BITTER LOVE
~*~
Anzu folded the futon. There was no use for that anymore, Ryou was gone, there was no longer someone to share it with.
It’s barely been ten minutes and I already miss him. She wrapped her arms around herself and stared blankly at the couch.
Bakura better keep his promise! She sighed and started tediously picking up the comforters from the floor. Bakura and Ryou had made quite the mess in their little squabble. The coffee table was knocked over, the vase and several other valuable items that had been on it now scattered on the floor in shattered pieces.
She went into the kitchen to retrieve the broom. She didn’t exactly feel like cleaning up the mess, but she figured she should get it over with, not to mention distract herself in the meantime.
It’s best I keep myself busy and not think about…..She shook her head. Come on! Pull yourself together.
She forced a smile and started on the sweeping. She had a feeling it was going to be a long night.
“ Damn it,” Bakura cursed, stopping in his tracks. Ryou blinked and stopped beside him several seconds later.
“ What’s wrong?” Ryou looked around to see what the problem was, only to find an empty sidewalk ahead of them.
Ryou squinted when a drop of rain hit him right between the eyes. Ite! He rubbed at the spot, before looking up into the sky.
“ It’s going to rain!” He cried.
Bakura grunted. “ What gave you that idea?” And with a low mutter that Ryou did not catch, “ Baka,”
Ryou threw his arms over his head to shield himself once the rain started descending at a quicker pace from a light sprinkle to a thunderstorm.
Ryou’s shoulders bundled up when a loud crackle of thunder illuminated the sky with a deep rumble. I-I hate lightening!
Bakura grabbed Ryou’s arm. “ We don‘t have time to waste, let‘s go,” Ryou nodded and quickly followed him till the familiar two-story houses came into view.
Before Bakura could go any further up the path leading to Anzu’s front door, Ryou stopped him with a weak grip on his right forearm.
“ M-Maybe you should wait here….” Ryou explained quietly.
Bakura scowled. “ I wait for no-one,” He shook off his hikari’s hand and continued up the stone path.
Ryou sighed. He never learns. He jogged after him, stopping under the safety of the canopy above the door.
Ryou moved out his hand to ring the doorbell, only to stop when Bakura gave a brutal kick to the door, breaking the lock on the door.
Ryou gasped. “ You broke her door!” The door swung open with a squeak. There was a rather noticeable dent in the middle of the door where Bakura had kicked it.
Bakura gave a careless shrug, expression solemn. “ It got the damn thing open didn’t it?”
“ You could have waited till she opened the door!” Ryou cried, hiding his face in his hands with a miserable groan.
“ Just get inside already,” Bakura snapped, pushing Ryou inside before letting himself in and slamming the door behind him.
Ryou jumped a little, before gaining his wits and looking back at Bakura who was standing behind him, looking around the house for Anzu as well.
“ She might be in her room upstairs,” Ryou suggested in a soft whisper. Bakura grinned.
“ Then what are we waiting for?” Ryou blinked, before quickly following after him up the stairs and to the second floor. He just hoped Anzu wouldn’t think they were a bunch of burglars and try to kill them.
Bakura smirked. This was too easy. He was a master of stealth. After all he was once an expert thief five thousand years ago in Egypt. He stole everything and always got away with it.
The door Ryou had pointed out to be Anzu’s was cracked a good two inches, enough to peek inside and get a good view.
Still looking into the crack, Bakura ushered Ryou over. Ryou quietly stepped behind Bakura, trying to look inside the room as well.
In the process Ryou tripped over Bakura’s foot that was slightly extended behind him.
“ GAH!”
Bakura winced when Ryou fell to the floor with a loud thud. There went their cover!
“ Look what you did!” Bakura hissed. “ You ruined the plan!”
Ryou groaned from the floor, his face buried in the carpet. Rug burn….….ite! “ I-I just tripped!” He defended.
Bakura looked away and snuck a peek back inside Anzu’s room. Shimatta! She wasn’t in her bed anymore!
Before he could take a longer look around the room from his minimal view the door flew open, only to come hurling back into his face, smacking him squarely on the nose.
Bakura stumbled back, his hands impulsively covering his bloody nose. He glared at Anzu who looked shaken-up. “ B-Bakura!? What are you doing here?” She demanded, barely making out the tomb robber’s features with his hands covering most of his face.
“ You broke my nose!” He roared, uncovering his nose to look at the blood smeared on his palms. Damn it! That hurt!
“ I thought you were a burglar!” She cried. “ What was I suppose to do? Shake your hand and welcome you in my room!?”
