Joey moaned as his lover nipped lightly at his shoulder before thrusting deep within him. He panted as the thrusts continued and forced his exhausted body to arch, his hips rising into his lover's movements in the same steady and relentless rhythm. "Ungh... Seto... I'm close..."
A low moan was the initial response, then his lover's voice whispered in Joey's ear. "Come for me, puppy."
Joey's eyes widened, then narrowed. He started to reply but that one moment of inattention was all his body needed to slip beyond his fragile control. He came with a wordless cry, his back arching as his slender body shuddered with the force of his release. Spent, he sank down into the soft warmth of the mattress beneath him, acutely aware of the sound of his lover's cry echoing his own. Joey fancied he felt the warm flow of liquid within him as Seto released deep inside his body. He definitely felt the weight of his lover as the brunette slumped on top of him.
"Get off me." The low growl apparently surprised Seto. Joey felt a flash of satisfaction as he watched his lover's eyes widen.
"Joey? What is it? Did I hurt you?" For once there was no trace of Seto Kaiba's usual smug arrogance in either his voice or his sapphire eyes. Instead, both were filled with the care and concern that only two people ever saw. Seto's younger brother Mokuba and Joey. But this was one time when that knowledge didn't warm the blonde's heart.
"Not physically. Now get off me. I have to go shower." Joey looked away, unable to bear another moment of looking into the worried eyes of his lover.
"No. Not until you tell me what the problem is." A trace of the cold-hearted CEO had returned to Seto's voice. Joey was glad to hear it. He always found it easier to yell at Seto when he wasn't playing the considerate lover.
"The problem is that ya did it again, Kaiba." He used the name deliberately, wanting to make it clear that the intimacy between them was gone. Joey knew his message had been received when the body covering his tensed.
"What did I do? Make you scream in pleasure? It is hardly the first time." There was smugness, but there was also confusion in Seto's voice.
"You called me 'puppy'. You know how much I hate that." Joey still looked away, refusing to look into the eyes that he just knew were now filling with shock. He didn't mind the shock. What he couldn't bear to see was the look of remorse that always followed it.
"Joey... I am truly sorry. I did not mean to. It merely... slipped out in my excitement." The words were just what Joey expected to hear. The tone was perfect in its sincerity. If he hadn't heard it countless times before, exactly the same words spoken in exactly the same tone, Joey might have been fooled into believing that Seto meant it.
"Yeah. That's what ya said last time. And the time before that. And the time before that!" Joey's head turned as he met his lover's eyes again, allowing Seto to see the mix of hurt and anger burning in his gaze. "But it doesn't stop ya from calling me that, does it?"
Seto winced. He couldn't deny it, since it was the truth. "I... Joey, I really do not understand why you dislike it so much. I mean... you call me Dragon sometimes and I rather like that. It is like a pet name."
The moment the words were out of Seto's mouth, Joey could see the stunned horror in his lover's eyes. But it didn't change the fact that he had just said the worst thing he possibly could have said. Joey glared at him.
"Yeah. Exactly. Callin' ya Dragon is a compliment. It's a powerful creature, it reminds me of you and I know how much ya love it, what with your obsession over the Blue Eyes White. Your callin' me a dog all the time is just insultin'. I ain't your pet, Kaiba. I'm your lover. I agreed to this relationship because you promised me that we'd be equals in it. Well here's some news for ya. If you can't treat me with the same respect that I show you, then we're..."
"Joey! No! Please don't leave me!" The words burst out of Seto, shocking both of them. For almost a minute they just lay there, Seto with his body resting on top of Joey's as they stared into each other's eyes. Finally, Seto licked his lips in an oddly nervous gesture. "I... I do not want to lose you. You are... very important to me." His voice was quiet and hesitant, a strange shift from his usual confident manner.
"I know. You're important to me too. This... what we have... is important to me. But without respect... what we have is... less than nothin'." Joey's voice was choked and he bit his lip to keep himself focused on the task at hand. If he couldn't get through to Seto about this, then he knew there was only one thing he could do. He didn't want to end their relationship, but if Seto didn't respect him then it was better they end it before he ended up losing respect in himself.
"Joey... I respect you. How can you think that I do not?" Seto's voice revealed his hurt. "I have not called you 'mutt' even once since we started seeing each other, and it has been almost four months now."
Joey had to admit that was true. Just the other day, Tristan had commented on the same thing. Except for the bit about seeing each other. No one knew about that yet. Which was another reason why Joey doubted Seto's words when he said he respected him.
