smint45: Thank you, thank you! I just find this stuff flowing out the mind and onto the keyboardThe bed he was on felt like a floating cloud. Or, what he imagined a cloud would feel like. He let out a wide yawn before reaching a hand up to rub at his eyes. As he slowly sat up, Joey opened his eyes.
For the first time in forever, Joey’s vision was clear. He leaned back against the headboard before looking around the room he was in. He was on a large bed with thick covers and many pillows. The room he was in was huge! There were a couple of doors, two of which he believed led to a hall and bathroom. The third door was a pair of double glass doors in which Joey could just see a railing of a balcony. There was a desk and chair over in a corner of the room. A long dresser sat over near the balcony doors.“Does your back still hurt?”Joey jumped and his heart leapt up into his throat. His head jerked up and over to where the voice had come from. An unfamiliar female sat on top of the dresser with one word tucked up to her chest. He stared at her confused as he tried to shift the question through his mind. And then he had to think about what his answer was. The female was patient with waiting for his answer. She looped her arms around her leg and interlocked her fingers. She tilted her head to the side with an inquisitive look on her face.“I…um…I guess it’s okay. ‘s not as bad as I ‘member,” Joey mumbled. When he looked up, Joey jerked back in surprise. The woman was now standing next to the bed and very close to him. His hand flew up to his chest. That alone almost freaked him out, as he realized his chest was bare.“Geez, woman! You trying ta give me a heart attack or what?” Joey gasped. She chuckled before leaning back.“I would apologize, but I have nothing to be sorry about,” she teased.Joey shot her a mock glare. Suddenly, it occurred to Joey that he was in a room he didn’t recognize with a woman he didn’t know.“Who are you? And where am I?” Joey asked.Kya was surprised. The way Seto had written about the blonde had led her to believe that, upon waking, he would flip out. Or demand answers. At best, she was seeing curiosity and confusion. She smiled at him before sitting down beside him.“My name is Kya, Joey. As for where? You’re at my friend’s house.” She frowned. “Do you remember what happened to you?”Joey’s gaze darted downwards and to the side. He frowned as he racked his memories. Suddenly, everything started coming at him like rapid snapshots. The unexpected beating and the screaming. Him screaming.Stumbling down the sidewalk and collapsing on the bench. Someone shaking him.Comforting hands rubbing away the soreness from his muscles. Arms wrapping around him. The feeling of warmth and protection.Whispers of not wanting him to die. Soft licks and kisses. A……a…bite. On the neck!Joey’s eyes flew back up to Kya. His mouth opened and closed several times, but no words came out. Kya gestured for him to continue, but still nothing came out.Seto is going to rip me to shreds. I broke his boy-toy, Kya thought. She decided, for her own survival, to help the poor blonde out.“Take a deep breath and let it out.” He closed his mouth and did just that. “Good?” Nod. “Okay. Now I want you to use your inside voice and your nice words.”The tone in her voice reminded him of when someone talked to a young child after they had a temper tantrum. Oddly enough, he found it a smidge comforting.I think I’ve royally lost my damn marbles, Joey thought before speaking out loud.“He…your friend…he said he didn’t want to let me die. I…I don’t understand. He……he bit me. On the neck.”Kya nodded her head in confirmation. This didn’t settle his nerves any, but he continued.“I had a fever and my back…my back really hurt. He took care of me.”He looked down at his body. He should have looked a right mess with bruises galore and scratches decorated across his torso. All he found was a few fading scars. His hands weren’t bandaged anymore, either. Now Joey could have chalked up all his injuries as part of his imagination. But he could still recall the excruciating pain in his ribs and the metallic taste of blood in his mouth. His imagination was good, but it wasn’t that good!“He wasn’t human, was he?”Joey’s voice had been so quiet Kya swore she almost didn’t hear it.“No. He isn’t,” Kya replied.Joey turned to look at her with wide eyes.“What does that make me then?” Joey asked.Seto was clearly wrong about the blonde’s intelligence. Kya could see the gears shifting in his head.