I know, I
know, what’s with the delay? I’m terribly sorry, but
a.) I’m not really interested in the
DuelMonsters per se(hides behind an umbrella, until the vegetable and
egg bombardment stops) and
b.) b.) the translations from German to
English and finding out the according names, or monsters, was rather unnerving.
So, aside
of using some of the cards I knew these two duelist have in their deck, I just
created a few new ones-hey, it’s my fic, right? And if it serves the plot, so
be it! Who knows, someday, they might even make it to the ‘official’ decks,
hahahaa…^^
So,
basically, every card with a * is made up by me. Don’t and I mean it, don’t
go searching traders, card sellers, duelists, auctions, etc for these cards-
they do not exist, comprende?
Hitori, I
am terribly, terribly sorry about that mistake-when I went in search for the
according names, it was, like, 3.30 a.m, my eyes were swollen, and I only saw
the letters h’, ‘i’, ‘t’, ‘o’, and ‘r’. So, instead of going back and
rechecking, I just supposed I read ‘Hitori’ and put that name. Then I continued
the story, and since Honda was not really a major player, I just forgot about
his name. Of course, it’s supposed to be Hiroto, not Hitori.
I will
correct this mistake asap.
Alright
then, let’s duel(sheesh, talk about corny °-° )!
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
8.
Soaring the troubled sky
His Baby
Dragon disappeared with three-hundred of his lifepoints, leaving him open and
vulnerable.
Katsuya
couldn’t believe, he had actually accepted Seto’s challenge, to duel him while
his shift.
And to make
matters worse, his temper had gotten the better off him, making him rise the
odds:
~*Fine,
Seto, you want a duel, you got one! Let’s make this one here a little more
interesting, ne? How about, if I win, you’ll excuse yourself in front of all
these people for everything you ever did to me, and vow, to never call me again
anything else than my given name!”
A spark of
icy content had flashed in Kaiba’s blue eyes, and he smirked.
“Hmm, I
admit, you got guts. But what, since I am going to win this duel, is in
for me?”
Swallowing
hard, Katsuya glared straight into the Ceo’s cold orbs.
“If, and only
if, I should loose, you can call me, pup, mutt, dog or whatever
you like for the rest of your life.”~*
Now, Kaiba had already destroyed four of his monsters and 1700 life points, while his own account was barely scorched, displaying a proud 3800 points. Time for Jou to change his plans.
“I summone the Swordfighter of Lancster in defense mode. Additionally, I play these two cards hidden, and am done. Your turn, Kaiba.”
Kaiba took two new cards, so did Jou. A short twinkle in the rich boy’s eyes, when he saw, what card he had picked. Otherwise, his face remained expressionless.
„I play these two cards hidden, and that’s that. Try your luck, Jonouchi!”
This one registered the shifted pose of his opponent; Seto’s shoulders straightened, and he suddenly seemed to be more impressing, intimidating, self-satisfied.
‚Could it be-of course! If I’m right…hmm, let’s see, what do I have at hand?’
Katsuya’s mind raced. Yes, it could work, it was a great risk but if he played it carefully, he could win.
„I summone Card Destruction! This spell card sends all cards we have at hand to the graveyard and forces us to pick up a new set. Back to you, Seto!”
The CEO growled, when he put down his five cards and took five new ones. A short glance on them gave him new hope.
Nothing was lost, yet.
“I play this card hidden and give back to you.” Jou nodded and grinned.
“Excellent! I call up Monster Reanimation-“
“Hold it right there, Jounouchi, you just activated my spell card, Door of Despair*! This card reduces the number of the monsters you are allowed to revive! Every monster, that has more than 500 attack-and more than 800 defense points, is blocked!”
Kaiba crossed his arms, a smug expression on his face.
“I knew you would be playing Monster Reanimation, and took precautions. The monsters you can summone now, are mere toys at best!”
Katsuya gave a quiet smile.
“Who said, I wanted to bring back a monster?”
„What?“ asked Seto puzzled.
“You were so sure that I would bring back one of my monsters, you never thought what other cards I sent to the graveyard. Well then, say hello to my-Grave Digger! One of the other cards I buried was Chameleon,* which turns every spell or trap card into a monster. It activates only by it’s destruction. That’s how I could summon this cute little burglar!”
“Oh no!” gasped Seto, as he drew back.
„Oh yes, Kaiba! And now guess, what my little thief just snatched from your graveyard?”
The grinning Grave Digger turned the card he held in his hands, around.
Low, rumbling thunder echoed through the room, which seemed to darken, as the Egyptian godmonster appeared.
„And now, Obelisk the Tormentor, is mine!“ shouted Jou, as he drew two more cards.
„I‘ll send Obelisk into defense mode, and call Alligator’s Sword in attack mode. Then I play one more hidden card, and finish my draw.”
