Affair 8 : Duel Start (PG for slight language)
Summary : The tournament gets underway…
The day was bright with promise as the early morning clouds
parted allowing the sun to spread its warmth across the city, urging people to
come out.
And out they came…armed to the teeth with duel disks and
looks of determination and victory in their spirits.
However, not everyone was so hopeful…
Wiping away some excess eyeliner from around his eye, Yami
looked himself over once more in the mirror making sure everything was in
place. Tight black top, black leather slacks, silver buckled boots, an
assortment of bracelets on both wrists, neck collar, twin belts around his
hips, one of which housed his duel deck. Yep, he had everything.
Except his aibou.
Ever since that afternoon, Yami thought it best if he went
back to his apartment he had been leasing since he'd left those years ago to
pursue his modeling career. He and Yugi both had access to it anytime they
liked. It was their haven.
Or at least he'd have liked to have thought so.
He still had Bakura to deal with as well. Yugi had mentioned
something about Marik and Bakura. Had Bakura been cheating on him with Marik?
He'd find that out in due time. His aibou was his primary concern. Yugi
wouldn't speak to him after that and he'd tried to communicate through their
mind link and found a major block from Yugi's side. Something was wrong, that
was for sure.
He felt his hip vibrate as he slipped his cell phone from
its clip as he flipped it open. “Yami” he answered. No answer from the other
end. “Hello?” he called again. Still no answer. Growling he flipped the phone
closed and headed out. He was going to get some answers.
-- Marik & Bakura's Apartment -
Bakura was in Marik's arms again as the bronzed yami had
“comforted” him last night after he'd come home visibly upset about something.
Marik asked him what had bothered him so and Bakura made up an excuse that his
hikari and him had gotten into an argument of sorts. Marik knew that wasn't it,
but didn't question it. He was still confident in keeping Bakura to himself.
“Oh shit!” Bakura gasped sitting up suddenly, half scaring
Marik as the other yami looked at him like he'd lost what mind he didn't have
anyhow.
“What in Ra's name has gotten into you?” he said.
“The tournament starts today! I've got to get to Yami…,” he
said practically leaping over the bed and getting into a pair of black jeans
and black tshirt that read “I dig dead people” * on the front of it.
“And why would you want to go to Yami still knowing he might
not trust you?” Marik said laying back down on his side, grinning a bit seeing
Bakura stop in his tracks as his bangs fell over his eyes, hiding his
expression.
“I still have to try…” he said as he finished dressing and
walked out of the room. A moment later, Marik promptly grabbed the beside lamp
and shattered it against the wall.
-- KaibaLand -
It was like being in the ocean itself, there were so many
people crowded together as some looked at the attractions the park held,
whereas others were heading for the stadium to get ready for the announcement
of the tournament.
Atop one of the buildings, a lone figure stood looking down
over the wandering patrons, a smirk grazed across their features as they
slipped a pair of sunglasses from their hip over their eyes and headed to join
the masses.
“I think this beats even KaibaLand's record…” Jounouchi said
as he, Honda and Otogi stood amongst the crowd in the stadium as the lights
dimmed down and then 3 spotlights shone down upon the stage, revealing Mokuba,
who was wearing white jeans, a gray top and a black vest and black boots, his
usually wild hair pinned back, making him look a bit older.
“Damn! Mokuba looks hot!” Honda burst out as Jou gave him a
punch in the arm. “Ow man! I know he's yours. I'm just saying…” he groaned
rubbing his arm.
“Hey, have any of you guys seen Yugi or Yami? Aren't they
participating in this?” Otogi wondered. Jou and Honda exchanged quizzical
looks.
“You know what…that's kinda odd though because Yugi I think
mentioned it only once about Yami coming to this, but he didn't say anything
about himself,” Jou said hoping he had his information right for once.
“Hmm…well I think it would surprise a lot of fans to know
the duel king has returned,” Otogi chuckled.
“Speak of the devil, look!” Honda said as they looked to see
Yami being lowered onto the stage a few inches from Mokuba as the stadium
exploded with cheers and yells. Honda, Jou and Otogi had to cover their ears
from the onslaught.
“Holy shit…it's like they saw Elvis or something!' Otogi
groaned.
