Chapter 7 ~ A Look Into Anise’s Life (part 2)
**Ancient Egypt**
The next morning, Anise woke up in Yami’s bed with Bakura holding her tightly against his chest. She was content for now.
“I am glad to be back where I belong,” Anise said just above a whisper.
Anise then rolled over and watched Bakura as he slept. She smiled slightly as she lightly traced his face with her fingers. She was thankful that Bakura had found her when he did. Anise then growled contentedly as she nuzzled Bakura’s chin.
“I love you, Bakan,” she whispered against his chest.
Bakura slowly opened his eyes when he felt Anise moving in his arms. He smiled to himself as he heard Anise say that she loved him. Bakura had been waiting twelve long years to hear Anise say those words to him.
“Good morning, Anise,” Bakura said as he kissed the top of her head.
Anise froze in Bakura’s arms when she heard his voice. She was a little startled when she realized that he was awake. She slowly looked up into Bakura’s eyes with a small smile on her face.
“Good morning, Bakan,” she said, still smiling.
Bakura slowly removed his arms from around her waist. He sat up in the bed and looked over at Yami, who was still asleep in the chair.
Anise followed Bakura’s gaze over to Yami. She smiled to herself. She was glad to be home. But she also knew that Naraku would continue to look for her.
Anise sat up on the bed beside Bakura. She continued to look at Yami. She then started to slide off the bed. Once Anise was off the bed, she walked over to Yami’s sleeping form.
Bakura watched as Anise walked over to Yami. He could tell that there was something bothering Anise. So, Bakura got off the bed and followed Anise over to Yami.
“What’s bothering you, Anise?” Bakura asked as he came up behind her.
“Nothing’s wrong, Bakura. I just think that it is time for my dear brother to wake up,” Anise said as she leaned back against Bakura’s chest.
Bakura knew that Anise was lying to him. He decided to ask her about it again later. He watched as Anise slowly reached out and gently shook Yami’s shoulder.
Anise pulled away from Bakura slightly as she reached for Yami’s shoulder. Once her hand was on Yami’s shoulder, Anise gently shook her brother awake.
“Yami, it’s time to wake up,” Anise said as she continued to shake Yami.
Yami slowly opened his eyes when Anise shook him. He looked up to see Anise and Bakura looking at him. Yami then saw the small smile on Anise’s face. He then stood up.
“Good morning, you two,” Yami said to Bakura and Anise.
Anise once again leaned back against Bakura’s chest. She smiled even bigger when she felt Bakura’s arms wrap around her protectively.
Bakura smiled to himself when he felt Anise lean into him once again. This time he wrapped his arms around Anise as she spoke to Yami.
“Good morning, Yami,” Anise said happily.
“Good morning, Your Highness,” Bakura said to Yami.
Yami nodded his head to both Anise and Bakura. He was glad to see that Anise was in good spirits. Just then, Yami remembered that he promised his parents that he would bring Anise to see them.
“Anise, we need to get you cleaned up and into some proper clothes,” Yami said as he smiled at her.
Anise looked at Yami. She didn’t understand what he was saying.
“What do you mean get me into ‘proper clothes‘?” Anise asked her brother.
Bakura kept his arms tightly wrapped around Anise. He then placed his chin on Anise’s left shoulder as he looked at Yami.
“There are two people who really want to see you, Anise,” Yami said.
When Yami said that, Anise started to fight against Bakura’s hold on her. She needed to get away from the palace because she knew who the two people that Yami was talking about.
“Let go! I have to get out of here! I can’t believe they found me!” Anise yelled frantically.
Bakura only tightened his hold on Anise. He wasn’t going to let her go. Just then, he whispered in her ear to get her to calm down.
“Calm down, Love. You’re safe. Yami was only talking about the Pharaoh and the Queen,” Bakura whispered to her.
Anise started to calm down when she heard that. She relaxed once more into Bakura’s arms. She looked up at Yami with tears in her eyes.
“I can’t wait to see them then,” Anise said in between sniffles.
Bakura gave Anise a gentle squeeze before he let her go. Once Bakura released Anise, they all walked out of Yami’s room. The three of them walked down the hall towards Anise’s old room.
“Where are we going?” Anise asked both Yami and Bakura at the same time.
Bakura and Yami just looked at Anise when she asked where they were going. They wanted it to be a surprise for Anise.
“Don’t worry about it, Love. You’ll see soon enough,” Bakura said as he took her hand in his.
Anise felt her cheeks start to turn red when she felt Bakura take her hand in his. She laid her head on his shoulder as they continued to walk down the hallway.
Yami looked over at Anise and Bakura. He couldn’t help but smile at them. He could tell that they were definitely destined to be together for all eternity. He could tell that Bakura was happier than he had been since Anise was taken twelve years prior.
They continued walking down the hallway towards Anise’s room. The servants, that were in the hallway, bowed when Anise, Yami, and Bakura walked past them. Anise didn’t pay the bowing servants no mind as she walked down the hallway with Yami and Bakura. She just kept her head on Bakura’s shoulder. Anise was content just being where she was at the moment.
Yami, Anise, and Bakura soon came to a stop in front of a set of double oak doors. Anise just stared at the doors in complete awe. She could feel her curiosity reaching new peaks. Both Yami and Bakura smiled when they looked at her. Bakura then released Anise’s hand so he could turn and push the heavy doors open.
Anise watched as Bakura pushed the doors open. While Anise was distracted by Bakura opening the doors to her room, Yami moved behind her as he covered her eyes with his right hand. He felt Anise’s back stiffen when he placed his hand over her eyes.
“It’s okay, Anise. I’ll remove my hand when we are completely in the room,” Yami whispered reassuredly in her ear.
Anise relaxed against Yami’s chest when she heard her brother’s words. She just wanted to know what Bakura and Yami wanted to show her so badly. She soon felt herself being pulled forward into the room through the opened doors by Bakura with Yami following closely behind her so he could keep his hand over her eyes.