He had agreed to keep their relationship private initially, sure. At the time, he and Seto had wanted to see whether things would work out between them. They wanted some privacy, rather than having to deal with the media storm that revealing their relationship would have caused. But since then, Seto had shown no interest at all in going public and Joey was beginning to wonder if he was just a passing fling for the other teen.
That, on top of the fact that Seto kept calling him 'puppy' whenever they were alone, was making Joey doubt his worth to his lover. He hated that most of all.
"Yeah. You don't call me 'mutt' in public. But you still call me 'puppy' in private. Ya know what, Kaiba? If it has to be one or the other, I'd prefer it the other way around. After all, no one's supposed to know that you and me are together, are they? People are startin' to notice your lack of insults. Of course, if they could see into your bedroom they'd hear plenty. 'Come for me, puppy' and 'Want to play, puppy?' I'm surprised ya don't tell me what a good boy I am." Although he tried, Joey couldn't keep his bitterness out of his voice. "Now get off me!"
Seto slowly rolled off to the other side of the bed. Joey's heart wrenched as he felt his lover slip out of him. He had been so angry that he hadn't even noticed they were still joined. Tears burned in his eyes as he stood up and walked into the bathroom, but he refused to shed them. He kept telling himself over and over that Seto wasn't worth getting upset over.
As he stood under the hot spray a few minutes later, Joey refused to admit that some of the liquid streaming down his face was salty.
@-->-->----
When Joey emerged from the bathroom, he wasn't surprised to see Seto dressed and waiting for him. He was, however, more than a little aroused by the sight of his lover in casual jeans and a cashmere sweater, sitting on the bed where the tangled sheets attested to how they'd spent that Saturday afternoon. As if that weren't enough, Seto's feet were bare. There was just something about the sight of Seto Kaiba fully dressed except for his feet that left Joey feeling rather weak in the knees. Refusing to let his lover see how affected he was, Joey looked away and strode to the side of the closet where some of his things were hanging. "I'll be out of here as soon as I get dressed."
"I have a proposition for you."
The soft voice made Joey hesitate in mid reach for the closet handle. He forced himself not to look over his shoulder. If he did, he knew Seto's sapphire eyes would catch his gaze. Joey could feel them burning into his bare back as he stood there. He swallowed past the lump in his throat and forced himself to reply.
"What is it?" He was proud of the fact that his voice remained steady, even though it was quieter than he liked.
"One more night."
Joey frowned. "Kaiba..."
"Just give me one more night to prove to you that I see us as equals."
Although his first instinct was to say no, there was something in Seto's voice that made Joey change his mind. It wasn't the determination he heard, although knowing that Seto was not willing to let him go so easily did warm the part of him that had been growing colder since he had left Seto's bed earlier. No, it was the hint of desperation that Joey was defenceless against. He sighed softly. "When?"
"Tonight."
"What time?"
"Seven."
"I'll be here."
It was what they always did. Keeping their relationship private meant they could only be together in the one place where Seto was certain his privacy would not be breached. His own home. Not once had they gone anywhere else. Realising how familiar that pattern was made it even clearer to Joey that it was time to end it.
He would give Seto one last night, but after that... it would be all over.
@-->-->----
The first indication Joey had that the night was going to be different from their usual night in came when he opened the door to the apartment building where he lived with his father. He took one step outside and froze in surprise, his gaze locked on Seto's limousine, waiting out in front of the building.
As he walked down the front path, he tried to tell himself it had to be someone else's car. He almost had himself convinced of the fact when he reached the street. Then the driver opened his door and stepped out, nodding to him. "Good evening, Mister Wheeler." He opened the door to the back seat and waited patiently for Joey to stop staring at him. When that did not happen right away, his rigid demeanour softened slightly. "Mister Kaiba instructed me to wait for you, this evening."
Joey blinked and nodded slightly. "Oh. Right. He... didn't mention that to me." He hesitantly approached the car; his heart thumping with hope even as he tried to tell himself that there was no way Seto would have come for him. He peered into the back seat, then his shoulders slumped slightly. Silently, Joey climbed into the empty backseat.
"I believe it was a last-minute decision, sir." The chauffeur caught a glimpse of Joey's startled eyes as he closed the door. It was an understandable reaction. After all, Seto Kaiba planned everything down to the last detail. He never made last-minute decisions.
