Chapter 8 ~ The Return Of Anise, Yanna’s Dark Half
After walking back to their room, Izayoi sat on the bed thinking. She needed to let InuTaishou know that Naraku was after their daughter. She also needed to make sure that Yanna was safe. So Izayoi walked over to her closet and pulled out a cloak that she had hidden away from Naraku and put it on. She then very carefully pushed open their bedroom window and climbed out. Izayoi fell the short distance to the ground before she broke out into a run towards the last place she knew that InuTaishou and the boys were at.
“Please be there, my love,” she whispered into the night.
Izayoi continued running until she reached her former husband’s house. She slowly approached the front door, not knowing how she was going to be welcomed. She shakily reached out and lightly knocked on the door. She was ready to walk away when she heard the door open and there stood InuTaishou. Izayoi looked up into his piercing amber-gold eyes. ‘InuTaishou. . .’ she thought to herself.
**At the Taiyoukai house**
InuYasha stopped just short of his bedroom door. He knew he should have told his father about him ditching Yanna on his friends so that he could go and spend some time with Kikyo. He felt bad for what he did to Yanna. InuYasha was about to turn back around and head back towards his father’s study when he heard a knock on the front door.
InuYasha then went over to the top of the stairs and watched as his father opened the front door. He then saw a cloaked figure walk into the house and then his father closed the door. He then watched as his father and the cloaked figure walked out of sight. As curious as InuYasha was, he wanted to know who this cloaked figure was that had come into his territory. InuYasha then growled deep in his chest as he walked back down the stairs towards his father’s study. He gently placed his furry white ear against the door and listened carefully. The scent that he had picked up was one that he hadn’t smelled in a long time. ‘Mom,’ he thought to himself.
**Meanwhile**
InuTaishou had been sitting in his study thinking about what InuYasha had said to him about Yanna. He knew that she was keeping secrets from him. But he also knew that she would tell him in her own way and time. He wasn’t going to push her into telling him because he knew that would only do more harm than good.
InuTaishou reached for his coffee cup and realized that it was empty. He knew that he was going to need another cup since he was going to be up late working. So, InuTaishou got up from behind his desk and headed towards the kitchen. He was almost to the kitchen when he heard a knock on the front door.
“Now who could that be?” InuTaishou asked himself.
He then diverted himself from heading towards the kitchen. He started walking towards the front door instead. Once he reached the door, InuTaishou opened it and saw a cloaked figure standing there. He took one sniff of the scent and knew exactly who it was.
“Izayoi. . .” InuTaishou whispered.
The cloaked figure looked up at him and nodded. “Can I please come in?” the figure asked.
InuTaishou nodded his head as he stepped aside so that the figure could enter the house, neither of them any the wiser that they had someone watching them from the stairs. The two then walked back to his study so that they could talk in private. He needed to know why she would seek him out after all these years.
Once they were in the study, Izayoi removed her cloak and smiled at her former husband. She smiled weakly at him. Now that she was there, Izayoi didn’t know what to say. She had always hoped that she would find InuTaishou and the boys even if Sesshoumaru didn’t like her all that much.
InuTaishou motioned his former wife over to a chair so that she could sit down while he took a seat behind his desk. He looked her up and down and couldn’t believe how awful she looked. He could see the sad look in her eyes. He knew that she was worried about Yanna.
“What brings you here, Izayoi?” InuTaishou said in order to break the silence between them.
Izayoi didn’t say anything at first. She felt the hot tears welling up in her dark brown eyes. She then looked away from him just as her wall broke and the tears fell down her face.
“It. . . it’s about Yanna,” Izayoi said as she looked back up at him.
InuTaishou just looked at her. He had so many questions start to run through his head. He then decided to start with the most important one.
“What about Yanna, Izayoi?” he asked.
Izayoi once again looked away from him. How could she tell him that her new husband, Naraku, was after their one and only daughter. She started to cry even harder. She soon felt two strong arms wrap around her and hold her tight.
InuTaishou couldn’t understand what was making her so upset. So, without warning, InuTaishou got up from behind his desk and walked around it. He then leaned down on one knee and wrapped his arms around Izayoi
“Please tell me, Love,” he said soothingly.