Once Bakura had the doors opened, he turned around and saw that Yami had his hand over Anise’s eyes. He saw Anise stiffen her back as Yami’s hand was placed over her eyes. He heard Yami reassure Anise as she relaxed into her brother’s chest. Bakura then took Anise’s hands into his own. He then leaned into her and whispered something in her ear.
“Do you trust us, Love?” he asked Anise softly.
“Yes I do, Bakura,” Anise whispered back.
Bakura smiled up at Yami as he pulled back from Anise. He saw Yami smile as well. Bakura then started to pull Anise towards him as he backed into the room, while pulling Anise and Yami with him, through the open doors.
Anise stumbled slightly as she was pulled into the room. She felt both Yami and Bakura catch her before she could seriously hurt herself.
“Careful, Anise,” Bakura said as he tightened his hands on hers in a loving manner.
Anise nodded her head as she replied, “I will, Bakura.”
Anise knew that she was inside the room. But since her eyes were covered by Yami’s hand, Anise reached out with her other senses. She could feel Bakura’s hands on hers. She could also feel one of Yami’s hands over her eyes while his other hand was wrapped around her waist so she wouldn’t fall again. With her enhanced hearing, Anise was able to hear all sorts of noises other than their steady breathing and hearts beating. But the most distinct sound that Anise heard was water running in the background.
Bakura smiled to himself as he watched as Anise tried to make sense of her new surroundings. When he was positive that they had gone far enough into the room, he released Anise’s hands. He heard her whimper quietly at the loss of his touch. Just then, Bakura looked up at Yami and nodded for him to remove his hand from Anise’s eyes.
Yami looked up at Bakura when they stopped just inside the door. He saw the smile that had crept onto the other boy’s face. That was when Yami saw Bakura nod for him to remove his hand from Anise’s eyes and he did so.
Once Yami’s hand was removed from Anise’s eyes, Bakura saw that she still had her eyes closed. He reached up and gently ran his fingers down her cheek.
“Open your eyes, Anise,” Bakura said in a loving tone.
Anise leaned into his touch. She felt her skin tingle where his fingertips touched her skin. She smiled as she opened her eyes and saw Bakura smiling back at her. Anise tore her eyes away from Bakura’s and looked around the room that they were standing in.
Anise was astonished by what she saw in the room. She looked to her left and saw a mahogany desk and chair sitting in the corner. She continued to look around the room in a clockwise motion. Next to the desk and chair, Anise saw a chair on either side of a ceiling-to-floor window that had purple curtains that reached completely to the floor. Just past the chairs and window, she saw a mahogany dresser that was sitting next to another huge window with purple curtains. Then Anise’s eyes fell upon the mahogany four-poster queen-sized bed with matching mahogany nightstands on either side. The blankets and pillows, on the bed, were made from the same purple fabric as the curtains. She then looked behind the open door and saw a full-length mirror. Just then, Anise heard the running water once more. She looked over at the corner between the bed and the mirror and saw a small fountain. She whirled around and smiled real big at Bakura and Yami.
Bakura and Yami watched as Anise looked around the room. They smiled to themselves when they saw Anise’s eyes widen with astonishment. They both knew that she loved the room. That was when they saw Anise turn and face them with a huge smile on her face.
“This is all mine,” Anise said excitedly.
Bakura and Yami both nodded their heads at Anise. They both could tell that she liked what she saw.
“Yes, Anise, it is. This used to be your room before you were taken from the palace,” Bakura said as he stepped behind her and pulled her back against his chest.
Anise was at a loss for words when she heard what Bakura had said. She soon felt Bakura’s strong arms wrap around her. She smiled to herself when she felt him pull her into his chest. Anise then leaned into Bakura’s chest as she looked up at Yami.
Yami could see the calmness in his sister’s eyes. He really hated to break Anise and Bakura apart but she needed to get cleaned up and get into some proper clothes before they went to the throne room.
“Bakura, you need to let Anise go so she can get cleaned up,” Yami said as he eyed Anise and Bakura.
Anise and Bakura both groaned when they heard Yami’s words. Anise was content and felt safe in Bakura’s arms. Anise then looked up at her brother and growled at him. She felt Bakura’s arms tighten around her as he whispered in her ear once more to calm her down.
“Shh, Love. Yami’s right. I’ll be right outside your door,” Bakura whispered as he kissed her neck.
Anise melted against Bakura’s chest. She soon felt him release her. Anise sobbed lightly at the loss of his touch. She then looked up at both Bakura and Yami.
“Okay. I’ll be out in a few minutes,” Anise said as she pushed them out of the room.
Bakura and Yami allowed Anise to remove them from her room. They both knew that she needed some time alone while she got cleaned up and changed. Yami then turned to Bakura and looked at the teen standing beside him.
“You know, Bakura, you need to get cleaned up and changed as well,” Yami said to his friend.
Bakura just looked at the prince. He knew that Yami was right but he didn’t want to leave Anise’s door. He wanted to be there in case something happened or if a certain someone showed up to take her away from him again.
“I know, Yami, but I promised Anise that I would be here when she came back out,” Bakura said as he looked down at the floor of the hall.
Yami just looked at him. He could tell that Bakura was worried that something would happen to Anise. He tried to reassure the young teen that Anise would be okay.
“Bakura, she will be okay. And besides, your room is right across the hall from hers, so if anything goes wrong then you will know,” Yami said reassuredly to his friend.
Bakura nodded his head as he continued to look at Anise’s bedroom door. He couldn’t help but feel like something was going to go wrong. He then turned to Yami.
“Yami, I have this feeling that something bad is going to happen here soon,” Bakura said worriedly.
Yami just looked at his friend with worry in his own eyes. He knew that when Bakura had a bad feeling that it wasn’t to be taken lightly. Yami smiled slightly at Bakura.
“Don’t worry, Bakura. We will keep her from harm while she is here,” Yami said reassuredly to his friend. “Now you had better go and get cleaned up. I will wait right here for you and Anise.”
Bakura nodded his head to Yami. “Okay, I won’t be long,” he said as he walked across the hall to his own room.
Yami watched as Bakura walked into his own room and close the door behind him. He stood outside of Anise’s door just like he told Bakura he would do.
