CHAPTER ONE

Jou's POV:

Yes, the 'lone wolf' Jounouchi Katsuya, walking around in the cold, damp streets(From the rain that had just past moments before) doing nothing much, but thinking how life really "did" suck...

I mean, sure, I could go back to my own home and get the crap beat out of me from my dad for being late coming home again.

Then~ lay in my bed, trying my best to ignore the pain(Both psychically and mentally)...Proving how much my life just plain sucked (Yup, there's that vague word again...)

Now, you probably think I cry all the time(anywhere I can be alone) like some pathetic two year old. But, I really don't.

I mean...Crying never led you anywhere in life, right? Right...

I breathed out a hot, moist air from my lungs. I watched the badly drawn looking circle with amusement before it took action and faded away. (Bye, bye Mr. Air....! )

I finally slumped against an alley closest to me that I could find. Then, dropped my head just above(and over) my chest.

Noticing a homeless person with his mangled up, my eyes began to soften just a bit.(Such a freakin' sad sight to see...) How they serached through that trash can for food wanted me to do something out of charity...

The scruffy man, with his beard just as mangled as his pet's fur(Also, the man's hair and facial hair were both very grey, besides the dirt and what-not in it), just happened to notice me...He then stared at me in a way that didn't tell me to back away and run... (Which, if I had to...I would.)

'Hey, kid, can you help me?' The words didn't even have to come out of that homeless person's mouth as I knew why he was staring at me awkwardly.

Fishing through my pockets, I checked to see, and did find(Luckily...Heh) a dollar in the front right pocket.

I handed it off to the man, feeling not so depressed when I noticed his cold blue eyes turn a lighter shade of ocean blue(It was strange...You should have been there!)

"Thank you...!" He croaked a bit, but even when he coughed to straighten up his throat, his voice was still ragged, rough, and deep.

I jus blinked when he picked himself off of the floor where he sat next to the trash can, taking his dog to buy some sort of food(...I wonder if he bought himself something nice...).

Seto's POV:

"Hn...What a day," I spoke to myself. The day had been rough, I admitted to myself...

First, my employee(Who I only hired about a month ago), started to flirt and hit on me by accidentally dropping a cup of coffee(Which was 'surprising' not hot as usual) on my lap, then seductively asked if she could 'clean up the mess'.

I believe, and I could be correct, that this co-worker could be a whore: She wears inappropriate outfits in my offices and meetings(Such as skinny tight, and leather pants to show her un-attractive ass).

Christ, why did I even hire that slut of a woman!? ....I mean Fucking Jes-..! ...Never mind.(Rather not go there...)

Second incident that happen to me today was that Mokuba was ill, and had to be taken home from school be me, because my drive(and personal butler for the most part) was lucky to have his his day off today.

So, I missed some of my classes of school and meetings from my business taking care of my little brother since somehow, and I'm not sure how or why, were all off from work.

I think, and I may be right, Mokuba probably wanted to be kind to my staff and let them all off today... I wish I could yell at him for such a thing, but I'm not that cruel hearted to scold my little brother while he's sick.
(Yes...I'm not that cruel...)

Still, how wonderful it is to miss all those important meetings, and classes...Damn, I just remembered, in History class we were all assigned partners...Just great.

Leaning up on the edge where the car door met the window, I sighed out while driving down a quiet little street that seemingly looked like the bad-side of New York. Then, out of no-where, I noticed a figure squirming and moving in the shadows of an alley.

At first, I felt like moving along and getting home, but then...The figure(While squinting) seemed a bit familiar...And the blonde hair... Could it be...?

Hitting the breaks with somewhat force(Letting the wheels of my car slide against the left-overs of the rain), I completely stopped the car in front of the alley.

I headed inside the ghetto(Well, half ghetto, half decent) area, in search for the mysterious young man.
When I finally 'found' him, I noticed he didn't give much of a care of the figure aside him, he found that focusing on a piece of gum on the cemented ground more amusing.

It was Katsuya...I should have known.

The poor, innocent puppy was all wet from the early day's rain...(I wonder why my puppy is out here...)

"Hello..." His eyes glided over to my own, just after my deep voice interrupted his concentration, locking his chocolate colored orbs into my own, harsh blue ones.

"Hey..."

Letting the moment of eyes locking eyes get me a bit uncomfortable, I shifted my feet a bit and questioned,"You alright, mutt?"

He cringed at the nick name, and barked at me.

