Just Because
Ryou sat in his large bedroom listening to his Staind cd, ’14 Shades of Gray’, but he could hear Bakura’s Godsmack cd, “Faceless” very well through the other wall. Ryou sighed at his desk, trying to finish his homework, finding it hard to concentrate due to his depression and the two different songs conflicting with each other. Soon, Ryou gave up and turned his cd off and put up with Bakura’s music. //I hate chemistry// Ryou thought, closing his books and giving up on the problems; he was a quitter, just like Bakura would tell him. His yami didn’t beat him much, but anytime the spirit could, he’d put Ryou down in any way he could, finding the hikari’s sad/disappointed face amusing. Ryou was startled out of his thoughts when the phone rang.
“Ryou residence, this is Bakura speaking” Ryou answered politely.
“Little Bakura? Oh, you sound so grown up!” came an old woman’s voice in a strong English accent..
Ryou’s eyes widened in happiness, “Grandma?” he asked.
“Yes, dear, it’s me! How is my favorite grandson?” the woman asked with a kind laugh.
“I’m your only grandson” Ryou laughed, “I’m doing…ok, I’m doing fine. Um, father’s not here right now…” Ryou explained.
“Oh, I know, poor dear…your father called me and told me I should come visit you, he even got the plane tickets for me and your grandpa, but your silly father forget that his father-in-law past away two years ago, all well” the woman chuckled.
“He’s busy a lot” Ryou quickly reasoned for his father, “So, you’re coming here then? All the way from England?” Ryou asked.
“Yes, honey, don’t you want me to come?” the woman asked.
“Oh, yes, of course, I’d love for you to visit!!! I can’t wait…when should I expect you?” Ryou asked.
“Thursday, about noon, your time” the woman answered.
“That would be great, it’ll be nice to see you” Ryou said kindly, “talk to you then, love you grandma.”
“Love you too dear! See you soon!” Ryou could feel the kind woman’s smile as she hung up her phone.
“How cute, granny’s coming to visit” a mocking voice chuckled behind Ryou.
Ryou turned around in his chair to see Bakura leaning against his doorframe, he hadn’t noticed when the music had stopped.
“Yes, but she doesn’t know about you, father doesn’t even know” Ryou started to panic mentally.
“So, what does that mean? You want me gone the whole time?” Bakura asked, pretending to be hurt.
“Well…I, yes, Bakura, she’s my grandmother, my mother’s mother, she must have a good visit” Ryou explained hesitantly.
“I’d be nice…a little anyway” Bakura laughed.
“Bakura, please” Ryou’s eyes grew wide and teary.
“I’m not gonna kill her, though, that’d probably bring some nice inheritance wouldn’t it, I bet she has some fine jewels…” Bakura teased.
“If you don’t want to be inside the Ring, then stay with Malik or something, but I’d rather you not be here, I can’t risk her seeing two of me” Ryou sighed, ignoring Bakura’s tauntings.
“And what if I didn’t, just curious” Bakura walked over to Ryou, “What would you do?” Bakura walked right in front of Ryou, then squatted down and rested his elbows on Ryou’s knees, “Hmmm?”
“I’d…do nothing” Ryou sighed, fighting tears, he hated being so weak, just like Bakura said he was, “but please do this for me, Bakura, I’m begging you” Ryou pleaded.
“Oh, alright, you asked…oh, wait, begged so nicely, hahaha” Bakura stood and rustled Ryou’s hair like a dog before leaving the room.
Ryou sat and waited for Bakura to slam his door closed, then his own bedroom door across the hall. //Why does he do that to me, seems like a waist of energy, if he’s that bored, why doesn’t he just watch TV and leave me alone?// Ryou thought miserably. The white-haired boy then got himself ready for bed, wearing only dark red boxers that fell way below his bellybutton. Ryou listened as Bakura’s music still pounded throughout the house, assuming the spirit was preoccupied. He couldn’t have Bakura figure out what he did almost every night. Ryou put in some trance music and turned the volume up, waiting a moment to see if Bakura would come in and yell at him to turn it down. When no such thing happened, Ryou continued in his little ritual he started about a month ago. Ryou turned off his overhead light and switched on a black light lamp that was on his dresser, causing certain things to appear as though they were glowing. Ryou sighed, hesitating like he did every time, then pulled out a box from underneath his bed, and opening it to find his ‘peace pipe’ and a bag of pot. Ryou felt disappointed in himself every time he did this, but it helped him…sometimes, for the pain to go away. Ryou prepared the pipe and walked over to his windows, opening them; he couldn’t have Bakura smelling the stuff either. Ryou grabbed his lighter and lit the pipe, inhaling as deeply as his lungs would allow. He then blew the smoke out the window watching the gray swirls disappear. After a while of doing this, Ryou could feel the effects taking over his mind.
Ryou slowly closed his window, looking back into his room…it looked amazing. Things were glowing, and the constant beat of the music sent his head spinning. Everything looked different…more detailed, more beautiful. Ryou carefully and slowly put the pipe and what was left of the pot back in the box and laid down on his bed. Ryou looked over at the picture of his mother and his little sister, Amane. They look so happy in the picture, it kind of looked like they were moving in the picture to Ryou. Ryou picked the picture up off the night table, studying it closer. He traced his fingers across the glass. Ryou smiled at the two’s happiness in the picture. //I wonder if they’re happy now? They can’t be happy if they’re not alive// Ryou thought, anger and that pain…the pain that was suppose to go away, he felt it all coming back. //Why’d they have to die? I can’t hardly…remember them// Ryou hated himself, it was just like Bakura said, he couldn’t get over anything, everyone else told him to ‘move on’ and ‘to get over it’ ‘it was so long ago’. Ryou was weak, he hated being weak!!! It was his father’s fault they were dead, that’s why he’s never here, so he doesn’t have to look at his son’s accusing looks, even though Ryou didn’t mean to, he loved his father, but…he couldn’t quite remember what his father looked like either, he couldn’t remember anything, why not? //What’s wrong with me?// Ryou thought in hurtful anger.
“What’s wrong with me!!” Ryou shouted, throwing the picture hard on the floor, the sound of the glass breaking interrupting the music momentarily.
Ryou looked over at the edge of the bed seeing all the broken glass. It shined very beautifully. Ryou picked up one of the larger pieces and starred at it closely, occasionally moving it in the dark light to see the different reflections.
“Amazing” Ryou whispered.
Ryou sighed, he hated being this way, being so different and alone. He missed his sister, his only real friend, and his mother, she actually cared. His yami hates him for being…just being himself Ryou concluded, and Ryou hated himself because it was never good enough, not for his yami or anyone else. Bakura was always right. Ryou kind of just decided that he’d cut himself with the glass, just to see what it’d do. Ryou took the glass into his right hand and held out his left arm, gliding the glass hard across his pale skin. Ryou’s eyes widened at the dark liquid that came from his arm, it also shined in the light. Ryou made another cut and even more pretty liquid came out. It hurt a little, but it was keeping his mind off anything else.
The next moment Bakura came angrily into Ryou’s room “Ryou! What are you doing?” he demanded, his left arm hurting.
Ryou looked up, his eyes glazed over, “Bakura, look! Pretty blood, you like blood, don’t you? Come look!” Ryou showed Bakura his arm.
“You dipshit!” Bakura scowled, walking over to his hikari.
Bakura looked down at the broken picture of Ryou’s mother and sister, curious as to why Ryou would break it, he liked that picture. Bakura then looked at Ryou, then his arm.
“Ryou, what’s gotten into you?” Bakura asked not as mad.
“Hmm…nothing” Ryou smiled.
“I just don’t understand how you can be my reincarnate” Bakura mumbled, picking up the glass and throwing it away.
“I’m your curse, aren’t I? Ra likes me, he thinks I can teach you something, right? But you don’t, you think I’m worthless, don’t you? Ra must be so stupid, you’re right you know? Here, Bakura, take my blood, I want you to have it, please?” Ryou held up his bleeding arm.
Bakura clenched his teeth, he wouldn’t mind licking off Ryou’s blood under other circumstances, but he was actually a little worried about Ryou for some reason. Bakura went and got a wet towel and some bandages and took care of Ryou’s arm, Ryou silently crying the whole time.
When Bakura finished he looked up at Ryou, “Now stop crying you weak son of a bitch and go to sleep and leave me alone” Bakura growled, turning off the black light and slamming the door closed on his way out.
