Seto sat in his office, thinking about things that had been happening recently in his life. Just this week to be more specific. He was having dreams. Not just any dreams either. Dreams filled with violet eyes and pale skin, soft voices just on the edge of recognition. Dreams filled with pleasure, and nightmares of blood. It was driving him crazy. Not only was he having dreams, he still had to go to school and see Yugi’s seat empty, which worried him, but he wasn’t sure why. He thought perhaps he should know the reason Yugi was gone but every time he tried to remember, it hurt.
(You are my sunshine)
He was aware, however, that when Yugi had spent the week around him earlier in the month, his days hadn’t seemed quite so dull and pointless. Yugi always seemed to sense what he needed before he knew himself. And if Yugi didn’t know, Yami knew. He makes up his mind to ask Yugi, just as soon as he sees him again.
(My only sunshine)
No one else affected him like this. He could live without most of them and had. Anyone except Yugi, and perhaps Yami, but he had no intention of telling the pharaoh that. Sighing to himself, Seto doesn’t realize he’s absently staring at the door to his office until it opens to reveal the two currently occupying his thoughts. He blinks at them in surprise as Yami locks the door behind them.
(You make me happy, when skies are gray.)
Hearing Yugi behind him he turns in time to see him close the curtains on the window, shutting out the gray sky.
“Can I help you?” he asks softly as he watches Yugi move towards him, listening to Yami move up behind his chair. Yami pulls his chair back a little as Yugi startles him by sitting on his lap.
“Yugi?” The small teen smiles slightly at him, saying, “Kaiba?” briefly before catching Seto’s face in his hands and kissing him softly on the lips.
“We love you, Kaiba.” Yami whispers in his ear before giving it a small lick. At the feel of Yugi and Yami surrounding him, Seto surrenders and wraps his arms around Yugi’s waist. He kisses the boy fiercely at first, enjoying the soft whimper of pleasure drawn from him. Not to be forgotten, Yami leans in for his own kiss and Seto finds himself being gentler than he’d thought he would ever be when kissing him.
(You’ll never know dear…)
Seto tries his best to show them what he can’t say, in case he doesn’t get this chance again. He doesn’t want them to not know how he feels and he has a strange feeling that he won’t be seeing them again. Shaking the thought from his mind, (Stupid, why wouldn’t I be seeing them again?) He feels Yami rest his head on his shoulder and his arms wrap around him from behind, squeezing him slightly.
(How much I love you.)
He wonders to himself how he can say everything to these people, the two who mean everything to him, and not be able to say three little words. He wants to say them, has been dying to say them for sometime, but he just hasn’t been able to. Seto rubs his cheek against Yami’s as he thinks about all the things they’ve done for him, even though he’d always claimed he never wanted anyone’s help. How they scolded some of the others at school for saying things and went out of their way to cheer him up. Though, again, he never managed to say or show anything. He shs ats at the feeling of Yugi’s breath on his cheek and lightly kisses the boy, trying to put his emotions into it.
(Please don’t take my sunshine away)
He hid his face against Yugi’s neck again as he feels them both wrap their arms around his body.
“Please don’t leave me.” He whispers against pale skin. Violet eyes meet each other for a moment in perfect understanding, and sadness over his head. Yugi carefully places his millennium puzzle on the desk before kissing the top of Seto’s head. Yami nods his approval at both actions before doing the same.
(The other night dear, as I lay sleeping)
He licked Yugi’s neck briefly before nibbling on it as Yami did the same to his. So clever the two were that Seto never saw the sadness haunting their eyes, the regret.
“I love you.” Seto surprises them by saying softly. They had never thought to hear him say it, though they knew he tried to show it in any and every way he could think of.
(I dreamt I held you in my arms)
Seto stands and walks over to the couch in his office, smiling when Yami sits with them so he could hold them both against him at once. Content, he drifts off toep, ep, their scent and presence keeping the dreams and nightmares away. Safe in the comfort of their arms and relaxed by their quiet breaths.
(When I awoke dear, I was mistaken)
A few hours later Seto wakes up to a knock on his door, followed by the sound of it opening. Looking around the room he sees no evidence the two had been there other than Yugi and Yami’s puzzles on his desk, which had defiantly not been there before.
“Mr. Kaiba?” he hears Serenity, his secretary, ask.
“Yes?”
“Have you been here all night?” she looks him over as she ask, thinking she sees some black, gold, and maroon hair on his clothes, but dismissing the idea as ridiculous.
“I guess so.” He replies.
“It’s almost time for the Motou’s funerals, sir.” She reminds him gently, and sees something in his dark blue eyes shatter before they fall shut. He closes his hand around the puzzle.
(And I hung my head, and cried.)
Silent tears fell down his face, tracing crystalline tracks down his cheeks, as he remembered, very reluctantly, for the first time in a week what had happened. What had been haunting his dreams. The fire that had taken the game store, and Yugi, Yami, and their grandfather from him. Seto opens his eyes when he hears Serenity’s soft gasp. Sitting on his desk is a box. Slipping the cord for Yugi’s puzzle around his neck, he hands Serenity the other one, muttering Joey’s name as he opens his gift with shaking fingers. Small presents, labeled for Yugi’s friends are inside. Items that had burned. He found the one with his name on it. It had a few of Yugi’s favorite cards and a simple gold band that he slips on his finger as he reads the note that had been inside, written on the back of the paper. The single sentence drives him to tears again and he offers no resistance when Serenity gently takes the paper and reads it. Her eyes well up with tears at the simple words, “See how much we love you.”
