S is for Secret
“If I tell you a secret, you promise not to tell?”
“Sure.”
Giggle. “Seto likes Joey.”
Mokuba nearly choked on his drink. He hacked up a few coughs while putting down his glass. After he had stopped coughing and his eyes were watering, Mokuba spoke.
“What would make you think that?!” Mokuba gasped in a hoarse voice.
Serenity giggled again as she took a bite of her frozen yogurt.
“It’s so obvious, Mokuba. Haven’t you been able to tell with all the time Joey spends at the Manor?” Serenity asked.
Mokuba thought for a second before shaking his head. Things had not changed since the older males graduated high school. The only thing that changed was Joey was around more often. He had gone to culinary school and returned to open a restaurant after a few years. Now Serenity was co-owner and ran the restaurant while Joey worked as a private chef for the Kaiba’s.
“Seto doesn’t even date! If he’s not in meeting or visiting overseas, he’s at the Manor training or working on another project,” Mokuba explained.
Serenity rolled her eyes.
“Okay, then. What happened last week when you had that late class?” Serenity asked.
“Joey took Seto with him to the soup kitchen. They fixed up a meal with some teenager volunteers. Then Seto brought Joey back to his apartment on the way to pick me up,” Mokuba explained.
“Uh huh. What did Seto get Joey for his birthday?”
“A black chef’s jacket with his name embroidered on it.”
“Mm-hmm. And where was Seto when Joey opened the second restaurant?”
“He was…right beside Joey at the ribbon cutting.”
Mokuba put his spoon down as his head spun. Could Serenity be right? He thought of it all afternoon and to the evening. He sat quietly at his spot at the table, keeping a careful eye on his brother and Joey. He noticed a small smile – or was that a smirk? – on his brother’s face whenever Joey came by with a dish.
Could that be because Joey is wearing the chef jacket Big Brother got him, Mokuba pondered.
“You’re awful quiet tonight, kid.”
Mokuba looked up at Joey who was shooting him a concerned look. Mokuba shook his head.
“I’m fine, Joey. I’ve been thinking about a paper I’m writing for one of my classes,” Mokuba explained.
Joey smiled. “Okay, then. Let me know if you need help with it.”
A snort slipped out from the other end of the table. Seto’s head was down when Joey turned to glare at the top of it. Mokuba could barely make out the small smile hidden on his brother’s face. Joey bent his head down as he walked past the brunette.
“I heard that,” he growled.
Mokuba felt a great wave of confusion when Seto turned that smile towards Joey as he crossed around behind him. This was mind boggling. Serenity was rarely around when the two brothers were in the same room. How could she have known this when he hadn’t?!
“Did you enjoy your visit with Serenity?” Seto asked.
A still silently stunned Mokuba nodded.
“Um…yes. Yes, I did. She’s doing well. She wanted me to remind Joey that the new sous chef starts tomorrow,” Mokuba replied.
“Sis wanted you to remind me of what?” Joey asked, having only heard part of Mokuba’s words as he reentered the room.
“He says a new sous chef starts tomorrow,” Seto repeated.
Joey nodded.
“Oh yea. The new kid. I’ll make you two up a casserole tomorrow morning for dinner. All you’ll have to do is put it in the oven and pull it out when it’s done,” Joey explained.
“That’s fine. I’ll be working late tomorrow as well,” Seto commented.
“Well, you’re not tonight so guess who’s on dish duty with me,” Joey replied, grinning.
Seto raised an eyebrow.
“And if I refuse?”
“You know that special sandwich of mine, the one you like so much?” Slow nod. “If you want it for your lunch tomorrow, you might want to rethink that.”
Mokuba’s eyebrows shot up into his hairline when his brother was up and halfway to the kitchen in the blink of an eye. He shot Joey a shocked expression. The blond Chef winked at him before grabbing a plate and following behind Seto.
Mokuba waited a minute before snatching up his plate and sneaking over to the door leading to the kitchen. He slipped it open just enough so he could see his brother and Joey at the sink.
“You’re on wash and I’m on dry,” Joey told Seto.
“I was on wash last time, Joey,” Seto pointed out.
Joey chuckled. “You did, but paper beats rock. So you wash, Seto.”
