P is for Pox
“Class, listen up.”
Everyone, with the exception of Kaiba, looked up from their work. The teacher had stepped out a minute to speak with the school nurse and had now returned.
“I’ve been informed by the school nurse that Mr. Wheeler will be out all week with the chicken pox. Someone will need to take his weeks’ worth of work to him. Let me see a raise of hands. Who here has never had the chicken pox?” the teacher asked.
Every hand went up except Kaiba. He was still ignoring her in favor of typing something on his laptop. With a shark-like grin, she slowly and quietly approached the CEO’s desk. All heads turned around to see what was going to happen. Some even started making bets.
Without warning, Seto’s laptop was slammed shut. He barely moved his fingers out of the way to prevent them from being smashed. He turned a lethal glare up to his teacher, not noticing the thick folder now sitting atop his laptop.
“Thank you, Mr. Kaiba, for volunteering,” the teacher told him.
His glare intensified to an even higher degree. One usually only reserved for a certain mutt.
“I did no such thing,” Seto told her.
“Have you had the chicken pox?”
“Yes.”
Smirk.
“Then you volunteer.”
Seto sneered at her as she swiftly turned around and walked away. Ignoring who it was he was addressing, Seto threw a demand at her back.
“What the Hell am I being volunteered for?” Seto demanded.
“You are taking Mr. Wheeler his schoolwork for the week.”
By the end of the day, everyone on campus had heard how a science class learned how foul a mouth the teenage CEO had. And how the teacher felt about that.
/……/
2…1…3. Furthest from the stairs and in a back corner. Seto glared at the faded two and three and the missing one. He should have been sitting in the middle of a business meeting, but instead he was waiting for Wheeler to open the blasted apartment door. He had knocked twenty seconds ago with no response.
He raised his fist and knocked loudly on the door. This time, a muffled reply came from within.
“Go away.”
Seto growled. He didn’t have time for this shit. The next knock was accompanied with a “Wheeler, open this door or I will.” He didn’t hear what was said first, but then a muffled yet clear “Go away, Kaiba” came through.
Glaring at the door, Seto pulled a small kit out of his bag, opened it, selected certain tools, and closed the kit. It took less than five seconds for the lock to be picked. Seto stashed his kit back into his bag before pushing the door open and going inside. It took only a few steps inside the apartment for Seto to locate the blonde.
The blonde, obviously having heard him come in, was sitting up on the couch. His head drooped with exhaustion and his foggy gaze was only half-aware when he glanced up at his rival.
“Don’t un’erstan’ the concept of go away, Kaiba?” Wheeler mumbled.
Seto rolled his eyes.
“I’ve heard better comebacks from preschoolers, Wheeler,” Seto sneered.
Wheeler shot him a glare, but there was no heat behind it.
“Go the fuck away,” Wheeler grumbled, falling back against the couch.
Seto chuckled. “At least the preschoolers don’t use vulgarity to get their point across.”
Closing his eyes, Wheeler groaned. He grimaced as if a jolt of pain was zinging through his head. Seto’s face fell down into a deep frown. The mutt’s best friend had told him Wheeler had started out sick with what they had assumed was the flu. The boy looked horrible and Seto called him out on that.
“’course I look bad. My old man’s out of town the nex’ two weeks for that new job of his and I been sick a few days,” Wheeler mumbled.
His words kept meshing together as his energy seemed to leave him. The blonde really did look miserable. His hand would start to come up as if to scratch, but then the blonde would flinch and lower it. The blonde’s bare torso, face, and arms were riddled in the bright red dots. Seto imagined the rest of him wasn’t any better.
Joey closed his eyes and laid back down to curl into his pillow and away from his rival. Rolling eyes again, Seto went in search of something to help the sick duelist. To his surprise, there wasn’t any medicine or calamine lotion to soothe Wheeler. He had at least expected the lotion to be there. How else was the male supposed to stop himself from scratching? Seto stormed back down the hall and into the living room.
“Wheeler, what in the Hel…”
Seto stopped short in his speech. Wheeler was asleep. Another surprise for today. The blonde duelist had actually fallen asleep while his rival – his enemy – was present in his “safe haven.” Taking a step closer, Seto brought his hand down to Wheeler’s forehead.
Warm. Very warm. At least 101. Maybe 101.3. Pulling his hand back, Seto sighed. Despite his responsibilities to the company and his brother, Seto knew he couldn’t leave the blonde like this. Especially if what he said about his father was true.
Seto pulled out his phone and hit speed dial. The line picked up on the first ring.
“Roland, have my secretary cancel all my appointments for the rest of the day and all of tomorrow. Pick up Mokuba and take him home. Make sure he eats his dinner and finishes his homework.”
“Will there be anything else, Sir.?”
“Yes. I need you to bring me a few things.”
/……/
Joey whimpered and tried to squirm away. A heavy hand pushed down on his shoulder, forcing him back down.
“Stop moving. I’m not finished, Wheeler.”
