smint45: You don't have to worry about, Joey. At least not right now. Lol
Relmara: I've read fan fics where Social Services doesn't give Kaiba a break so I imagine the two not getting along...at all. And Joey gives me the impression that teachers would find out about him way before him arriving at school. You'll see how this changes over time.
CHAPTER SEVEN
The next few days were quiet at Kaiba Mansion. Joey continued to not apply the special cream to his back. Every once in a while, it would start to itch and/or burn. Joey would then pause in his school work on his iPad and go lay in a bath of slightly cold water. The cool water eased the ache, leaving him refreshed and able to focus again. In the evening, Joey would play games with Mokuba until Seto arrived back from work. Then the three would have a semi-quiet dinner. After dinner, Joey would disappear into the kitchen to talk about food with the Chef. Next, Joey would retire to his room where he would read the hidden book from the library. When he started getting sleepy, Joey would hide the book and retire for the night. Seto, who would start working in the office next door to Joey’s room, would slip into Joey’s room. He would sit at the desk and work until either he got sleepy or Joey started tossing and turning. On those nights he waited until Joey’s whimpers filled the air, Seto got almost no sleep.Wheeler, whether it was a conscious effort or not, was determined to screw up his sleep schedule. He refused to admit how warm the injured blonde felt when he held him or how warm his heart burned when Joey relaxed because of his touch. Thanks to the combined efforts of Kaiba’s lawyer, Dr. Jack, and Officer McCallahan, Joey didn’t have to go anywhere with Social Services. In fact, Kaiba’s lawyer was suing the Department and the specific Social Worker for emotional distress and assault. At the same time, the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) met with Joey to talk to him about his father’s case.By the end of the week, Joey was walking around without the use of the wheelchair. He was moving around slower than his usual self, but he was happy to be free of the chair. Dr. Sharon took him to the Audiologist that weekend to have his hearing tested. He had nearly normal hearing in his good ear, but a moderate level of hearing loss in his injured ear.He was surprised when the doctor gave him a hearing aid that fit perfectly in his ear.“Jack called me when you were at the hospital. He suspected you would need a hearing aid so I took an impression for the earmold when you were out. Does it fit okay?”Joey nodded. It felt weird having a piece of hard plastic jammed into your ear. After the Audiologist programmed the hearing aid to meet his specific hearing needs, Joey was pleased to hear much better. The Audiologist showed him how to care for the hearing aid and gave him a case to keep it in when he wasn’t wearing it. Joey was happy with it since the earmold was a clear color and the part of the device behind his ear was black & red.Joey’s hair was long enough that it hid the device perfectly. Not that Joey was ashamed of it, but he thought others might say something. Dr. Sharon assured him she would keep extra batteries in her office, in case he ran out. On their way back to the mansion, Joey asked Dr. Sharon if this meant he could just turn off his hearing aid when he didn’t want to listen to Kaiba.Dr. Sharon had to pull over until she had calmed down from laughing./……/
Seto frowned as he cracked open Wheeler’s door. The blonde wasn’t in bed and, after a quick glance, not in the bathroom. He went back to his office room next to Wheeler’s room and accessed the video cameras through his computer. His eyes glanced over the usual rooms, including Mokuba’s, but he couldn’t find him anywhere.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Seto snatched up his phone and dialed the button for the security room. Roland answered instantly.“Where’s Wheeler? It’s after ten. Don’t tell me that idiot snuck out with his friends,” Seto said.“No, sir. I just checked the outside cameras. He’s outside in the gardens.”Seto slammed the phone down on the receiver and pushed his chair back from the desk. He flew out of the office like a tornado ripping through a trailer park. He walked outside and around the house to the gardens. He weaved through the gardens, his eyes scanning over the bush lines and benches for the familiar head of blonde hair.Suddenly, he kicked something hard and he fell hard to the ground. Or would have, had he not landed on something surprising squishy.“Jesus H., Kaiba! Dude, those are my ribs!”Realizing what, or rather who, he had landed on, Seto rolled off the blonde and to his feet. Joey lay on the ground with his head resting on his arms and his legs crossed. He had a disgruntled look on his face as he stared up at the brunette.“Wheeler! What the devil you doing out here?” Seto practically yelled.Even in the minimal field of vision, Seto could see Joey smiling up at him.“I’m lookin’ at the stars, genius. The lights in town make it hard to see ‘em. Yer place is perfect fer watchin’ em,” Joey remarked.Seto rolled his eyes with a barely audible sigh. Then he frowned. Wheeler took his pill at nine. He should be out cold for hours.