**Meanwhile in Anise’s room**
Once Anise had Yami and Bakura out of her room, she closed the door and looked around the room. It was more beautiful than the last time that she remembered seeing it. She slowly made her way over to the dresser so she could pull some clothes out of it. She then walked over to the small fountain in the corner. She used the water to clean herself up enough so that she could see her mother and stepfather for the first time in twelve years.
Once she was done getting cleaned up, she changed into the clothes that she pulled out of the dresser. She was wearing a white shirt with gold arm bands on each upper arm. She was also wearing a short white skirt that reached just above her knees. She had gold ankle bands on each ankle. Anise then slid on her sandals.
When Anise was completely dressed, she walked over to the mirror and looked at her reflection. She couldn’t believe the person that was looking back at her was actually her. It didn’t look like her. Anise checked her reflection to make sure that none of the scars that she had gotten from Naraku were showing. She wasn’t ready to explain those just yet to Bakura and Yami.
Once she was happy with the way she looked, Anise walked over to her door and opened it. She walked out of her room to see Yami standing there.
**Outside of Anise’s Room**
Yami waited patiently for Anise and Bakura. He was leaning up against the wall when he heard the door to Anise’s room open up. Yami looked up at Anise as she walked out of her bedroom. He was surprised when he saw Anise dressed in the clothes that were in her dresser. Yami couldn’t help but smile at her. She truly belonged in the palace and he was glad that she was back with them. Yami slowly walked up to Anise and handed her something.
Anise saw Yami smiling at her when she came out of her room. She looked around for Bakura but she couldn’t see him. Anise then looked back at Yami just as he handed her something.
“Here, this is for you, Anise,” Yami said as he handed her something wrapped in a golden cloth.
“Thank you, Yami,” Anise said as she gladly accepted the golden cloth from her brother.
Anise had totally forgotten about Bakura not being there when she came out of her room. Her eyes were glued to the cloth sitting in her hands.
**Inside Bakura’s Room**
Once Bakura walked into his room he reluctantly closed his door. He knew that he had to change clothes quickly so that Anise wouldn’t freak out if she didn’t see him out there with Yami. He walked over to his dresser and pulled out a clean pair of robes. He then went behind a decorative screen and changed into the clean robes. Once he was done changing, Bakura headed back over towards his bedroom door. He was about to open it when he heard Yami and Anise talking on the other side.
Bakura smiled to himself as he heard Yami give Anise the crown that was rightfully hers.
Just then, Bakura opened his door and stepped out into the hallway where Yami and Anise were waiting for him. He walked up to Anise and looked at her with a smile on his face. Anise blushed slightly at his gaze while Yami just leaned up against the wall and smiled at the two before him. That was when Anise ran over to Bakura and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“I missed you, Bakan,” Anise whispered in his ear.
Bakura just smiled into her hair. “Yeah, I missed you too, Anise,” he said.
Bakura slowly pulled Anise away from him as he eyed her closely. He could see the happiness in her eyes when he was around her. It was like she had never been taken away from them all those years ago.
“Well, aren’t you going to open the cloth that Yami gave you?” Bakura asked.
Anise looked down at the golden cloth in her hands. She had forgotten that she had it in her hands when she saw Bakura come out of his room.
“Yep, I was just about to,” Anise said as she started to unwrap whatever was hidden within the golden cloth.
When Anise had completely unwrapped whatever was in the cloth, she gasped at the golden crown that sat in her hands. She couldn’t believe the crown in her hands. She looked from the crown to both Yami and Bakura and then back to the crown in her hands. They both could see the joy in her eyes.
“Th. . . this is mine?” Anise asked ecstatically.
Yami nodded his head at his sister.
“Yes, it’s yours, Anise,” Bakura said as he took it from her.
Bakura had taken the crown from Anise and placed it on her head. Once the crown was safely on her head, Bakura looked at her and smiled.
“Now you look like the true princess that you are and were born to be,” Bakura said as he leaned in and kissed her cheek lightly.
Anise laid her head on Bakura’s shoulder, completely forgetting about Yami standing there. She was so glad to be back home. She just hoped that seeing her parents would go just as well. Yami cleared his throat to get the attention of the two teens standing next to him. Bakura and Anise looked up at Yami and scowled at him.
“Come on, you two. We need to get to the throne room before they send out a search party for us,” Yami said defensively.
Bakura and Anise turned and started to walk away from Yami. They headed towards the throne room where the pharaoh and the queen were waiting for them. Yami soon caught up to them and fell into step next to Anise so that she was in between him and Bakura.
They continued to make their way down the hallway. Anise was quiet most of the way. She was nervous about seeing her mother and father for the first time in twelve years. Just then a memory flashed in her head about what her real father had said about her mother and the pharaoh right after she had been taken from the palace.
~~Begin Flashback~~
Anise was sitting across the table from her father and brother the night after she was taken from the palace. She was depressed because she missed Yami and Bakura. She started crying as she spoke.
“I want to go back to the palace. I hate it here,” Anise blurted out to no one in particular.
InuTaishou looked up from his food and stared hard at Anise. He had to come up with something good in order to explain why he had taken her from the palace. Once he had a good enough explanation, he spoke to Anise.
“You can’t go back because the pharaoh never wanted you there. He hated you for what you are. You will never fit in there, Anise. That is why I took you away from the palace,” InuTaishou said to his daughter.
Anise looked up at her father with disgust written all over her face. She knew he was lying to her. The pharaoh treated her like she was his own daughter. The pharaoh didn’t care what Anise looked like. He still loved her no matter what.
“You liar. The pharaoh had never done anything to show that he hated me. He loved me no matter what. He was happy to finally have a daughter in the palace. You were never in my life until now. And even now, you have taken me from the things I love the most and that is the palace, my stepbrother, my parents, and most of all Bakura,” Anise screamed at her father.
InuTaishou was getting tired of hearing Anise scream at him about how much she loved the palace. He got up and walked over to her side of the table. He towered over her as he stared down at the now frightened girl below him. He drew his hand back and struck Anise across the face hard enough to send her flying out of her chair.