“It makes you a survivor,” Kya answered, truthfully.Joey gave her a dirty look.“You know that’s not what I meant,” he growled.Kya smirked before reaching up to tap him on the nose.“For now, that’s all I can tell you. My friend’s at work right now. He wants both of us to be here to talk with about things. I can only answer so many questions, Joey,” Kya told him.He blinked and she was gone. He looked around him before his eyes finally landed on her. She was now clear across the room and at one of the doors. His gasp caused her to turn around to face him.“You’re not human!”Kya chuckled. “That obvious, am I?”Joey just nodded. Kya opened the door and, without warning, a black blur shot through the door. The next thing Joey knew he had a mouthful of hair as a small, heavy body planted itself on his lap.“Joey, I’m so glad you’re okay! Big brother told me you’d be okay, but I had to make sure for myself. It’s going to be so great having you here!”If the black hair wasn’t a dead giveaway, the young voice certainly was. Joey’s face drained of all color as he gave Kya a startled look. He blinked again and now she was standing beside the bed again. She reached her arms up and plucked Mokuba off his lap. She placed him back down on his feet beside her.“ ‘kuba, you need to remember Joey just woke up,” Kya told him.The young boy threw his arms around Kya’s middle and smiled up at her.“I’m sorry, Kya. I was just so excited. He’s been asleep for five days and I was beginning to think big brother had lied,” Mokuba told her, jutting out his bottom lip in a small pout.Kya patted him on the head.“Now, ‘kuba, you know your brother only lies through his teeth when I ask him about-,” “No.”Kya and Mokuba both looked at Joey. He reached out to snag Mokuba by the arm and pulled him closer.“Please tell me you got another brother I haven’t met before,” Joey told him.Mokuba smiled and looked at Kya with a chuckle before bringing his gaze back to Joey.“Sorry, Joey. Seto’s my only brother.”Joey let go of his arm and flopped back down onto the bed with a groan. He threw an arm over his eyes while mumbling to himself. Mokuba jumped up onto the bed and Joey’s stomach, causing him to let out an oof sound. Mokuba waited until Joey lifted his arm to speak. He surprised the older male by slowly leaning down to wrap his arms around him in a warm hug.“I’m glad you’re okay, Joey. You really scared me. I thought you were dying,” Mokuba whispered in a sad, quiet voice.Joey immediately sat up with his arms around the youth. He patted his back for a moment before Mokuba sat back on his lap. Joey reached up to ruffle Mokuba’s hair.“Don’t worry, kiddo. I ain’t planning on going anywhere. Besides, who else would be here to drive your brother up the wall?” Joey said, giving him a weak chuckle.I recall Seto saying that once or twice in a letter. I wonder if he literally had him climbing the walls, Kya pondered.Just then a loud growling sound emitted from Joey’s stomach. His face turned a bright red. Mokuba hooked a leg over him and shot back up to his feet.“How about you take a shower and get some clean clothes on, Joey? There’s a closet connected to the bathroom,” Mokuba suggested.Joey scrunched up face while shifting his gaze between the two standing.“Ya tryin’ to tell me somethin’?” Joey asked.Kya and Mokuba shared a look before turning back to him.“You stink,” they chorused.Joey grumbled under his breath again before throwing the covers back and climbing to his feet. Suddenly, Mokuba and Kya broke out in laughter. Mokuba leaned hard against Kya who was trying to stay up on her feet. For a moment, Joey thought he may be naked, but the soft material covering him told him he was wearing boxers. However, as soon as he looked down, he realized why they were laughing. At that instant, there was no doubt in his mind that his so-called rescuer was Seto freaking Kaiba. Only Kaiba’s sick sense of humor would think to put him in a pair of boxers with paw prints and golden retriever puppies on them. After a minute or two of laughing (and noticing that Joey’s right eye was starting to twitch), the two stood up with big smiles on their faces. They were both bright pink in the face and tears glistening in their eyes, but they seemed much calmer.