“Ok, Bakura, I’m out of the way” Ryou cried, “I’m out of the way” he repeated, hiding himself underneath the covers. “Only I know I’m still here…I wish I wasn’t” Ryou sighed into his pillow, his mind no longer able to stay awake.
Ryou walked quietly down the sidewalk, hands in his pockets. He had seen that morning that he had used most of his ‘stuff’ and made a quick phone call. Ryou sighed, looking up at the night sky; his grandma was coming tomorrow and he definitely needed more drugs before she arrived so he could at least pretend to be ok. Ryou stopped at a bus stop and took out a pack of cigarettes, quickly lighting one. He started this little habit before the pot just to take his mind off of things occasionally, but then when they no longer worked, he of course preceded with something stronger. Now he just smoked them to satisfy himself until he could get the other stuff. Ryou inhaled deeply, letting the hypnotic smoke leave his body slowly. The white haired teenager waited until he saw a mail truck stop in front of a pedestrian that ‘happened’ to be there as he drove by. The mail truck driver handed the pedestrian a package with a kind smile and Ryou watched as the man walked into an alley, then the truck driving off; that was his cue. Ryou finished his cigarette and walked casually across the street and into the alley, he then turned a corner and there stood three men and a woman.
“Well, here he is, right on time” the man that appeared to be the leader smiled at Ryou.
“Do you have all of it?” Ryou asked, pretending to be brave to his dealer.
“I always have what you need, Ryou, the question is, do you have all the money?” the man smiled, walking closer to Ryou, the others laughing under their breath.
Ryou unconsciously backed up into the wall, “Yeah, I have it” he nodded, pulling the cash out of his pocket.
“Good” the man snatched it from Ryou and quickly counted it. After a moment he looked up at Ryou disappointed and angry “What is this?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” Ryou asked confused and now really scared.
The man stuffed the money in his pocket and then grabbed Ryou by his shirt “I asked for 250, not 150, you’re a hundred short” he said angrily, the others around him pulling out knives, one pulling out a gun.
Ryou began to sweat rapidly, tears in his eyes, “I…I thought you said 150.…I’m sorry, I can get the rest, I promise!” Ryou squirmed in the man’s strong hold.
“Really? How do I know I can trust you, especially now…you might rat us out if I let you go now…why’d you try to cheat me, Ryou?” the man asked, pulling out his own gun.
Ryou’s eyes grew wide, “I…I wouldn’t do that, I swear! Please, I have the other hundred!!! Just let me go get it!! I’d be right back…I…I need it!!” Ryou cried, the others laughing at his fear.
“I bet you do, Ryou, but like I said, I don’t know if I can trust you” the man shrugged.
“You can trust me, I’ve never said anything before!!!” Ryou began to shake as the man pressed his gun against his temple.
/Bakura!!!/ Ryou thought helplessly.
Bakura sat up from laying on the couch.
“What is it?” Marik asked on the other end of the phone.
“Ryou just called for me, he sounded like he was in trouble” Bakura answered, waiting to see if Ryou would ask for him again or if it was just is imagination.
“Really? Why would he do that?” Marik asked chuckling.
“I’ve been known to help him before” Bakura shrugged.
/Bakura, help me!!/ Bakura heard again.
“Marik, I gotta go, he’s in trouble, talk to you later, it’s probably just some bullies he ran into, weakling” Bakura sighed, hanging up the phone.
Bakura put his shoes on and left the house, walking to where he felt his hikari could be.
“You know, Ryou, I’m tired of putting up with you’re whining and your shortage of money, this is the second time you’ve not had all of it, I’m tired of being nice to you” the man said, punching Ryou in the gut and letting him fall to the ground.
Ryou held his stomach, coughing “I’m…sorry…” he managed.
“I think I’ll just get rid of you” the man smiled.
“You don’t have to kill him, Rick” the woman said hastily, not wanting the youth to die.
“Shut up, Tasha, you and you’re stupid woman feelings” Rick growled, silencing the woman, he then looked back at Ryou, an evil grin on his face, “Hmm, that does give me an idea. We’ll see if fate wants him to live…” the man pointed his gun at Ryou’s stomach and in just a second’s time, pulled the trigger.
“AAAAAhh!!” Ryou cried, pain racing through his body, he could feel blood draining quickly out of the wound from his stomach.
“Now, if you live, you actually have a purpose, if you don’t, you’re what I think you are…worthless!!” the man laughed, signaling his group to follow him out of the alley, leaving Ryou to bleed to death.
Ryou held his stomach tightly, but felt the blood still pouring out, “Bakura…” he whimpered. “Bakura!!…” he yelled a little louder, “BAKURA!!!!!!!!!!!!” Ryou yelled at the top of his lungs, crying. Ryou felt his head become dizzy, his body going numb. “Bakura…” Ryou whispered before darkness took over.
Bakura suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach, almost causing him to fall.
“Ryou” Bakura whispered and began to run as fast as his legs could go, his hikari was in serious danger! He was so stupid to underestimate Ryou’s cry for help!
Bakura raced down the sidewalk, following Ryou’s presence as it slowly faded.
//Ryou, hold on, I’m coming!// Bakura said through the link.
/…Bakura?/ Ryou barely managed.
Bakura ran down an alley and stopped in shock as he found his aibou on the ground surrounded in drying blood.
“Ryou?” Bakura knelt down by Ryou, who lay there lifeless.
Bakura picked Ryou up in his arms, cradling the young boy. //This is all my fault// Bakura thought, a tear running down his cheek. Bakura knew Ryou was still alive, but he barely was, otherwise he wouldn’t be there either. Bakura ran with Ryou in his arms, his own body aching. He had to make it to the hospital!
“Bakura!!” a familiar voice called.
Bakura stopped and turned to see Tristan on his bike.
“What happened to Ryou?” Tristan asked.
“Take him to the hospital and hurry up!!!” Bakura shouted, securing Ryou to Tristan’s bike.
“Right” Tristan nodded, riding off as fast as his bike could go.
//How did this happen? What was Ryou doing back there in the alley?// Bakura sighed, once again running towards the hospital.
Bakura ran through the hospital double doors, people starring after him. Bakura found Tristan in a waiting room.
“Where is he?!” Bakura demanded.
“Sir, please calm down!!” a nurse walked over to Bakura.
“He’s in surgery right now, Bakura, we’ll have to wait” Tristan explained.
Bakura sighed and slumped down in a chair beside Tristan.
“May I ask who you are sir?” the nurse asked Bakura politely.
“I’m Ryou’s cousin” Bakura answered. He had to do this before when it was his fault.
“Ok, well are you Bakura’s…” the nurse began but was cut off by Bakura.
“Yes, Bakura’s father is out of town again so I will be signing the papers and take care of the insurance” Bakura sighed, standing up to follow the nurse to the desk.
She got behind the desk and handed Bakura some papers on a clipboard. Bakura began to fill them out with familiarity.
“You look almost exactly like Bakura, I just find that amazing being that you’re just his cousin” the nurse smiled.
“Yes, it’s fascinating” Bakura sighed signing the papers and handing them back to the nurse.
She looked down at Bakura’s name, “Ok, well then Mr. Ryou you can either have a seat and wait for the doctor to finish, or you can go home and have the hospital call you. I would recommend that you just go home, the doctor will be a while and after the surgery Bakura will need lots of rest, but I’m sure you’ll be able to visit him tomorrow during visiting hours, which are between noon and seven” the nurse smiled.
Bakura sighed and cursed himself mentally for not going inside the Ring when he had put Ryou on Tristan’s motorcycle, but he just didn’t think about it at the time. Ra knows where the Ring is now, knowing they probably removed it from Ryou to do the surgery. Bakura figured the nurse was right, though, as long as Ryou was unconscious he couldn’t really talk to him anyway, nor was he allowed in the room.
“Alright then, but you damn well better call me as soon as he wakes up, or I’ll personally track you down and pull each of your limbs off with my own teeth!” Bakura growled, walking out of the hospital leaving the nurse starring in horror after him.
“Hey, Bakura, want a ride back to your house?” Tristan called behind the spirit.
“No” Bakura answered simply, walking with his hands in his pockets.
“Alright” Tristan shrugged, leaving the hospital on his bike.