Mokuba’s jaw dropped. He had never heard his brother and Joey address each other by their first names. It could be true! He listened in mild horror as the two exchanged more pleasantries. His brother even went so far as to ask about Joey’s day.
“After you two left for work, I cleaned up the kitchen and locked up. I met up with Serenity and she went over that new POS we have. You’d probably like it. Very high tech. All the bells and whistles attached,” Joey said, flashing a big grin at Seto.
Although his back was to Mokuba, the younger Kaiba knew Seto had rolled his eyes.
“Then you dropped her off to meet Mokuba?” Nod. “What did you do after that?”
“Grocery store. Picked up stuff to fill the pantry and prepare dinner tonight. How’d you like it? I know you’re not a big fan on seafood,” Joey said, shooting the brunette a sheepish look.
Mokuba thought it tasted okay. Seto seemed to agree as well. He told Joey it was another wonderful dish.
“Hey, kid! You gonna bring that plate in or what?” Joey called.
Mokuba nearly jumped out of his skin. He had forgotten Joey had Big Brother radar. He had surprised the younger brunette on more than one occasion with knowing where Mokuba was. Mokuba came the rest of the way in the kitchen with a shy grin on his face.
“You took your sweet time coming in,” Joey hinted.
Seto simply raised an eyebrow at him.
“I was…waiting for a text.”
It was a boldfaced lie and both big brothers looked like they didn’t believe it for a second, but neither one called him on it. Mokuba brought his plate over and assisted the two with the dishes. Seto washed, Joey dried, and Mokuba put the dishes away. After they were all done, Joey bid them a good night and left to return to his apartment.
“Hmm,” Seto said as he turned to head upstairs.
“What?” Mokuba asked.
“I need to program a reminder in my phone to give Joey his check tomorrow,” Seto replied.
Mokuba frowned at his back before jogging up the stairs to walk beside his brother.
“Doesn’t Joey have a direct deposit pay like our employees at Kaiba Corp?” Mokuba asked.
It was Seto’s turn to frown.
“I don’t pay Joey.”
Mokuba snagged his arm at the top of the stairs, jerking him to an abrupt stop.
“WHAT?!” he exclaimed.
“Don’t shout,” Seto warned.
Mokuba took in a deep breath and let it out.
“What do you mean you don’t pay Joey? He works Monday to Friday for us and in between co-running the restaurants. How could you not pay him?!” Mokuba demanded.
Seto held up a hand in defense.
“Because Joey doesn’t want to be paid.”
For the second – or was it third? – time that night, Mokuba’s jaw dropped.
“What? Why wouldn’t he want to be paid?”
“Mokuba, Joey makes a lot of money with his very successful restaurants. He cooks for us because he enjoys it. This kind of life makes him happy. Besides, whatever I pay him every month, he donates the check to a different organization under his and our names. Wheeler and Kaiba,” Seto explained.
Mokuba was astonished. He asked what kind of organizations. Seto named several like the Habitat for Humanity and School District. Mokuba asked what organization Joey had picked for this week. Seto smiled.
“The Orphanage Fund for Children.”

The next day, Mokuba worked from home. He spent all morning inputting data on his computer and looking over reports sent to him. After eating the lunch Joey had prepared for him, he spent the afternoon testing a game one of his teams was working on. He fell asleep later on the couch during the playing.
He was later shocked awake when a loud crack hit nearby outside. He jolted up from his sleep to find the heaves raining down heavily. Mokuba snatched up his phone and saw that the time read past eight. Mokuba ran to the window, looking out at the sky. It was pouring like no tomorrow, full with thunder and lightning.
His fingers flew across to his phone, immediately speed dialing his brother. It took two rings before he picked up.
“Yes, Mokuba?”
Mokuba’s body sagged in relief. He knew there was no way his brother would ever answer his phone while driving, let alone in the rain.
“Seto, where are you?” he asked.
“I’m at Joey’s apartment. Serenity borrowed his car and he needed a ride home from the restaurant,” Seto explained.
“Good. Stay there. It looks like it’ll rain all night,” Mokuba told him.
“Yes, I know. I checked the radar after we arrived and the downpour started.”
“Good. I don’t want you driving in this weather, Seto.”
