Shopping, Sex and Fruitcake
Chapter 6
@-->-->----
The security escort - with Jenkins in the lead - began to run towards the scene, but they were too far away to get there in time. They drew their guns, but paused in confusion when Seto held up his hand towards them and cried out, "Stand down!"
With the threat of being shot gone, the 'attacker' took the opportunity to loudly pounce on Seto and hug him as if he hadn't seen him for several years and had missed him dreadfully.
Jenkins winced and spoke quickly into his radio. "Code five outside the house. I repeat, code five outside the house... Suspect is wearing a Santa suit and...." There was a response from the radio and Jenkins glared at it. "Yes, I said a Santa suit! Suspect is also wearing a white wig."
The 'attacker' looked over at Jenkins and pouted. "I beg your pardon? This is not a wig. It is entirely natural. Not to mention that it is silver, not white." He tossed his long white hair proudly.
Seto sighed. "Pegasus... will you and your entirely natural silver hair kindly release me this instant!" His voice rose gradually as his temper began to slip more from his control the longer his main business rival hugged him.
It was Seto's turn to receive a pout. "No need to shout, Kaiba-boy. I can hear you perfectly well. Is that any way to greet an old friend who has come to bring you joyous greetings of the season?" Pegasus hugged Seto some more.
One perfectly trimmed eyebrow arched over one perfectly cold blue eye. "An old friend? Is that what you are? How strange. I was certain you were the one who had ordered Mokuba kidnapped so you could lure me to your island and try to take over my company in the process."
Pegasus waved a hand in the air in a gesture of dismissal. "All in the past, Kaiba-boy! Haven't I been doing business with you ever since then? I even gave you a good discount on all that information you wanted for your card database project."
Seto wasn't listening. He was far more interested in the object in Pegasus's waving hand. He stared at it. "Is that... mistletoe?"
He wasn't entirely sure he wanted an answer.
"Of course it is."
Now Seto was sure he hadn't wanted an answer. Pegasus sounded entirely too cheerful about it.
Glaring at Pegasus he spoke very slowly and clearly, so the idiot would understand. "Do. Not. Even. Consider. It." He sighed as the man pouted at him again. "I thought I told you to release me?"
"Honestly, Kaiba-boy, you really could use a refresher course on customer relations. Your manners used to be so impeccable." Pegasus gave him one more hug before releasing him. He turned to Joey and pouted as the teen quickly moved out of glomping range. "Spoilsport."
Seto scowled. "Customer relations are usually only used with customers and my manners are still impeccable. Just not with you."
"Oh, how cold." Pegasus didn't seem to be at all phased by it, though. "As for my being a customer... well Industrial Light and Magic has invested quite a lot of money in the installation of Kaiba Corp.'s wonderful holographic dueling system over the past year, so I believe that does qualify me as a customer." The man smiled serenely and Seto sighed.
"What do you want, Pegasus?"
"I just came by to offer you a little Christmas cheer. Oh, don't look at me like that, Kaiba-boy. Anyone would think you didn't trust me! It's not like I've come here empty-handed, either. I brought you a lovely gift. The least you could do is show your guest a little hospitality."
Seto rubbed the bridge of his nose - he could feel a headache coming on. "Fine. You can come inside, say whatever you came here to say and then leave. Just stop pouting like that!" He sighed as his words had an instant effect. He knew when he'd been played. Mokuba was a master at it, too.
Turning, Seto started towards the front door. "As for your being a guest here... I do not recall inviting you."
"You didn't. I come thoroughly uninvited, I assure you." Pegasus smiled as he followed Seto.
Jenkins cleared his throat and looked very uneasy. "Mr Kaiba..."
"Ah yes." Seto paused and looked sternly at Pegasus. "Are you jamming my security system?"
Pegasus smiled cheerfully at the teen. "Well of course! That man on the gate was scowling so fiercely at me, I knew he would never let me in to see you. I had to get in somehow. I suppose I should turn it off now." He held up a small remote device and hit a button. "That really is an excellent system you have in place. Popular too. My company has made quite a tidy profit off making them." He continued to smile as Seto groaned.
"Jenkins..."
The head of security didn't even blink. "I will order a system from a different supplier immediately, sir."