Bakura walked home slowly in the night, the cool breeze rustling his silver hair. //Now what? Ra, why is Ryou always getting into trouble, do I not teach him anything?// Bakura asked himself. //I’ll just have to wait until noon tomorrow…why do I feel like I’m forgetting something about noon tomorrow? Like there was something that was suppose to happen?// Bakura’s brow came together as he tried to think about was he was forgetting, then it struck him. //Ryou’s grandma!!! She’s coming here tomorrow! It was really important to Ryou that she had a good visit!! Ra, now he’s in the hospital!// Bakura sighed, what was he suppose to do? //I suppose I could…but I don’t know anything about his grandma…I could try it// Bakura shrugged //Ryou would probably appreciate it, thought he’ll miss not seeing her// Bakura sighed once again, he couldn’t believe what he was going to do, but he had to for Ryou’s sake. //And since when did I care about Ryou’s sake?// Bakura asked himself, reaching his and Ryou’s home.
Bakura took time that morning to wash and comb his hair out to make it look like Ryou’s and went into Ryou’s room to find clothes to wear. He stopped in front of the mirror //Yup, I once again look like him// he chuckled to himself, then called a taxi. Bakura made it to the airport and stood around waiting until he saw an old woman coming from the England receiving door. Bakura sighed, he didn’t know what Ryou’s grandma looked like, he was hoping she’d recognize him. A moment later a woman’s voice came over the intercom saying that the plane from England had arrived and that the passengers would be coming soon. //It’s about time, I need to get back to the hospital// Bakura growled in his mind. Soon, the doors opened and tons of people came out holding small luggage and looking exhausted and tired and greeting their loved ones with tight hugs. Bakura looked for a grandma-type old woman.
“Bakura! Is that you?!” a kind old woman came up to Bakura and put her arms gently around his neck.
“Grandma!” Bakura exclaimed more surprised than happy, putting his arms lightly around the woman after a moment.
“I almost passed by you until I seen your hair, then I knew it had to be you, only people in our family have white hair at such a young age!” the woman laughed.
“Yeah, say grandma, you must be tired, let’s get you home” Bakura gave the woman one of Ryou’s smiles, taking her luggage.
“How kind of you dear, you know, you didn’t have to take off school just to come get me, I know your address, I would have made it to the house” the old woman smiled.
//Damn it, I forgot about school!// Bakura cursed mentally “Oh, I wanted to surprise you, it’s no big deal, we can miss a few days of school occasionally” Bakura slapped himself mentally.
“Of course…so, how is school dear?” grandma asked as Bakura waved down a taxi.
“Oh…uh, it’s great! I’m passing all my classes!” Bakura just kept smiling and nodding at the woman.
“That’s wonderful, I bet you miss your father, though?” she asked, getting inside the car, followed by Bakura.
“Oh, that’s ok, I know he’s busy, I’m fine, I have my friends” Bakura smiled, then told the driver where to go.
“Do you still like my special ginger snaps?” the woman asked.
“Most definitely, I was hoping you’d make some while you stayed” Bakura said excitedly, smirking to himself //oh, I am good// he thought.
“I’ll make some as soon as we get home” the woman smiled.
“No need to do that, you just got here, I’m sure you’ll want to rest, I’ll make dinner tonight even” Bakura gave an innocent smile //Wait a minute, I can’t cook! Aaagg, Ryou can, but I can’t!// Bakura panicked mentally.
“How delightful, what will you make?” the woman asked.
“What would you like?” Bakura asked //Please say hot dogs, please say hot dogs// he thought.
“Why don’t you make my favorite, do you know how?” the kind woman looked at her ‘grandson’.
“Umm…it’s been a while” Bakura decided that would be the best answer.
“Well, surely you remember how to make grilled cheese?” the woman chuckled.
“Oh, sure” Bakura nodded with a giggle //Oh Ra, how am I going to last a week?//.
The two made it home, Bakura quickly putting the woman’s things in the guest room and walked into the kitchen to check if there were any phone messages. Bakura pressed the ‘Play’ button.
“You have one new message” the machine said in monotone.
“Hello, this is Dr. Lester, I’m calling about Bakura Ryou, I have some blood tests back and need to speak to a parent or guardian immediately” came the message, “please come as soon as possible, thank you”.
//Oh, great, now what?// Bakura sighed and was about to run out the door when Grandma came out of her guest room.
“Bakura, where are you going?” she asked kindly.
“Oh, uuuhhh…I’m just going to meet some friends real quick, it won’t take long” Bakura smiled and left before the nagging woman could ask another question.
Bakura ran down the sidewalk towards the hospital //Ra! I can’t stand that woman, always asking questions! I’d hate to know what Ryou’s mother was like!// the thought miserably. After a while Bakura made it to the hospital and walked up to the nurses’ desk.
“I’m here to see Ry…Bakura Ryou” he said impatiently.
“And who are you ?” the nurse asked kindly.
“I’m his cousin…oh, and Dr. Lester wanted to speak to me?” Bakura asked.
“Are you his guardian as well?” the nurse asked.
“While his father is away I am responsible, yes” Bakura nodded.
“Ok, well, Dr. Lester will be with you in a moment, I’ll tell him you’re with Bakura, you can just go into his room, it’s on the second floor, number 213” the young woman smiled.
“Thanks” Bakura nodded and ran to an elevator and then to Ryou’s room.
Bakura found Ryou in a bed next to the window, various tubes and such hooked up to him and a heart monitor beeping in a steady rhythm. Bakura sat at Ryou’s side and took his hand in his.
“Hey there, aibou” Bakura whispered.
Ryou opened his eyes slowly and smiled the best he could “Hi yami” he said barely above a whisper.
“How do you feel?” Bakura asked.
“I’m ok” Ryou squeezed Bakura’s hand.
“So you’re not dieing on me?” Bakura joked.
“No” Ryou sighed.
“Your grandma is here, she doesn’t know you’re in the hospital, she thinks I’m you” Bakura explained.
“Thank you, I don’t want her to see me like this, she needs a good visit with no worries, I do wish I could have seen her, though” Ryou lowered his eyes.
“Well, maybe they’ll let you out before she leaves and you can be you for real and I’ll go to Malik’s or something” Bakura said positively.
“Probably not” Ryou shook his head.
“Why not?” Bakura asked.
Before Ryou could answer Dr. Lester walked into the room.
“Yami Ryou?” Dr. Lester asked Bakura.
Bakura stood, “That’d be me” he nodded, not shaking the doctor’s outstretched hand.
“Yes, well…interesting name by the way” the doctor chuckled kindly.
“So’s Lester” Bakura snapped.
“Hm, well, could I talk to for a moment please?” the doctor asked.
“Sure” Bakura shrugged, following the doctor to the other side of the room, telling Ryou he’d be right back through their link.
“How is he?” Bakura asked the doctor.
“We were able to remove the bullet and sew the wound and it should heal properly, though there will be a scar of course. He lost a considerable amount of blood but he should be just fine. However, we found through some blood tests that Bakura has been using pot and smoking cigarettes, of which he is under age to buy, and of course the drugs are illegal” Dr. Lester explained sadly yet seriously.
“What? You mean he’s a pot head? He wouldn’t do that, there must be a mistake, Ryou wouldn’t do that, he’s not that stupid” Bakura shook his head, his fists clenching tightly.
“There’s not mistake, Mr. Ryou, truthfully, your house should be searched and Bakura should be arrested and put into rehab. We’re unsure as to how long he’s been using the drug, but it appears it’s been at least a month” the doctor finished.
“A month? I would have known” Bakura looked at the man as if he was lying.
“Bakura needs help, Mr. Ryou, and as soon as he’s well, he’ll most likely be put on probation and forced to go to rehab, it’ll be for the best” the doctor put a hand on Bakura’s shoulder.
Bakura shook the man’s hand away, glaring at him “Why can’t he just come home after he’s well? He’ll be fine, I’ll watch him, he won’t like all that shit, he’ll just get depressed” Bakura could see he was losing the argument.
“Apparently that didn’t work, he seems already depressed, I’m sorry, but this is how it works, he can still live at home, but he will be watched my local authority, not just you” the doctor said sternly.
Bakura didn’t know what else to say, he just wanted his hikari back, “Whatever” Bakura growled, then walked back into the room by Ryou’s side. The doctor just shook his head at the youth and walked down the hall to his next patient.
