuya!” exclaims Kaiba chuckling.
Jou
glares at Kaiba as he pulls a black marker from his pocket. “You are not touching
me with that, Seto!”
“Standard
rules of play, mutt,” says Kaiba stepping up beside Jou. He pops the cap off
the marker and grabs Jou’s chin. “Hold still.”
Jou
closes his eyes. “This is stupid!”
“I won!
I won! I won!” exclaims Mokie happily.
Kaiba
makes a circle around Jou’s left eye. “There… now we can call you Spot!”
“You do
and you’ll die!” exclaims Jou.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seto jumps
as he opens his eyes. He looks all around him at his empty office, and he
breathes heavily. “Just a dream… only a dream.”
Within a
moment, Seto has a new document opened on his computer and he writes down the
contents of his latest dream. He saves the file and closes it. He looks at the
work on his screen and yawns. He turns the monitor off and lies down on the
couch. “One more dream and I’ll be sure I’m crazy.”
Seto closes
his eyes and welcomes sleep even as he says a silent prayer that it will be a
dreamless sleep, and for the most part, he’s lucky. He sleeps for nearly two
hours before his dream begins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Seto’s~Dream~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Pretty soon I will have
you down on your knees, begging me for mercy!” exclaims Kaiba as he stands on
his duel platform with his cards in hand.
“I don’t
think so, Seto!” exclaims Jou standing tall and proud on his duel platform.
“You
don’t think at all, Katsuya!” exclaims Kaiba, “I play the Blue-Eyes White
Dragon! Attack his defense monster!”
The
Blue-Eyes White Dragon appears in front of Kaiba and sends its Neutron Blast
towards the card on Jou’s side of the field.
“Dammit!”
exclaims Jou.
“No
cussing!” exclaims Kaiba.
“Ooo…
Sorry, Seto! I didn’t know I couldn’t swear in your dream!” exclaims Jou
drawing his card. He smirks. “I’ll play the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that I got
from Yugi! Go Blue-Eyes!”
A second
Blue-Eyes White Dragon appears on the field, this time on Jou’s side.
Kaiba
scowls. “Well… you have your dragon, but remember, I still have two Blue-Eyes
in my deck, and I can summon the Blue-Eyes Ultimate. What have you got?”
Jou
smirks. “Wait and see! Your move!”
Kaiba
draws his card. “I summon my second Blue-Eyes White Dragon!”
Jou
takes a deep breath as he draws a card. He smiles happily. “I play Dragon Claws
to power up my Blue-Eyes! Blue-Eyes, attack the dragon on Seto’s right!”
Jou’s
Blue-Eyes White Dragon blasts off its breath weapon to destroy the other
dragon.
“Now
let’s see you summon your Blue-Eyes Ultimate, master!” exclaims Jou, “Pretty
soon, you’ll be calling me that!”
“Never!”
exclaims Kaiba. He draws his card. “First, I will play this card, Sword and
Shield to reverse our attack and defense points! Second, I will use Monster
Reborn to call back my Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard. Third, I will
summon my third Blue-Eyes to the field, and finally, I will use Polymerization
to fuse them into the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon! Blue-Eyes, attack!”
“No!”
Jou turns away so he doesn’t have to watch his dragon destroyed.
“Now…
bow down to me, puppy, and bark!” exclaims Kaiba.
Jou
falls to his knees. “Woof, woof, woof!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seto wakes
up feeling someone shaking him lightly. He opens his eyes and stares into the
honey-brown eyes of Katsuya. “Katsuya?”
“What
did you just call me?” asks Katsuya looking at Seto angrily.
Seto shakes
his head and blinks repeatedly. He yawns. “I have no idea!”
“Well…
don’t do it again! Only the people I love ever get to call me Katsuya! Yugi,
Serenity! People who I love and who love me back!” exclaims Katsuya.
“You’re
about ready to go home. Is that why you’re here?” asks Seto sitting up.
“Yeah. I’ve
been here almost three hours. My dad isn’t going to be pleased that I was gone
so long, but Mokuba and I got caught up playing a team game,” says Katsuya, “So
we lost track of time.”
“Do you
still have a few minutes?” asks Seto, “I can have my limo take you back to your
house afterwards.”
“Um… I
guess I can spare a few more. What’s up?” asks Katsuya.
“Remember I
asked you to take a look at something a few days ago. I want you to take a look
at it again,” says Seto standing up and guiding Katsuya to the computer where
he forces the blond to sit down in the chair. He turns on the monitor and leans
around Katsuya to open the file.
“Um… Kaiba…
I already told you that I can’t see it,” says Katsuya averting his eyes.
Seto opens
the top drawer and pulls out the box containing the glasses. He passes it to
Katsuya. “I hope you appreciate this, mutt! I got you a present!”
Katsuya
opens the box and stares at the glasses inside. “What?”
“Put them
on and take a look at this!” exclaims Seto.
Katsuya
puts the glasses on and looks at the computer screen. He squints his eyes a
little.
Seto looks
at Katsuya and smirks at the small oval framed glasses that compliment the
blond’s eyes magnificently. “How do the glasses fit? They look nice enough on
you.”
Katsuya
blushes. “They’ll need some adjustment so they sit properly on my face, but
they fit okay as it is… Now! About this program here, there’s something I don’t
understand.”
“What is
it?” asks Seto with a sigh.
“This relay
here,” says Katsuya pointing, “It seems to be connected to the transistor over
here, but I would think that it should be hooked up to the… uh… this thing
here!”
Seto
clenches his eyes closed. He starts chuckling.
“What’s so
funny?”
“I knew all
it would take to figure out my problem is a simple mind!”
“Who are
you calling simple?” Katsuya growls.
“You!”
exclaims Seto, “How do you know enough to be able to fix this problem anyway?”
Katsuya
looks at Seto and winks. “That’s for me to know, and you to find out!”
Seto
smiles. “I’ll have my limo meet you at the door. You can find your way out,
right?”
“This place
isn’t that big, and if I do get lost, I can yell for Mokuba!” exclaims
Katsuya standing, “Have fun working on your little project!”
Seto
watches Katsuya walk to the door. “Stop, mutt!”
“I’m not a
mutt!” exclaims Katsuya spinning around and glaring at Seto.
“Thank
you,” says Seto, “Now get out of my house.”
Katsuya
nods and heads out of Seto’s office.
Seto lifts
the phone and calls for his limo.
