Blindsided

            Joey felt terrible about being so harsh with Seto. He knew he would have probably
handled the situation differently if he had been sober. Talking shit was his specialty, especially
after a couple of beers. Walking was another story though. Joey had consumed quite a large
amount alcohol, and his equilibrium was a bit off-kilter. He accidently tripped over his shoe lace
and fell forward into a person standing on the street corner. The person turned around quickly
and clenched his fists.
“Watch where you’re going geek!” he hissed.
Joey picked himself up and dusted off his jeans. He looked up and realized he fallen right into
Bandit Keith.
“Sorry, jeez Keith....you don’t gotta go all ape on me. I didn’t trip on purpose you know.”
Keith raised an eye brow and glanced around his circle of fellow thugs.
“Excuse me? You better watch your mouth, or I just may have to pummel the shit out of you
tonight.”
Joey rolled his eyes.
“Whatever” he scoffed as he started walking away.
Keith quickly reached out and grabbed Joey by the hair. He yanked him back violently and threw
him to the hard pavement.
One of Keith’s thug buddies hurled himself on top of Joey and started punching him in the face.
Joey didn’t even have time to think. All he knew was that he couldn’t move and he was getting
punched in the face repeatedly. There was nothing he could do about it either. Keith and his
goons had pinned down his arms and legs. Joey’s face felt raw from the continuous fury of fists
coming at him. He tried to call for help, but nobody came. With one last crushing punch, Keith
knocked Joey out cold.

            Ryou noticed that the door to Bakura’s soul room was open just a crack. He slowly
pushed it open and called out his yami’s name into the darkness.
“Bakura? Are you in here?”
An eerie silence was all that answered him as he stepped through the door.
“Ali-ali-oxen-free!* I give up! Where are you Bakura?” Ryou called out into Bakura’s empty
soul room.
“Well where can he be?” Ryou ask himself as he stepped back out. He suddenly felt a dark
presence behind him. Before he could as much as blink, a cold, ghostly hand reached out from
behind him and grabbed his shoulder.
“BOO” Bakura smirked.
Ryou let out an ear piercing shriek and grabbed his chest.
Bakura crossed his arms and chuckled as he looked over his naked hikari.
“Forget something?”
Ryou turned around quickly and glared at his yami.
“No Bakura, and that wasn’t funny, you scared the hell out of me!”
“Don’t worry, I can put it back in.” Bakura grinned evilly.
Ryou rolled his eyes. He pulled himself together and shook off his little scare.
“You bastard, if I had a shovel right now I’d wack you over the head with it. That isn’t the case
though, I need to have a word with you.”
Bakura raised his eyebrows.
“So speak your piece, I’m all ears.”
Ryou brushed his bangs out of his eyes and glared at Bakura.
“For starters, were you just in my soul room? I know you weren’t in yours, because I was just in
there.”
Bakura scratched his head and grinned.
“Yes, I was actually. I didn’t think you would mind.”
It was impossible to overlook the disappointment in Ryou’s chocolate brown eyes. Bakura
reached out with his hand and cupped Ryou’s chin.
“I take it you do mind?”
Ryou nodded his head sharply.
“Yes, I do!”
Bakura lightly traced Ryou’s jaw line with his long, masculine fingers and smiled.
“Follow me, hikari he he purred almost inaudibly.
Ryou followed to the door of his soul room and stopped.
“Bakura?”
Bakura turned around and looked at Ryou.
“Yes?”
Ryou stared nervously into Bakura’s menacing eyes. Even when Bakura wasn’t up to no good,
he still looked like he was because of his eyes. Ryou could never be sure what his yami was
scheming.
“Is anything going to jump out and scare me to death if I follow you into my soul room? “
Bakura grinned evilly and shrugged his shoulders.
“Possibly, but you won’t know for sure unless you go inside.”
Ryou groaned loudly as he opened the door to his soul room.
“I must be an idiot.”
Bakura snickered at Ryou as he followed him inside the soul room. A bright light blinded them
both for a short time, but their eyes quickly adjusted. Ryou stood in front of Bakura with a look
of utter shock on his face. Bakura obviously had something besides scaring Ryou on his mind,
the piles of haphazardly stacked books told another story.
Ryou looked back at Bakura and held up his hand.
“What’s the meaning of this?”
Bakura leaned down and picked up one of the books from the floor and held it for Ryou to see.
“I was reading”
Ryou glanced at the title of the book and cocked his head.
“I don’t understand, why are you reading books about ancient Sumeria?”
Bakura handed Ryou the book and leaned back against the door frame.
“Is there a law that says I can’t?”
Ryou opened the book and started paging through it. He looked up at Bakura and rolled his eyes.