“Are you two done makin’ fun of me now?” Joey demanded. The two nodded. He walked past them to head towards the bathroom door. This turned out to be a very bad thing; because Mokuba and Kya fell over laughing even harder than before. It wasn’t until he was safely ensconced in the bathroom that he discovered what had caused the second bout of tears and laughter. On the back of the boxers was a picture of a ripped piece of boxers and the words Bite Me scrawled across the center. Savior or not, he was going to murder Kaiba. He waited until he couldn’t hear the laughter anymore to explore the confines of the bathroom. There was a long counter with a large window above it. There was a shower to one side and a bathtub to the other. A closet door revealed a full walk-in closet with a variety of clothes.Joey walked over to the shower and reached over to turn on the water. The water was frigid so he stood waiting for it to get warmer. As he waited, his gaze fell on the bathtub. His hands were wet.He was in water. Sitting on someone’s lap.A rough bite to his neck. Soothing circles on his stomach.Touching. Touching between his legs, under his boxers.“If I’m going to do that, I want you fully away of everything I’m doing.”Joey gasped. The last few days kept coming back to him in snippets. And now there was a new problem below that made him wince. Jerking the shower faucet to freezing cold, Joey ripped the boxers down and jumped into the shower.Joey’s teeth started chattering almost immediately, but the cold temperature helped his pride go down. After he was sure that it was safe, Joey turned the faucet back to hot. He found a bottle of soap and lathered his body up in suds. He found his mind drifting as he showered. It was quite obvious to him that Kaiba was a vampire. The biting at his neck and the liquid he thought had been saliva dripping down his neck was a dead giveaway. It unnerved him that the older youth had been using him as a blood donor while he lay dying in his limo. He thought that Kaiba might have changed him into a vampire, but too many things didn’t add up.While Joey showered in deep thought, Kya was walking around the house with a cell phone up to her ear.“Seto, I know your pale white ass is there. Pick up the phone,” Kya growled.Click. “I’m busy. What do you want?”“He’s awake.”There was a noticeable pause on the other side of the line.“Did you tell him?”Kya rolled her eyes. Then an evil little smirk appeared on her face.“Well, of course I did! I told him every little detail. He should be arriving any minute now to strangle the life out of you. Or ride you all day long. I forgot which one he said. His face was such a lovely shade of red.”“…you’re a bitch, Kya.”Kya laughed.“You say the sweetest things, my dear ass.”A sigh came through from the other side.“Are you telling me in your own special little way that Wheeler is having a meltdown?”“If he is, he’s doing it in the shower. I can go check if you’d like me to find out,” Kya suggested.Kya was certain she heard something snap. She wondered if it was a simple pen or something more expensive.“Don’t. You. Dare,” Seto warned her.Kya chuckled. She would have to talk to Seto later about his possessiveness.“Relax, dragon. I’m not going to touch any of the merchandise. But you might want to get home early today. He’s bound to have questions and I’ll be damned if I’m the only one answering them,” Kya told him.She could practically hear the male rolling his eyes.“I’ll be home at two. Don’t destroy the house.”“I make no promises, Seto.” Click. With that done, Kya pocketed her cell phone and wandered down the hall. She found a confused Joey standing at the top of the stairs. Kya admired his taste in clothes were good. He wore a loose pair of black pants with a long-sleeved dark green t-shirt. The shirt looked a little big on him, seeing as the sleeves hid part of his hands.“Have a nice shower?” Kya asked, sliding up beside him.Joey turned to her and gave her a small smile.“Yeah. Where’s Mokuba at?” Joey asked.Kya pointed down the stairs. With a silent nod of his head, Joey started trailing down the stairs. Kya quick-stepped and was beside him in an instant, making him jump yet again.“Geez, woman! You need to wear bells or somethin’!” Joey exclaimed.Kya laughed.“I have a feeling that life will be more interesting with you around,” Kya remarked. She surprised him by looping a hand through his arm so they had linked arms.“So how long have you known Kaiba?” Joey asked.Kya had to give that a little thought. It seemed like an eternity since she’d known the Kaiba brothers. She had known them even before they were Kaiba’s.