“Ryou, the doctor says you’ve been using drugs, is this true?” Bakura asked Ryou, hope in his eyes.
Ryou felt tears come to his eyes, and disappointment come to his yams “Yes” Ryou nodded slowly, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Bakura, I know I’m weak, I didn’t mean to, honest! I just…I’m sorry, you must hate me now! I wish I were stronger for you!” Ryou began to sob.
“No Ryou, its ok” Bakura stood and embraced Ryou in his arms, rocking his hikari slowly.
“No it’s not! I’m weak, worthless piece of shit, you said it yourself once!” Ryou cried.
“I…I didn’t mean it, Ryou, I was…just…I shouldn’t have said that, I was trying to make you stronger, but you are strong Ryou, Ra, you survived a bullet to the gut! Please stop crying!” Bakura pleaded, noticing that the heart monitor was going faster and they were going to kick him out if Ryou didn’t calm down.
Ryou held on to Bakura tightly, crying into his shoulder “Bakura, get me out of here, I don’t want to be here anymore” Ryou said more calmly.
Bakura released Ryou enough to look down into his face, “Ryou , I don’t think I can do that, if I could I would, but they want you to stay here” Bakura said apologetically.
“Please, Bakura?” Ryou looked up at Bakura with pleading eyes.
“What’s going on in here?” a nurse came rushing into the room, seeing Ryou with a tear-stained face.
“He wants to leave” Bakura explained sternly.
“He has to be released by the doctor, I’m sorry, now I’m going to have to ask you to leave” the nurse crossed her arms.
“No! Bakura! Don’t leave!” Ryou held onto Bakura’s arm.
“He needs to be at home” Bakura fought back.
“What he wants is to go home so he can find some drugs to take, he’s going through withdraw, sir, he’ll do anything to get more” the nurse explained.
Bakura looked down at his hikari, “Aibou, is this true?”
“No! I…I want to go home, just let me go back?” Ryou begged.
Bakura could see the want in Ryou’s eyes and knew that the nurse was telling the truth.
“Ryou, I can’t, you’ll have to stay here, I need to get back to Grandma” Bakura said monotone, and left Ryou screaming after him.
Bakura walked home, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for leaving Ryou, he wanted to help, but in the back of his mind he couldn’t shake the thought he might have been part of the problem.
Meanwhile, Ryou’s grandma looked around the house thinking it could use some cleaning. //And Bakura’s only one teenage boy, I’d hate to see what this place would look like if there were more// she chuckled to herself, finding the vacuum cleaner in an upstairs closet. She started at the end of the hallway in Ryou’s father’s room, which was mostly just dusty, then the bathroom in the hallway, then she came across two doors. She opened the one on her left, gasping as she took in what she saw.
There were clothes all over the floor, most with blood stains. The black iron bed wasn’t made and on the polls that made the headboard were handcuffs, with dried blood on them. There was a desk with a black phone, a computer, and a huge stereo with parental advisory rock music scattered all about the stereo and desk. The white walls were covered in blood smears and the room smelled like dried blood and sweat. And from the light fixture hung a noose, the windows painted black. And on one of the walls there was a poster of a naked woman on a stone slab, a knife between her oversized breasts, gothic words reading ‘The Lord giveth life…but I take it away’. Grandma’s eyes grew wide at what she saw, her old heart speeding up in panic. //Oh God! This is Satan’s room!!!// She backed out of the room, closing the door quickly.
“That couldn’t have been Bakura’s room…not little Bakura” she assured herself. //But then whose was it?// She thought in wonder.
Grandma then went into the room on her right, sighing in relief at the appearance that it was normal. The walls were an off-white with a few posters of Duel Monsters on the walls…but then there were two black light posters, one with mushrooms on it with smiley faces, and the other with a huge marijuana leaf on it. On the desk was a green phone, a computer, and a slightly smaller stereo from the other room, with a whole bunch of trance and mellow rock (A/N: what I mean is not hard rock, but depressing-like rock like Creed or Staind, which is different from Godsmack and Misfits and stuff, I just know the ‘proper’ names, ok? Work w/ me here) The wooden slay bed was made perfectly and the floor was spotless. Over on a book shelf were books on demonic, occult, and magic Duel Monster cards, and some books on the real occult. //This can’t be Bakura’s room either, this person is obviously on drugs and working with Satan// Grandma thought, shivers going down her spine. But there was only one other room, and that was the guest room, so one of these room had to be Bakura’s. Grandma sighed and vacuumed the room, and proceeded to the rest of the house.
Bakura came through the front door and seen Grandma vacuuming the living room. He sighed and put on an innocent smile.
“You shouldn’t be cleaning on your vacation, grandma, I’ll do that later!” Bakura said in Ryou’s voice the best he could, smiling at the old woman.
“its fine, I needed something to do” the woman shrugged, trying to give her obviously troubled grandson a smile.
“Hm, well, if you insist” Bakura shrugged “I’ll go make that dinner, I bet you’re starving, I am” Bakura went into the kitchen.
“Let’s see…grilled cheese, Ryou made that once…what was it again?” Bakura thought to himself out loud. He thought about using the link, but Ryou would not be in the mood to tell him out to cook right now.
Bakura found the recipe books and tried to find ‘grilled cheese’. //Oh, here it is!// Bakura finally found it and began to read:
‘Take two pieces of bread and spread butter over one side of both pieces.
Put one buttered side in the pan and put some cheese on the bread. After this,
Put the other piece of bread over the cheese, butter side up. Brown both sides.’
Bakura looked up from the book //I can do that// he shrugged, putting the book away. Bakura found two pieces of bread, then opened the fridge.
“Let’s see, butter..butter…” he said, looking for the butter.
Bakura found the butter and grabbed the pocket knife out of his…pocket, and took a big scoop of butter and slapped it on one of the pieces of bread, then did the same to the other. He then found a huge pan and put it on the stove, turning the burner all the way to the highest setting, the gas stove providing high flames around the pan.
“Awesome” Bakura said with a nod.
Bakura then put the one of the pieces of bread on the pan, butter side up, slapped on some cheese from a can, then put the other piece of bread on, butter side down.
“That wasn’t hard at all” Bakura smiled to himself.
Grandma came into the kitchen “How’s it going, Bakura?” she asked, her voice giving away that something was wrong.
“Fine” Bakura shrugged.
The next moment the sandwich went up in flames, the fire alarm sounding.
“SHIT!!” Bakura yelled angrily, filling a glass full of water from the sink and splashing the pan.
“Use the fire extinguisher!” Grandma cried.
“It’s out” Bakura shrugged, turning off the stove.
The two looked into the pan, a burnt glob of cheese and black crust was swimming around in steaming water.
“Bakura, I know there’s something wrong, why don’t you tell me?” Grandma asked, looking at her grandson.
“Just because I can’t cook?” Bakura exclaimed, “Geez, and I thought I was harsh.”
“You use to cook fine meals all the time, you mother would write and tell me about how you would do such a good job as such a young age and that you made entire meals just wonderfully” Grandma frowned.
//Damn it, that’s right, Ryou can cook, Ra, I’m so screwing this up!// Bakura mentally kicked himself repeatedly in the ass.
“Oh, I…uh, I just haven’t felt myself these past few days, I’ll be ok” Bakura smiled, putting nervous hand behind his hand the way Ryou would.
“Which one of those rooms is yours?” Grandma asked finally.
“Whoa, that’s personal” Bakura backed up.
“Bakura, what has gotten into you? Are you on drugs?” Grandma asked getting angry.
“No” Bakura answered quickly, crossing his arms like a child, this woman asked too many damn questions.
“I’m sorry, Bakura, it’s just that I’m concerned for your well-being, I know things have been rough, I just want to help. Are you sure you’re ok?” Grandma put a hand on Bakura’s shoulder.
Bakura raised an eyebrow, but quickly put it back down and gave her a Ryou’s smile, “Oh, thanks grandma, but really, I’m fine…really, I’ll see you in the morning” Bakura reluctantly leaned over and kissed the woman on the cheek, then ran upstairs to his room, walking back out a moment later and going inside Ryou’s room, collapsing on the bed.
“This is bull shit” he growled to himself.
