The deep baritone of Yami's voice called out to Tea Gardner even as she felt herself falling further and further into the black abyss. His screams slowly faded as the darkness grew wider and consciousness dragged on, slowly slipping away from her. The last thing Tea remembered was the look of anguish in the Pharoah's crimson eyes, before they too disappeared, and she descended into a damnable hell. Dark water surged up, submurging her within its frigid embrace.
Silence.
A deep, nothingless void.
It surrounded her, allowing her limp body to float within its smothering presence. Tea's subconscious thoughts remained active despite the fact that she had passed out as soon as her head had sunk beneath the water. And then, the silence was disrupted as sound came raging forth, consuming and filling the empty void in which she resided.
Sudden warmth engulfed her body as consciousness languidly paced itself back to her jaded understanding. She felt herself rising up from the dark prison and her sapphire-hued eyes flew open, but quickly closed again due to the unwelcome brightness of the milky white moon. It was then that she realized that her body was above ground and moving. On instinct her hand clutched the closest thing available.
The extremity grasped a thick vinyl material, and in curiousity she traced her fingers along it, roaming higher until they met with cool flesh. Her brows drew together in consternation as she once more attempted to open her eyes, this time more slowly, to allow adjustment. Once she had accomplished this task, Tea allowed her head to tilt to the side, her eyes taking in a vast wall of deep indigo. Following the wall upward, she then saw that it soon ended and its path was continued by cream colored flesh that made up a long and eloquent neck. Further still, Tea looked, and soon her eyes reached the face that sat perched atop the neck, and found them captivated by the intense aqua gaze of none other than the Dark Magician.
Her mind raced as confusion clouded her head. Could this even be possible? Had reality slipped so far away that she had become delusional? Her eyes never left the aqua gaze as she tried to string words together to form a question, any question.
"Is this real?" Was the only thing that seemed to surface. She saw the card character's eyes soften as he diverted his gaze forward, continuing to carry her away to a destination unknown to her.
Since he remained unresponsive, Tea tried to wiggle free of his snug hold. Her attempts were in vain as his grip on her forearm and midthigh became strict. Reluctantly, she gave into his unyielding grasp, surprisingly taking comfort in his powerful hold.
A massive roaring sound emerged from behind them, causing Tea to crane her neck in order to look over the Dark Magician's broad shoulder. The sight caused her heartbeat to speed up as she watched the towering walls of water, which obviously had been held back by magic, come crashing down again to submerge the landscape once more. Comprehension dawned upon Tea then. The Dark Magician had rescued her, had in fact, saved her life. Turning wide, disbelieving blue eyes back at the... man... carrying her, Tea could only stare in awe.
Realizing that she was drenched, she looked down at her body to find all of her clothing stuck to her, revealing two small pert nubs through the thin button up blouse that clung to her. With wide eyes she quickly wrapped her arms around her chest in hopes of preserving her modesty.
"Wh-where are we go-going?" Her teeth chattered as the wind continued to assault her damp body.
The magician gave no answer but came to a halt in front of a large stone wall that seemed to be part of an immense mountain. Bowing his head and closing his eyes in what appeared to be concentration, the ground suddenly began to quake and Tea absently circled her arms around his neck to keep from falling from his arms. A rumble was heard, almost deep enough to unnerve Kami himself. Then, squeezing her eyes shut and gripping the card character closer, she could hear the sound of rocks and boulders falling down the peak. Soon she felt small pebbles pelt her bare arms as she let a high-pitched scream escape her lips.
The ground slowly became still once more and all sound of movement seemed to dissipate as well. Her screams died down, though her grip on him never loosened and her head was kept buried in the crook of his neck for sanctuary. She felt his body tense as if ready to move again and just like that he silently began to progress forward, as if nothing at all had happened.