“I knew his parents,” Kya answered.Joey’s eyebrows shot up. He hadn’t known Kaiba had any friends that had known him that long. He hadn’t known Kaiba even had any friends! Especially a friend like Kya. He got the feeling that she drove him crazy like he (Joey) drove him crazy. It wasn’t until they were at the ground level and stepping into the kitchen that Joey saw Mokuba. Upon seeing the youth eating on a stool at the kitchen island, Joey suddenly recalled what the youth had said upstairs.“I was just so excited. He’s been asleep for five days and I was beginning to think big brother had lied.”He stumbled into a seat beside Mokuba. The youth looked up at him with a worried look on his face.“Are you okay, Joey?” Mokuba asked.Kya looked a tad concerned, too, as she sat down across from the two males.“You said I’ve been out of it for five days?” Joey asked.Mokuba nodded. “That’s right, Joey. Friday night was when you were supposed to meet me. Today is Wednesday.”He understood now. He understood why Kaiba had been out late and why he had been looking for him.The week before, Mokuba had come by the Game Shop. Joey had been minding the shop for Yugi and his grandfather when the boy had come in. Mokuba had been really excited to see him, seeing as he didn’t see the blonde often. He had asked if Joey could come over the following week (Friday) to help him test out some new video games. He had been hesitant to accept, but had readily accepted after Mokuba had told him Kaiba would be home late that night from meetings. When he had been beaten, he had been answering a text from Mokuba. The young boy had been checking to see if Joey was still coming. He remembered typing out that he was on his way when the first blow had landed. He zoned back into the conversation when Mokuba spoke again.“When you didn’t show up, I got really worried. I tried calling, but you didn’t pick up. So I called Seto. I bugged him until he agreed to drive along the way you would have come to get to our house,” Mokuba explained. It made sense. The park was on the way to Kaiba’s house and the CEO probably would have checked there, just in case. Joey reached out to grasp Mokuba’s shoulder and squeezed.“I’m sorry, Mokuba. I wanted to be here,” Joey told him.Mokuba opened his mouth to ask the question everyone wanted an answer to, but Kya spoke first.“What do you want to eat, Joey?” Kya asked.Joey shrugged and mumbled that he would be good for anything. Mokuba jumped up from his seat to grab Joey a plate. Joey lowered his head to his chest. Kya could tell the blonde felt bad about worrying Mokuba.Poor boy wears his heart on his sleeve. Quite the difference from Seto, Kya thought.Mokuba placed the large plate down in front of Joey. He was shocked when Joey slowly began eating his lunch. He knew the boy could inhale his food in a split second. So a slow eating Joey was a rare sight, indeed.“Hey, Mokie. You’re one too, right?” Joey asked, quietly.Mokuba tilted his head in confusion. Joey swallowed the food in his mouth before expanding his question.“I figured it out upstairs. Yer brother. He’s a vampire. I’m guessing you are, too,” Joey said.Mokuba nodded his head. He understood a lot more than kids his age. Mokuba surprised Joey by reaching out and touching the side of his face. He suddenly was seeing things through Mokuba’s eyes.He was in a game room. He was looking down at his cell phone. The screen was open to a text. It was from Joey. It said: On my way. The time the text was sent was at 8:02PM.“I’m sure he’ll be here soon. I’ll get the snacks ready!”Kya watched in mild fascination. It wasn’t often Mokuba shared his ability with others. It was probably good that he shared it now with Joey. It might put him more at ease with the Kaiba brothers. It looked even darker outside. The time on his cell phone read as 10:45PM. Several texts had been sent to Joey’s number. All were unanswered.“Something’s wrong.”He hit the speed dial on his phone and a picture of his brother appeared on the screen. He slid the phone up to his hear and waited. The call was answered on the second ring.“I’m going to be leaving shortly, Mokuba. Did the mutt enjoy himself?”“No. He never showed. He told me he was on his way and that was over two hours ago! Seto, I’m worried.”