Joey grumbled, but laid back down in agony. He let out a sigh as cool cream was smoothed across his lower back. He hadn’t been too keen on the idea of another person touching him, especially when that person was Kaiba. However, the brunette had been relentless in wrestling him to the ground until he was coughing up carpet fibers.
He had finally given in when the itch got to be too much. He had lowered his head to the ground and mumbled incoherently. Somehow, Kaiba had understood him. Joey heard the cap of a bottle open and had sagged in relief when cool cream was rubbed across his back. He didn’t even protest the removal of his pajama bottoms.
Seto shook his head with a grin. The blonde was so relieved to have the itch leaving that he didn’t notice where his rival’s hands had wandered. He had smoothed his hands up Joey’s legs from ankle to thigh. He had slipped his hands up into Wheeler’s boxers to check for the chicken pox there. Shaking his head, Seto spread the cream around before pulling his hands back down.
Maybe we’ll see just how much “medicine” he needs later, Seto thought.
Closing up the lotion, Seto stood up and disappeared into the kitchen. He washed his hands free of the lotion and dried them on what he hoped was a clean dishtowel. When he came back into the living room, he found Wheeler on the verge of falling back asleep.
“Sit up, mutt,” Seto ordered as he came around the couch.
The half-conscious blonde sat up without question. He offered no protests as his taller classmate helped him slip his pajama bottoms back on. At this point, Seto wasn’t sure what the blonde was registering and what he wasn’t. One thing he knew was that the blonde would not get better sleeping out here on a couch he couldn’t even stretch out comfortably on.
Seto snagged his elbow and pulled him up to his feet.
“Come on, Wheeler,” Seto growled.
Wheeler stumbled to his feet and into him, but he ignored it. He couldn’t find it in him to snap at the sick male since he was fading fast. He actually allowed the male to hang on to him as he walked them both to the bedrooms. While Wheeler had been sleeping earlier, Seto had scoped out the small apartment; it had been easy to distinguish which of the two bedrooms belonged to the teenager.
Wheeler leaned his head on his shoulder as he maneuvered them down the hall and into the room. Once inside, Seto pulled back the thick blanket he had Roland drop off earlier. He unlatched Wheeler’s arms from around him and Wheeler, almost as if sensing the bed, crawled down on it. Shivering, Wheeler curled into a ball and buried his head into his pillow. Taking pity on the mutt, Seto reached down and pulled the blanket up to his chest.
Seto stood up and left the room. He went into the only bathroom where he changed into more comfortable clothes for the evening. He knew better than to leave a sick pup all alone; not to mention, he would never hear the end of it from Motou.
Or Mokuba.
He went into the kitchen where he fixed something small to eat for himself. Wheeler, for the first time, had refused to eat something earlier. Seto made a mental note to set an alarm and, willing or not, shove something down Wheeler’s throat later. When he checked on Wheeler, he found the mutt with chattering teeth and arms wrapped around himself.
Even with the thick blanket, Wheeler wasn’t warm enough. The lotion had cooled now and brought some of his fever down, but still not enough. Against his better judgement, Seto threw the covers back and climbed in beside the blonde. He made Wheeler roll over and pulled him up against him. He let out an unmanly squeak when the blonde nuzzled a wet nose against his chest.
He swore colorfully in every language he knew while driving a hand into thick blonde hair to yank his head back. Wheeler whimpered like the mutt he was at the rough treatment. Seto growled, but turned on his side and pulled Wheeler around so he rested behind him. He tucked the shorter male up against him and smoothed an arm around his rival’s bare stomach.
After a few seconds, Wheeler’s teeth grew silent and the shivering diminished. He curled into the arm close to his face and fell into a restless sleep. Seto leaned his forehead against Wheeler’s back and sighed. It had been a long day and he was exhausted. He allowed the exhaustion to set in, falling asleep to the warmth of another body next to his.

“You’re joking?!”
Joey chuckled. He was sitting upstairs in the upstairs apartment above the Game Shop with Yugi and Yami.
“Nah. Kaiba stayed with me the whole time. ‘s why he wasn’t at school. Too busy takin’ care of me,” Joey replied, taking a sip of his soda.
Yami shook his head.
“I can’t imagine my cousin staying away from Mokuba for that long,” Yami pointed out.
“He didn’t. Kid came over a few hours the next day. Mokuba played a board game with me while Kaiba was on the phone. Wasn’t too bad actually. Kaiba helped me get bettah.”
Yugi and Yami exchanged a look before looking back at Joey.
“How exactly did he help you?”
Joey’s cheeks dusted pink before he ducked his head.
“He rubbed that pink stuff over muh dots. Made me lunch. Made sure I didn’t scratch. Nothing big. Probably would have gotten razzed by you guys or his brother if he just left me there alone.”
The two lovers agreed as they sat back and started a different topic. Joey hid a smile behind his Pepsi can.
Good thing they didn’t ask about bed time, Joey chuckled to himself.