Tea risked a peek from where her face was pressed against the cool flesh of the Dark Magician's neck to see that there was now a small opening in the wall where there previously had been none. She looked back at his face and he gazed at her from the corner of his eyes, while keeping a steady pace into the excavation he had seemingly created.
When they entered the cave, the opening provided the only light, but with their backs towards it, the cave was pitch black. Tea began to shiver as a foreboding feeling washed over her. The fact that this man had yet to say anything to her, not to mention she didn't have the slightest idea of where she was, made her uneasy. Not that the magician presented any kind of threat, but so far the events that had unfolded as of late weren't something that Tea was exactly used to.
While lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice the card character's hand remove itself from her forearm to reside in midair as if reaching out to grab something. Neither did she observe his summoning staff materialize in his outstretched hand. It was the sudden roar of a flame coming to life that startled her out of her musings, causing her to give a quick yip in surprise. She glanced at the flame and back to his face and she was more than sure that she saw a small gleam of amusement in his eyes, but it was gone before she could clarify her assumption.
The awkwardness that hung in the air seemed even worse now that he was just holding her and not moving or saying anything. The only noise that could be heard was the bright flames of the fire, giving hungry bellows for it to be fed; yet it never wavered or died out. She stared at him intently, waiting for him to let her down, but he only returned the intense gaze without words and showed no signs of putting her down any time soon.
She got an itch in her throat and let out an uncomfortable cough, breaking eye contact with him to stare at ground that, at the moment, looked pretty far down. She gathered all her courage to break the silence and try not to sound like a nervous fool.
"Can I get down now, please?" She kept her eyes focused on the ground, finding his gaze to be quite intimidating.
As usual he gave no reply, but she saw the floor of the cave coming closer as he knelt gracefully onto one knee, releasing her onto the ground so gently that she did not feel any impact at all when being placed upon the cool, stone surface. She shot a look at him accompanied by a deep red bush tinting her cheeks. He was so swift and his movements were so fluid, it gave her chills that he was being so gentle with her, yet she still wasn't sure of his intentions.
"Th-thank you." She stuttered, moving slightly away from the intimidating figure and closer to the fire which promised such warmth that it seemed to beckon her. The magician still did not reply, instead he continued to intently watch her as she scooted away from him.
Tea diverted her eyes to the crackling fire, watching the orange and red flames flicker playfully with yellow and blue. 'It's almost as if they were dancing,' She thought.
The silence stretched out until it was nearly unbearable for Tea, causing the distressed girl to once again glance in the Dark Magician's direction. She met his gaze for he was still staring at her, causing her to become all the more unnerved.
'This is crazy,' Tea thought to herself. 'There's got to be an explanation for all this... and something tells me that he knows what it is.'"Where is this place?" She asked, hoping to the Kamis that he would answer this question, but it seemed the Kamis' were busy doing something else because the magician only continued to stare as if she were some fascinating creature he was trying to analyze. It made her quiver, not in a bad way though.
His gaze moved downward, past her eyes, to trail over her most intimate curves, slowly trailing her long, pale legs that were stretched out across the floor comfortably as they took in the warmth from the fire. She followed his gaze, becoming inwardly shocked at how he scanned her body so openly. A heavy dose of self-consciousness hit her full force as, with another blush tainting her already flushed cheeks, she pulled her legs up to her chest, blocking any view the magician once had of her upper body. This time, the small proof that she seemed to provide some kind of amusement for him remained on his face in the form of a thin smirk.
'Oh great, I must look like a drowned rat.' She mused, rolling her eyes. Instead of self-consciousness and uneasiness continuing to eat away at her, it was anger that took its toll, her patience having worn a bit thin. Huffing, Tea pushed herself up onto her feet and stood over the still kneeling form of the Dark Magician.
"Are you able to talk? Because I would really like some answers. Like what is going on here." She chided, her voice high with asperity.
Slowly he moved his vision up her lengthy legs, past her curves back to the pit of her bright blue eyes which smoldered with all the many emotions that he seemed to be so captivated with. Yet, once again, he failed to answer her.