“I’m sure everything is okay, Mokuba. Wheeler probably fell asleep or something.”Mokuba’s voice filled the air, begging his brother to look for the blonde on his way home. Finally, Seto agreed to at least look for him along the roadway from the Game Shop to the Kaiba Mansion.Kya noticed Joey’s eyes shifting back and forth from left to right. It almost looked like someone having an episode. However, she knew it was part of the snippets of images that filtered across the subject’s mind when Mokuba used his ability. He heard the limo pull up and jumped to his feet. He was at the front door in an instant, as if someone had hit the fast forward button. He opened the door in time for Seto to come through the door. He was cradling Joey in his arms. The blonde’s head was tucked under his chin and he was shaking as though cold.He gasped.“Joey!”Seto had a worried look on his face. “It’s okay, ‘kuba. He’ll be okay.”Joey gasped as Mokuba dropped his hand. Joey couldn’t believe it. In the last memory, he had seen an actual expression, other than a frown or sneer, on Kaiba’s face. Joey shook his head mentally. He was probably just worried that I would worry Mokuba, Joey thought.“What was that?” Joey asked.“Mokuba is a Psychic Vampire. He feeds on the energy of other people’s emotions. What you just saw was his special ability. Mokuba can show a person his memories through his eyes just by touching him,” Kya answered.“Is Kaiba the same?” Joey asked, turning his gaze from Mokuba to Kya.Except this time it was Mokuba that answered him.“You’ll have to ask him, Joey,” he giggled.Joey could only imagine how well that question would be received. He picked his fork back up and ate his breakfast slowly. Unbeknownst to him, Kya was watching him very carefully and making mental notes. When Joey looked up, Kya was taking her third or fourth bite into an apple. He dropped his fork in surprise. Kya raised an eyebrow.“What?” she asked, taking a large bite and chewing.“You’re eating food!” he exclaimed.Mokuba covered up his laugh by slapping a hand over his mouth. Kya smiled.“So are you,” she pointed out.“But you’re not human! How the Hell is that possible?!”Kya finished swallowing and barked out a laugh.“That is a question I will answer later when we talk with Seto,” Kya told him.At the mention of Seto, Joey blurted out the very next thing that came to mind.“You guys don’t sparkle!!”He had seen both Kaiba’s out in the sun on multiple occasions.Mokuba laughed so hard he fell off his stool and onto the floor. Kya giggled a little, but then she had a determined look on her face. She stood up and walked around to their side of the island.“Are you done eating?”Joey nodded. Kya’s smirk, however, had him wondering if he should have told her no. With a single swift moment, Kya had him thrown over her back in a fireman’s hold. She held his weight just fine as she trudged out of the kitchen.“You and I are going to watch a special movie, Joey. Mokuba, when your brother gets here, send him to the family room,” Kya called over her shoulder.“What movie are we watching?” Mokuba heard Joey ask.“Twilight.”Mokuba roared with even more laughter as Joey shouted a long, “NOOOO!”/……/
“For the zillionth time, vampires don’t sparkle.”
Seto paused outside the sliding wooden doors that led into the family room. Mokuba had told him Kya and Joey was watching a movie. But he hadn’t told him what movie it was. However, given the statement Kya had just spoken, he had a good guess as to what movie was in the DVD player. How that movie made itself in this house is anyone’s guess, Seto wondered. He knew he hadn’t bought the movie. He wouldn’t put it past his little brother to have bought such a movie, though. Taking a deep breath, Seto slid open one of the doors and stepped in. He was gifted with a startling image once inside.Joey was lying down on his stomach with his head resting on crossed arms and his body facing the television. Kya was sitting cross-legged on the middle of his back and facing the television, too.“I can’t believe you’re making me do this.”“Smile.”Seto glanced at the television. Ah. It was the ending dance season with the mortal and vampire. The brunette quietly slid the door shut behind him and came further into the room. He could tell by the small side smirk that Kya was aware of his presence. Wheeler, on the other hand, had yet to acknowledge his presence.“So why did they make the vampires sparkle?” Joey asked, staring at the television in half-interest.