Izayoi soon pulled away from him. She then looked him dead in the eyes as she got ready to answer his question. She still had tears sliding down her face.
“I don’t know how to say this but please understand, my love, that I never had anything to do with it,” Izayoi said.
InuTaishou nodded for her to continue.
“My new husband, Naraku, is after Yanna because of the bracelet that she has on. The one that you gave to her when she was younger,” Izayoi said to him.
InuTaishou couldn’t understand why this man, Naraku, would be after Yanna for the bracelet. It doesn’t really hold any true power other than to keep her demon side under control, or so he thought. He then stood back up with a confused look on his face. He sat back on the edge of his desk and looked at Izayoi.
“Why does he want the bracelet so much?” he asked her with a stern look in his eyes.
Izayoi tried to turn away from his gaze but couldn’t. She was transfixed by his gaze.
“Because he says it holds some sort of power and that Yanna is the key to unlocking it,” Izayoi said as she finally pulled her eyes away from his and buried her face in her hands.
InuTaishou started to growl at what he was just told. Then another set of questions popped into his head. He needed to know who had beaten Yanna six months prior. He then reached down and hooked his finger under Izayoi’s chin and made her look up at him.
“Izayoi, who beat Yanna to the point where she had to be put in the hospital six months ago?” InuTaishou asked harshly.
Izayoi tried to look away from him but he held her chin firmly. She knew deep down that it was her fault for Naraku beating Yanna in the first place.
“He did it. Naraku beat Yanna. He had been beating her since she was eleven,” Izayoi said crying.
InuTaishou just looked at Izayoi. So that is what Yanna had been hiding from him. He could feel the anger welling up in him.
“No one hits Yanna and gets away with it. That would explain why she has been shying away from everyone but InuYasha here lately,” InuTaishou whispered to himself.
Just then, InuTaishou and Izayoi heard someone or something kick the doors to the study. Izayoi nearly jumped out of her skin while InuTaishou growled. He walked over to the doors and threw them opened to see InuYasha standing there.
“Hi, dad,” InuYasha said smiling.
**With InuYasha**
InuYasha couldn’t believe what he had been hearing through the door. So his mother had married the person who was responsible for beating his baby sister. InuYasha started to get angry even though he already knew that Naraku was responsible for beating Yanna. In his need to vent some of his pent up anger, InuYasha accidentally kicked the door.
“Uh oh,” InuYasha whispered.
He then heard someone get up and start approaching the door. InuYasha started to panic because as far as his father knew he had gone to bed. He quickly started to get up to run back towards the stairs when the door was practically ripped open. He looked up and saw his father towering over him.
“Hi, dad,” InuYasha said smiling.
InuTaishou just looked down at his son. He couldn’t believe that his son would eavesdrop like that. He then picked InuYasha up by his arm and dragged him into the study. He then threw InuYasha into one of the empty chairs and scowled at him. InuYasha tried to blend in with the chair under his father’s gaze.
“Why aren’t you in bed, InuYasha?” InuTaishou asked him.
InuYasha looked away from his father and to the cloaked figure sitting in the chair next to him. He couldn’t see the person’s face but he pretty much knew who it was. InuYasha then looked away from the cloaked figure in the chair and then to the floor. He knew that he had to tell his father the truth. Just then, InuYasha looked up at his father.
“Dad, I am sorry for ditching Yanna on my friends this morning. But I. . .” InuYasha said as he looked away from his father once more.
InuTaishou continued to look at his son. He knew that eventually InuYasha would tell him the true reason why Yanna was with Ryou.
“Finish, InuYasha,” InuTaishou said sternly to his son.
InuYasha shook visibly at the sound of his father’s voice. He knew that when his father used that one that he was in some serious trouble.
“I spent the day with Kikyo,” InuYasha finally said.
He didn’t dare look at his father. InuYasha already knew that he was in trouble. He just hoped that Yanna was safe.
**Meanwhile**
Bakura had finished with Yanna’s shoulder. He gently picked her up and sat down on the couch once more with her cradled in his lap. He held onto her protectively as if daring anyone to try and take her from him. The others looked on but kept their distance from the white-haired yami. Yami and Marik both knew that Bakura would kill anyone who tried to take Yanna away from him. He was bent on getting revenge not only for Yanna but also for Anise as well.