Seto was saved from Pegasus pouting at him again by the fact that the man hadn't heard the conversation - he'd made a detour to collect the large red sack he'd hidden behind the shrubs.
Mokuba met them in the hall and scowled even more strongly than Seto when he saw Pegasus. The man's cheerful wave and greeting just made the boy move further away from him. He walked with Joey - leaving his brother in Pegasus's company a few feet ahead of them.
The blonde boy leaned over and whispered to him. "Hey Mokuba, I've been wonderin'... What's a code five? The security guy said that into the radio when he worked out Kaiba knew Pegasus."
"A code five?" Mokuba grinned. "That's the security code for Seto being jumped by a crazed fangirl... or boy, in this case."
Joey grinned back. "Well that fits. It's hard to find anyone crazier than Pegasus... even when he's not wearin' a Santa suit and carryin' mistletoe."
Mokuba nodded in agreement but couldn't reply since they had just arrived at the comfortable drink-and-lounge area where Seto occasionally entertained clients and business acquaintances and were again in Pegasus's hearing range.
Seto sighed as he looked at Pegasus. "Would you care for a drink?" Uninvited or not, Pegasus was a guest... for the time being, at least. So he was obliged to play host.
Pegasus looked delighted. "Do you have fruit juice?" He sat down on the sofa, carefully putting his sack on the floor at his feet.
Seto shook his head. "Are you still carrying on that ridiculous pretense? No one drinks fruit juice from a wineglass, no matter how insane they are. White or red?"
A soft chuckle preceded the response, "White, thank you." Pegasus grinned at Seto. "Out of respect for the holiday season I shall not take offense at that 'insane' comment."
Heading back to the others with a tray of drinks, Seto arched an eyebrow at Pegasus. "You keep referring to Christmas, however I have never known you to be so eager to celebrate it. I seem to recall hearing that you actually sent someone a fax on Christmas day last year, because you had forgotten the date."
He started handing out the drinks. White wine for Pegasus and lemonade for Joey, Mokuba and himself.
Pegasus winced. "Oh please don't remind me. That was so embarrassing." He sipped his wine and sighed softly. "Ah... you have always had a talent for choosing wine, Kaiba-boy. This is superb."
Seto looked smug. "Thank you. I shall pass the compliment on to the housekeeper, since she is the one who purchased it." He sat down on the sofa opposite Pegasus, sitting between Joey and Mokuba. "Now are you going to continue to flatter me or are you going to get to the reason for your visit?"
"As direct as ever." Pegasus pouted. "Did you get my card?"
"Yes." Seto's attempts to forget about it were foiled as an image of the offending item of stationery came into his mind. "Thank you. Although a standard card would have done well enough."
Taking a sip of his wine, Pegasus pouted. "You didn't like it? Perhaps it was a little eccentric..."
Seto almost choked on his drink. He stared at the man in disbelief. "Eccentric? Pegasus... a four foot Christmas card is more than just 'eccentric'!"
Joey spluttered into his drink as well and it was Seto's turn to get stared at. "He sent ya a four foot card?"
"He did." Seto sighed heavily and looked at Joey. "Through the mail."
Ignoring Joey's wince, Pegasus sipped his wine and continued talking as if the blonde hadn't interrupted. "Well I had intended to send you a little gift as well, but I didn't have it ready in time. So I brought it personally tonight."
"Oh?" Seto looked very wary. "What is it?"
Pegasus took the time to finish his wine and put the glass down before picking up his sack. He rummaged through it and the boys caught sight of quite a few brightly wrapped gifts. "It's in here somewhere. Ah! There it is!" Pegasus smiled and handed Seto a package about a foot square in size. "Now be sure not to open it before Christmas, Kaiba-boy!" He grinned at the brunette.
Seto nodded. "Thank you." He looked at the gift, then at Pegasus. "I believe my secretary sent yours to you a few days ago. Did it arrive safely?"
"A few days ago?" A look of surprise crossed Pegasus's face followed by what looked like a flash of guilt. "I know something arrived from Kaiba Corp. Croquet was telling me it was there as I was getting ready for my trip to Domino. I was running late so I didn't have time to look at it. I just assumed it was the holographic duel disc sets I had ordered, although I did think they were a little early. I only ordered them a week ago."