Anise cowered in her chair because her father was beyond angry with her. She watched as her father drew his hand back and struck her face. She flew about to five feet out of her chair. Anise quickly brought her hand up to her now swollen cheek as she looked up at her father with tears in her eyes.
“I do not want to ever hear about the pharaoh or the palace in this house again. Do I make myself clear,” InuTaishou stated to her.
Anise nodded her head slowly. She got up off the floor and sat back down at the table. She fought hard to keep the tears from falling but soon lost the battle. She watched as InuTaishou walked out of the house.
Sesshoumaru just watched everything with an amazed look on his face. He knew how his father felt about the pharaoh and the palace. It was the pharaoh’s fault for the way they were living. If the pharaoh hadn’t relieved InuTaishou of command of the Royal Guard four years ago after Anise was born, then they wouldn’t be living in such horrible conditions. Sesshoumaru got up from his spot at the table and walked over to Anise. He really did care for his younger half-sister but he couldn’t show it around their father. He pulled Anise into a hug when he was by her side.
“Shhh. Don’t cry, Anise. He has his reasons for not liking the pharaoh,” Sesshoumaru said to her.
Anise tried to push Sesshoumaru away from her but couldn’t. He was too strong. So she just settled on relaxing into his embrace and cried until she couldn’t anymore. She soon fell asleep in his arms. So Sesshoumaru picked Anise up and carried her to her room. Once in the room, he laid her down on the small bed and covered her up.
“Good night, Anise,” Sesshoumaru said as he walked out of her room.
That was the last time that Anise ever got to see daylight. She was kept in that very same room until the night she was sold to Naraku and Haru.
~~End Flashback~~
Bakura was shocked at first when he felt Anise lean into him. He looked down at her and saw the tears streaming down her face. He looked over at Yami, who was watching Anise as well.
“I wonder what brought this on,” Bakura said to Yami.
“I don’t know, Bakura. But we need to find out before we get to the throne room,” Yami said.
Bakura nodded his head in agreement. The two boys stopped and looked at Anise. They could tell that there was something bothering her.
“Anise, what’s wrong?” Bakura asked softly.
Anise didn’t look at him or Yami. She couldn’t tell them what her father had said about the pharaoh. She finally looked up at the boys and put on a fake smile, hoping they would buy it.
“Nothing is wrong, guys. I was just remembering something that had happened a long time ago and I don’t want to talk about it, okay?” Anise said to the two boys with her.
Yami and Bakura just looked at Anise. They weren’t going to push the subject with her. They were going to wait until after their meeting with the pharaoh and the queen. So, they started walking once more towards to the throne room.
**Meanwhile in the throne room**
Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi were waiting patiently in the throne room for the arrival their son and daughter. They were excited that they were going to be seeing her soon. Just then, a servant stepped into the throne room and bowed to the pharaoh and queen.
“Your majesties, there is a man named Naraku and his son Haru who are here to see you,” the servant said as he bowed.
Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi looked at each other with worried looks on their faces. They weren’t sure what to do with Anise and the boys on their way to the throne room. Just then, the pharaoh looked down at the servant.
“Show them in. If our son shows up with Bakura and our daughter, tell them to meet us in our bedroom,” Ahk-Mahn said to the servant.
The servant bowed to Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi as he left the throne room to retrieve Naraku and Haru.
Izayoi looked to her husband with a worried look on her face.
“Ahk-Mahn, what are we going to do about Anise? Even if they do go to our bedroom, how are we going to protect her from this Naraku person?” Izayoi asked worriedly.
Ahk-Mahn just looked at his wife. He could tell that Izayoi was worried about Anise. He had to reassure her that their daughter would be safe.
“Don’t worry, Izayoi. Anise will be okay,” Ahk-Mahn said reassuredly to his wife.
Izayoi smiled at her husband. She knew that he was right. She just had to have faith in the Gods above.
Just then, the servant came back into the throne room with Naraku and Haru in tow. Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi looked up as the slave trader and his son were led into the throne room.
“Master Naraku and his son Haru,” the servant said, bowing slightly.
Ahk-Mahn dismissed the servant as he eyed Naraku and his son. He knew the reason why these two were there in the palace. But he wanted to hear it from them instead.
“What brings you here, Naraku?” Ahk-Mahn asked a little skeptically.
Naraku looked at the pharaoh and the queen. He could tell that they were hiding something. He knew that it had to Anise that they were hiding.
“I have come to see if you have found the girl that we are looking for,” Naraku said to Ahk-Mahn.
Ahk-Mahn just looked at Naraku sternly as he said, “I told you that we would let you know the moment we found her. Now please leave, my wife and I have some unfinished business to take care of at the moment.”
Naraku bowed to the pharaoh and queen as he and Haru backed out of the throne room. They walked down the hall towards the castle entrance when they spotted three people walking towards them. One they recognized as the prince. The other they recognized as the prince’s servant. But the other one they didn’t recognize because they had never seen the person in the palace before.
The three people walked past Naraku and Haru, not even noticing them. The trio walked into the throne room without acknowledging the two people that they had walked by. Before Naraku and Haru could get a good look at person wearing the crown, the throne room doors closed.
Naraku and Haru put their ears to the doors so they could listen in on what was going on inside the throne room. Naraku was surprised at the name he had heard. He then smiled to himself as he turned towards Haru.
“Come, we will come back for our prize later,” Naraku said to his son.
Naraku and Haru didn’t wait around. They proceeded to walk out of the palace and got on their horses. They then rode off towards their camp in silence. They would come back when everyone least expected it. Naraku knew that Anise was in the palace and he was hell-bent on getting her back before he lost any more money because of her.
**Inside the throne room**
Once the throne room doors were shut, Anise breathed a sigh of relief because she had seen Naraku and Haru just outside the doors. She had subconsciously leaned into Bakura in order to hide her face from the man she despised the most. She then pulled away from Bakura and looked around the room that they had walked into. Anise was amazed at how beautiful it was. That was when her eyes fell upon two people sitting on a dais in front of her.