Ryou went to reach out and touch Yanna’s forehead but was stopped when he heard a growling noise come from both Bakura and Yanna. He pulled his hand away and looked down at the girl in Bakura’s arms only to see that it wasn’t Yanna but someone else. Everyone in the room had also noticed that the girl in Bakura’s arms wasn’t Yanna.
Yami was the first one to recognize the girl in his friend’s arms.
“Anise. . .” Yami whispered.
The girl in Bakura’s arms looked up at the spiky-haired yami and smiled. She was wondering how long it was going to take for her brother to realize that it was her and not Yanna.
“Hello, Brother. Glad to see me,” Anise said to her brother.
Marik couldn’t believe that he was staring at Anise. He could have sworn that it was still Yanna. The only difference between the two girls was the length of their hair.
~*Welcome to the land of the living, your highness.*~ Marik said to Anise.
Anise just smiled at her old friend. It had been so long since she had been called that. That was when Anise felt three other pairs of eyes on her. She looked up at Ryou, Yugi, and Malik. She couldn’t believe how much they looked like their dark halves.
“Who. . .who are you?” Yugi asked Anise.
Anise looked over at Yami’s hikari and smiled. She knew that she had some explaining to do before the others started to freak out on her.
“My name is Anise. And like you three,” Anise said as she pointed to Yugi, Ryou, and Malik. “I am Yanna’s yami or dark half. I am the resident of the Millennium Bracelet.”
Bakura just smiled to himself as he continued to hold Anise. He refused to look up at the others. He then loosened his grip on Anise so that she could sit up better. Bakura then felt Anise slide off of him so she could sit on the arm of the couch. That was when he looked up at everyone else.
Ryou just looked at Anise. He couldn’t believe how much she looked like Yanna. Just then, Ryou had to know where Yanna was at.
“Anise, where exactly is Yanna?” Ryou asked solemnly.
Upon hearing Ryou’s question, Anise looked at the three other yamis in the room before she looked up at Ryou. She saw Bakura nod to her out of the corner of her right eye. She knew that he was basically giving her permission to tell his hikari and the others where Yanna was at.
“She is in her soul room inside the bracelet. Like you three,” she said as she once again pointed to the three young hikaris, “she has also has a room that she can escape to when things get bad.”
Bakura then looked up at the clock on the wall and noticed that it was getting late. He then stood up with Anise in his arms, bridal style.
“It’s getting late. We all need to get some sleep before all hell breaks loose,” Bakura said as he slowly made his way towards the stairs.
Yami and Marik nodded their heads in agreement with Bakura. They both knew that he was right about what was about to happen.
“Good night, Bakura and Anise,” they all chimed in at the same time.
Bakura and Anise disappeared up the stairs to his room. They had a lot to talk about. Once at the top of the stairs, Bakura then proceeded to walk to his room. He had made it to his room in no time. He walked into the room and set Anise down on her feet as he went over and changed the sheets on the bed since they still had the blood on them from when Yanna had bit his shoulder.
Anise had shut the door and leaned up against it, watching her former love. She smiled to herself as she continued to watch him. She could tell that he had changed over the years. When she realized that he was almost done with the bed, Anise made her way over to it. She sat down on the edge of the bed and looked up at Bakura.
“I see that my hikari has marked you as I once did,” Anise said, trying to get him to talk to her.
Bakura stopped what he was doing and looked at Anise. He could always get lost in her eyes. There was something about her amber-gold eyes that would always hypnotize him. He loved and missed that. Now that Yanna was in his life, he was able to get lost in her eyes as well. There had to be something about a female dog demon’s eyes that was so hypnotizing. Bakura’s hand immediately went to his left shoulder where Yanna had only bitten him hours beforehand.
“It appears that she did,” Bakura said quietly.
Anise then climbed across the bed so that she could look him the eyes even better. She needed to know what else was plaguing his mind. She could tell just by the look in his eyes that he was worried about Yanna. She had to reassure him that her hikari was okay.
