Rain Of Fire
Yami Marik followed Ryou quietly into the hospital after a quick call to Robbie. Therion was bathed, fed, and was slightly fussy. Ryou hoped he wouldn’t be in the hospital for long. Marik gripped the Millennium Rod in his hand as he followed Ryou to the Emergency Room. Bakura was still being evaluated by the doctors and they told Ryou they would update him when more was learned about his condition.
/Bakura, can you hear me?/
Nothing.
“I’m still getting nothing from the mindlink.”
Marik sighed. “It’s no surprise. He was just brought in.”
“Let’s go get something to drink. It’s going to be a long night.”
“Alright,” Marik said with a sigh.
Something is definitely wrong. What happened to him?
Marik walked with Ryou to the hospital’s commissary where the yami ordered a coffee and Ryou ordered a hot tea. They sat at a table and Ryou took Marik’s hand.
“What’s wrong, Marik?” Ryou asked in a calm voice.
“Malik....he-,” Marik said quietly as he fell silent again.
Ryou’s thumb brushed over Marik’s hand. “Bakura and I were concerned about you and Malik’s disappearance.”
“We were walking around Domino and we were about to return home when we noticed the Domino Museum’s door was unlocked. We went in to investigate. I didn’t want anything to happen to the museum’s collection. Malik and I were attacked by monsters. Duel Monsters. Someone tripped the security system and I was locked in a room with an enormous beast.”
Ryou sipped his tea. “That’s awful!”
Marik drank from his styrofoam cup of black coffee. “Lumis and Umbra appeared and summoned a mask card. Mask of Possession. Malik walked away with them. Then Bakura found me and.....you know what happened.”
Ryou shook his head. “Bakura thought you had faded. He was very upset.”
“My spirit was drawn back into the Millennium Rod. Into my soul room. When I awoke, Malik and I were in Egypt.”
“Egypt? How the bloody hell did you get there?”
Yami Marik shrugged as his eyes wandered to the Millennium Rod on the table. “I don’t know. I have no idea how long I was out. Odion, Isis, the Tombkeepers and the Rare Hunters assembled in the tomb. Malik told me the Rare Hunters wanted to restore Malik to his rightful place.”
Ryou raised a curious eyebrow. “‘Rightful place?’”
Yami Marik’s amethyst eyes narrowed at Ryou’s chocolate brown eyes. “As leader of the Rare Hunters and Tombkeepers.”
Ryou’s fingers brushed across his cup anxiously. “Oh no! Not them again!”
Marik nodded. “The fuckers had the audacity to kidnap Aten and Robbie, too.”
Ryou gasped. “Is Aten still there?”
“Aten escaped in the Scepter of Ra. Robbie and I managed to trip the lock and escape. Barely.” Marik’s lip curled in disgust. “Odion. I should have killed that fucker when I saw him unconscious on Kaiba’s blimp. All I had to do was lower my arm. Stab him in his heart.”
“Did you see Yugi down there?”
Marik shook his head. “I didn’t. I was more concerned about getting everyone out of there as fast as I could.” Marik lowered his head. “Malik wouldn’t leave. I wanted to bring him with me.Robbie and I were lucky to escape unscathed.”
Ryou looked at Marik worriedly. “Aten?”
“He.....he had to retreat into the scepter. He was injured, but he will be alright.
The Rare Hunters were following Malik’s orders. It was if.....Malik went mad. He said Aten should have been his son. He accused the kids of tearing us apart. He....he said I was spending more time with you and Bakura than with him.” Marik sighed. “He’s right,” he whispered as he closed his eyes.
Ryou took Marik’s hands. “No, don’t tell yourself that. You are not to blame. Neither is Malik. I don’t know why he would say such things.”
“I tried to convince him that staying in that tomb was a bad idea. My pleas fell on deaf ears.”
Ryou took a deep breath. “Wasn’t Malik talking about returning to his home a few days ago?”
Marik nodded. “I don’t know where that came from.”
“What do you intend to do?”
Marik shrugged. “I don’t know. He sent the entire clan of Tombkeepers and Rare Hunters after us. When Robbie and I returned home, I found my Winged Dragon of Ra card. I put it in my deck.” Marik pat the pocket of his jeans. “The Rare Hunters will come looking for it eventually. It’s only a matter of time. That is, if Malik sends them after it.”
Ryou shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “Do you think he may send them?”
“If the Rare Hunters manipulate him or if Malik decides to return them back to their former greatness.”