Anise then looked to Bakura and Yami. She noticed that they were bowing to the people sitting above them. She then did the same. The trio stood upright when they were directed to do so by the pharaoh.
“Bakura, where are we?” Anise asked quizzically.
Bakura looked at Anise. He knew that she didn’t remember ever being in this room when they were kids. He smiled as he gently kissed the top of her head.
“This is the throne room, Love. That is the pharaoh and the queen, your mother and father, up there sitting on the thrones,” Bakura said gently to her.
Yami watched the interaction going on between Anise and Bakura. He also smiled. Just then, the three teens were pulled out of their reveries by the pharaoh clearing his throat.
Anise, Bakura, and Yami looked up at the pharaoh and queen. Anise once again buried her face in Bakura’s shoulder when she saw them looking directly at her.
“Yami, is this Anise?” Ahk-Mahn asked pointing to the girl plastered to Bakura’s side.
Yami looked over at Anise and nodded his head, “Yes, Father, it is.”
Izayoi got up from where she was seated and slowly descended down towards the teens. She made her way over to Anise and Bakura. She stopped when she was in front of Bakura. Izayoi nodded to Bakura for him to pull Anise away from him.
Bakura did as the queen wanted. He pulled Anise away from him so that Izayoi could get a better look at her daughter.
“Anise,” Izayoi said soothingly.
Anise just looked at the queen. She didn’t know how to react to the woman in front of her. She had been without a mother for so long. Anise didn’t blame Izayoi, she blamed her real father for taking her away from something that she had known and loved so much.
“Yes,” Anise said hesitantly.
Ahk-Mahn then descended from his throne to stand before his long lost step-daughter. He stood beside his wife as they both looked Anise up and down. They couldn’t believe how much she had changed over the years and how much they had missed in her life.
“We are glad that you have come back to us, Daughter,” Ahk-Mahn said as he pulled Anise into a strong embrace.
Anise stiffened when she felt the pharaoh hug her. She had never been shown such affection like this in her life. She had pretty much been abused by her real father and then by Naraku and Haru and also by whoever she was sold to over the years, with the exception of Anubis. He had actually treated her like a normal person especially when she had found out what he was in relation to her.
“It is good to be back, Father,” Anise said a little unsure of herself.
Izayoi and Ahk-Mahn looked at each other and smiled. It was good to not only see their daughter but to also hear her voice. They then looked back to Anise, who had scooted as close to Bakura as she possibly could. Izayoi smiled even more.
“You always did have a thing for Bakura,” Izayoi said to her daughter.
Anise smiled at her mother and then looked at Bakura.
“He is the one thing that has kept me going all these years. I knew deep down in my heart that I would be brought back to him and you guys,” Anise said, finally cracking a true smile.
Anise then flung herself into her mother’s arms as she whispered, “It is so good to be back with you, Mother. I missed you all.”
Izayoi just held her daughter for dear life thinking that she was going to disappear on her if she let go. Izayoi then felt Anise’s tears hitting her shoulder and started crying herself. Ahk-Mahn, Bakura, and Yami just watched the transaction between mother and daughter. None of them had the heart to break the two apart. Just then, Izayoi pulled Anise away from her and looked into her daughter’s eyes.
“Come, Anise,” Izayoi said as she pulled Anise towards the dais, “there is so much that we have to talk about.”
Ahk-Mahn and the boys followed the two women towards the thrones. When they reached the dais, Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi sat in their thrones while Bakura, Yami, and Anise sat on the steps.
“So, tell us, Anise, what has happened to you all these years?” Ahk-Mahn asked his daughter.
Anise gulped visibly as she looked away from everyone. She knew that they all would eventually want to know what had happened to her. She looked back up at her stepfather and mother with tears in her eyes. Anise also moved closer to Bakura not only for warmth but for strength in about what she was going to tell everyone. Anise then took a deep breath as she started to tell her tale.
“It all started when my real father, InuTaishou, took me from the palace when I was four. I stayed with him for about nine years or so. Shortly after I turned thirteen, InuTaishou sold me to the slave trader, Naraku,” Anise said with her eyes cast down toward the floor.
Anise had to stop there because the next part was going to be hard not only for her to say but also for Bakura to hear since they had been promised to each other when they were younger. She felt the tears start to run down her face. She nearly jumped when she felt Bakura reach up and wipe her tears away.
“It’s okay, Love. You can tell us what happened next,” Bakura whispered in her ear.
Anise looked up and smiled at everyone around her before she continued with her tale.
“Once Naraku and Haru got me back to their camp, Haru decided he was going to have his way with me if you know what I mean. About two days after Haru raped me, they sold me to the highest bidder. I was basically sold as a slave to anyone that would have me until I was sold to someone who worked in a temple for the Lord Of The Dead,” Anise said, casting her eyes downward once more.
Bakura listened to Anise as she told them about what her life was like after she was taken from them. When she got to the part where Haru had raped her, Bakura wrapped his arms around Anise real tight. He then felt her lean into his chest seeking comfort and forgiveness for what had happened to her.
Anise not only felt Bakura embrace her tightly but she could also tell that everyone was staring at her in disbelief. She then turned herself around in Bakura’s arms and started to cry on his shoulder. There was no way that she could go on with her tale about how she came back to the palace.
Izayoi and Ahk-Mahn just stared at their daughter in disbelief. They never knew what had happened to her. For all they knew Anise had been dead all those years. Now they knew exactly what had happened to her.
“Anise, dear, what happened after you were sold to the servant at the temple?” Ahk-Mahn asked his distraught daughter.
Anise looked at her stepfather with tears still streaming down her face.
“I found out that I am related to the Lord of the Dead himself, Anubis. He came to me one night while I was there. He was the one who had set me free from the life of servitude and told me to come back here,” Anise said, wiping her tears away. “But I never thought that Naraku and Haru would catch on.”
Everyone looked at Izayoi as she gasped at the mention of Anubis’ name. Ahk-Mahn knew what was running through his wife’s head.
“What is it, Mother?” Yami asked worriedly.
“Anubis is InuTaishou’s father,” Izayoi said exasperatedly.