Tea let an exasperated sigh escape her as she saw a deeper fascination fill his aqua orbs. He just seemed to be mute to her. Finding that he wouldn't provide any kind of information she needed, Tea spoke again, but this time with a softer tone.
"I'm thankful that you helped me, but since you can't help me any further, I'm going to try and find out where I am and where my friends are. Thanks, again."
With that, she walked around him, toward the cave opening. Just as she reached the mouth of the shelter, a sudden flare of lightening streaked across the darkened sky, its spidery tendrils reaching out in earnest. With a startled squeal, Tea took a step back away from the opening.
"Oh, no! Don't tell me it's going to rain." She whined.
The deep, throaty rumble of thunder was her response and as if on que the rain followed, pouring down heavily. She tried looking past the rain, but came to the realization that it was impossible. The ferocity of the downpour was so impenetrable she couldn't make anything out past her stone refuge.
There was no possible explanation as to how it had just started raining out of the blue. If she weren't mistaken, when she had been carried here the moon had been bright enough to blind her, not a cloud in the sky to sheild its brightness. But this.... nothing could explain this. Except...
Her eyes widening in revelation, Tea spun back around toward the card character, only to find her nose buried in his chest. She took another careful step back, placing her hands on her dainty hips as she did so, and narrowed her eyes at the magician.
"Did you just do that?" She asked accusingly, removing her left hand from its place on her hip to point behind her to the storm still raging outside. Quickly she shook her head, causing the air-dried, shoulder length strands of hair to assault each other, "Who am I kidding, I'm sure you won't even answer."
She looked down to the ground, trying to think of something that could help her get out of this mess. And she came up with nothing. Absolutely nothing. Giving one last glance to the commotion outside, Tea sighed, pushing past the tall figure to head back toward the undying embers of the fire. She planted herself next to it, sitting Indian style and propping her elbows on her knees, allowing her chin to rest on her balled fists.
She looked back at the Dark Magician, who had soundlessly sat himself a few feet away from her. He returned eye contact, but she broke it by averting her gaze, yet again, to instead stare at the relentless flames. There was just something about him that made her not able to be mad at him anymore, even though she really wanted to be.
She shivered as a gust of wind made its way past her from the cave's opening, despite the heat, which the small fire provided. It didn't give enough warmth, and now that it was colder outside due to the abrupt change in climate, the temperature within the cave was dropping steadily.
Her jaw began to tremble as the air slowly turned from tepid to frigid. She shifted, intending to throw an accusing glare at her unusual company, but saw only an empty space. Eyes widening in surprise, she was just about to call his card given name when she felt the weight of material being draped over her now shaking shoulders.
She looked upward to see the pointed tip of her companion's curved hat crowning over her head. She moved her vision lower to see, once more, his intense celadon depths, staring intently. Glancing at the fabric that brought on a bit more warmth in the cold cave, Tea realized that is was his cape-like jacket. She decided that the Dark Magican's cape was all for show. However warm the thick folds looked, it was not material warm enough to sustain a storm like this.
Her shivers abated slightly, but still her bottom lip refused to cease its constant quiver. That is, until a long, slender finger was placed upon it lightly, the warmth radiating from the digit causing the movement to still as her lips parted in a gasp of surprise. The warmth traveled down her cheek, and hovered just above her shoulders, causing her to leaned into his touch, like a moth drawn to a flame.
A breathy sigh escaped her as the hand moved to cradle the side of her face, her cheek resting neatly into the cupped palm. Tea's eyelids grew heavy as fatigue began to take their toll. Soon, she felt her body begin to go slack, her eyes closing in exhaustion as she leaned back against the warm wall the magician's chest made behind her. With such support from behind, Tea didn't need to move to the fire.... She lazily thought that the Dark Magician was more than enough reason to stay put. She didn't need or want to move.
