Say it with Plushies
Chapter 5
@-->-->----
As always, Kaiba sat up the back of the English classroom. Also as always, instead of working on the creative writing assignment the class had been given, he was working on his business correspondence.
In his position as CEO of Kaiba Corp. he had a number of documents that needed to be composed on a daily basis and, if he had been forced to leave them all until after school, he would never have managed to complete them. The arrangement worked well for him. The teacher was also happy with it, as long as he turned in the occasional mandatory assessment item and completed any exams he was given.
Normally, by the middle of the class, Kaiba would have been deeply engrossed in some document or other, but for once he was finding it difficult to concentrate on his work. He didn't have to think to know the reason for his distraction. It lay inside the innocent-looking box that was sitting on his briefcase, on the floor beside his desk.
He glanced down at it and scowled. There was still a good twenty minutes before the class ended and he would have a chance to see Wheeler's message for that day. If the blonde hadn't been so much later than usual that morning, he could have looked at it *before* the class started. It was yet another reason to glare at the back of Wheeler's head. Honestly, didn't that blonde irritation have any sense of time at all? He was always running late and... Kaiba's whirling thoughts came to a sudden halt, only that last thought continuing to unravel in his mind.
Wheeler was always running late for school. But, almost every morning for the past week, the blonde had arrived at the lockers with plenty of time to spare. Enough time for them to hand over the box and trade an insult or two.
Kaiba eyed the blonde thoughtfully as he considered the possibilities. Perhaps Wheeler had a new alarm clock. Perhaps he'd finally learned how to set his existing alarm clock. Perhaps he was catching a ride to school with someone and they were picking him up earlier than normal. Perhaps he was deliberately coming to school earlier so they'd have time to see each other.
When the bell rang for the end of class, Kaiba was startled to realise that he'd just spent twenty minutes staring at the back of Wheeler's head and trying to come up with a way to ask the blonde why he'd been coming to school early.
Pushing the thought out of his mind, he busied himself packing his books into his briefcase, keeping a close eye on the classroom. As soon as he was sure no one was paying him any attention, Kaiba slipped the box onto his lap and opened the lid. He closed his lips tightly against the chuckle he could feel rising within him at the sight of the plushie decorated with red sticker 'spots' and an icepack.
"So... Wheeler thinks I'm sick, does he? I suppose that is because of the dress I used in my last message," Kaiba muttered to himself.
"Mr Kaiba?" The teacher's voice made Kaiba's head jerk up and he quickly closed the box, realising with shock that the students for the next period were already filing into the classroom. Just how long had he been sitting there? Fortunately, the teacher was still at the front of the room, so she hadn't overheard what he'd muttered to himself.
As Kaiba strode down the hall towards his next class a few minutes later, his mind returned to Wheeler's latest message. "I wonder if there was a reason why he placed the icepack directly over the plushie's groin."

Joey was surprised to see Kaiba waiting for him at the lockers that afternoon. Oh sure, the brunette teen was kneeling down and tying his shoelace a short distance from the lockers, but Joey wasn't stupid. When a guy tied and retied his shoelace over and over again within a minute, he was waiting for someone and trying not to be obvious about it. Joey grinned. He strolled over and paused in front of the kneeling teen. "Hey Kaiba, why don't ya tie it again? I don't think ya got it right all the other times."
Kaiba scowled as he briskly retied his shoelace and stood up, the box under one arm. A faint tide of colour washed into his cheeks and his scowl deepened. "I have no idea what you are talking about, however I doubt very much that it would interest me even if I did." He thrust the box into Wheeler's hands and turned to go, but paused, sighing.
"Open it now. You might not understand it."
Joey nodded and glanced around. Seeing that there were still students around, he went to his locker and used it as cover to check the contents. He frowned. All the box contained was a plushie, minus the spots he'd put on it that morning, and the icepack. "I don't get it. All ya did was lose the spots."
"Meaning that I am not sick." The low words were spoken so close to his ear that Joey gasped. He instinctively turned and found himself face to face with Kaiba, barely four inches separating them. The brunette had come up behind him and was leaning with one hand braced against the lockers above Joey's head, so close that if one of them made the wrong move, it would be all too easy to end up touching each other.
Startled brown eyes locked with sapphire eyes that were, for once, not as hard or as cold as ice. Kaiba's mask was carefully in place though and Joey could read nothing of the thoughts behind the brunette's intense gaze. He was so stunned by Kaiba's nearness that he didn't realise the other boy was speaking for a minute. "Uh... say that again?"
Kaiba sighed and scowled. "I said, there is a second part to the message. The spots were *not* the only change."
As the taller teen spoke, Joey's eyes focused on Kaiba's lips and a strange rush of warmth moved through his body. They had never been so close before. Suddenly, Joey found himself having to fight an unfamiliar urge. At that moment, all the blonde teen wanted to do was close the gap between them, press his lips to Kaiba's and find out if they really were as soft as they looked. But even though his mind was now moving at the speed of treacle, Joey knew that would be a very stupid thing to do. So he took a deep breath and blurted out the first thing he thought of.
"The only other thing I saw was the icepack."
The brunette smirked a little, again drawing Joey's attention to his lips. "That's right. The *melted* icepack." He leaned in closer and Joey's breath hitched involuntarily as Kaiba's next words were spoken so near, the blonde could feel the other teen's breath on his lips. "Your message was that I was sick. My reply is that I am not sick... I am hot."
Joey's shocked mind was still processing the words as Kaiba abruptly straightened and turned away, striding off down the hall. The blonde watched the brunette until he was lost from sight in the bustle of the other students, then Joey slowly moved away from the locker that he'd been backed up against. He rubbed the back of his neck and tried to catch his breath.
"Oh man. I can't believe I actually *wanted* that jerk to..." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, they gleamed with determination. "He may be hot and he may have a sexy ass, but there is no way I'm gonna let him get away with messin' with my mind like that! I am so gonna get even!" Joey frowned. "I just gotta work out how."