As they drove through the streets of Domino, Joey rested his head back against the headrest and looked idly out of the tinted window. He tried to make himself enjoy the luxury, since it was probably going to be the only time he ever experienced it, but that knowledge left him feeling so empty that he couldn't work up much enthusiasm. Joey wasn't so distracted that he missed it when the driver turned into the shopping district though.
Frowning, he leaned forward and knocked lightly on the privacy screen. "Hey! Where are ya takin' me? This ain't the way to Kaiba's."
The chauffeur's patient voice came through the intercom. "No, sir. Mister Kaiba instructed me to take you to the Nikatashi Department Store. He is waiting for you there."
"Oh. Okay. Thanks." Joey sat back, stunned. He shook his head and stared out the window into the night. "He couldn't be thinking of... nah... there's no way he'd do that." He whispered the words to his reflection in the window, but his reflection didn't look any more certain of the words than Joey felt.
When the limousine pulled up outside the front of the department store, Joey didn't wait for the chauffeur. He was out of the door and standing on the pavement, his gaze caught by the figure leaning against the store's display window, before the chauffeur had even opened his own door. "What's goin' on?"
"I will explain once we are inside," Seto said softly as he passed Joey on the way to the car. He nodded to the chauffeur and gestured for him to lower the window, then leaned down slightly to speak to the man. "That will be all for now. I will call you when we are ready to leave."
"Yes, Mr Kaiba."
As the limousine drove away, Seto turned and walked past Joey, barely glancing at him as he went inside the store, the door opening despite the fact that closing time had been well over an hour earlier. Bemused, Joey followed his lover inside.
"Seto..." He blinked and looked around, his eyes slowly adjusting to the change of light. Outside, the streetlights had lit up the street almost as brightly as daylight, but the inside of the store was only dimly lit with the weak lights that were left on all night for security reasons. The lighting confirmed Joey's suspicions as much as the lack of any shoppers or store clerks. "What did ya do, hire out the whole store?" He stared at Seto's smug smile. "No way."
"But of course, Joey. How else could I have arranged this?" Seto smiled and spread out his arms, indicating the surrounding area. "The store is all ours until five o'clock, when the cleaning crew arrives. We will need to leave before then though. If my presence here was discovered, the media would have a field day."
Joey barely had time to nod before Seto turned and started striding along the aisle. "Come with me. I have something to show you. I... believe you will... enjoy it."
For a moment, Joey was tempted to remain where he was and demand an explanation. It was only the trace of hesitation in Seto's voice at the last that made him reconsider. "I'll follow ya, but you'd better explain all this."
By the time they reached the store manager's office, Joey was beginning to enjoy himself. There was just something about being in a department store after closing time that felt... forbidden. The knowledge that the store should have been empty and yet there he was, inside it, sent a tingle of excitement up his spine. As he stepped into the office, Joey knew that he would listen to what Seto had to say.
Seto took a seat in one of the two chairs set up in front of the manager's desk. Joey raised an eyebrow at his lover as he settled himself in the other chair. It wasn't like Seto to forego the 'position of power' when it was available. Seto had explained it to him once. If there was a desk in the room, then the person behind it held the best bargaining position, since it was human instinct that the person behind the desk was the one with the most authority. Joey regarded his lover thoughtfully, knowing that his sitting in front of the desk meant that he wanted their talk to be on equal terms.
To most people, it would not have meant much. To Joey, it was a start.
The blonde teen leaned back in his chair and studied his lover. "Okay Seto, what's this all about?"
Seto leaned forward, his eyes locking with Joey's. "Do you remember a discussion we had a few weeks ago about... dreams and fantasies?"
Joey wasn't surprised by the question. The moment he'd heard where Seto was meeting him, he'd suspected that conversation, one of the few truly intimate ones they'd had, might have had something to do with it. "Yeah. I remember it. You wondered if anyone had created a vibrator shaped like a Blue Eyes White and I said that your obsession was officially out of control."
A slight smile curved Seto's lips. "Then I asked you if you didn't have any dreams or fantasies, or if I had already made them all come true just by being your lover."
As he had then, Joey snickered. "So I straddled ya and made ya writhe and squirm until ya came, screamin' my name, and just by tellin' ya a few little daydreams I'd had."
Seto shook his head, looking amused. "If those were what you call 'little daydreams', I do not want to know what you would call an 'erotic feast of the senses'. But in amongst all of your sexual delights, you said one thing that I have found myself unable to move from my mind."