Bakura and the others just looked at Anise and Izayoi. Ahk-Mahn couldn’t believe his ears.
“How can that be? How can Anise be related to an Egyptian God?” Ahk-Mahn asked.
Izayoi turned and looked at her husband as she said, “Very easily. Anubis is a full-blooded dog demon.”
Anise just nodded her head at what her mother had said. She knew it all already. She was grateful to her grandfather for releasing her and letting her to come back to her family.
“You don’t have to worry about InuTaishou either because Grandfather said he was going to take care of him,” Anise said as her eyes started to glow red.
Izayoi could tell that just talking about what had happened to Anise was starting to make her daughter upset. She also knew that Anise didn’t need to get upset because they would never be able to control Anise if she lost control of her demon side.
“Calm down, Anise. You are safe and no one will harm you here,” Izayoi said to her daughter.
Just as quick as Anise’s eyes started to glow red, they stopped and returned to their normal amber-gold color. She then passed out against Bakura’s chest.
Everyone stared at Anise in shock. They couldn’t believe what was happening to Anise. They just hoped that she would be okay.
Just then Bakura stood up with Anise in his arms. He bowed as best as he could. Yami also stood and bowed to his parents.
“We will make sure Anise gets to bed safe,” Yami said.
Ahk-Mahn and Izayoi both bowed slightly to their son and Bakura. The two boys walked down the step for the dais as they headed towards the throne room doors. The pharaoh and the queen watched them leave and then waited for the rest of the day’s happenings to begin.
**Outside the throne room**
Naraku and Haru both stood with their ears plastered against the throne room doors. They couldn’t believe what they were hearing. They finally figured out who the third person they saw walking in the hallways earlier was.
“So, she is here,” Naraku sneered to no one in particular.
Haru just smiled evilly considering he knew what his father was planning to do in order to get Anise back.
Just then, they heard someone walking towards the doors. They immediately left the palace to await the perfect opportunity to snatch Anise away from the palace.
Bakura and Yami walked out of the throne room, none the wiser to what will be happening in the palace in the near future. They continued to walk down the hallway, in silence, towards Anise’s room. Once the boys reached her room, Yami pushed the doors open so that Bakura could take Anise in and lay her in the bed. Bakura laid down next to Anise. There was no way that he was going to leave Anise alone.
“Go on, Yami. We’ll be okay,” Bakura said to the prince.
Yami nodded his head at his friend. He then turned and walked out of the room. He smiled to himself as he walked back to his own room on the other side of the palace.
**Two weeks later**
Anise was having the time of her life at the palace. Her and Bakura had become closer over the last two weeks. Neither of them went anywhere in the palace without the other. It was more like Anise couldn’t go anywhere without Bakura or Yami with her for fear that Naraku would take her away from them.
Anise was walking down the halls with Bakura as they headed towards Yami’s room. They were walking down the hall hand in hand. Anise knew that there was more to Bakura than what everyone was letting on about him. She just didn’t know what it was yet.
She then leaned her head against his shoulder. Bakura smiled to himself when he felt Anise lay her head on his shoulder. He then brought their hands up to his mouth and gently kissed the back of her hand. Anise smiled when she felt Bakura’s lips against her hand.
“So why are we going to Yami’s room?” Anise asked quizzically.
Bakura didn’t say anything. He knew how much Anise hated being kept in the dark about things. He just hoped that Yami and Marik were able to get the bracelet done for Anise.
“You will see when we get there,” Bakura said to his one true love.
Anise growled at Bakura playfully. She hated being kept in the dark about things and Bakura and Yami knew it. She liked to know what she was getting herself into before she got into it.
Bakura laughed slightly when he heard Anise growl playfully at him. He enjoyed when she would do that. He was happier than he had been in the past twelve almost thirteen years. He knew Anise’s birthday was just a couple of days away. He had something perfect planned for her birthday.
They had finally reached Yami’s room. Bakura knocked on the door twice before he placed his hands over Anise’s eyes. The door opened and Yami stood before them smiling. He could tell Anise didn’t like having her eyes covered at the moment. Yami stepped aside so that Anise, being led by Bakura, could enter the room.
Bakura stopped Anise when they had completely entered the room. Bakura looked over and saw Marik standing next to the window and smiled at him.
“Come on, Bakura, remove your hand so that I can see what is going on?” Anise all but growled out at him.
Bakura snickered quietly to himself. He knew what would happen if he didn’t remove his hand from her eyes because it had happened about a week prior.
~~Begin Flashback~~
Bakura had been horse playing around with Anise and accidentally covered her eyes with his hand. He had decided to leave his hand there to see what she would do. To his surprise, she had let her demon side come out to play with him. She was growling at him fiercely. He couldn’t see her eyes but he knew that they had turned blood red. Bakura immediately removed his hand from her eyes and came face to face with a demon Anise. He was surprised when she didn’t attack him right away. It was as if she knew who he was and trusted him. He then leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips in order to get her to calm down. Once she was back to normal, Bakura apologized to her and promised that he would never do it again.
~~End Flashback~~
Bakura removed his hand from Anise’s eyes so that she could see what was going on in the room. He walked over to Yami’s bed and sat down on it while Marik and Yami sat in the chairs by one of the windows. Anise sat down on the bed and curled up next to Bakura. She looked at the boys with questions in her eyes.
“So, why am I here?” Anise asked them.
Yami and Marik looked between each other and then at Bakura. They left it up to Bakura to answer Anise’s question. Bakura then looked down at Anise.
“We brought you here to give you something special, Love,” Bakura said to the angel beside him.
“What do you guys want to give me?” Anise asked excitedly.
Yami and Marik then got up out of their chairs and walked over to the bed and sat down next to Anise and Bakura. Marik then pulled something out from behind his back and handed it to Anise. She was completely awestruck at what Marik had handed to her. She held up the bracelet so that she could read the inscription, that went around the outside of the bracelet, in ancient Egyptian.
~*Bakura, my love. Marik, my friend. Yami, my brother. Anise, the dog demon princess.*~ Anise read aloud.