The next day Bakura called the school and told them of Ryou’s situation, he wasn’t about to try and go to school for Ryou. But because of Grandma, he had to go somewhere because she thought he was going to school. So, Bakura and Marik went to visit Ryou, who didn’t say much and just kept starring out the window, but when they left he suddenly wrapped himself around Bakura and begged to leave. Bakura almost sent everyone in the hospital to the Shadow Realm as they drug Ryou away from him. He and Marik spent the rest of the time together at Marik’s.
As Bakura walked home he noticed there were a few police cars in front of the house. Bakura walked in and the police people were talking to his grandma upstairs, they must have only just arrived.
“Grandma, what’s going on?” Bakura asked nervously, thinking she saw the blood in his room and told the police that he murdered somebody…it was mostly his and Marik’s.
“We’re here to find the drugs Bakura Ryou may have used, we have a warrant” one of the police answered.
“I asked them what they were talking about” Grandma said to Bakura confused.
“Which room is his?” the policeman asked.
“This one” Bakura said quickly, opening the door to Ryou’s room.
“Who are you son?” the policeman asked.
“He’s Bakura, my grandson” Grandma answered.
“Go ahead and search the room” the policeman ordered his colleagues, then looked back and Grandma, “Ma’am, that’s impossible, Bakura Ryou is in the hospital” he informed.
“No, this is my grandson” Grandma said more forcibly.
“We found it, there isn’t very much” one of the other policeman said from underneath Ryou’s bed.
“Ok, good work” the man nodded, then looked at Bakura, “You do look like him, are you his cousin that signed the papers at the hospital?” he asked.
Bakura panicked the first time since he dueled Marik and lost, “Um…yeah, I am” Bakura nodded.
“Do you live on this premises?” the man asked.
“Yeah” Bakura said slowly.
“We should check his room as well, which room is it son?” the man asked.
“Behind you” Bakura answered, wanting to send them all to the Shadow Realm.
“This isn’t Bakura’s cousin! This is Bakura!” Grandma said, still confused.
Bakura turned to Grandma, “No, I’m his cousin, Ry…Bakura is in the hospital and he didn’t want you to know so he told me to play him so you’d have a good visit” Bakura explained.
“Why haven’t I known about you?” Grandma asked.
“Oh…I’m…see, Bakura’s father has a brother and I’m his kid, it was really odd that we turned out looking the same, but apparently it’s possible” Bakura explained quickly.
“Hm, well, I never did know his side of the family very well” Grandma shrugged.
//Thank Ra// Bakura sighed.
“Sir! This room looks like it belongs to Satan! There’s blood everywhere and in one of the dresser drawers there’s a whole bunch of chains, a leather whip with spikes on the end, and lots of daggers!!!” one of the policeman reported from Bakura’s room.
“Any drugs?” the man asked.
“No sir” the other man replied.
“Son, you over 18?” the man asked Bakura.
“Yes” Bakura rolled his eyes, //Well over 18, try oh…about 5,000 years!!!// Bakura thought angrily.
“You’re a sick man…may I see some ID?” the policeman asked curiously.
“ID?” Bakura panicked, he knew he didn’t have any.
“Yes, you do have some, don’t you?” the man asked.
“I…um…a few days ago I lost my wallet…at a friend’s house, we haven’t found it yet, but that’s where my ID is” Bakura assured.
“Come down to the station with us and we’ll check your files and such” the man said, taking Bakura’s arm.
//Why can’t I send them to the Shadow Realm again?// Bakura asked himself and he was put into one of the police cars.
Bakura sighed behind the bars of the jail. He sat on the small cot-like bed with his head buried in his hands.
“Well, well, well…I bet this seems familiar, tomb robber” Bakura heard a familiar voice.
Bakura looked up, “Marik!” Bakura ran to the other yami and they kissed between the bars. “And I never got caught, so no, this isn’t familiar, I was the best, remember?” Bakura smiled.
“Your world is nice” Marik smirked at Bakura’s glare, “I’m kidding. So, I here you don’t have any identity?” Marik asked.
“Yeah” Bakura sighed.
“You will in a few minutes” Marik lowered his voice, “I talked Seto into ‘fixing’ your problem. It’s just going to take him a few to hack into some necessary systems so you can exist. He’s even going to create an ID card for you and a birth certificate” Marik explained.
Bakura reached through the bars and ran his hand along Marik’s soft cheek, “You did this for me?” Bakura asked.
Marik smirked, “You can repay me when you get out” he winked.
“Come here” Bakura pulled Marik into another kiss.
“Ahem” a police woman cleared her throat behind the two.
“Yes?” Marik asked, turning around.
“Seems a friend of yours found your wallet and your ID card. And because it was from another country, which would also explain why you weren’t in the regular files, our apologies, you can go home now” she sighed, opening the cell door.
“Thanks” Bakura said sarcastically.
“No problem” the woman smiled.
“We need to get home” Bakura said, putting his hand in one of Marik’s back pockets, Marik doing the same to Bakura.
“All the cute ones are gay” the police woman sighed as she watched the two walk out of the station.
Bakura and Marik walked into Ryou’s home, Bakura finding a note on the coffee table.
‘Dear Yami,
Thank you for trying to give me a nice visit, but I would have preferred to have known the truth. I’ve decided to spend this night in a hotel room, and I’ll be leaving in the morning after I visit Bakura in the hospital. One more thing, dear, I think you could use a psychiatrist, or a priest, either one would probably do. See you next time I visit! Love you dear!
Love Grandma.’
(A/N: Ok, I didn’t mention this before, my bad, Seto made Bakura’s name Yami Bakura Ryou for his full name)
“The bitch left, that’s good, that means we can have as much fun as we want” Bakura said, crumbling up the note and tossing it behind him.
“I still think its funny your legal name is Yami, it’s the same as Yami’s” Marik laughed.
“Yeah, don’t remind me” Bakura sighed.
“Come on! I don’t want to wait anymore!” Marik said, grabbing Bakura’s arm and dragging him up the stairs and into Bakura’s room, Bakura quickly turned on some music really loud and looked over at Marik.
“Sex to Marilyn Manson…I like it” Marik smirked.
“I know” Bakura said in a husky tone.
The two began kissing each other passionately, quickly stripping each other before even getting to the bed. Bakura pushed Marik onto the bed, then quickly jumped on top of him.
“It’s not going to be that easy!” Marik laughed.
The two began wrestling furiously, biting and scratching, fighting for dominance. Fresh blood smearing onto the walls as they shoved each other up against them, somewhere along the fight they each found a knife and the cutting began.
“You my recall, but I won last time and I’ll win again!” Marik growled.
“I let you win, this time’s mine!” Bakura growled back.
Bakura was able to slash Marik’s chest, causing the other yami to hiss in pain, giving Bakura enough time to pin him down on the bed, holding Marik’s wrists above his head. Marik grunted in his last effort to keep Bakura from winning, but he had lost a lot of blood. Bakura grunted as he finally clasped the handcuffs around Marik’s wrists.
“Ha!” Bakura laughed in victory, “I’ll be the seme tonight, Uke” he smirked.
Marik pulled at the handcuffs a bit, “Fine” he breathed, giving up.
Bakura smiled, leaning down and licking the blood off of Marik.
“Ra, you taste so good” Bakura whispered hungrily.
Bakura went up to kiss Marik’s mouth, letting Marik get a taste of his own blood. Bakura moved down to his neck, biting hard, causing Marik to whimper, and licking off the fresh blood. Bakura then moved down to Marik’s nipples, enjoying Marik’s groans for him to move faster. Bakura started to move himself up and down slowly, creating friction between him and Marik.
“Damn it!” Marik squirmed, tugging on the handcuffs.
“What’s the matter?” Bakura teased, moving down and barely touching his tongue to tip of Marik’s cock.
“Just fuck me already!” Marik demanded, bucking at Bakura’s mouth, Bakura pulling his head back just in time to miss Marik.
“Don’t make me get the whip out” Bakura warned.
“Please do” Marik licked his lips.
“Hmph, you want me to fuck you? Then I will” Bakura smirked evilly, quickly lubricating himself and entering Marik without preparation, causing the other yami to yell in pain. Bakura looked at Marik, only centimeters from his face, “How’s that?” he asked, breathing heavily.
“I love it” Marik said through clenched teeth, but still managed to smirk at his lover.
“Good” Bakura smiled, kissing him aggressively as he began to thrust slightly in and out of Marik.