"Yes, dammit, I'm fine!" He growled,"Don't call me a mutt, 'kay, Kaiba!?" I backed away slightly, but instead of him jumping the on me and trying to pound me into a pulp(Ha...Like he could do that!) he just sighed an dropped his head.

At this point I wondered if he'd been crying...Stains from tears could be noticed on his paling cheeks.
"No can do, Mutt...But, I can can help you if you want.." I continued after just a few moments of watching him,"...What's wrong?"

"Nothin'..."

"Not true..." I argued.

"Yes, it is..."

"No, it's not..."

He paused when I settled myself next to him. Maybe he was scared because I never really shown him any affection(Yes, affection...) over the time we're known each other.

Finally, he spoke in almost a whisper tone,"Kaiba...? What are you doin'?"

"What...?" I 'playfully' asked,"Is it a crime to sit next to Jounouchi Katsuya?"

He didn't even lift his up at me after my 'answer' (Really and remark, actually...)

At this point I wondered if I noticed his tear-stained face, and if he did, I wonder if was embarrassed with himself.

My fingers led themselves under his chin, lifting his face to my level,"What's wrong?" I wanted to smirk from how close are faces were without the dog-brain of his would even notice.

His blonde swayed slightly while he shook his head in protest, his ragged breath touched my own lips(Very arousing...Heh).

"Kaiba..." Whispered Jou(Did...Did I just call him Jou?), His Brooklyn accent softening.

"Kaiba...I'm fine...Don't worry fer me, 'kay?" (Bullshit...)

Now, I don't know why, but this statement made me a little ticked off,"Listen, mutt. I want to help you...Let me help you, dammit!"

Wasn't I just the greatest helper in the world? I forcefully grabbed the pup's arms, and then began to shake him from his 'I don't want you're help' trance,"Listen to me Katsuya...! I want to HELP...! It's not a-...!"

I felt my back-bone hit against the rough material of the cement, and what covered the cement when Jou shoved me away from him, yelping. "G-Get away! Yer Hurtin' Me!"

I stared in confusion as Katsuya curled himself into a tight ball and started to shake. What in the hell happened to him?

I tried to keep in character as I asked in a rude manner,"Mutt...Why are crying like some sort of five year old?"

"Shut up, you jackass..." Sniffled back Katsuya.

As a dog would have done to threat, he jumped me and began swing at me, while bearing his teeth and growling.

He missed his targets(My Jaw and right cheek) as I simple dodged them with a swift move of my body. He never seemed to be able to fight me and actually accomplish in beating me.

I caught his flying fists, grimacing at the small sting in my palms. As I leaned over, he struggled more and more, hoping he could escape from my taller, and supposedly stronger, body.

"Please Let go of me...!" His eyes widen at the smirk that I gave off, staring at it like it was pure evil...

He begged loudly. People stared(Stared at me like I was some rapist ready to attack this young body...)...And the funny part was, I honestly didn't care. I wanted to know what was wrong with my puppy.

"No..." In a quite tone, I continued,"Now..Tell me what's wrong.."

He yelped once more after a squeezed one of his wrists(Which my hand slid to after I leaned into him to sort of hold him).

"Fine, fine! I'll tell you, you stupid basterd!" He shoved me far from him, but luckily I didn't hit cement floor this time. Any contact I had from him was lost as I gradually let go of small wrist.

"My...My father beats at times, and today was one of his drinkin' days...So, he was in a sour days and he beat me," A now pale face turned its direction away from me, while eyes closed with dread.

Once his eyes were fully closed, mine began to widen with horror(They were practically the size of saucers...). Someone...No...Katsuya's father beats him...

"Why!? Why in the hell does he beat you!?" I hollered at Jou, but not exactly directly at the whimpering boy.

"I-I don't know why he does, he just does..."

He just does... Right. That doesn't cut it for me... I need more of a better reason. But~ I guess I will a reason later, right now I have something more important to attend to...

Katsuya slumped against the wall, letting clothing tear and get dirty from the walls, when his backbone just barely touched the ground I scooped him up.

'He must be weak, he isn't fighting me for release or making snot-nose remarks at me...' I thought to myself.

"I'm going to take you my place to get you cleaned up," I explained to him, but he only nodded and snuggled my trench-coat(Which was white at the time...).

'I'll need to take care of that father of his...' I climbed back into my car after settling Katsuya in the passenger's side.