Ryou’s thumb brushed over his cup with concern. “If that is the case, he may go after Yugi’s puzzle.”
“The cops took it. I can go in there to get it if I use my Millennium Rod to control their minds, but I can switch off the video surveillance for a couple minutes for me to get it.” Marik sipped from his coffee cup. “If Malik does come looking for my Winged Dragon of Ra card, it could be dangerous for you and the baby. Perhaps you can stay with Se--.”
“No. That won’t happen,” Ryou answered quickly.
Marik sat up in his chair, taken aback by Ryou’s quick, harsh response. “Why not?”
Ryou shook his head. “Jaimen was killed and Seto.....is not taking the news very well.”
“Killed? What happened?”
“He received a letter from the military. Seto said....I was the reason why Joey left him,” Ryou said sadly.
“Joey left Kaiba?”
Ryou nodded. “Yes. He sent his Public Relations people after me when I ran out of KaibaCorp with Therion. They chased me to the Game Shop.”
“They what?”
Ryou nodded as he lowered his head. “They....put a gun to my back.”
Yami Marik narrowed his eyes and his lip curled in a scowl. “Which one?”
“Maxine.”
“I will take care of it, Ry.”
Ryou grabbed Marik’s wrist tightly. ‘No, you can’t, Marik.”
“I will. Don’t you worry about it.”
“I don’t want her coming after Therion.”
Marik pat Ryou’s hand. “They won’t.”
“Seto may want me back.”
“Did he touch you?”
Ryou looked away from Marik and sniffled. “He wanted....he wanted to take me on his desk. I told him to stop. I punched him in the face..”
When Marik felt Ryou squeeze his wrist, he shook his head. “It’s okay.” Marik reached out and lightly caressed Ryou’s cheek. “I won’t let anything happen to you, Ry. I will handle Seto and the others.”
“I don’t want to get you in trouble.”
Marik continued to caress Ryou’s cheek.”Don’t worry about me. Seto may have an asshole streak, but I don’t think he’d come squirrel you away in the middle of the night.”
Ryou sighed as he thought of Therion. Seto wouldn’t harm the baby. Robbie would keep him safe. Still, there was a chance.....Ryou didn’t want to take that chance. “I want to get home as soon as we can, Marik. Let’s check on Bakura.”
Marik nodded. “Alright. Let’s go.”
Ryou took his cup and walked past Marik. He stopped when he realized that Marik took his hand. Ryou looked up at Marik, who offered him a small smile. As they walked to the Emergency Room waiting area, Ryou felt Marik’s arm brush against him. Ryou looked at Marik from the corner of his eye. The yami was in protect-mode as they held hands and walked close.
“What are you going to do about Malik? Do you want to get him back?”
Marik nodded. “Of course I do. Right now, I can’t simply disappear to handle it. Bakura is injured. You....Well, now I know that Seto has his panties in a knot. I can’t run off, especially knowing they had a gun pointed at you.”
Ryou swallowed nervously. “I’m glad Jewel was there to help.”
“I can’t believe they would do that to you.” Marik looked sideways at Ryou. Seto, Malik, one or both of them, could come after us. With Bakura out of commission, Ryou’s under my care now. Marik felt his head begin to throb. He had not eaten since his encounter with Bakura. “After all we’ve been through together, it pisses me off that they would have the brass set of nuts to do that.”
Ryou sighed. “Perhaps I am overreacting. Perhaps the gun wasn’t loaded.”
“Stop.”
Ryou was slightly jerked back as Marik stopped walking. “What?”
“Using an atomic bug to kill a spider is overreacting. We’re talking about a weapon here. And yes, Public Relations guns are always loaded. Don’t worry about Seto and his men. I’ll get to the bottom of this....wait. What day is it today?”
“Saturday?”
Marik sighed. “I’ll go down to KaibaCorp tomorrow and set them straight. In the meantime, we’ll check on Bakura, get Therion home, and relax. Maybe we’ll just order out pizza tonight. I sure as hell don’t feel like cooking.”
Ryou nodded. “I’d like that.”
Marik and Ryou continued to the waiting room where they approached the desk.
“I’m Ryou Thomas Bakura and I’m checking on Bakura. Is he awake?”
The receptionist nodded. “I’ll check. One moment, please.”
Marik leaned against the reception desk impatiently as he crossed his arms against his chest. His eyes scanned the waiting room for anyone suspicious.
“There may be a chance that I can put Bakura into the Ring. Then we can take him home,” Ryou whispered to Marik.