Bakura smirked despite the pain from the blow, swiping a hand under his nose to wipe off some of the blood. “ That wouldn’t have been a bad idea,”
“ I was being sarcastic!” She shouted.
“ H-Hey Anzu,” Ryou weakly waved at her from his fallen spot on the floor. Anzu stared wide-eyed at him.
“ R-Ryou!? Oh my God, are you okay!?” She rushed to his side, kneeling down to make sure he wasn’t badly injured.
Bakura gritted his teeth. She practically beat the hell out of his face and she didn’t even ask if he was okay!?
“ The idiot tripped,” Bakura explained in a raspy mutter. Anzu kept a good grip on Ryou’s side after lifting him from the ground.
“ Let’s go to my room, so I can fix that little cut, okay?” Anzu said, smiling at Ryou who just blushed and bowed his head while obediently following her into her room.
Anzu stopped at the doorway, turning to glare sharply at Bakura. “ Well? Are you going to just stand there or are you going to let me clean you up?”
Bakura scoffed but reluctantly strode into her room after them, finding a spot on her bed.
Anzu led Ryou into the bathroom where she nursed the rug-burn on his face.
“ I-I also hurt my arm.….” Ryou said, extending his arm and pointing at the scratch. Anzu smiled and held in a laugh. Sometimes Ryou was just too cute!
Bakura glowered from across the room. A scratch, hah! He was the one who needed some medical attention here! He found a spot on the wall to glare at while Anzu patched up Ryou’s wounds. If you could call them that.
Bakura swayed a bit on the bed, lightheaded and dizzy. “ What the hell’s wrong with me?” He cursed, pressing a hand to his forehead.
Too much blood loss.…..
Not too long after he realized this, he passed out on Anzu’s bed, faintly aware of Anzu and Ryou rushing to his side from the bathroom after seeing him knock unconscious.
Damn it…..it’s…….all…..her fault……With that last thought, Bakura was surrounded in darkness.
Bakura shot up in bed, only to have something push him back down. When he realized it was Anzu, he shoved her hand away from him.
“ Don’t touch me!” He barked with a furious glare. It was her fault he’d passed out.
She sighed, giving a shake of her head. “ Ryou said you’d be like this when you woke up,”
“ How long?” He demanded.
“ How long what?”
“ Have I been unconscious!”
“ Just a little over an hour. Now lay back down,” He put a hand over his nose.
“ Don’t worry,” She said. “ It’s not broken and the bleeding already stopped,”
“ If it didn’t, I would have sent you to the Shadow Realm,” He threatened, his eyes thinning into slim slits.
She swallowed nervously and looked away. “ Well aren’t you ungrateful. I had to clean all that blood up you know,” She informed, oddly quiet.
He snorted. “ Good! You did this to me!” He reminded.
“ You know…when you’re not a total jerk, you act like a spoiled little brat,”
“ I’m not spoiled you wench!” He spat, enraged. How dare she degrade him after what she did to him!
She ignored the comment, and looked out the window in her room. “ Ryou said you were the one who decided to come back.”
“ And I regret it already,” He muttered bitterly.
Anzu smiled. “ I’m sorry. But it’s your fault for breaking into my house like that!”
“ I don’t need your damn apologies,” He hissed, looking away and avoiding meeting her eyes.
She pressed a hand on his shoulder, a little hesitant when he stiffened and angrily shot her a glare.
It’s not like I haven’t faced worse. She thought with a small smile. If I can deal with Kaiba, Bakura should be a synch!
“ What are you looking at?!” He demanded.
She smiled. “ Ryou also told me…..about how you agreed to….” She felt embarrassed to say it in front of Bakura of all people. There was something intimidating about him. Maybe all that knowledge he had from five thousand years ago when he was a thief.
“ I agreed to nothing,” He snapped. “ However,” She squeaked when he suddenly sat up and pulled her roughly against him.
“ That doesn’t mean you still don’t belong to me,” He whispered, smirking against her ear.
Anzu pulled back, shocked. One minute he hated her guts, and the next he was being seductive?
“ So that’s why you marked me!?” She screeched. Bakura smirked, unaffected by the loud noise.
“ I take what I want. No questions,” He eyed her with an intense look. “ And I always get what I want,”
“ What about Ryou? I thought---”
“ Nothing’s changed, he still belongs to me.”
She shifted under the heavy weight of his eyes. “ Then why bother with me? I thought you hated me? Even Ryou thinks---”
Bakura shut his eyes, casually leaning against the headrest. “ Like I said, what I do is purely instinct. I wanted you, and now I have you.”
He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her toward him till she fell on top of his slightly seated body.