“No, of course not. I’m just curious as to why you’ve developed this sudden fascination with the
Sumerian’s. Does this have something to do with those gravestones you and Marik found out in
the desert?”
Bakura nodded his head.
“Yes, exactly. I’m curious as to what they were doing so far south in Egypt.”
Ryou shrugged his shoulders as he placed the book on a shelf.
“Mesopotamia was next to Egypt, so maybe they were lost.”
Bakura crossed his arms and stared at the floor.
“That’s possible.”
Ryou put his hands on his hips and looked up at Bakura expectantly.
“Now for my real purpose of this visit.” he stated firmly. “I want to thank you for this lovely
sunburn. What the hell were you thinking, yami? Don’t you know the dangers of direct exposure
to UV rays from the sun? I don’t appreciate your stupidity one bit!”
Bakura sighed after Ryou finished his little speech. He looked down at his hikari and cupped his
cheek.
“Let me kiss it and make it all better.”
Ryou groaned as Bakura leaned over and nipped at his jaw right below his ear.
Bakura slowly worked his way around Ryou’s neck, feathering greedy kisses along Ryou’s soft
skin.
“Mmm..You taste divine” Bakura purred hungrily.
Ryou tilted his head to the side and sighed.
“Bakura, I didn’t come in here to play your sex games.”
Bakura placed his one of his hands on Ryou’s shoulder and the other on the small of Ryou’s
back. He pulled their bodies close together and captured Ryou’s soft, red lips in a covetous kiss.
Ryou moaned lightly as Bakura’s tongue slid across his own. He wrapped his arms around
Bakura’s neck and feasted on his yami’s warm mouth. Bakura ran his hands down to Ryou’s
backside and cleverly hoisted him up. Ryou’s wrapped his legs around his yami tightly. Bakura
pulled away from their kiss and nuzzled Ryou’s cheek with his own.
“If this is a sex game, I get to set the rules. First rule- no clothing allowed.”
Ryou chuckled as he glanced down. He ha82178217;t bothered dressing up for this visit, but Bakura had
on a pair of midnight blue stonewashed jeans. Ryou let out a little chuckle.
“What happens if one of us breaks your rule?”
Bakura pressed Ryou against the wall and nipped at his shoulder, breaking the skin just enough
that traces of blood pooled at it’s surface.
“They will be punished” he laughed evilly, knowing he was the only one breaking his rule.
Ryou ran his fingers through Bakura’s spiky white hair and chuckled.
“Do I get to choose the punishment?”
Bakura nodded slowly as he lowered them both to the floor. He kneeled in front of Ryou and
brushed his hikari’s hair out of his eyes.
“It’s your soul room, you make the decisions here.”
Ryou wasted no time and pushed Bakura onto the floor flat on his back. He straddled his yami’s
hips and grinned.
“Hmm...Let me think......”
Bakura bit down on his bottom lip and stared up at Ryou expectantly.
Ryou suddenly jumped up and snapped his fingers.
“I got it!
Ryou reached out for Bakura’s hand and helped him to his feet. He quickly covered Bakura’s
eyes with his hands.
“Where are we going, hikari?” Bakura ask curiously as Ryou started leading him somewhere.
“You’ll see” Ryou replied. His voice held a mischievous overtone.
Bakura’s body shivered with anticipation.

            Joey slowly started regaining consciousness. His head throbbed, and his body ached with
immense pain. The coppery taste of his own blood lingered in his mouth.
“Where.......am I?” He moaned as he opened his eyes and looked around. His surroundings were
vaguely familiar. He was in a bed, that much he knew for sure. He didn’t feel scared or
threatened, in fact he felt at ease. Something about the room gave him a sense of peace.
“Joey? Are you awake” a familiar, caring voice ask softly.
Joey recognized the voice. It was the voice of his former lover Yugi Motou.
“Yugi? What happened? Why am I here?” Joey ask curiously as he turned his head.
Yugi gently dabbed Joey’s bruised forehead with a cool washcloth.
“Yami brought you here after he stopped Bandit Keith and his jerk friends from beating the crap
out of you.”
Joey closed his eyes and recalled the brutal beating he’d received the night prior from Bandit
Keith and his gang of thugs.
“Those bastards jumped me from behind! Next time I see Keith I’m going to rip his beady little
eyes out!” he growled angrily.
Yugi gently brushed Joey’s bangs out of his eyes and smiled.
“I’m glad to see you’re okay. I was starting to get worried that you weren’t going to wake up.”
Joey chuckled lightly and grinned.
“Of course I’m okay, it’s takes more than an ass-whupping to keep Joey Wheeler down”
Yugi nodded his head.