Meanwhile, a taxi pulled up to Ryou’s home, Grandma stepping out of the car. She could hear the loud music coming from the house from the sidewalk.
“I’ll be right back” she said kindly to the driver.
“I wait ten minute” the Spanish driver said tiredly.
Grandma went inside the house, grabbing a small bag she had left in her room. She then walked up the stairs, deciding she should tell ‘Yami’ to turn his music down because the neighbors probably didn’t appreciate the racket.
“Yami?” she called through the door.
Through the music she heard loud moaning and thought he might be hurt. She opened the door quickly to find a boy handcuffed to the headboard, blood coming from his wrists because he kept pulling on them. He was moaning as ‘Yami’ lay between his legs that were wrapped around his waist and he was…having sex with this boy!!
Marik opened his eyes and seen the intruder, “Hey! Can’t you see we’re trying to fuck?!” he shouted over the music.
Bakura looked over his shoulder at the woman //Ra damn it!// he cursed in his mind.
“Oh dear Lord!” Grandma cried, quickly closing the door.
“I thought she left?” Marik asked.
“I dunno, maybe she forgot something, I don’t care…now, where were we?” Bakura smiled, continuing to thrust into Marik while pumping Marik’s cock in time with his thrusts.
Grandma slowly walked to the stairs, clutching her heart, her breathing becoming increasingly difficult. She heard the two boys scream each other’s name in climax, just as she felt herself fall down the stairs.
Bakura collapsed onto Marik’s chest, both panting.
“Kura?” Marik breathed.
Bakura calmed his breathing and reached up, freeing Marik’s wrists from the handcuffs. Marik put his arms around Bakura tightly, kissing his head. Bakura put his arms tightly around Marik, trying to nuzzle deeper into Marik’s chest. Marik ran a hand lazily hand through Bakura’s tangly hair, getting the blood from his wrists in the white locks.
“Mmmmm” Bakura smiled slightly.
“What?” Marik asked, almost asleep.
“I’m comfortable” Bakura whispered, sleep taking over him.
“Me too” Marik agreed, also falling asleep, but a bit disappointed.
That morning, a taxi came by the Ryou’s home, a tall man with white hair eagerly getting out of the yellow car and grabbing his few bags from the trunk. He came in through an unlocked door.
“Bakura! I’m home!” Ryou’s father called, a second later his bags fall to the floor as he gasped.
He looked at the bottom of the stairs to find his mother-in-law sprawled out at the foot of the stairs, loud rock music playing from upstairs. He ran over to the old woman.
“Lunette! Dear God, are you alright?” he asked the lifeless woman “Lunette?” he asked again, checking her neck for a heartbeat. “Good Lord, she’s dead!” he exclaimed to himself, running upstairs to the source of the music.
The man came to Ryou’s room, but his music was coming from the opposite one. Shrugging, he opened the door, gasping at what he saw. The room was straight from Satan, and his son was lying in the bed naked with another boy and they weren’t even covered up!!!!
“BAKURA! WHAT THE DEVIL IS GOING ON?????!!!!!!” the man exclaimed in horror.
“Ra, we’re trying to sleep, man” Marik grumbled, pulling Bakura closer to him.
Bakura immediately knew who it was //oh shit, shit shit SHIT, Ryou’s gonna kill me!// Bakura mentally killed himself as he sat up and pretending to be Ryou the best he could he gave an uneasy smile, “Oh, hello father.”
“Bakura, you grandmother is dead down stairs and you’re up here with another boy! Get dressed and get downstairs, both of you now!” Ryou’s father slammed the door shut.
“What’s his problem?” Marik asked sarcastically.
“Damn it, how come every 17 minutes of my life sucks” Bakura growled, getting out of the bed.
“It takes longer than 17 minutes for us to have sex” Marik said, pretending to be hurt.
“You know what I mean” Bakura snapped, not amused.
“Yeah” Marik sighed, getting out of the bed and putting his clothes on.
Bakura and Marik waited downstairs as Ryou’s father called the hospital and after a while an ambulance came and took the woman away. Mr. Ryou watched the ambulance drive away, then closed the door, looking at the two teenage boys, who were sitting close to each other on the couch, each with an arm around the other’s waist, and Marik running a hand up Bakura’s thigh underneath the boxers and Bakura had a hand up his shirt, the two nibbling at each other’s neck.
“You, leave” Mr. Ryou said sternly to Marik.
Marik looked over at the man, “You’re not my dad” Marik narrowed his eyes.
“This is my house and that’s my son, you’ll leave or I’ll call the police” Mr. Ryou crossed his arms.
Both Marik and Bakura stood, kissing each other passionately, “I’ll talk to you later, Kura” Marik purred, then walked towards the door and looked at Mr. Ryou, “and it’s a good thing you’re not, cause then you’d be dead” he winked, then left the house.
Mr. Ryou waited for Marik to be down the side walk before he turned to look as his ‘son’. Bakura just stood there with his arms crossed, glaring at the man, forgetting that he needed to be more like Ryou. Mr. Ryou walked over to Bakura. Bakura’s body tensed and got ready to dodge a blow. But instead, Mr. Ryou put an arm around Bakura, looking a bit hurt when Bakura acted startled at the touch.
“Sit down Bakura” Mr. Ryou said, sitting down on the couch and letting Bakura set next to him, then he put his arm back around Bakura. “Bakura, what’s gotten into you? You seemed fine when I left three weeks ago, talk to me” Mr. Ryou said calmly.
“What are you doing back? I thought you were going to be gone for a month” Bakura asked.
“It was a surprise, more for me than you I think” Mr. Ryou gave a weak smile. “Bakura, tell me what’s wrong…how long have you been with that boy? Why are you with a boy? Is it because I haven’t been here for you? Please tell me” Mr. Ryou pleaded with is ‘son’.
“I’m GAY, ever think of that? I’ve been with him long enough” Bakura snapped., crossing his arms.
“Are you sure? It’s just that…it’s wrong, Bakura…” Mr. Ryou began.
“Oh shut the fuck up! It’s not wrong, it’s the way I am!” Bakura shouted, standing up, it wasn’t wrong!
“Bakura, calm down, okay? Please? I just want to talk with you” Mr. Ryou sighed, “Please sit back down?” he asked in concern.
Bakura cautiously sat back down, moving away when Mr. Ryou wanted to put his arm back around him.
“Bakura?” Mr. Ryou asked, not knowing what to do next.
Bakura didn’t know what to do, the guy was really making him mad, but he wasn’t acting like Ryou at all //What would Ryou do?// Bakura thought //I know!//. Bakura tried to work up some tears, managing to get a few to show.
“Bakura, what is it?” Mr. Ryou wanted to comfort his ‘son’ , but apparently he didn’t want to be touched.
“It’s just that…” Bakura sniffled loudly, “I…I’m so confused! I’m always so alone! And then I found myself having a crush on this guy! And….and then…and things are always…and I miss mother! And I miss Amane! And now Grandma’s dead and it’s all my fault!!!” Bakura cried loudly.
“I’m so sorry” Ryou’s father couldn’t help himself and went and hugged Bakura tightly.
Bakura awkwardly put his arms around the man //Ra, I can’t do this much longer!!!// he complained in his mind. Mr. Ryou pulled away, holding back tears so he could be strong for his ‘son’.
“What can I do to make things better? Do you want me to stay home? I know I can’t make up for all the time I’ve lost, but I can be here if you really want, I’ll get another job and be home everyday, just tell me, what would make things better for you?” he asked sincerely.
“Well, I…” Bakura trailed off.
//What now? I don’t want him around!!! But I don’t know what Ryou wants, I’m going to have to talk to him// Bakura decided, opening their link.
//Ryou?// Bakura asked.
/Bakura?/ Ryou asked barely above a whisper.
//Yeah, it’s me…listen, your father’s here and he asked me if you wanted him to be here for you all the time, like changing jobs and stuff…I don’t know what to do// Bakura admitted.
/I…what about you?/ Ryou asked.
//Don’t worry about it, just help me out// Bakura pleaded as Ryou’s father waited for a reply.
/Just…tell him you’ll be ok, whatever it is you did/ Ryou sighed heavily.
//Gee, thanks// Bakura hissed.
Bakura looked at Mr. Ryou, “You don’t need to change jobs, you like what you’re doing, it’s just, you could at least write. I’ll be ok, father, really, I shouldn’t let things get to me” Bakura smiled to himself, //I’m good// he thought slyly.