“Bakura, Yanna is okay. As a matter of fact, she is sleeping peacefully for the first time since Naraku had come into her life. I can reassure you that she feels safe with you around,” Anise said reassuredly to him. “Now come to bed, Love.”
Bakura nodded his head as he climbed into the bed with Anise. He knew that she was right about Yanna being safe inside the bracelet. He settled down and pulled Anise close to him. He felt her nestle herself deep within his side. He smiled as they both drifted off to sleep that night.
**Downstairs**
Ryou and the others watched as Bakura carried Anise up the stairs. They were able to tell that there was something more bothering Bakura. They just hoped that Anise would be able to get it out of Bakura.
“So, where are we going to sleep?” Malik asked as he pointed to himself, Marik, Yami, and Yugi.
Ryou just looked at them and smiled.
“Well, there is the couch and the living room floor. But I am going to leave the fight up to you all because I am going up to bed. See ya in the morning,” Ryou said as he made his way towards the stairs and up to his room.
“We call the couch,” Marik and Malik said at the same time.
Yami glared at the two of them.
“That would mean that Yugi and I have the floor,” Yami said more as a statement than a question.
Marik and Malik both nodded their heads as they climbed on the couch and cuddled close to each other. They had covered themselves up with the blanket that was on Ryou earlier. The two blond Egyptians slowly drifted off to sleep.
Yugi had gone to the hall closet and pulled out extra blankets for him and Yami. Yami had pulled the extra pillows off of the two chairs. Yugi came back with the blankets and they both laid down on the floor and drifted off to sleep themselves.
**Upstairs**
Ryou made it to his room and walked in. He slowly trudged over to his bed and collapsed onto it. He couldn’t believe what had transpired that day. He eventually curled up into a ball and fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.
**Back at the Taiyoukai house**
InuTaishou was angry at InuYasha for dumping Yanna on his friends. But he had decided that he would deal with his son in the morning since it was getting late. He continued to look sternly at InuYasha.
“Go to bed, InuYasha. We will finish this in the morning,” InuTaishou said to his son.
InuYasha got up from the chair and once again made the trek up to his room. He felt bad for lying to his father earlier. But now that he had told his father the truth, he felt a little bit better. His ears had drooped so they were flat against his head. And if he had a tail, it would be tucked between his legs.
InuYasha had reached the top of the stairs when he was pulled out of his thoughts.
“Running scared, are we, Little Brother?” Sesshoumaru said.
InuYasha just ignored his older brother as he walked to his room and shut the door. He went over to his bed and collapsed onto it and immediately fell into a restless sleep.
Sesshoumaru walked back into his room and shut the door.
Downstairs in the study, InuTaishou had helped Izayoi to her feet. He walked her to the door and saw her out.
“I really must be going. Naraku is going to be furious with me if he finds out I was here,” Izayoi said to her one true love.
“You have my number if he does anything to hurt you,” InuTaishou said as he watched her leave his life once more.
Izayoi nodded her head and started back off towards the house that she shared with Naraku. She had made back to the house as quietly as she could. She slowly and quietly opened the front door and entered the house. She was about to shut the door when she felt a strong hand on her shoulder.
“And where have you been?” a voice said behind her.
Izayoi froze in her tracks. She had to think of a good excuse for her being out this late at night. She closed the door and slowly turned around to look into Naraku’s red eyes.
“I went for a walk,” she said as she pushed past him and headed towards their room.
Naraku followed after his wife. He knew that she was lying to him but he decided to let it slide since he too was tired. They both reached the room at the same time. Izayoi went to her side of the bed while Naraku went to his. They both climbed into the bed and sleep quickly overtook both of them.
**Meanwhile**
InuTaishou had watched Izayoi run from the house like the dogs of hell were at her heels. Once she was out of sight, he closed and locked the door. He then made his way up to his own room, thinking as he went. He was going to get to the bottom of everything in the morning, even if that meant that he would have Ryou bring Yanna home so they could all talk. He reached his room in no time and walked in. He quietly shut his door behind him, not wanting to wake his sons, and made his way over to his bed. InuTaishou climbed into his bed and just laid there as he continued to ponder what Izayoi had told him about their daughter. Before he knew it, his body had succumbed to the darkness of sleep.