"They shipped the day after the gifts were sent out. It would have been sooner but there was a strike at the dock." Kaiba finished off his drink.
Pegasus looked pleased. "Excellent! Thank you. It's always a pleasure doing business with Kaiba Corp. They are so prompt."
Seto was about to reply when there was a knock at the door. He excused himself - leaving Mokuba and Joey to drink their drinks and sit in uneasy silence with Pegasus until he returned a few moments later, wearing a very odd expression.
"Pegasus... you would not happen to know anything about a moose, would you?"
As before, Seto wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer.
From the looks on their faces, he was fairly certain Joey and Mokuba felt the same way about it.
Pegasus looked up, surprised. "Is it wearing a jingle bell harness?"
Jenkins - looking rather more flustered than he had looked earlier when his employer had been hugged by a strange white-haired man armed with mistletoe - nodded. "Yes, sir."
"A red and green jingle bell harness?" At Seto's arched eyebrow, Pegasus shrugged. "Well it could be someone else's moose."
"Somehow... I doubt it." Seto pinched the bridge of his nose and wondered if his headache would go away by Christmas Eve.
Jenkins nodded again. "Yes, sir. A red and green... jingle bell harness." The man seemed to find saying the word 'jingle' to be almost physically painful.
"Then yes, that is my moose. Although I would hope that he is not just wearing the harness. When I saw him last, he was tied to a fence and attached to a sleigh with Croquet sound asleep in the back of it. If he's alone then I seem to have mislaid my Croquet." Pegasus looked back at the three staring boys. "What?"
Seto started to say something, then shook his head - there was just too much there to respond to.
"No sir, the moose is still with the sleigh. That's part of the problem. It seems he broke his tether and wandered into the road, where the sleigh has become stuck in the snow. I'm afraid it's caused a traffic jam, down from the estate's front gate." Jenkins looked very uncomfortable as he relayed the news. Seto didn't blame him.
How often did a security guard's job include reporting about a wandering moose?
Pegasus winced and stood up. "Oh dear. Well, Kaiba-boy, it seems as if my visit is going to be cut short. I had better go and sort this out and then I think I will take Croquet to our hotel, so he can have a good night's sleep. We have a lot to do tomorrow." He smiled at them. "Merry Christmas, boys!"
Seto glanced at Joey and his brother, then stood up as well. "We shall see you out." Joey and Mokuba stood too and nodded.
"You three just want to see my moose." Pegasus grinned.
Not one of the boys denied that fact.
@-->-->----
An hour, a sleigh unsticking and a rather unfortunate incident involving Pegasus and moose droppings later - the three boys watched as Pegasus rode off on his moose-drawn sleigh. Still shaking their heads over the man's latest eccentricity, they were heading back to the front gate of the estate when a minibus pulled up across the road from them.
Mr Jenkins frowned at it and looked at his employer. "Sir..." Before he could say anything else though, another voice came from the direction of the bus.
"Right. That's it. No more stalling, pointing, turning the map around or denying the fact that we are well and truly lost. You boys might not want to admit the fact, but we girls are nowhere near as stubborn. We are lost. L. O. S. T. That means we have no idea where we are. Now there are some people over there. If one of you macho males responsible for getting us lost... Don't look at me like that, you know perfectly well that you boys were the ones who kept insisting that you could read that map and that you knew where we were going and refusing to give the map to a 'female'. Anyway, if one of you doesn't go and ask for directions right now, I am going to give you-know-who a call to come and collect us. You know what that means." The owner of the voice was obviously very irritated.
As the door of the bus opened, another female voice spoke up. "Calm down. You know they can't help it. Men are always the same when it comes to cars and directions."
The first voice came again. "I know. That's why I hired a minibus." She put emphasis on the 'bus' part.
Joey grinned at the conversation, then stared at the figure that had emerged from the minibus and was now heading their way. "Man... he's gorgeous!" He muttered to Seto, then shrugged at the annoyed scowl he got in return. "Well he is."
