A/N: This is my first try at writing Yu-gi-oh!-fiction.
I've only recently developed an interest in the show and seen a few
episodes. Feel free to help me out, if I write too OOC. I took a few
liberties with Seto's age, so he could go to the same class as Yuugi,
Jounouchi and the others. I don't have a beta reader, but if anybody
would be willing to take the job, just contact me.
Chapter 1 – Fog
'What a waste of time. How the hell am I supposed to
keep my stocks in check if my phone isn't working?' Seto Kaiba, CEO
of Kaiba Corporation, was extremely pissed. This school week was
dedicated to 'special projects' and their teacher had decided to take
his class on a camping trip in the woods. 'As soon as my mobile finds
a connection again, that idiot is getting fired.'
It wasn't only the fact, that the weather was horrible
and they had to carry their extremely heavy equipment. No. What Seto
hated most was that the teacher had dared to pair him off with the
mutt. Now he was stuck with that complete idiot for the rest of the
week, working on the assignments, that had been distributed.
'Study the wild plants of Japan.' Seto would have
snorted in amusement, but that was something a Kaiba never did. 'If I
want to study plants I go to a botanic garden or search the
Internet.' Brushing his damp hair away from
his eyes he walked on, still glaring at his phone.

The young CEO wasn't the only one, who was annoyed by
the constant drizzling of rain and the fog, that seemed to grow
thicker, the further they walked. Fine clouds of mist swirling around
his feet and obscuring his path, Jounouchi trodded next to his
friends Yuugi, Anzu and Honda.
Not in the best of moods, Jou tried to ignore Anzu's
constant chatter about how interesting the trip would be. His friends
constant good mood withstood even the most bleary weather and was
extremely grating on his nerves at the moment. He had looked forward
to the trip himself, but then the teacher just had to ruin it all by
pairing him off with the one person he desperately wanted to be with
and avoid at all costs at the same time.
'Real great. A full week of being treated as stupid and
inferior. Why can't I actually have a crush
on someone, who likes me?' Jou was shaken out of his miserable
thoughts, when the whole class suddenly stopped. Immediately the
students started to chatter loudly amongst themselves, until their
teacher managed to calm them down slightly.
“The fog is getting so thick, that we have to be
careful to not loose one of our group. I
want you to form a line, each of you standing next to their partner.”
'Now we only need to hold hands and we're back in
kindergarten.' Grumbling to himself, Jou searched for Kaiba and
spotted him at the very end of the line. He wasn't keen on going over
to the tall brunet, but if he waited for the other to come to him,
they would still be standing around in a million years. 'Arrogant
prick.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ignoring the grumbling boy walking next to him, Kaiba
followed his class mates. It had stopped raining a short while ago,
but unfortunately the fog had gotten thicker. Seto was barely able to
see the backs of his class mates, while the path was completely
hidden under swirls of mist.
Suddenly Jou stumbled over a tree root, that had lain
hidden and landed flat on his nose. 'Typical. The klutz isn't even
able to walk properly.' Not turning around or waiting for the other
teen, he called over his shoulder: “Hurry up, mutt. I don't
want to stand around in this weather, because you are too stupid to
walk.”
He could hear Jou scrambling to his feet, but he didn't
pay attention to the sound. When the blond caught up with him, his
face was smudged with dirt and contorted in anger. The CEO didn't see
the deep hurt in Jou's eyes, that the other tried to cover with his
rage.
“I'm no mutt, asshole. And I'm not stupid
either.”
Ignoring the annoying voice
next to himself, Seto walked on, not even glancing at Jou. That only
served to heighten the teen's anger further. He may have been hurt by
Kaiba's constant comments, but he was also angered by the fact, that
the other teen didn't even give him a chance to prove that he wasn't
as dumb as the other suspected.
“Hey, money bags, look at me, when I'm yelling at
you.”
“Why would I do that? I do not concern myself
with your childish demeanor.”
“You stuck up prick. You may have all those
idiots in your firm looking up to you and kissing your butt, but here
you're no better than anybody else.”
“I assure you, mutt. I am better than you no
matter, where you are.”
While they launched into their flurry of insults, they
had inadvertently stopped walking. Since
they were bringing up the rear end of the student group, nobody
realized that they slowly got swallowed by the thick fog. They had
barely argued for five minutes, when the rest of the group had
completely vanished in the surrounding whiteness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The mutt insult is getting pretty old, can't you
think of a new one?”
“I have no need to think of new insults, for you
are too insignificant to warrant such an effort.”
Jou was still trying to come up with a good retort to
that, when the brunet suddenly started cursing. Looking around
himself, he realized that they had stopped during their argument and
had lost sight of the group. Due to the fog, they were unable to spot
the path, they had been following.
'No, no, no, no. This can't be happening. Shit. Why is
it always me.' He looked at the CEO, who was busy glaring at him.
Well, Jou had had dreams about being lost in the woods with the
handsome brunet, but most of them had concentrated on being naked in
front of a campfire instead of being lost. And the possibility, that
they could actually get lost on a harmless school trip had never
occurred to him either.
“This is all your fault, stupid mutt.”
“WHAT?” Jou incredulously
looked at Seto. “Are you kidding me? How is this mess my
fault?”
“Simple: If you weren't too dumb to walk, we
never would have fallen behind.”
Having said that, Seto turned in the direction, he
suspected the path to be and started walking. Jou was relatively
certain, that it was the wrong direction, so he spoke up: “You're
going the wrong way, rich boy. The path is in that direction.”
He clarified his meaning by pointing in the direction, he suspected
the path to be.
“Well, good for you, dog boy. Why don't you hurry
off in that direction and get lost.”
Ignoring Jounouchi further, the blue-eyed teen walked
into the direction he had chosen, unknowingly leaving the path. His
figure was already fading in the thick swirls of mist, when Jou
decided to follow him. He wasn't completely sure of the right way
himself, since the trees looked the same in every direction and he
didn't want to be lost in the woods all by himself. Besides he wanted
to make sure, that nothing happened to the gorgeous
CEO.