“Because Twilight is pure rubbish written by an idiotic mortal,” was his automatic response.Joey’s head snapped back around and up to look at him whereas Kya calmly turned her head.“You’re home early, Seto,” Kya commented.Seto smirked while cross his arms over his chest.“I didn’t want to find my house in ruins. And Kya? Why are you sitting on Wheeler’s back?” Seto asked.Kya smiled while Joey shot her an annoyed look over his shoulder.“How else am I going to get a hot-blooded male to sit down and watch this? Hell, I had to wrestle you to the ground to get you in the same room as this movie,” Kya hinted. He had a feeling that by the time their conversation was over, Kya will have changed Wheeler’s view about him. Why in Ra’s name had he called her again?[I’m guessing you’d like me to get off your puppy so he can sit up and hear what you have to say.]Joey jolted underneath her. The strange and odd sounding language had startled him. It weirded him out more when Seto said something back to Kya in the same language.[If you wouldn’t mind.] Seto said, sarcastically.Kya apparently wanted to show off to the blonde as she slowed down her movement. It was only because of this and Joey looking directly at her that he was able to see how it was she quickly traveled.Slowly, Kya turned her body slightly to the left. As she did, her body faded from view left to right, like a page being turned. She reappeared a few feet away on the back end of the couch. She faded back into view much the same way she had disappeared.Joey rolled onto his back and sat up with his knees partially bent with his arms looped around them. He looked up at Seto with a slightly down look on his face.“You and I gotta have a talk, don’t we?” he asked in a subdued tone of voice.Seto raised an eyebrow. Mokuba had given him the impression that the puppy was awake and curious. Now he appeared to be quiet. A word he would have never thought of to describe Joey Wheeler.“It was my understanding you wanted answers,” Seto stated.Joey nodded. Seto gestured to the seating in the room. The blonde knew he was going to want to get comfortable for this conversation. With an open frown on his face, Seto watched as Joey jumped onto the couch so he could sit on the back of it next to Kya. He rolled his eyes and took a seat in a comfy armchair.“Before I tell you anything, I want you to tell me what you know,” Seto told him.His voice was quiet, but Seto heard him perfectly as he gave great detail to what he knew. He recalled planning to meet Mokuba and Kaiba finding him beaten to near death; the bites to his neck; waking up and figuring out the vampire status; and having a conversation with Mokuba & Kya.He purposely left out who had attacked him and that he remembered the two times the brunette had touched him. It wasn’t information he thought was important to share.“I know you’re a vampire and yer brother is some type of Psychic Vampire. And I know Kya ain’t human, but she eats food like me. I asked her if yer bitin’ me-,” Joey blushed. “-umm, what that made me. But she wouldn’t tell me.”[You bet your ass, I ain’t.] Kya murmured.Seto shot her a warning look before speaking.“Wheeler.”Joey glanced up. It was the first time in a long time that he could recall Kaiba saying his voice in such a neutral tone of voice.“You are correct in your assumption of what I am. As for yourself, you are not a vampire. Not a pureblood, anyway. If you hadn’t gotten yourself beaten within an inch of your life, I wouldn’t have had to save you.” Kaiba sighed. “But I did.”Joey’s gaze shifted away. It wasn’t his fault that his father thought he was a worthless mutt. It wasn’t his fault. Kya gave Seto a dirty look. Clearly, something Seto had said had upset the other male.“Joey.”The male turned his head a little to the left, showing that he was listening.“Seto and Mokuba are born pureblood vampires. They’re two different types because their parents were two different types. I’m different from them, because I’m not a pureblood. I’m a Halfling,” Kya explained.By the end of her short speech, Joey had turned his head full back around to look at her.“Halfling? As in half-human, half-something else?” Joey questioned.Kya nodded. Seto picked up the conversation from there.“Kya is half-vampire, Wheeler. She has abilities from both sides of her parentage. She can eat food like you, because that’s how she gets sustenance. What she did just now is called shadow-walking,” Seto told him.