Kaiba trembled with anger and disappointment, if he didn’t come up immediately with a good strategy, he was lost.
Sweatdrops formed on his forehead as he played two hidden cards and summoned Guarder, the GiantProtector in defense mode.
„Looks like you’re running out of ideas, Kaiba!“ griped Jou.
„I sacrifice one of my cards at hand and activate Doublesword, which enhances Alligator’s Sword’s attack a whole 500points, which is enough to blast away your Protector! And now, Alligator’s Sword, attack Guarder!”
“I activate Revanche*!” countered Seto and Jou had to watch in horror, as Guarder disappeared with 1200 of his lifepoints.
“Wha-what the hell-?” Kaiba gave an arrogant grin.
„This spell card combines the defense points of my monster with your lifepoints and reduces the same amount of points, as the monster you destroyed, had for defense. And with Guarder’s destruction, all you have left are a meek 800 points.“
Jou cast an angry glare at his rival. He should have known, it was a trap.
“It’s my turn,” said Kaiba,” and I play four hidden cards. Your chance,” he made a short pause for dramatics, ”koinu*!”
The spark in Katsuya’s golden eyes grew into a raging fire.
„Well then, I activate Soul Switcher* and use it on my Alligator’s Sword.” A small, cold smile, not unlike Seto’s own, tugged at his lips.
„This card allows me to exchange one of my monsters on the field against any one on my graveyard, and guess wich one I chose. I admit, he’s ugly as sin but twice as strong-welcome back, Jinzo!”
Kaiba furrowed his brow, but remained silent.
„Jinzo stays in attack mode, and I’m done.“
Kaiba calmly checked his cards, before placing one face-down, and nodded.
„Do what you want, Jounouchi, but you have lost already!“
„We’ll see about that, because here comes Jinzo’s spezial attack! Jinzo, destroy all his traps!“
Kaiba laughed mean.
„And once again, you charged headalong into one of my set-ups! You just activated the trap card Shared Suffering*! This card pulls along it’s destructor and buries him on the graveyard! Say farewell to Jinzo! I also play this card, Glorious Return*, which allows me to remove one of my monsters from your influence and place it back under my command. Allow me to reclaim my possession, ne?”
Jou panted, when Obelisk switched from his side of the game field to Kaiba’s.
He had been so close to destroying Seto with his own godcard, he just couldn’t loose now!
This one had won back his arrogance and saw down on Jou triumphantly.
“You did well, puppy, but now it’s time, to remove you from the game! First, let me uncover my three hidden cards, monsters every single one! I sacrifice these three to activate Obelisk, and put him into attack mode! And now, Obelisk, the Tormentor, a direct attack on his lifepoints!”
“I activate Traitor within the own Troups*!” Katsuya screamed desperately, and Obelisk’s fist froze mid-air.
“Wha-what happened? Why did Obelisk stop his attack?” demanded Kaiba, furious.
“He didn’t,” panted Katsuya, “I was not even sure it would work with such a powerful monster, but obviously, it does. This spell card diverts the attack of your monster, so they can only attack other monsters and can’t ‘see’ traps, spell cards, and lifepoints. Well, and seeing, as how Obelisk the Tormentor is the only remaining monster around…”
“Noooooooooooooo!!!” screamed Seto, as Obelisk rose his fist anew, and, evoking an enourmous crash, slammed it against his own chest. Defeaning rumbling arose, as Obelisk destroyed himself, and with him, all of Kaiba’s remaining lifepoints.
There was a stunned silence, and then the entire restaurant erupted in applause.
Several guests gave standing ovations, even as Kaiba clenched his eyes and sunk his head in embarassment.
How could that happen?
He was the world’s best duelist(well, in his own opinion), and despite the fact that he had fought with Obelisk, the Tormentor, the mutt had won.
Soft footsteps and an even softer voice made him rise his head.
“Time to pay up, Seto.” There was no malice or smugness in those words, just a hidden plea. Straigthening, he nodded. Seto Kaiba was not the kind of person to break his word. He took a deep breath, and then declared:
“I, Kaiba Seto, hereby pubicly excuse myself to Jounouchi Katsuya, for insulting him since we met. You have my word of honor that from this moment on, I will not call you by anything else than your name.”
He gave a small bow, rather a nod, which was replied by Katsuya.
And then, the blond surprised him by reaching out his hand and saying quietly:
“Thank you, Seto. For both your word and one of the best duels I’ve ever fought.”
Staring at the outreached hand, Seto gently clasped his own one around it. Letting his blue eyes drift upwards, he searched Jou’s face for any traces of sarcasm, triumph, or amusement.
What he found instead, was gratitude, seriousness, and-respect.
Katsuya finally accepted him as an equal.
It was not the kind of respect Seto had fought for, but it was a start.
And then, he surprised both Jou and himself, when he gave the blond teen a rare, genuine smile.