“Are you sure?” Mr. Ryou asked.
“Yeah, everything will be fine, school’s almost out, I’m just stressed” Bakura gave a small smile.
“Ok, it you say so, I do care, Bakura, I love you, you know?” Mr. Ryou asked.
Bakura found himself off guard, no one had ever said that to him before, “Uuhh…yeah, yeah I know, me too” he said quickly.
“About that boy…is it just him, or is it any guy?” Mr. Ryou asked timidly.
Bakura thought a moment, smiling mentally at the thought of Marik, “Honestly, I could go out with a girl, but it happened to be another man that I found” Bakura shrugged.
“I see” Mr. Ryou sighed, “As long as you’re happy” he smiled.
“How long are you home?” Bakura asked.
“A few days, then I have to go to the main lab” Mr. Ryou said.
“Ok” Bakura was confused, //the lab must be in another city or something if he’ll be gone// he reasoned.
Bakura walked back upstairs as his ‘father’ got something to eat. He went into the bathroom for a much needed shower, but he couldn’t help but thing of his light. He played a confused teenager thinking that’s what Ryou would do, but what if that’s what Ryou really is? And he didn’t sound any better being in that hospital, he probably wanted to see his father. Bakura hurried with his shower and got dressed quickly, then ran downstairs to the font door.
“Whoa, where are you going?” Mr. Ryou asked, eating a sandwich.
“I’m just going to see a friend” Bakura smiled.
“Boyfriend?” Mr. Ryou asked.
“No, a very close friend” Bakura said seriously, running out the door.
Bakura ran down the street as fast as he could, he had to get Ryou out of the hospital. This wasn’t his father he was dealing with, it was Ryou’s, and his father was probably half of Ryou’s problems, if anyone got in his way, he’s going to send them to the Shadow Realm! Bakura reached the hospital and ran straight to Ryou’s room, but the other boy was no where to be found. A nurse came into the room.
“Can I help you?” she asked Bakura politely.
“Where’s Bakura Ryou?” Bakura asked.
“He’s on the third floor talking to the psychologist” she replied with a kind smile.
“I must speak with him, it concerns his family” Bakura said, running out the door.
“You can’t see him now!” the nurse cried, running after Bakura just in time to see him get into an elevator.
“Damn it, there goes my job” the nurse sighed, “I could have at least been with the guy alone in the elevator, he was so cute” she smiled to herself.
Bakura rushed out of the elevator //Damn it, what room?// Bakura cursed to himself. He walked around until he saw a sign above him that read ‘Psychology’, then looked down on the door that read, ‘Dr. Pitzer’. Bakura opened the door and found the doctor behind her desk and Ryou sitting in the chair opposite her, looking down at the floor.
“May I help you, sir?” Dr. Pitzer asked calmly.
“Yeah, Ryou’s leaving” Bakura said, walking over to a surprised Ryou and picking him up violently by the arm.
Dr. Pitzer stood, “Excuse me, he is my patient, I say when he is able to go home.”
The doctor winced as Bakura tightened his grip on Ryou’s arm, Ryou whimpering in pain, “No, lady, he’s leaving now” then Bakura left, dragging Ryou with him.
Bakura walked through the halls, using the power of the ring to blast people out of his way. Once outside, Ryou twisted out of Bakura’s grip and took off running.
“Damn him!” Bakura growled, running after Ryou.
The darkened sky cracked with thunder and it began to rain without mercy. Bakura kept running, gaining onto Ryou. A moment later Bakura caught Ryou tackling him to the ground, the rough sidewalk cutting into both of their skins.
“Let me go!” Ryou cried.
“No, Ryou, I just needed to speak with you!” Bakura shouted.
Ryou stopped struggling and waited for Bakura to release him, then both stood.
“What?” Ryou asked, glaring at his yami, both drenched by the rain.
“I don’t know what happened to you and I don’t know what to do about it, but you need to go home and see your father. He loves you Ryou, if anyone can help you it’s him, he needs you and you need him” Bakura explained.
Ryou clenched his fists, “What the fuck do you know about needing somebody? Love isn’t even in your vocabulary, nor is it in your heart! You don’t love me, and you don’t even love Marik! You use him for your sickening lust, you don’t even notice the hurt in his eyes, do you?! He loves you, though, but you didn’t notice that either, did you?! All you care about is yourself, and you don’t even care about that very much, as much as you hurt yourself. Just get away from me” Ryou began to walk away, Bakura shocked.
“How do you know all this?” Bakura asked.
“It’s obvious, you just don’t care” Ryou said as he kept walking.
Bakura’s eye twitched in anger and he ran up to Ryou, spinning him around violently and shaking him, “I don’t care?! If I didn’t care I wouldn’t have taken you to t he hospital, I would have left you to die in the alley; I wouldn’t have tried to make your grandma have a nice stay, I wouldn’t have tried to make your father understand that he needs to be here for you more, I wouldn’t have gotten you out of the hospital so you could see your father before he leaves again. I care, fucking god damn it! What the fuck more do you want?! You want me to love Marik?! I do, ok?” Bakura yelled.
“You killed my grandma” Ryou said.
“It was an accident” Bakura shrugged. “Ryou, promise me you’ll go home and talk to your father and get better, please? You’re not worthless, I don’t know what I’d do without you, you’re the other part of me” Bakura hugged Ryou close to him.
Ryou couldn’t hold back his tears and put his arms around Bakura tightly, “I promise, Bakura, if you promise me something” Ryou looked up at Bakura.
“What?” Bakura asked.
“Promise me you’ll tell Marik that you love him, he needs to hear it, and also, promise me that…that the abuse will stop” Ryou looked down to the ground, thinking he just made Bakura angry.
“I promise” Bakura sighed, he’d do anything for Ryou and he knew it.
“Thank you, yami” Ryou gave a small smile.
“Go home, I’ll be there…whenever” Bakura let go of Ryou and took off towards Marik’s home.
Ryou watched his yami leave, then began to walk home in the rain.
Ryou walked into his house, his father coming downstairs.
“Ryou, you’re soaked” Mr. Ryou said in concern, grabbing a hand towel from the kitchen.
“I’ll be ok” Ryou smiled.
“Here, dry off” Mr. Ryou handed the towel to Ryou.
“I missed you dad” Ryou said as he held the towel, not bothering to dry off.
Mr. Ryou looked at his son a moment, noticing the dark circles under his eyes and the tears about to fall and his skin much paler than usual. He didn’t look this way when he left.
“Bakura, are you ok?” Mr. Ryou asked.
Ryou just looked down at the floor, then the phone rang.
Mr. Ryou sighed and went to pick the phone up, “Hello?”
“Is this…who is this?” a woman said on the other line.
“Mr. Ryou, who is this?” Mr. Ryou raised an eyebrow.
“This is Dr. Pitzer. You are Bakura Ryou’s father, correct?” the doctor asked.
“Yes, ma’am” Mr. Ryou nodded.
“Ok, good. I need you to bring Bakura back to the hospital please. His cousin took him out of the hospital and he needs to return immediately, I have not determined him to be fully recovered from his addiction yet” Dr. Pitzer explained.
“Excuse me?” Mr. Ryou asked throwing a very confused look at Ryou.
“Um…you son, he was in the hospital because of a gunshot wound to the abdominal area and the doctors discovered Bakura had been using drugs, more specifically pot and I was his psychologist here at the hospital and Bakura’s look-a-like cousin came just about 30 minutes ago and took him out of here, I was wondering if you could bring him back so that he may fully recover” the doctor explained calmly.
“I was completely unaware of all this, I just returned yesterday, however, if you say he needs to come back then…” Mr. Ryou looked over at his son.
Ryou starred at his father, his eyes wide with tears, shaking his head no.
“Please don’t send me back” Ryou whispered, “I promise I’ll be ok, please father, please” Ryou begged.
“Hold on a moment would you please doctor?” Mr. Ryou said, holding a hand over the phone. “Ryou, if you let me help you and promise you will try to get better from what ever is bothering you, I won’t make you go, but you’ve got to promise me, or I will send you away to get help.”
“I promise” Ryou nodded letting himself smile in relief.
“Good”, Mr. Ryou uncovered the phone, “Yes, Dr. Pitzer, I believe Ryou will be fine, thank you for your concern, have a nice day” Mr. Ryou didn’t listen to the woman protest as he hung up the phone.
