Chapter
five
Seto’s
head hung low over his breakfast. He hadn’t slept much last night, thought
about damn Delilah. Why at all? But he could restart thinking or block her from
his mind. Blocking would be best to survive the day. The whole night he
couldn’t take his mind off those whys and hows and whats that concerned the
raven haired woman. He just hoped the day would bring him some distraction.
The
younger Kaiba sibling entered the kitchen with a smile and threw his school bag
on the ground. He got served hot milk, chocolate and toast. Noticing how his
brother was looking with all these dark circles under his eyes he wondered.
“Good
morning nii-sama!” His cheerful self would bring him further, he thought but
his brother only looked up with a tired expression.
“Morning
Mokuba.”
“What’s
wrong Seto?” He asked.
“What
makes you think something’s wrong?” He asked being actually a good liar but
with Mokuba things were different. He just knew him too well.
“All
the dark circles under your eyes Seto. C’mon tell me what’s on your mind. It
always helped me if I told you what’s bothering me. Maybe I can help you this
time.” Big grey eyes made Seto sigh.
“I
don’t think so.”
“Would
you die if you try?” His little brother cared for him more than he ever
deserved.
“Probably
not.”
Mokuba
gave him another reassuring smile. So the elder Kaiba brother began trying to
explain. Sure he couldn’t tell his little brother what exactly had happened but
he could spare a few parts and maybe change some facts and who knows, what had
Seto to lose?
“Do
you remember my secretary, Delilah Devlin?”
“Of
course, the tall dark haired, right?” Mokuba was all ears.
“Yes.
Well she quit working for Kaiba Corp. because she’s got an offer for a study in
Europe but she’s kind of irreplaceable in our company. I really needed her to
come back and stay at Kaiba’s but it seems like she doesn’t want. I kind of
didn’t treated her well, she said, and now she won’t come back. I tried
everything. Offered more money and really, I begged her to come back but she
refused telling me that I didn’t care about her and what she wants. Now Mokuba
what should I do?”
The
little raven haired boy scratched his head. “Hm… you really tried anything?”
Seto
nodded. “I’ve even tried to say sorry.”
“Und
you can’t find a replacement?”
Seto
shook his head. “Nope.”
“Well…
then maybe you should try something else. Something you haven’t done yet.”
“Easier
said than done. What would that be?” Seto was helpless.
“She
said you don’t care about her and what she wants? Then you should do exactly
that.”
“Care
about her and what she wants, huh?” Seto raised his eyebrows.
“Yes!”
Mokuba nodded happily. “Think about what she wants. If anyone then it’s you who
should know what that might be. And thinking about it would mean you care.” He
smiled.
His
big brother just sighed. Thinking again.
Delilah
and Soraya sat in a coffee shop at the airport. The young brunette sipped her
coffee and lit a cigarette. Inhaling it she tried to get her mind off her
ex-boss. It had all been a huge mistake. Soraya came up with the plan to trick
Kaiba and she did. She wanted to blow him his mind. Then she would leave until
he would beg her for forgiveness and want her to come back. But now everything
had changed. She didn’t want that. It wasn’t enough. What would happen if she
went back to him? He’d treat her the same as before, wouldn’t he? Maybe she
could have her own mind at times but all in all he would dominate their
relationship. Relationship wasn’t even describing it. Their sexual connection? Whatever.
“Are
you sure you want to do that?” Soraya asked her friend. “I mean, you’ve got
what you wanted, haven’t you? He begged you to come back, would pay more money
and you said it yourself, that you want him, need him.”
“Yes,
but I changed my mind. It’s not enough. He doesn’t care about me and what I
feel, what I want. He just wants his way and maybe on Christmas and birthdays I
shall have mine.” Sarcastically as usual she added. “No. No, I’m not his damn
whore who he can pay and call whenever he likes. No.”
Soraya
took a glance at her watch. “Time to go babe. Are you really sure you want to?”
Delilah
gave a funny but threatening glance. “Yes and if you ask me one more time, I
swear I’m gonna kill you!” She laughed and they headed off to check in.
Delilah
reached for her passport and shoved it across the reception. Receiving it back
with her flight ticket she put it in her bag and bowed.
“Delilah.”
Hearing her name she turned by instinct what she should regret. Standing behind
her was Seto Kaiba. “I need to talk to you for a minute.”
“You
won’t change my mind Seto.”
“And
I don’t intend to try making you. So will you listen to me?” Maybe he wasn’t
really able to look friendly but at least he tried. Delilah could see it. She
nodded and they went aside.
“What
do you want?”
“Well,
I’ve thought about what you said about me not caring about you and what you
want and maybe you’re right. At least the thing that I didn’t even think about
what you might want. I’m not really used to thinking about what other people
want. But I do care about you and therefore I tried.” He explained while he was
standing there like dead, no moves at all. “I’ve thought about you and what you
want and I came to a conclusion. I won’t tell you to stay. Instead I’m gonna
tell you to go. If that will make you happy you should do it. I realised that.
And believe me I want you happy, even if I stand back in this case.” He nodded
sadly. “So, let me tell you goodbye and wish you good luck. Maybe someday
you’ll come back here and remember me.” He tried a smile but failed miserably.
“Then we might meet somewhere. In an elevator or so. Uh, I’m not good at jokes.
Sorry.” Quite nervous he came to an end.
Delilah
couldn’t believe it. Was he actually apologizing? Was he caring? Was he
thinking about her? Was he really trying to make her happy? Was this really
damn cold hearted bastard Seto Kaiba?
“What
made you change your mind?” Spoken out the thought she almost regretted it.
Seto
seemed helpless and shrugged. “Don’t know. I kind of got this thing for you.”
He tried to smile but rather sad it was looking.
“You
know what?” She smiled at him. “If that’s really true what you said and you
don’t lie to me then I might at least admit that I’ve got this thing for you as
well.”
This
time his smile was better. “It’s true. I admit that.”
“Then
I won’t go.” She said and closed the gap between them kissing his lips softly.
Kaiba
raised his eyebrows and smiled, even happy looking. Then he frowned. “But you
shall be happy and you shouldn’t stay because of me. I meant what I said.” He
sighed deeply. “I’d be happy if you stay but only if you want to. Really want
to I mean.”
“I
really want to Mr. Kaiba. But I won’t go back working for you. Don’t fire the
blonde.” She grinned cheekily.
Seto
chuckled. “I’ve already done. Maybe I should go find some mid aged or maybe
even a guy.” He joked.
“A
guy? Well, you’re quite competitive. No, not a guy, Seto.” She played with his
collar.
“Right.
He’d fall for me in a second. Just like you did.” He smirked.
“Of
course.” She smirked back.
“So
have you two come to an agreement?” Soraya asked watching this whole thing. “I
need to go now.” She gave a smile to her friend.
“Oh
holy shit, I’ve totally forgotten. Will you be okay without me?”
“Yes,
sure, I’ll be fine. But be prepared when I come back!” She waved and headed
off.
“I
don’t get that.” Kaiba said.
“Um…
actually we were about to go on a visit to her family in Europe. I’ve got this
study there though but she wanted to help me settling, you know?”
“Uh,
okay. Can we go now?”
“Yeah,
where to?”
“Home.”
“Great.”