“I’m sure I can convince them to sign a release form. Then we’ll have it documented.”
Ryou nodded. “Sounds like a plan.”
When the nurse returned, they informed them that the patient was still unconscious, but his injuries had been bandaged. The nurse escorted them to the room where Bakura laid quietly. “The doctor will be in shortly.”
“Thank you,” Ryou said as he sat beside Bakura. “They cleaned him up. All the blood and dirt are gone.”
Marik reached beside the computer and grabbed the Millennium Ring. He stood beside Ryou and handed him the item. “I believe this belongs to you.”
Ryou took the Millennium Ring gingerly from Marik. He brushed off remnants of dust from the collapsed building. “I hope Yugi wasn’t in the Game Shop when it was torn apart. If you didn’t see him in your family’s tomb...”
“It wasn’t my family’s tomb,” Marik snapped quickly. “It was my family’s prison.”
“You’re right. I’m sorry, Marik.”
Marik groaned and rubbed his head. “It’s been a long day.I just want to go home.”
Bakura groaned from the bed and squinted his eyes. Ryou quickly took Bakura’s hand. Marik sat beside Bakura’s feet.
“Bakura, thank the gods you woke up,” Marik said as the other yami tried to raise his hand to his head.
Ryou watched Bakura’s hand fall back on the bed as his eyelids fluttered. “He may need more time to wake up.”
A knock on the door signaled the doctor’s arrival. The door opened and the doctor entered. “Hello, I’m Doctor Kylie White,” she said as she closed the door behind her. “I was told---.”
Marik raised his Millennium Rod as it began to glow. “You will discharge Bakura and forget he was here.”
The doctor stared at Marik for a moment then went to the computer. She used her badge to sign in. “Everything looks good. He is ready to go.”
Ryou stood up and grasped the Ring in his hand. Bakura disappeared into the Ring. “Remove him from your computer, too,” Ryou chimed in. Marik raised a curious eyebrow. “This way we won’t get a bill.”
Marik chuckled. “Seems your yami has rubbed off on you.”
“Hospital bills are expensive.”
“Very true. No record. No bill.”
Ryou nodded. “Yes, now let’s get home. When do you plan to get the Millennium Puzzle from the police?”
Marik sighed with exhaustion. “That’s not going anywhere yet. Let’s go home.”
Ryou closed his eyes and Bakura’s body disappeared into the Millennium Ring. The IV lines and heart monitors dropped onto the bed. Marik and Ryou walked out of the hospital. As they walked through the parking lot, Ryou’s eyes darted from one car to another.
“So tired. I just want to get home,”Marik groaned as he sighed,
Marik removed his keys from his pocket as they approached his car. Ryou walked around to the passenger‘s side door.
“Going somewhere?” a voice asked from the shadows.
Marik saw Jay and Karl emerge from the darkness of the night. Ryou looked up at Jay and stepped back. “Both of you go home. I will talk to you on Monday, especially you,” Marik glared and pointed at Jay.
“Mr. Kaiba was not happy that you ran away from him, Ryou,” Jay said calmly.
“Seto was acting strange,” Ryou said. “I was concerned for Therion’s safety.”
Marik unlocked his door and opened it.
“Ryou, Master Kaiba requests your presence at KaibaCorp immediately,” Karl said.
Marik stepped up to Karl as a low gutteral growl rumbled in his throat. “Let me tell you how this is going to work. You and your boyfriend are going to hop in your car and do whatever you two do on your weekend and I will see you in the office on Monday. I am going home, baking some motherfucking chicken tenders with sexy ranch and buffalo sauce, maybe even a few fries....and go the hell to bed. If I sniff you or anyone else around or in my house this weekend, I’m going to feed you to my dragon who will spend the next million years digesting your corpses. If Kaiba wants to see Ryou, he has to go through me. Now. Go away.”
Karl stood his ground.
“You know my power. You know what I am capable of. I suggest you don’t piss me off. You know what I am like when I become.....angry,” Marik sneered.
Karl and Jay exchanged uncomfortable looks. “Very well. We will see you Monday.”
Ryou watched as Karl and Jay disappeared into the night. With a deep sigh of relief, Ryou slipped into the front seat. “We need to pick up Therion from Robbie before we go home.”
Marik relaxed in the driver’s seat after a deep breath. “That could have become very ugly. They know as well as I do the parking lot is monitored.”
“Do you think they may follow us home?”
Marik turned the key in the ignition as the car roared to life. “If they know what is good for them, they won’t.”