She then turned to the boys and looked at them with tears in her eyes.
“What is this?” Anise asked them.
“It is called the Millennium Bracelet. Our father had it made for you so that you could keep your demon blood under control,” Yami said to his sister.
“Thank you. I will cherish it always,” Anise said to the three boys before her.
Anise smiled up at Yami. She couldn’t believe that someone would go to all that trouble to help her. She then launched herself at her brother and hugged him for dear life. Once she released Yami, she then turned to Marik and did the same to him. When she released Marik from her death grip, Anise then turned and faced Bakura. She leaned in and kissed Bakura lightly on the lips. She then pulled back from him and whispered her thanks to him.
Bakura took the bracelet from Anise and put it on her left wrist. He then brought her wrist to his lips and kissed it.
“I will always protect you, Love, just like Yami and Marik will. And we will do this with our lives if we have to,” Bakura said to her.
Anise didn’t know what to say about what she had just heard. She knew that the boys would do anything to make sure that she was protected but she didn’t know that they would give their own lives in the process. She was so happy to have people that loved her so much.
Anise then got off of the bed and walked over to the door. She was about to leave when she was stopped by Bakura.
“Where are you going, Anise?” Bakura asked sternly.
Anise just looked at Bakura. She knew he meant well but she just wanted some time to herself. She knew she was going to be leaving this world soon. Anise needed some time to think about how she was going to tell Bakura and the others that her time was almost up. To tell you the truth even Anise didn’t know how she knew she was going to die later that night.
“I just need to think some things through, Love,” Anise said using Bakura’s own pet name for her back on him.
Marik and Yami could tell that there was something bothering Anise. They were leaving it up to Anise to tell Bakura though because they both knew it would be best that way.
“Then I am coming with you, Anise. Naraku and his son are still out there hunting you,” Bakura said to her worriedly.
Anise just smiled at her chosen mate.
“No, Bakura. I need to do this alone. I promise I will tell you everything tonight when we are alone,” Anise said reassuredly to him.
Bakura reluctantly let Anise go. He watched as she walked out of Yami’s room. He really wanted to go with her but he had seen something in her eyes that told him otherwise. He just sat in the room and started talking to Yami and Marik.
**With Anise**
Anise walked out of the room, leaving behind a very disappointed Bakura. But she really did need to do some major thinking. She just couldn’t help but to think about how she was going to die that night. All she knew was that she was going to die in Bakura’s arms and that she was going to be in her demon form. That was what scared Anise the most. She also saw in her dreams that she was going to hurt Bakura right before she died.
Anise sat down on the bench on the balcony that she inadvertently walked out onto. She put her head in her hands and started crying. She looked up when she heard a couple of guards run by the balcony that she was on. Anise got up and walked over to the opening so she could stop a guard to find out what was going on.
Anise stopped a passing guard as she asked, “What is going on?”
The guard bowed slightly and answered Anise,” Someone has broken into the palace, Your Highness. You should head to your room so you are safe.”
Anise nodded her head and headed towards her room.
**Back with Bakura, Yami, and Marik**
Bakura had heard the ruckus that was going on outside of Yami’s door. He got up and walked over to the door and opened it. He stopped a guard, who just so happens was the same one that Anise stopped, that was rushing past.
“What is going on here?” Bakura seethed at the guard.
The guard looked past Bakura and saw Yami standing there. The guard immediately bowed to Yami and proceeded to tell them what was going on.
“Someone has broken into the palace. We have already told Princess Anise to go back to her room so she would be safe,” the guard said to Yami and the others.
Bakura immediately darted out of Yami’s room and headed towards Anise’s room. He had somehow developed a connection with her. He could tell that she was scared and worried about who it was that had broken into the palace. He didn’t care if Yami and Marik were following him or not. All Bakura cared about was getting to Anise.
**Back with Anise**
As Anise was heading towards her room, she was grabbed and dragged into an unoccupied room. She fought against her assailant but had no such luck in getting free.
“Now, now, Anise. Just calm down and nothing serious will happen to you,” the voice whispered into her ear.
Anise froze when she heard the voice. She knew exactly who it was. ‘No, it can’t be. Dear Ra, please don’t let it be Naraku,’ she thought to herself.
Anise was spun around so she was face to face with her attacker. Her worst fears were confirmed when she saw the red eyes staring back at her with malice dancing in them.
Naraku just glared at Anise. He was happy to finally have her alone which had been hard since she really didn’t go anywhere without Bakura or the other two boys.
“I finally have you back in my hands. You will pay for running off,” Naraku sneered at her.
When he pulled his hand away from her mouth, Anise screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping that someone was within earshot of her scream and would come to her rescue.
“I didn’t run away. I was released by the person who you had sold me to,” Anise seethed back at Naraku.
“That is not what I was told, my dear Anise,” Naraku said almost lovingly to her.
The sound of Naraku’s voice made Anise’s stomach turn in knots. She hated it when he would speak to her that way, which thank Ra wasn’t very often. She then felt Naraku force her onto the cold hard floor of the room. When Naraku did this, Anise knew what was going to happen next. She started to fight against his hold on her once more. She was not about to let him rape her just like Haru had done when they had first gotten their hands on her.
The only way Naraku was going to get what he wanted from Anise, was that he was going to have to knock her out cold. He then raised his fist and made contact with the side of her head causing her head to bounce off the floor hard and knock her unconscious.
Once Anise was unconscious, Naraku then began to rid Anise of her clothes as well with himself. He smiled down at the unconscious girl beneath him as he forcibly entered Anise. He knew it was no fun with her being out cold but he didn’t care. He then proceeded to rape Anise repeatedly until he heard what sounded like growling coming from below him.
Naraku looked down and noticed that Anise’s eyes had turned a darker red than his own eyes and her demon markings were more pronounced than they normally were. He then felt Anise sink her claws into his arms as she threw him off of her. As Anise threw Naraku off of her, he pulled out at dagger and sank it into her left side. Anise howled out in pain as the dagger tore through her skin as it was pulled out. She then looked down and saw the blood pouring out of her side.