“Are your medications still working?”Joey thought that was a weird question, but answered anyway.“Took muh pain pill this morning. Don’t feel a thing. Didn’t take the sleep pill. I didn’t feel like sleepin’. Just wanted to come out and watch the stars,” Joey told him.Seto wanted nothing more than to come down on a knee and drive a fist into Joey’s stomach. Or a good knocking of common sense. Instead he scoffed and started to walk away.“Whatever, Wheeler. Don’t stay out here all night.”Joey watched him go with a small smile on his face. Normally, he would have let the CEO walk away. However, he found himself wanting the older male to keep him company.“I understand. The stars ain’t yer thing. Probably a little over yer head.” Chuckle.Seto paused in his step. Did Wheeler just insinuate that he didn’t know anything about something as mundane as stars?“Oh, look. Three stars in a row. Must be Orion’s belt,” Joey said, purposely mispronouncing the constellation’s name.Seto gritted his teeth. He whipped around and stomped back over to the blonde. Joey had to suppress the urge to snicker when he felt the irritated brunette lay down on the grass beside him.“It’s pronounced O-Ri-en, not OR-ee-on. Imbecile,” Seto murmured.Joey grinned mentally. He wondered how long he could keep Kaiba out here.“I can’t see all of O-Ri-en, though. Just his belt,” Joey shrugged. He was surprised when Seto lifted his hand and showed him, silently tracing over Orion’s shape with his finger. Joey grinned. Seto had raised his hand in his clear line of view so he could follow his finger with his gaze.“Oh. There he is. He’s one of the few I know. There’s also the little dipper there and big dipper there,” Joey said, his hand coming up to point out the two.He knew without looking that Seto’s eyes zeroed in on the two very familiar constellations. He was surprised to hear Seto speak again, without prompting from him.“Look just to the side of Orion there.”Joey, not wanting to rile up the somewhat calm brunette, followed the finger’s tracing pattern. He rolled his eyes when he saw the constellation that the teenage CEO was pointing out to him.He would show me that constellation, Joey thought silently.“Canis Major, the Great Dog, follows Orion like the faithful pooch he is,” Seto said, chuckling. “It’s called Sirius and it’s 8.6 light-years away.”Joey listened as Seto gave him a brief history on the constellation. It felt kind of nice having the other male speak to him in a sort of neutral voice. After a little silence, Joey thought maybe Seto had fallen asleep but a quick glance to his side revealed that he was still awake.“Hey, Kaiba.”Sigh. “What, Wheeler?”Smirk. “If I wanna partially ignore you now, all I gotta do is take my ear out.”Glancing to his side, Joey watched Seto’s face screw up in confusion. Then understanding flashed across his face. Joey startled when the brunette invaded his personal space by bringing a hand up to the side of his face. He lay perfectly still as the hand pushed his hair back and trailed over his ear. He swore to himself that the only reason he shivered was a cool breeze that blew over them.Joey felt a long finger trail over the back part of the shell of his ear. It touched the hearing aid part that rested against the back of his ear. It slid back up the device and over the hook that led to the earmold in his ear.“How’s your hearing, Wheeler?”Joey shivered again as he felt the fingers tracing over the device again. They seemed to be making sure the device was in right. Joey felt he should be pulling away and not allowing his rival to touch him. But then his gaze shifted down to his chest where Kaiba’s card locket was resting.“Muh dad hit my ear pretty hard. He’s hit it a lot over the last few years. ‘s always been givin’ me trouble. The Ear doctor says it’s moderate. ‘m gonna have trouble hearing people and other things if I don’t have muh ear in,” Joey said in a low murmur. The peace was broken when the hand left his ear, only to come down to press on his ribs. He almost sat straight up but the other hand shoved him back down.“Relax, Wheeler. I’m making sure I didn’t do more damage to your ribs,” Seto told him in a stern voice.Joey laid his head back down with a protesting groan. He just barely allowed the fingers and hand to press down on his ribs through the bandaging. Joey was grateful that his body was good at healing at a good, fast pace. After being seemingly satisfied with the state of the ribs, the hand retreated. The two lay back in silence. Joey shifted. He should have been lying on his stomach, but he could see the stars better by lying on his face. Finally, he had enough and he sat up. He eased the throbbing from his back as he propped his knees up.When he didn’t hear Kaiba make any comment, Joey glanced over his shoulder. The brunette’s eyes were closed and the steady rise & fall of his chest indicated he had fallen asleep. Joey smiled. It kind of warmed his heart to know that Kaiba felt comfortable enough to fall asleep in his presence.Or he’s just that tired, Joey thought with a quiet chuckle.“I guess now would be a good time to thank you, Kaiba. Without you, I’m not really sure where I’d be right now. Probably down at the local shelter, I guess.”Joey’s hand came up to hold the card locket. He rubbed his thumb over the glass.