“Who?” Jou and Honda asked as Otogi looked at them like they
were crazy.
“Never mind…” he shook his head as they turned their
attention back to the stage where Yami was making a speech about returning to
dueling.
`Yami, please…don't shut me out…' Bakura watched his
lover from a distance in one part of the crowd. There had to be a way to fix
this…there had to!
`So, you are here after all Yu-Gi-Oh…' silver eyes
took in every inch of Yami's profile feeling a tremor of excitement flow
through them. Soon, very soon…
“…and so as it is customary to say before a battle
begins…DUEL START!!!” Yami said as another roar erupted from the crowd and the
stage was plunged into darkness as he and Mokuba slipped out via secret exit
heading for the outside of the stadium.
~ Yami? ~
/ Bakura? /
~ Can we… ~
/ I haven't settled things with aibou yet…I have to… /
~ Forget him for a moment would you! ~
Yami hadn't even realized he'd stopped moving until Mokuba
called his attention as he then blocked Bakura out and fibbed telling Mokuba he
was talking to Yugi a moment as they continued on to a private back area out of
view of the other patrons and duelists.
“Good luck out there, Yami. You know there's going to be
tons of people wanting to duel you”
Mokuba smiled.
“I know…” Yami laughed. “Including your brother especially.
Speaking of whom I haven't seen him much except for that one time. What's he
doing?”
“Um…he's busy…” Mokuba could only say that because he
himself didn't know what his brother was doing, except he was still with
Pegasus. He didn't trust the silver-haired man at all.
“Huh…” Yami looked around suddenly. `What on Earth on
that I just felt? It's not Shadow Magic…'
“You ok? You looked as if you'd just seen a ghost or something,”
Mokuba chuckled.
“Hmm? Oh no, I'm fine Mokuba. Just thought I heard someone
call me” Yami fibbed again. He was getting quite prolific at doing that.
“Nope. No one should be back here outside of us,” Mokuba
told him. “Come on…I still need to register your profile. For some reason or
another, it got deleted after we'd registered it the same time we registered
everyone else's” he explained as they went towards another building that rested
a bit further back from the duel dome unnoticing a pair of deep chocolates
following them.
-- Wilderness Simulation Area -
Deep violets scanned the area as she glanced at her watch
for what seemed like the zillionth time. She'd been in the area for 5 of the 10
minutes duelists were allotted to meet their competitors. She was one of the
first round “Professors” that had been selected by Kaiba as she flipped some of
her wavy blond curls over her shoulder.
“I guess my competition is afraid of me…as it should be,”
she laughed. “I know Kaiba said he was looking for competition, but I'm afraid
he probably won't find much here either”
“You think everything revolves around you just because you
have a lot of money and good looks? How pathetic…” a voice said as Mai looked
around.
“My skill isn't based on my money or my looks. It's because
of my sharp instinct and talent!” Mai called back.
“Which I see none of that either” they replied as Mai
clenched her fist.
“Get your sorry ass out here and we'll see what's what!” she
yelled.
“Well turn around, hon, and we'll get started…” a voice
said behind her as she jumped a bit turning to come face to face with…herself?
What on Earth?
“Oh, real funny…so, you're a copycat duelist hmm?
I've dealt with your type enough times and I'll kick your ass just as hard…no, harder,
for several reasons; the main one being because you want to know what it's like
to be me and I'll be glad to show you…hon” Mai narrowed her eyes as she
brought out her dueling deck and exchanged it with the other Mai and they
shuffled and went to their duel stations and got ready for their duel.
`I don't know what's going on here, but this one's going
to pay dearly for thinking they can copy me!' Mai thought as she took her
turn. “I'll start things off with 2 cards face down and I summon Harpy Lady #1
to the field in attack mode! Turn end!”
“Not bad…but not good either…” the other Mai grinned. “I too
shall place 2 cards face down and summon Harpy Lady SB to the field in attack
mode! Turn end!”
`What on Earth is going on here?' Mai wondered as the
two met eyes.
`Cracking already are we? Soon you'll shatter…and never
recover…' the other smirked darkly.
Note : I know…this chapter was boring as shit right? I'm
so sorry. Things will be getting hot though….but isn't that what makes a good
story? Keeping you all in suspense? ^_^