“ And just like Ryou, you’re mine, and that means no-one can touch you,”
Anzu shivered inwardly. He could be such an intimate person when he wanted to be, a little possessive, but that didn’t overlook his bond with those close to him.
Shouldn’t I hate him? He hurt my best friend, Ryou. Did someone like him really deserve second chances?
Ryou even gave him a second chance. More than that. He gave him too many chances. But I guess that shows how much Ryou loves Bakura.
She unconsciously laid her head on Bakura’s chest, sighing loudly. It was so confusing. She loved Ryou, no question, and she wanted nothing more than to be with him, and yet here was Bakura, someone who looked scarcely similar to Ryou.
Every time she looked at him it was like looking at Ryou, but instead of the soft brown eyes and tender smiles, all Bakura could give were scowls and glares.
I guess he does try. Why else would Ryou have dated him in the first place?
Bakura looked silently down at her. This was the first time she was in his arms willingly. She looked frustrated, like she was trying to figure something out, maybe even debating.
Ryou walked into the room with a tray. He paused at the doorway when he noticed, in shock and surprise, how comfortable the two seemed, but he walked in nonetheless, breaking the moment between Anzu and Bakura.
Anzu jumped away from Bakura and moved to the edge of the bed. Bakura eyed the tray in Ryou’s hands, looking at the three cups and plates cluttered on it. It was a surprise Ryou seemed to have no difficulty carrying it.
Ryou set it on the nightstand by Anzu’s bed, smiling at the two. “ I made some tea and sandwiches,” He offered.
Anzu brightened considerably. “ You didn’t have to Ryou,” She looked over the sandwiches and steaming cups of tea.
“ Wow, it looks really good,” Ryou blushed, barely managing a “ Thank you,” to her compliment.
“ I don’t drink tea,” Bakura informed bluntly. “ And I hate sandwiches.”
“ Oh,” Ryou frowned slightly, only to blink when Anzu patted his back from behind him with an encouraging smile.
“ I think you did a great job, Ryou. I could never make sandwiches this good,”
Ryou smiled brightly, immediately forgetting Bakura’s rather rude opinion of his choice of tea and sandwiches.
She took her own plate, sat back on the bed, placed the plate in her lap, and started to eat the halves of sandwiches Ryou had neatly cut up into rectangular shapes.
Bakura sighed. He wasn’t in the mood for food, surprisingly. Crossing his arms over his chest while shutting his eyes, he relaxed to his best ability.
Ryou looked away from Bakura. He hated not seeing him eat, normally when he wasn’t hungry it meant something was troubling him.
He bit his lip, staring blankly at the tray on the nightstand. Does he feel pressured? About what I asked? He doesn’t really intend to let me have Anzu too does he?
He shook his head. I have to think positive. Maybe Bakura won’t make me choose either? Maybe there’s still hope for the three of us!
But even though his thoughts were confident, he felt none of the determination, eyes drooping in defeat. It was impossible to believe the three of them could have a steady relationship together. Sooner or later Bakura and Anzu would drive each other mad and try to kill the other!
Well, not Anzu, she wasn’t capable of physically hurting someone. But Bakura…..
Ryou absently rubbed the bruise, hidden by the cuff of his shirts collar. Bakura was very much capable.
“ Ryou? You feeling okay?” Anzu had abandoned her plate on the foot of the bed to go stand beside Ryou and place a concerned hand on his shoulder. He looked drained and frustrated all at once.
“ Just tired,” He replied, trying his best to force a smile, one that Anzu would be tricked by.
Bakura scoffed from his place on Anzu’s bed. He could see right through Ryou, he knew him long enough to know when something was bothering the boy.
“ Quit lying and just say it,” Bakura ordered. Ryou looked sharply at his yami with minimal shock. Was he that obvious?
Ryou bit his lip, not wanting to confess in front of the both of them, let alone Anzu who had a more emotional effect on him. Maybe it was because she treated him with such an unconditional love, one Bakura was incapable of giving, that he felt pulled toward her like a magnet.
She was his strength, someone who would always look out for him like a good friend and even as a mother-figure, one he never had as a small boy.
He swallowed the thick lump in his throat that only seemed to get bigger. “ It’s nothing,” He lied, keeping his eyes on the tray. “ I’m just tired,” He repeated.
Anzu frowned, something was up and she wanted to know.
“ Whatever it is, Ryou,” Anzu squeezed his shoulder, trying to stir him out of the daze he’d gone in. “ Whatever it is,” She repeated. “ You can’t keep in bottled forever. That’s why I’m here. That’s what friends do, remember?”
She offered a warm smile. “ That’s what I’m here for, okay?”
Bakura looked away from the scene. How pitiful. It was almost too pathetic to even bear watching. It was like a stupid soap opera. Too much romance, not enough violence and gore.