Anise then got to her feet and pulled what was left of her clothes onto her body. She continued to growl at Naraku until she decided to take off out the open door. She ran down the hallway until she found an alcove to hide in. There she waited for her next prey.
Naraku didn’t wait around to be caught. He gathered up his clothes and put them back on. He then jumped out the window and ran from the palace.
**With Bakura**
Bakura continued running down the hallway until he heard what sounded like Anise screaming. He then changed directions and started running towards her screams. He didn’t get very far when he suddenly fell to his knees in pain. He couldn’t figure out what was causing him so much pain. Then he remembered the connection that he had with Anise. He knew right then and there that something serious was happening to Anise.
Bakura soon got back to his feet and continued running once more towards what he thought was Anise. When he reached the room where he thought that he had heard Anise’s screams come from, he only saw Naraku jumping out of the window. He wasn’t concerned about Naraku at the moment. The only thing he had on his mind at the moment was getting to Anise.
“Where could she be?” Bakura asked himself as he saw a pool of blood on the floor at his feet.
Bakura then got a sick feeling in his stomach as he realized that it was Anise’s blood. He then turned and ran out of the room in the direction of Anise’s room, hoping that that was where she had gone. He had only gotten about half way to her room when he was attacked by what looked like a “rabid dog“.
Anise had heard someone running down the hallway towards her. She smiled an evil grin as she heard the footsteps coming closer to her. She waited until the person was right in front of the alcove before she pounced on her unsuspecting victim.
Bakura and the “rabid dog” landed on the hallway floor hard enough for his eyesight to go blurry for a couple of minutes. He then looked up into the blood red eyes and noticed that it was Anise.
“Anise, please stop,” Bakura pleaded with her.
Anise just looked at Bakura like she didn’t know it was him but yet she did. She pulled away from him and stared at him with eyes that was not her own.
“Who are you?” she growled at him.
“It’s me, Bakura, Love,” he replied back to the demon before him.
She cocked her head at him. She recognized him but yet she didn’t. She lunged at him and sank her fangs into his left shoulder. Bakura screamed out in pain as she did that. He also felt her life slip away from him as her body went limp on top of him.
Bakura laid there, crying not only in pain but also at the loss of his one true love. He didn’t know how long he laid there before a couple of the guards found him and Anise. He felt the one guard pull Anise off of him while another picked him up off the floor. He was carried back to his room where he could be taken care of. Anise, on the other hand, was taken to her room.
Yami and Marik were in Bakura’s room when he was brought in. They knew what had happened between Bakura and Anise. They also knew that Anise had died. They watched as Bakura was laid on his bed. Yami and Marik walked over to the bed once the guards had left the room. Marik began to clean Bakura’s shoulder.
Marik had gotten a good look at the bite wound on Bakura’s shoulder and knew what it signified.
“Bakura, she marked you as her mate,” Marik said into his friend’s ear.
Bakura didn’t show any emotion whatsoever. He knew that Anise did it for a reason. Yami just looked at his old friend.
“What exactly happened, Bakura?” Yami asked the injured boy.
Bakura didn’t look at either Yami or Marik as he answered, “She attacked me. She was in her demon form when she did it. But she was injured by Naraku though.”
Yami and Marik just looked at each other. They should have known that Naraku would find a way to get into the palace to get Anise. Yami was about to leave the room when Bakura’s voice stopped him.
“Yami, I want you to seal her soul to the bracelet,” Bakura said weakly.
Yami just looked at the wounded boy on the bed. He knew what Bakura was asking but he wasn’t authorized to do it. Only the pharaoh was able to seal souls to the Millennium Items. Yami then walked back over to the bed and sat beside his friend.
“I am sorry, Bakura but I am not allowed to do that. Only my father can do it,” Yami said apologetically.
Just then a guard came running into the room. The two boys looked up as the guard came into the room. Marik and Yami could tell that something serious had just been found out.
“Your Highness, I am afraid that I have some bad news,” the guard said slightly out of breath.
“What is it?” Yami asked.
The guard knew that Yami would have his head when the prince found out the bad news about his parents. The guard looked at Yami hesitantly before he answered the young prince.
“I am sorry to say that your father and mother have both been killed this night,” the guard said bowing respectfully to Yami. “You are now the new pharaoh, my prince.”
Yami couldn’t understand why Naraku would not only kill his parents but also kill his sister. He started to feel his blood boil. He then looked back at Bakura.
“It looks like I can do what you ask, Bakura. I will have Anise’s body sent to the sealing room. I will perform the ceremony when you are able to move around,” Yami said as he turned and walked out of the room.
A couple of days passed and Bakura was up and moving around just fine. His shoulder hurt like hell but he didn’t care because the pain reminded him of Anise. All that mattered to him right now, was making sure that Anise’s soul was sealed to the bracelet and then he would take it away from there. He had made the decision to leave the palace once her soul was sealed the same day that he had asked Yami to do it. There was nothing left for him here at the palace.
Bakura and Marik made their way down to the room where the sealing was going to take place. No one was allowed to enter the room other than Yami, Marik, and Bakura. Once the two boys entered the room, they noticed that Anise’s body was already on the altar. Marik and Bakura both noticed that Yami had the Millennium Puzzle around his neck.
They walked up to the altar as they waited for Yami to start the sealing ritual. Bakura had tears running down his face, which was a sight that rarely happened, as he watched Yami perform the ceremony.
There really wasn’t much to the ceremony. Yami chanted a few words as he held the bracelet over Anise’s body. When Bakura felt Anise’s soul enter the bracelet, he fell to his knees as the pain overtook his body. Even though Anise was dead, her and Bakura still had a connection with one another. When the sealing ceremony was complete, Bakura had felt that the connection had been broken. He no longer felt Anise with him. Yami descended the steps from the altar and handed the bracelet to Bakura, who immediately put it on his left wrist just like the way Anise had worn it.
“Whatever happens between us, one of us will always have the bracelet with us,” Bakura said to the other two.
Yami and Marik both nodded their heads as they watched Bakura leave the room, never to return for quite a while.