The boy was about their age and a little taller than Seto, with warm blue eyes and blonde hair that fell in loose waves down his back. He was wearing jeans and boots with a blue and white coat. As he approached the trio, he blushed and smiled a little shyly. "Greetings." His soft voice had an almost musical accent to it. "We appear to be... lost." He looked very embarrassed and his hand lifted to toy with the hair in front of his ear. "I was wondering if you would be so kind as to give us directions?"
As he spoke, his hand tucked his hair behind his ear in a quick and apparently unconscious gesture. Seto had a great deal of trouble keeping himself focused on the conversation instead of staring at the boy's ear - which was a little larger than normal and rose in a delicate sweep before tapering off to a point. "If we can. Where do you wish to go?"
The elf blushed a little. "Would you happen to know the way to the Domino City Department Store?"
Seto relaxed. He felt Joey, Mokuba and the guard do the same. The department store had been advertising a special Christmas show for a few weeks. Obviously this boy was one of the elves in it. "Of course. Go back the way you came until you reach the first intersection, then take a right and keep going straight until you reach the railway station, where you turn left. Keep going and the store is a few blocks down on the left. It takes up a whole block so you cannot miss it."
The elf smiled and nodded. "Thank you very much." He waved as he headed back to the minibus.
The four started back towards the gate as the boy repeated the instructions. The first girl's voice spoke up again. "Wonderful! Well off we go then! Next stop... shopping! With luck we'll have time to get all our presents before we have to meet you-know-who!"
The minibus pulled into the road and did a U-turn as another male voice - this one sounding rather grumpy - spoke up. "That is tomorrow night."
Another male voice replied. "Aye, but we are seeing him tonight, also."
The grumpy one made a sound that could have been a reply, but by then the bus was starting down the road and any further conversation remained unheard by the three stunned boys.
Mokuba was the first to speak. "Isn't tomorrow night... Christmas Eve?"
Seto looked at Wheeler, then at Mokuba. "I suggest that we not speak of that meeting to anyone."
Joey nodded. "Yeah. Who would ever believe us?" He smiled weakly.
Mr Jenkins looked as if he really needed to go lie down for a little while.
@-->-->----
Mokuba ran ahead of them back to the mansion - leaving Seto and Joey to walk together. Seto looked at the blonde at his side. "You really found him... attractive?"
"Well, yeah. Those beautiful eyes, that kind smile and he walked so gracefully... You didn't?" He arched an eyebrow at Kaiba.
"His hair was a little too light... more silver than gold. His eyes... I find I much prefer brown." Seto smiled a little at Wheeler and was rewarded by the blonde's hand slipping into his own.
"Well that's good. I'd hate to think my havin' this tonight would be a waste." Joey held up a hand and twirled something that looked like...
"Is that the same clump of mistletoe Pegasus had?" Seto looked at Wheeler curiously. "How did you get it?"
Joey grinned. "Pegasus saw me lookin' at it on the walk back to the gate. While you were directing the guards on getting the sleigh unstuck, he gave it to me. Said I should think of it as the gift he hadn't brought me."
"How... nice of him." Seto looked warily at the mistletoe, then smiled at the blonde boy holding it. "But it is much more preferable for it to be in your hands than in his."
Lifting the mistletoe up above his head, Joey nodded. "I hoped you'd say that."
Seto took the hint.
They didn't break apart again until Mokuba impatiently called for them to hurry up, almost a minute later.
The two teens walked hand in hand in contented silence until they were almost to the front door of the mansion - when Joey glanced at Kaiba. "By the way... that gift from Pegasus..."
Seto sighed. "I am not sure I wish to open it. Whatever he has given me in the past has usually ended up causing nothing but trouble."
"Well... I don't know about trouble but... did ya see that guilty look on his face when he found out you'd sent him somethin'?"
Seto nodded. He'd noticed and he'd filed it away for consideration at a later time. "He came here for a reason and I sincerely doubt that reason was to get a free drink of wine."
"Yeah. He said not to open it before Christmas..." Joey looked at Kaiba, who looked back at him. "I didn't think you'd do that." He grinned.
"As soon as we get back."
"I'd race ya... but I kinda like walkin' with ya instead." Joey smiled at Kaiba and would have kissed him except that Mokuba was standing on the front step, frowning at them and impatiently tapping his foot.