As Marik drove the car to the Morgan home, Ryou’s eyes gazed out the window. He rested his head against the back of the seat as his eyes began to flutter. His tired eyes closed as he retreated to his soulroom.
When he opened his eyes, he was laying on the soft bed. A few stuffed animals, a comfortable lounge chair with a teapot and scones on a coffee table sat in the corner. A stark, cold looking prison door stood on the wall opposite of a roaring fireplace.
He rose from his bed and walked over to the door. The hinges of the door grinded and squeaked as he opened it to enter Bakura’s adjoining soulroom.
“Bakura?” Ryou asked quietly as he approached the bed where his Dark slept.
Moonlight beamed through two iron bars against the wall overhead. With a sigh, he sat beside Bakura’s body.
“Baby?” Ryou asked as he caressed Bakura’s spiky white hair.
Bakura’s fist slowly clenched on the bed and his eyelids closed tightly. “Ry,” Bakura groaned through a dry throat.
“I’m here, Bakura. You’re in your soulroom. You’re---. Ouch! What the bloody hell was that?”
[Hang on,Ry! Sharp left!]
“What the devil---ow!” Ryou winced as he felt his head knock against the side of the car.
Ryou opened his eyes in the car to a loud explosion outside the car. “Marik, what is going on?”
“Heads up!”
Ryou looked up as a large ball of flame plummeted towards the car. “Oh my god!”
“Hold tight, Ry!” Marik exclaimed as he cut through a parking lot and made a sharp right onto the highway.
The car swerved suddenly as fiery meteors shattered the road. Dirt and asphalt flew through the air along with sparks and fire.
Marik’s hand dug into his pocket as he steered with his free hand. “I don’t know where this is coming from, but this is bullshit!”
Ryou gasped as he gripped onto the car door. “Marik! Ahead!”
Marik’s eyes widened as he saw a large crater appear a few hundred feet ahead of the car. “Holy Shit!”
“Brake or we’ll fall in!”
Marik narrowed his eyes as his foot slammed on the brake. The tires squealed against the pavement as Ryou screamed in fear. Marik growled as he turned the wheel.
“We’re not going to make it!” Ryou screamed.
“We’ll make it!” Marik growled as the chasm drew closer to the car. The glass beside Ryou shattered, making the hikari scream.
Marik gripped the steering wheel tighter as the car began to spin. “Phoenix!”
The Winged Dragon of Ra covered in flames spread its wings over the car to shield it from the fire above. The dragon roared angrily as fiery meteors slammed into its fiery body. Marik quickly looked over at Ryou picking glass out of his face.
“You’ll be alright, Ry!” Marik said, struggling to sound optimistic. He raced down the highway and turned right onto the exit ramp to another highway. Marik slowed the car and stopped underneath a bridge, thankful that the Winged Dragon of Ra’s Phoenix mode was able to shield the car for a brief time.
Marik turned to Ryou. “Let me see your face, angel.”
Ryou turned his head with a whimper. “I’m alright."
Marik brushed away some glass shards from Ryou’s skin. “You’ll be alright."
A fiery meteor slammed into the road in front of them. Yami Marik grabbed Ryou and pulled him against him as Ryou trembled. Marik glared at the smoking impact site. He held Ryou close to him as he caressed the hikari’s smooth white hair.
“It’s alright, Ry. My dragon won’t let us come to harm.”
“Where is it coming from?” Ryou asked, turning his head cautiously as he clutched onto Marik’s jacket.
“I don’t know,”Marik said as his fingers dug into Ryou’s shirt. After five minutes of hiding, the meteors stopped. Thirty minutes later, no meteors fell.
“I think it’s safe. Stay here, Ry.”
“Are you crazy? You can’t leave the car!”
“I’ll be fine.”
Ryou watched anxiously as Yami Marik stepped out of the car. Marik looked up at the sky as he stepped onto the highway. The fiery phoenix above landed on the deserted highway, lighting up the night. “Please don’t get hurt.”
Phoenix lowered its head towards Marik in the quiet night. Yami Marik raised the Millennium Rod above his head and the fiery phoenix disappeared. The blond returned to the car and sat in the driver’s seat.
“It appears to have stopped. How is your eye?”
Ryou winced. “It still hurts.”
“Let’s get you home.”
Ryou held his breath as Marik started the car and pulled away from the underpass. Marik tensed in the driver’s seat as he car inched away from the shelter of the bridge.
When they arrived home, Ryou walked upstairs to the bathroom to check his face. Ryou removed some shards of glass that caused several trails of red blood to trickle down his cheek.