“I know Joey, but I was worried. Even though you’re with Kaiba now, I wasn’t going to just
leave them kick your butt senseless. I still care about you.”
Joey suddenly sat up and looked at Yugi’s alarm, clock.
“Kaiba! Shit! It’s already 11 o’clock? He’s gonna kill me for not coming home last night!”
Yugi bit down on his bottom lip and looked away as Joey jumped out of his bed. Yami had
removed Joey’s torn clothing after he’d laid him in bed, and he was now standing in front of
Yugi in all his naked glory.
“Uh...Yugi? Where’s my clothes?” Joey ask curiously as he grabbed the blanket off the bed and
covered himself.
Yugi looked back at Joey and sighed.
“I couldn’t salvage your shirt, it was ripped up and stained pretty bad. I did manage to get the
blood stains out of your jeans though. I’ve gotm inm in the dryer downstairs, but they won’t be
dry for at least a half hour yet.”
Joey sat down on the edge of Yugi’s bed and groaned.
“Mind if I use your phone? I really should call Kaiba and let him know what happened.”
Yugi nodded his head.
“Sure, I’ll go get it for you.”
Yugi left the room, leaving Joey by himself. He got up from the bed and walked over to a full
length mirror hanging on the wall. Both of his eyes were surrounded by reddish-blue bruises, and
his bottom lip was still bleeding. A deep gash above his right eyebrow still had specks of blood
oozing through the inflicted area. He touched his nose and breathed a sigh of relief when he
realized it hadn’t been broken. He slowly let the blanket covering his body fall to his feet,
revealing even more cuts and bruises Joey winced as he touched a particularly sensitive area on
his shoulder.
“Crap.......this sucks” he groaned as he looked over his bruised reflection in the mirror.
“Here’s the phone Jo....*gulp* ....ey” Yugi gasp as he re-entered his room. He quickly turned his
head.
Joey picked up the blankey and wrapped it around himself once again as he walked over to
Yugi’s bed.
Yugi handed him the phone and started walkiut tut the door.
“I’ll have to remember to knock next time” he laughed nervously.
Joey set the phone down on the bed next to him and sighed.
“Yugi...wait.”
Yugi stopped and glanced back at Joey.
“Yes?”
Joey patted a spot in the bed next to him and smiled.
“Come here, I want to talk to you.”
Yugi walked back into the room and gingerly sat in the spot Joey had motioned. He looked up at
his former lover expectantly with wide, violet eyes.
Joey folded his hands and nervously twiddled his thumbs.
“Uh....Yugi? Thanks for takin’ care of me. I really appreciate it.”
Yugi smiled politely and nodded his head.
“We’re friends......right? Friends always take care of each other.”
Joey nodded his head.
“Yeah, they do. But I haven’t been much of a good friend to you lately, in fact, I think this is the
first time I’ve talked to you in over six months. I’m just a little surprised you still consider me
your friend.”
Yugi coyly reached over and put his hand over’s Joey’s hands.
“Even though we’re not....um.....together anymore.....I still think of you as my best friend. If it
wasn’t for you I probably would have lost my mind.”
Joey smiled as ove ove his fingers around Yugi’s.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t want to talk to me now that I’m with Kaiba. I know the two of you
don’t get along, so I kinda figured you hated me after the way things went.”
Tears suddenly appeared in Yugi’s eyes as he looked at Joey’s bruised face. He squeezed Joey’s
hand and smiled.
“I could never hate you Joey, you mean too muo meo me. I know that your future is with Kaiba,
and I don’t want to get between the two of you, but we’ve been through so much together over
the years . Our bond goes beyond friendship, and nothing can change that.”
Joey nodded his head.
“I’m glad you feel that way, Yugi. Because I’ve feel the same way.”
Yugi reached up and brought Joey into a gentle hug. Joey felt a warm tear trickle down his
bruised cheek as he held Yugi in his arms. Without thinking, Joey closed his eyes and brushed
his lips lightly across Yugi’s.
Yugi moaned softly as he pulled Joey’s closer.
“Mmm....Joey....”
Joey’s began to tremble as the warm sensation of Yugi’s tongue filled his mouth. Yugi still
tasted the same as he did so many months prior: bittersweet.
“Yugi......we have..to....stop this....I’m.....with....Kaiba” he moaned.
Joey’s words made it sound like he wanted to stop what they were doing, but his body reacted
otherwise. He wrapped his arms around Yugi tightly, pressing their bodies tightly together.
Old feelings began to resurface for his former lover, causing him to forget about Seto
temporarily.
“Joey” Yugi whimpered lightly as he found himself being lowered down onto his back.