"Come on! I want to see what Pegasus gave you, Seto!"
Joey grinned at Kaiba. "Yeah, I wanna see that too."
Seto arched an eyebrow. "Well then... who am I to keep the two of you waiting for that?" He smiled.
Within a few minutes, the three were in the entertaining room with the present open on the low coffee table in front of them.
Mokuba poked the large square item that had been inside the bunny printed gift box and frowned. "Is this what I think it is?" He looked at his brother. "You gave him that really nice vase and all he gave you was a fruitcake."
Joey studied the gift with a thoughtful frown. "A five pound fruitcake."
"A fruitcake is a fruitcake," Mokuba pouted at Joey. "We don't even like fruitcake!"
Seto studied the fruitcake, his expression matching Joey's.
Naturally... Mokuba noticed. "You know, they say that when people spend a lot of time together, they start resembling each other. It's true. You both have the same expression on your face when you look at that fruitcake."
Joey grinned at the boy. "You've spent a lot more time with Kaiba than I have, so what does that say about you?"
"That I have too strong a personality for it to be overwhelmed by my big brother's." Mokuba grinned cheekily back.
"There is something very odd about this gift." Seto interrupted their conversation, but they were both too interested in what he'd said to tell him off for it.
Mokuba looked hard at the fruitcake for a second before looking at his brother. "It's called a fruitcake. It tastes awful, it gives you indigestion and people give it to people they dislike for Christmas. Pegasus kidnapped me and tried to take over Kaiba Corp. What's so odd about him giving you a fruitcake?"
Seto pointed to the brand on the label. "The fact that this brand is a generic one particular to a certain chain of food supermarkets. Pegasus lives on an island. His assistant might do his grocery shopping at a supermarket, but Pegasus has always prided himself on giving nothing but the best when it comes to Christmas presents. He always orders the best brands from reputable stores."
Joey winced. "Pegasus thought you hadn't sent him anythin', right? So what if he did it on purpose to get back at you?"
"That is not completely impossible," Seto admitted.
He watched Mokuba poke the fruitcake for a few more seconds before pointing out that it was well past the boy's bedtime. Mokuba must have been tired since he only put up a token resistance before heading off - leaving the two older teens alone.
Seto felt nervous, but excited at the same time. Tonight. He was about to suggest - in as sexy a voice as he could manage - that they go to bed as well, when a yawn caught him by surprise. He sighed. There was no point in denying the truth to himself. "As much as I would like to..."
Joey nodded. "Yeah. I know what ya mean. I'm tired too. It's been a long week and it's not over yet. We're going out tomorrow mornin', right?" At Kaiba's nod, he winced. "I'm not lookin' forward to that. The shops are gonna be crazy."
Seto smiled mysteriously. "Perhaps. But it is my last chance to do my shopping."
"Yeah and I promised I'd help ya and that's just what I'm gonna do." Joey grinned at him. "But I guess we'd better get some sleep, tonight. We're gonna need our energy for tomorrow."
"Indeed." Seto sighed and looked at Wheeler. "Although... I believe I have enough energy to spare for one more kiss now." He smiled as the blonde boy came into his arms with gratifying eagerness.
Their lips met and their bodies melted together, fusing into one from their chests down to their upper thighs as their hands stroked over each other's back and hips.
Wheeler moaned into the kiss and Seto felt himself harden even more than he had already been. He moaned as well and he felt the effect it had on Wheeler's body, also. They were matched even in that. The thought made Seto's body burn even hotter with desire - and the small sounds of pleasure escaping his still-not-yet lover's lips fanned the flames even higher.
They were both panting as they slowly eased away from each other. For a minute, they just stood looking into each other's eyes - then Seto smiled and took Wheeler's hand. "Time for bed. Although... after that, I am wondering if we will be tempting fate by doing so."
Joey nodded. "Maybe, but the way I'm feelin' right now... I really don't care."
"Me neither."
Together they climbed the stairs and went to Seto's bedroom.
Together they got undressed and slipped naked into his bed, where they immediately curled into each other's warm arms.
Together...
Together they fell sound asleep and didn't stir once until a giggling Mokuba scrambled onto the bed and pounced on top of them, early the next morning.