“My dad’s been beating on me for a long time, but that night…that night was different. I thought he really was going to kill me. I knew…I knew I was going to die. And I accepted that, because I knew I was dying for a good reason. I was protecting something that meant a lot to you.”Joey bit his bottom lip as his gaze shot back up to the stars. They twinkled down at him without a care in the world.“I was scared earlier today. I was at lunch with Dr. Sharon…she lets me call her that on account of her husband being my doctor. She was talking to the waitress when…when…” Joey choked back a sob. “…when I saw him. Muh dad. The bastard.”His father was out on bond and there was a restraining order in place, but his father was smart. An abusive, drunkard ass, but he had his brilliant moments. He had been across the street, just outside the boundary lines of the order.“He saw me. I knew he could see me. I…I-I panicked. I told Dr. Sharon I had to go to the bathroom and I bolted. I locked myself in the bathroom…and I……”Joey couldn’t finish. He quietly lay down on his side with his head very close to Kaiba. Despite the dangers of waking the…uh…sleeping dragon, Joey scooted closer until his face gently nuzzled against his cloth-covered arm. He closed his eyes and lightly dozed, despite the throbbing pain in his back. When Seto woke up, he felt a heavy weight lying on top of him. The feeling wasn’t uncomfortable; it was simply something he wasn’t used to. He jabbed a hard finger into the object on top of him. He got a hard thud and foul cursing.“Son of a bitch, Kaiba!”Acting on instinct, Seto rolled over, seized two flinging wrists and pinned his ‘attacker’ under him. In the low lighting, he could see the fury burning in the gaze.“Kaiba, my ribs, get the Hell off!” Joey growled, trying to buck him off.“I’m not on your ribs, Wheeler. I’m on your waist, you dumb dog,” Seto sneered.Joey growled again while twisting his body this way and that. This proved to be useless as Seto’s weight kept him firmly pinned to the ground. Finally, he slumped down on the ground exhausted and whimpering in discomfort. He stared up at the older male with a pitiful look on his face.“Please get off, Kaiba. It hurts,” Joey said, stretching his head back and closing his eyes.Seto surprised both of them by gently shushing the blonde. He slid down the blonde’s body and, while keeping Joey’s wrists in his hands, slipped the bottom of Joey’s shirt up. Joey whimpered again when Seto lowered his head to lightly nuzzle the bandages. Joey shivered and bucked his hips without knowing it.Suddenly, Joey released a loud yelp. When his hips had bucked, Seto had lowered his head and intentionally nipped at his abdomen.“Kaiba!”Seto chuckled against the skin before sucking at the space he had bit down on. He delighted in how his prey squirmed in his grasp. He had to tighten his grip on holding down the other duelist’s hands as the body underneath him gave another involuntary buck.Joey gasped and moaned when a hot, wet tongue found his navel. It dipped into his navel with certain thrusting motions that made things below the belt start to heat up. Joey clenched his hands into fists.“Please. K-K…ai…” Joey stuttered.Seto chuckled again.“Still able to talk, huh? I’ll fix that.”He lowered his head while Joey gasped and Seto…Seto’s eyes shot open. He was surprised to find himself curled around the blonde on the bed in his guest room. He was a tad disoriented. The last thing he remembered was lying out under the stars with Wheeler. Now it appeared to be morning and they were curled up in bed; curled up in a position that suspiciously resembled lovers.Despite his mental gagging at the sudden reminder of his nightmare, Seto found himself tightening his arm around Wheeler’s stomach. Wheeler made a small sound like a sigh as his body was moved closer. Seto blinked a few times as he became more alert. He froze. His one arm was around Wheeler’s stomach with his hand resting on his side. His other hand, however…was grasping Wheeler’s thigh. Seto slowly released his grip and removed his hand altogether to pull it up against his own stomach. This movement caused him to suddenly get a familiar smell wafted in his face.Seto frowned. He knew that smell. Leaning closer, he sniffed the blonde. When he leaned back, he glared at the back of the blonde’s head. Now he knew who to blame for that stench clinging to his body.Carefully, he disentangled himself from the blonde. He wasn’t sure how he and Wheeler had come to be inside and in such an embrace, but he was determined not to let it happen again. Tomorrow was Monday and Wheeler would be returning to school with him that day. He knew Wheeler would want to get there early to see his friends.Seto was pleased to have not seen the dweeb squad at all this week. He knew Wheeler had talked to his friends, but that the blonde had preferred to take things easy. Taking one last look at the sleeping blonde, Seto noticed Joey’s hearing aid was in. He reached down and carefully removed the device. He opened the battery door so as not to waste the battery and placed it down on the bedside table. That done, Seto left the room to go get some work done.END OF CHAPTER SEVENWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