Sigh. “I know, ‘kuba. Make sure to eat the dinner Joey prepared and I’ll see you in the morning.”
Mokuba smiled.
“Good night, Big Brother.”
“Good night, Mokuba.”
Seto ended the call and clicked the phone off. His brother wouldn’t disturb him for the rest of the night and the only other person would was lying face-down on a couch. He smiled as he walked back into the living room. He started unbuttoning his collared shirt as he approached the couch.
“Tell me again how the food fight in the kitchen started,” Seto said.
“Mmm hmm mpfh mmhm hgghmm mmm hmm pfftm,” Joey mumbled into the couch.
Seto chuckled as he slipped the shirt off and hung it over the back of the couch. He brought a hand down to rake through blonde hair. He smiled when he heard a pleasant sounding mumble. He sat down on the side of the couch beside Joey and reached out to squeeze the back of his neck. Joey turned his head towards him with a small, weak smile.
“Hey,” Joey murmured.
“Hey. How are you feeling?” Seto murmured back.
Joey rolled onto his side. He seemed to think about this for a moment before shooting Seto a mischievous smile spread across his face.
“Like a certain blue eyes dragon decided to try me out as a snack and decided I didn’t taste good,” Joey said.
For his humor, Joey got a pinch on his stomach and a mildly annoyed look. He chuckled as he rolled all the way onto his back.
“Jokes aside,” Seto warned.
Joey groaned.
“Muh back hurts all over. Don’t know how I didn’t pass out in the car,” Joey answered honestly.
Seto squeezed the hand closest to him.
“How does a hot shower, dinner, and massage sound?”
Seto knew he was right on the money when Joey closed his eyes and his body sagged further into the couch with a big sigh. Seto stood up, using his grip on Joey’s hand to slowly pull him up into a sitting position.
“Go take a hot shower. Stand under the showerhead for a few minutes with it directed at your back. While you do that, I will fix dinner,” Seto told him.
Joey scrunched up his nose like he had smelled something foul.
“Yer not gonna make that casserole surprise of yers, are you?”
That time he got a smart smack in the arm.
“One time. That was one time. You know Mokuba won’t let that go, either.”
“Can you blame the kid? He had an upset stomach and diarrhea for two days!”
/……/
After a relaxing hot shower and a delicious dinner, Joey was treated to an intense massage. He laid down on his stomach on a towel on his bed. With the thunder roaring outside and lightning flashing, Seto straddled Joey’s waist and massaged his back. He worked the knots and soreness out of the blonde’s back with careful yet strong hands.
They later lay in the center of the bed with Seto wrapped snug around Joey from behind. Joey’s arms were wrapped in and around Seto’s, keeping him locked into place. The brunette’s face was buried into the blonde’s neck, sending a small warmth tingling down the other’s back. An occasional nibble or kiss was placed on his neck as they lay there.
“So how much is the kid freaking out?” Joey mumbled.
“Very. I’m not sure what’s freaking him out more. The charity check you don’t get paid or the signs we’re showing of more than friendship,” Seto replied.
Joey chuckled. “Poor kid. We been dating over a year and he can’t see what’s right in front of him.”
Seto shifted as he licked and kissed along Joey’s neck until he was resting his head against Joey’s, cheek to cheek.
“That’s why we had your sister plant the seed. We’ll confess to him soon. Let him stew for a little bit,” Seto said.
Joey couldn’t stifle a giggle when a few kisses were tickled across his cheek.
“Setoooo.”
Seto dropped his head and nuzzled Joey’s neck, giving it a few small sharp nips. The giggle dissolved into a few deep groans.
“Seeeeeeet,” Joey whined.
“Give me one good reason why I should stop. I’ve taken off for tomorrow and Mokuba can make his own meals,” Seto told him.
Pause. “Not in the mood?”
Joey released an obscenely deep groan when a hand reached down to grasp his hard member.
“Try again.”
“Neighbors might hear?”
C-C-CRACK! BOOM! RUMBLE RUMBLE.
“Out of lube?”
Pop.
Pause. “It’s going to be a long night, ain’t it?”
Nip. Suck. “Hope you weren’t counting on actually getting any sleep tonight.”