Ryou examined his face in the mirror.“I think I got all of it.”
“Let me see,” Marik said as he looked into Ryou’s chocolate brown eyes. He checked under Ryou’s eyelid to make sure the eye was clear. “That was close.”
Ryou nodded. “It could have been worse.”
Marik wrapped his arms around Ryou and held the hikari close against his chest. “Alot worse. Considering all that happened, I don’t think we’d be able to get back to the hospital.”
Ryou sighed as he looked down. “I’m sorry about Jay and Karl.”
“Don’t you worry about them. I will handle them. While I get the baby, I want you to summon a monster from your deck to keep watch. Seto, his men, and even......” Marik shook his head. “I can’t even say his name.”
Ryou returned a reassuring hug. “Maybe he’ll come back, Marik.”
“I should have grabbed him and dragged him away from there. But there were too many Tombkeepers and Robbie isn’t exactly a sprinter with that foot of his.”
Ryou yawned. “Are you hungry?”
“Before that meteor shower, yes. However, almost being flattened by fireballs from the sky and being burned to a crisp are two great ways to kill an appetite.”
“Where do you think they came from?”
Marik shrugged as he released Ryou. “I don’t know. I’m going to get Therion. I’ll be back soon.”
Marik gave Ryou a quick kiss on the cheek and left the house. Ryou walked into his room and grabbed his deck from the table beside the bed.
//Ry...//
/Bakura!/ Ryou breathed a sigh of relief.
//How did I get here? What the hell happened?//
/You were found in the rubble of Yugi’s Game Shop./ Ryou walked down the stairs and examined his cards to see which card he wanted to defend the home.
Bakura groaned in his soulroom. //Last thing I remember is getting whacked in the back of the head with something hard. I was searching for something.....//
/Yugi’s Millennium Puzzle?/
//THAT’S IT! Ow, my head. Do you have it?//
/No. The Domino Police took it from you. It’s most likely in the Evidence room at the station./
Bakura groaned again. //Holy shit, my head is killing me.//
/We’re home safe now, ‘Kura. Marik went to get Therion./
//Marik?! He’s back? How is he? What about Malik? Was he found?//
Ryou removed a card from the deck. /One minute, baby./ “I summon the Earthbound Spirit!”
A dark chasm opened beside the door as a ghoulish head and arms emerged from the pit, groaning and reaching above the hole. “Lord Bakura.....no,” the raspy voice echoed as its head emerged from the abyss. “Master Ryou.”
“Earthbound Spirit, please guard the door. Marik Ishtar will be here shortly. Allow nobody else but him into this house. If you see anyone enter the house, notify us.”
“Yes, master.”
Ryou sat on the couch and closed his eyes. He retreated into his soulroom and quickly opened the door separating his room from Bakura. He walked up to the bed and sat beside Bakura. “I was very worried about you.”
“Why did you summon the Earthbound Spirit?”
Ryou took Bakura’s hand. “After Marik and I left the hospital, something very strange happened. Fireballs fell from the sky.”
Bakura’s eyes widened. “What?!”
“Fireballs fell from the sky. We don’t know where they came from. They smashed into the road beside the car. A giant chasm opened in front of us. Marik’s window was shattered.” Ryou cringed. “He summoned the Winged Dragon of Ra to protect us from the meteor.”
Bakura leaned on one arm and caressed Ryou’s cheek. “Are you alright? Were you hurt?”
“Some glass did get into my face, but at least it wasn’t my eye.”
Bakura’s hand gently cupped Ryou’s face in his hand. “Thank Osiris you weren’t hurt.”
“It was very strange. We were lucky to get back home in one piece.”
Bakura laid back on the bed. “I should have been awake to take over.”
“There’s nothing really you could do. Marik’s a very good defensive driver....and lucky.”
Bakura nodded. “Considering how many times we’ve had to run from the cops after a heist, he’s had to get damn good at it.”
“Since he summoned the Winged Dragon of Ra to protect us in the car, he wanted me to summon a good monster to defend the house.”
“So the Earthbound Spirit?”
Ryou nodded. “He has good defense.”
Bakura rubbed his forehead. “It will do for now.”
Ryou heard the front door slam. “I think Marik is home.”
Ryou opened his eyes in the real world to see Marik closing the door and the Earthbound Spirit raising his arms in the air. Ryou stood up from the couch as a shining light appeared in the living room.
Bakura emerged from the light and saw Marik close the front door. The white-haired yami approached Marik and took the newborn into his arms. “Marik, you had me worried sick!”