Ryou ran to his father, putting his arms tightly around his father’s neck, “Oh, thank you dad, thank you!” Ryou smiled, forgetting that he was hugging his dad while he was still wet from the rain.
“You’re welcome, now go change into dry clothes, I don’t want you getting sick. Then come back down here, we need to talk” Mr. Ryou said sternly yet kindly.
“Be right back” Ryou agreed, running upstairs.
“He doesn’t seem at all like he was this morning…wait a minute, if he was in the hospital, then who was here earlier? And he doesn’t have a look-a-like cousin, does he? If he did, he’d have to be from my side of the family, we’re the one with the white hair, I am so confused” Mr. Ryou sighed, sitting down on the couch.
A moment later Ryou came down the stairs wearing a normal pair of jeans, an average t-shirt, and his hair neatly combed, unlike this morning ‘he’ was wearing tight black jeans, and a button-up shirt that was black with large flames on it, and his hair was a mess. Ryou sat beside his dad on the couch and looked at the older man with an expectant look on his face as if waiting for his father to say something first.
“First of all, why were you taking drugs?” Mr. Ryou asked.
Ryou looked down at the floor, “I heard kids at school talk about it and how good it made them feel, so I decided I’d try it. I knew it was wrong, but…I just wanted the pain to go away.”
“What pain?” Mr. Ryou asked, putting a comforting arm around his son.
“The depression of you always being gone, I couldn’t even remember what you looked like. And mom and Amane being gone, I couldn’t remember them either. Then my friends, they never seem to pay too much attention to me, especially Yugi. I hate how he has a crush on Tea. I just want…and then Bakura always just…” then Ryou stopped, his eyes wide, he had said way too much.
“Son, you’re Bakura. And what about this Yugi? I’m trying to understand, but I am really confused. I know you’re gay, and I suppose…I suppose I can deal with that, I mean there’s not much I can really do about it. Wasn’t your boyfriend’s name Marik? Isn’t that what you called him? Who’s Yugi? And why are you talking about yourself in third person? And why does your room look so…awful? I feel I just don’t know you anymore. Are you sure you don’t need professional help? And why did the doctor say you had a cousin look-a-like?” Mr. Ryou was getting a major headache.
Ryou sighed to himself. He wanted to tell his dad everything. He wanted the two of them to be closer, but he just couldn’t. His father would never understand, he’s already seen Bakura and now his father thinks he’s crazy. He only had one decision. Ryou decided it would be best if Bakura used the power of the Ring to erase his father’s memory of all this.
“I’m just stressed and tired, dad, could we talk later?” Ryou asked, giving his dad one of his sweet smiles.
“Sure, I think I should go lie down as well” Mr. Ryou said, standing and slowly walking upstairs.
Ryou sighed to himself. A moment later he heard his father’s bedroom door close, then the phone rang. Ryou picked up the phone that was next to the couch.
“Ryou residence, Bakura speaking” Ryou answered.
“Bakura, is Ryou there?” Ryou heard Yugi ask.
“Oh, Yugi, this is Ryou” Ryou corrected his friend.
“Oh, ok. How are you doing? I heard what happened, Tristan told me yesterday. I visited you in the hospital, but when I came you were sleeping. Anyway, we were all worried about you…um, especially me” Yugi said, Ryou almost hearing him blush.
“Really? Thank you, I suppose I’ll be ok” Ryou said in a sad tone.
“You don’t sound so sure, would you like to come over and talk about it?” Yugi asked.
“You don’t mind?” Ryou asked, trying to hide his excitement that his crush was asking him to come over.
“Not at all, that’s what friends are for, who knows, maybe I can help you” Yugi smiled.
“Alright, then. I’ll be over in a few minutes” Ryou couldn’t help but smile.
“Great, I’ll meet you half way” Yugi said excited, hanging up the phone.
Meanwhile, Bakura found his way to Marik’s house and rung the doorbell. Malik answered the door, his lip bleeding and his clothes cut as if with a dagger.
“Hey, Bakura” Malik answered out of breath.
Bakura raised an eyebrow, “What happened to you?” he asked as he came in.
“Oh, Marik and I were fighting over the last Honey Bun, those things are so good, you know?” Malik nodded and licked his lips just thinking about the pastry.
“Uh-huh, who won?” Bakura nodded at the teenager.
“We both did, I guess. See, at first I did because I bit his cock, and was able to eat half of it while he recovered, but then he jumped up at me with his stupid dagger and started slashing my skin, and I dropped it! I was so disappointed in myself; anyway, while I laid on the floor in pain, he ate the other half. It’s all good, I guess, Isis will be back from the grocery store soon with more” Malik shrugged.
“Hi, Bakura” Marik said, walking up behind his hikari, licking his fingers from eating the Honey Bun, also bruised and bloody from the fight.
“Well, I’m glad to see you two getting along better” Bakura said sarcastically, looking at Marik.
Getting the hint Malik broke the silence, “Well, I’m going to…go clean up then head over to Yami’s, we haven’t fucked in hours, it’s about time I give him a good whipping” Malik laughed.
“You mean him give you a whipping” Marik called.
“Shut up, what do you know about my love life?” Malik yelled, slamming the door to the bathroom.
“Yeah, he knows Yami beats his ass” Marik chuckled, then turned to Bakura, “So, how’s Ryou?”
“Fine, he’ll be ok, I’ll take care of his dad later” Bakura shrugged.
“Not like how you took care of his grandma, I hope, then you’d be following in my foot steps” Marik smiled.
“No, nothing like that…yet. He’d not really around enough for those measures. No, I came by to talk to you” Bakura finally confessed.
Marik raised an eyebrow, “To ‘talk’ to me? Are you sure?” Marik asked, sitting down on the black leather couch, followed by Bakura.
“Yes, I’m sure. There’s something I need to tell you” Bakura looked over at his lover.
“Ok, I’m listening” Marik tried to hide his nervousness.
“I’ve never said this to anyone before, but um…I just want you to know that…Marik, I’m in love with you, I mean really in love with you, and I want us to always be together, you mean so much to me, you really do” Bakura took Marik’s right hand and kissed in softly.
Marik starred at Bakura wide-eyed, “Huh? I mean…I don’t know what to say, honestly. I didn’t think you felt the same as I did, I…” Marik was cut off by Bakura’s lips, which kissed him more tenderly then the brutal kisses he was use to, causing him to moan ever so pleasurably into Bakura’s mouth.
Isis then came into the house and seen Marik and Bakura.
“Oh, Ra, here’s the food, I’m leaving” Isis said, quickly walking into the kitchen and putting the bags on a counter.
“Hey, sis!” Malik came into the room, looking at Marik and Bakura as the two began to feel each other’s bodies and kiss more passionately.
“Where are you going?” Isis asked her brother.
“To get me some of that from my man” Malik winked, nodding at the two yamis.
“Well, have fun” Isis sighed.
“Oh, I will. Whatchya’ gonna’ do?” Malik asked, grabbing his leather jacket from the closet beside the front door.
“I think I’ll just go to Mai’s for a while” Isis said, putting the food up real quick.
Malik got a big grin on his face, “You know, sis, you sure do see her a lot.”
“We’re friends, I can’t believe you, Malik!” Isis snapped.
“I didn’t say anything! I just said you saw her a lot, what’s the matter, guilty of something?” Malik laughed, running out of the house, his sister chasing after him with her new frying pan.
Bakura lay on top of Marik, both of them had their shirts off by time Malik and Isis left the house.
“Why…don’t we go…to your room?” Bakura said breathlessly.
“Good idea, oh, and I know you love me and all, but…don’t be so gentle” Marik smiled devilishly, “You know how I like it”
Bakura licked his lips, “Rough and bloody.”
“Bakura?” Marik panted.
“What?” Bakura said impatiently.
“I can’t wait until we get to my room” Marik said, biting Bakura’s shoulder until it bleed.
“It’s just down the hall” Bakura grunted.
Marik let go of Bakura’s shoulder, licking the blood from his lips, “I know” he smiled.

SecretSoul: I dunno about ya’ll, but this, I think, it actually quite a bizarre fic, not that I re-read it. It is yet another I had written a while back that I edited…through spell check and getting rid of all the chapter lines…things.