“So your dad was a vampire?” Joey asked, slightly confused.Kya gave him a bored look before shaking her head.“No. My mother was a vampire. My father was a mortal.”“What was that…that you two were saying?” Joey asked.Kya glanced at Seto.“You didn’t understand us?” she asked.Joey shook his head. Kya made an hmm sound in the back of her throat.“That was the language of the vampires.”Joey frowned. “Did you ask if I could understand you because Kaiba bit me?”Wheeler was surprisingly observant today. Seto began to believe that he should keep a closer eye on the blonde.“Yes and no. It’s a little more complicated than that. The initial bite was to create a connection; a link to me. The other times were to keep you calm while you were healing,” Seto said.Joey’s deep brown eyes turned towards him. They seemed to stare deep down into his soul, as though looking for the answers to every life’s mystery.“I don’t feel any different; except the cuts and bruises are nearly gone. What did you do?” Joey inquired.Seto had contemplated lying to the blonde, but he knew there was a 50-50 chance that Kya would interject. Correction. It was more likely a 20-60 chance, with 60 being the chance she would argue against what he said. Seto leaned forward and rested his arms on his knees.“I healed you. I made the link to keep you temporarily connected to me. I did a blood ritual. It allowed me to use my blood to seal your wounds. They should be gone by tomorrow,” Seto assured him.Joey dropped his gaze and head. Kya had explained earlier that vampires didn’t have blood singers or destined mates. There were certain blood types that tasted better for those who drank blood, but vampires were able to choose who they wanted to mate with.A part of him had hoped that the brunette had changed him. Despite the initial embarrassment, he had enjoyed the comforting arms and soothing words. It was a great relief from the treatment he got at home.“Joey, are you okay?” Kya murmured. He nodded his head quietly.“Yeah. I’m just tired,” he lied.He didn’t know if vampires could tell when someone was lying. Frankly, he didn’t give a damn. Kya suggested he go lay down for a little bit.“Okay.”Sparing a glance at the other male, Joey pushed himself off the couch and disappeared out the door. Kya waited until she couldn’t hear his footsteps in the hall.[You absolute ass!]Seto shot her an annoyed look. She ignored it in favor of continuing. She disappeared and reappeared standing in front of his armchair.[What the Hell are you thinking? Your connection to him isn’t temporary. It is very much there and active! You can’t do this.] Kya told him.In a swift motion, Seto was on his feet in front of her.[Wheeler doesn’t need to know that he’s a Halfling, too. He’s not showing any signs of vampirism, unlike your half-bred ass.]Kya’s eyes burned. She murmured several curses to him.[Then why bother calling me? I don’t appreciate being used like a child’s plaything.]He didn’t answer her so she shadow-walked and reappeared at the wooden doors. In the blink of an eye, Seto was behind her with his hand on the door, preventing her from leaving. He jerked her around with his other hand. Her hand flew up to the center of his chest while his free hand clamped down on her arm.“I needed to make sure. Wheeler could have blown this all out of proportion. He’s a lot calmer than I thought. You can read people a lot better than me. And I think he needs someone to talk to that’s not me about all this,” Seto whispered in a quiet murmur. The heat in Kya’s gaze receded a little. She was still partially annoyed at him.“Why is he not pushing to get out of here? Aren’t you both missing school?” Kya asked.Seto shook his head. He explained that they had a week off of school because of a flooding issue that was being fixed. Kya let out a weary sigh.“I will stay for a few days, but you should remember, Seto. Remember that while he may not feel the connection, you will. When you’re near him, you may become the possessive dragon I know you to be. Especially if someone else is in close contact with him.”Seto scoffed.“I can control myself, Kya.”Kya smiled.“I certainly hope so, Seto. After all, the blonde is cute, especially in those adorable puppy dog boxers.”In his shock, Seto loosened his hold and Kya disappeared. It took him only a couple of seconds to register what she had said.[What the Hell were you doing that you saw him half-naked?!]Kya’s laughter echoed from the hallway.AN: Hey, readers.