“ That’s what we’re here for,” Anzu said, louder, catching Bakura’s attention.
“ We?” Ryou breathed, finally looking her in the eye. She nodded. “ That’s right, me and Bakura,”
Bakura scoffed. Great, now she was involving him in all this? She knew very well he was not an expert in this department.
Ryou looked at Bakura, as though for confirmation. Bakura stiffened. “ What?” He snapped.
Anzu glared at him, mouthing something he couldn’t quite discern as he barely got half of it.
What about the wrong answer? So now she was trying to tell him how to answer? Hah!
He laughed inwardly at the chance of her controlling him entirely. Bakura looked away from the both of them with a foul expression.
Anzu sighed. Can’t he be a little more sensitive? She slipped her hand in Ryou’s and led the confused boy out of the room, leaving Bakura by himself.
“ Anzu?” Ryou asked curiously, letting her guide him into the hall. She made sure they were far enough from her room where Bakura was before she felt comfortable enough to ask him something important.
“ Why did you come back?”
Ryou flushed, quickly looking to the side in hopes of hiding it. “ I-I didn’t want to lose you……just to be with Bakura….”
“ What about Bakura?” She asked.
“ I want to be with him too but….I don’t know!” He cried, moving his hands around his head. “ I just can’t take all this Anzu….it’s too much for me,”
“ Shh,” She quickly wrapped him in her arms, absently running her hand through his long white hair. Ryou cried into her chest, clinging tightly to her waist with his face buried in her shirt.
“ I don’t want to lose either of you!” He sobbed.
Anzu sighed. Why did it all come down to this? To put so much on Ryou’s shoulders? He didn’t deserve this, all these problems, he didn’t deserve to be the one to have to carry all that weight on his shoulders.
“ We’ll figure something out, I promise,”
Bakura turned away from the crack in the door. Ryou had made it clear he didn’t want to choose. He didn’t want to risk losing him or Anzu.
He gritted his teeth, looking angrily at the floor. It was his fault too, for coming back just to make his hikari happy.
His intentions were from the start, to just come and get Ryou back from that little wench. Why was everything so messed up now? Now he’d come back with the intentions of getting Anzu as well.
He punched the wall nearest him, which happened to have a mirror hanging from it, causing it to fall and shatter to the floor in pieces.
None of this made any sense. He shouldn’t pity his hikari. It was all about what he wanted, not Ryou. Him. But wasn’t that also why he came back? To get Anzu? For himself?
I came back………Bakura thought, lowering his bruised fist from the wall. To get her for us. The both of us…
He’d always wanted to defeat the simpleton Pharaoh in one-way or another, and bedding his wench had always proved to be a good idea.
He found himself smirking. Not only will I take something precious from the Pharaoh, but I’ll be getting something quite valuable in return. He licked his lips unconsciously. Anzu was an eye-catching specimen.
It seemed he was getting everything he’d always wanted. Ryou, beating the Pharaoh, and now he had Anzu.
No sooner did Anzu and Ryou come rushing in the room to see what all the noise had been about.
“ My wall! The mirror!” Anzu screeched. “ What did you do to my room, Bakura!?” She demanded. Glass was everywhere!
Bakura smirked, catching both the girl and his hikari off guard. “ Our room,”
“ WHAT!?” She shouted. “ What do you mean our room!?”
“ That’s right,” Bakura smirked. “ Because from now on, my little hikari and I will be staying here,”
“ WHAT!?”
Sometimes Bakura wondered if that was all she could say.
A/N: Oh yeah! Another chapter done! And pretty fast I must say so myself! >o< And looky here, Bakura’s excuse to have Anzu is so he can “steal” something valuable of the Pharaoh’s. Hah!
Bakura: Are you implying I’m a liar!?
Anzu: Oh just admit it……then we can all rest in peace.
Ryou: I’m so glad! We get to live with you now, Anzu-chan!
Anzu: Speaking of that! Who died and made you boss Bakura!?
Bakura: Don’t ask questions. Besides…..*smirks* You won’t be complaining later.
Anzu/Ryou: What’s that supposed to mean!?
Bakura: If we’re sharing the same room, we’ll also be sharing the same bed. *devilish smirk*
Anzu: Gah!
Ryou: Share a bed with Anzu!? *blushes and gets a nosebleed*
Anzu: Well I guess I can’t complain……two really cute guys sleeping in the same bed with me! Whoa! This is way too cool! *squeals*
Bakura: Hmph….
Ryou: I can’t wait! Let’s go to bed right now! *cheers*
Anzu/Bakura: *anime-fall* UGH!