“What are you talking about?”
“I found you in the museum!I brought you here and you vanished!”
Marik nodded. “I know.I--.”
Therion looked down at the Earthbound Spirit and smiled. His hand tapped against Bakura’s arm as he tried to reach down to the ghoul.
“I would think he’d be afraid of it,” Ryou said.
Bakura grinned and raised his son in the air. “No. That’s because he’s daddy’s boy, isn’t he?” Therion giggled as Bakura brought him into his arms. “It’s time for the little man to get to bed.”
Yami Marik walked past Bakura and sat on the couch. The Millennium Rod was gripped lightly in his hand as he stared at it longingly.
Ryou watched Bakura carry the baby upstairs. “I’ll be up in a little bit, 'Kura.”
Marik didn’t see Ryou approach him as his hand caressed the Rod. //Malik, can you hear me?//
/Get back here./
Marik narrowed his eyes. //Don’t you take that tone with me!//
/You are my Yami! You belong here with me. You are an Ishtar. Come back, Marik. We can rule together./
“Marik, are you alright?" Ryou asked as he stood in front of Marik.
“Go upstairs with Bakura, Ry. Malik's getting chatty. Perhaps he has seen the error of his ways."
Ryou gave Marik's cheek a quick kiss. “Alright. Try and get some sleep. We've had a long day."
Marik watched Ryou walk up the stairs and heard the subsequent happy coo of the baby. //After what you did to Aten, do you think I’m going to come back there and forgive you?// Marik waited for a response, his eyes glancing at the sentinel Earthbound Spirit. Malik was quiet. //Well? What do you have to say for yourself?//
/I know you have the Winged Dragon of Ra card./
Yami Marik jumped to his feet and gripped the Millennium Rod firmly in hands. //You’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers.//
/You are already dead. Marik, just return it to me. It belongs with the Ishtar family./
//It’s already with the Ishtar family. Me...//
/You are in the past, yami. I am the most recent descendant of the Ishtar line. Hence,it belongs with me./
Marik glared at the wall as if Malik was physically standing before him. //Were you responsible for the meteor shower that nearly flattened Ryou and I?//
/I don’t know what you are talking about. We are talking about MY card./
//That belongs to me. End of story.//
/Yami,nobody has to get hurt over this./
//Are you threatening me, hikari?//
/I want what rightfully belongs to me./
//It’s mine!//
/Fine./
Marik felt the mindlink close abruptly. His lip curled in fury and his hand gripped the Millennium Rod until his knuckles turned white. He grit his teeth and grabbed his deck from his pocket. A moment later, a tall silver-haired vampire stood before him, his purple cloak and jagged edges projected menacingly from his outfit.
“Vampire Lord, you will stand guard. If you see Malik, restrain him and bring him to me. I don’t know what has happened to him, but I will find out.”
“Yes, my Lord Marik.”
Marik walked up the stairs and closed his bedroom door behind him. Malik, what has happened to you? How? Why?
****************
Malik sat on the pharaoh’s throne with a sad sigh. “Marik refused, Odion.”
“Master Malik, don’t be disappointed. Yami Marik tormented you for years. He’s beaten you. Tortured you. A few years of kindness can hardly erase a lifetime of oppression.”
Malik’s shoulders sagged. “I know. I want him here, though. He’s an Ishtar. He belongs here in the tomb with us, his family.”
“You looked angry while you were talking to him.”
“He’s not going to return the Winged Dragon of Ra card.”
“We will get it eventually, Master Malik. In the meantime, you need some time to settle into your new home here and become reacquainted.”
Malik sighed as he replayed the day’s events in his head. ‘Aten should have stayed here. He is an Ishtar.’ Malik’s eyes scanned the crowd of Rare Hunters bowing before him. Many years ago, this made him feel important, powerful, regal. Those feelings sparked inside of him, igniting a piece of his spirit which had longed for such belonging.
Malik stood from the throne. “I need rest.”
“Pleasant dreams, Master Malik,” Odion said with a friendly smile. “I have purchased some necessities for you. Check in your dresser."
Malik walked from the large throne room and into his remodeled bedroom. He removed his shirt and opened one of the dresser drawers. Fresh, clean clothing was folded neatly. “He bought me clothes!” Malik smiled. He changed into clean pajamas and slipped into the bed with clean linens.
“Marik, I would have done anything for you. I would have been your everything. Now you have something I want. Question is....how far will I’m willing to go to obtain it.”