Joey smirked. "Why Seto, I never figured you to be into public nudity. That is the fantasy you're talkin' about, right? The one where you and me are in a department store alone late at night, long after closing, and we strip off all our clothes and then have sex right in the store's display window?"
Twin sapphires gleamed as Seto's smile became a wicked smirk. "Yes and no. As I was debating the best way to prove to you that you have my respect, it occurred to me that we should be completely equal in tonight. Meaning, that if I was to make one of your fantasies come true, then you should make one of mine come true, also."
The blonde teen considered that for a bit before nodding. "Sure. Sounds fair to me. So how are we workin' it? My fantasy first and then yours? Or is yours somethin' we can do here too?"
For just an instant, Joey thought he caught a flash of nervousness in Seto's eyes. Then it was gone and he was left wondering if he'd only imagined it.
"Actually, if we... adapt... your fantasy a little, we can do them both at the same time."
Joey arched an eyebrow. "Sounds like fun. So what's the change and what's your fantasy?"
Again that flash of emotion appeared in Seto's eyes. Again Joey could have sworn it to be nervousness. Again it vanished before he could get a good enough look to be sure.
"The store's display window is currently covered by a curtain as the staff here arrange a new display. If we were do it without the curtain, I am sure you are aware of just how much trouble we could get into." Seto raised an eyebrow and Joey nodded in agreement. "Also, as the weather is rather cold at the moment, if we were naked we could be putting our health at risk. That is where my fantasy comes in."
Seto stood up and moved over to a large box sitting on the floor behind his chair. Taking a deep breath, as if to steady his nerves, he opened the box and pulled out something that could only have come from the Fancy Dress store a few blocks away.
Joey took one look at the costume and went pale. He was standing and glaring at Seto before he even realised he was going to move. "There is *no* way in *Hell* I'm wearing *that*!"
@-->-->----
Half an hour later, as he thrust in rhythm with his lover, Joey was still wondering how Seto had managed to talk him into this crazy stunt. Even though the night was a cool one, and the store's air-conditioning was still on, it was still hot inside the costume he wore. It was also itchy and uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable. He sighed as he realised that Seto had somehow managed to squish his tail between their bodies, so it was digging into Joey's back. That thought vanished from his mind as his lover moved against him though. He moaned loudly as he felt his release approaching.
Despite his physical discomfort, Joey couldn't remember ever being more turned on in his life. It wasn't just their being in the empty store. It was also more than their humping like wild bunnies in the curtained display window. It definitely wasn't the costumes, although he had to admit that he felt a certain thrill on seeing Seto dressed as he was. Or perhaps the thrill came from knowing that he was the sole reason why the normally staid CEO of Kaiba Corp. was dressed in something so ridiculous. The end result was the same. Everything had come together and Joey was intensely aroused and wanted... no, *needed*... Seto as he had never wanted or needed Seto before.
"Seto! Nngh... Ooh yeah... Seto! I'm close... Dragon, I'm so close!"
They moved together harder and faster and deeper than before and Joey screamed out Seto's name as he came. At the same time, Seto cried out wordlessly and pushed against him as hard as he could.
Afterwards, they were never entirely sure how it had happened. All they knew for certain was, as they found their release together, they somehow managed to get their legs entangled and started to fall. Instinctively, they grabbed at the nearest thing to try to catch themselves. Unfortunately, the curtain that shielded the display window, and them, from the outside world had not been made to be tugged on so forcefully. There was a loud ripping sound and then Joey, Seto and the curtain all tumbled to the floor of the display window.
In full view of everyone passing by.
Luckily for the two embarrassed teens, it was late enough at night that there was only a dozen or so people who caught sight of them. Or rather, as one little old lady later told a reporter, caught sight of 'someone in a dog suit with his... oh my... out in full view and someone in a dragon suit with his bottom showing. And a very nice bottom it was too.'
@-->-->----
The next day, it was in all the papers. Somehow (it was a wonder what a phone call from Seto Kaiba to the store manager could achieve), the news that Seto Kaiba had been the one to hire out the store for the night had not become known. Instead, the papers were all running front page stories about how two unnamed male store clerks had been caught 'in flagrant delecto'. Or, as the tabloids put it, 'with their pants up but their curtain down'. Joey couldn't help but snicker as Tristan read that bit out.
He and Tristan were helping Yugi to mind his Grandpa's store for a couple of hours while he ran some errands. Joey normally enjoyed helping his best bud out, but today he was regretting making the promise earlier in the week. From the looks Tristan had been giving him ever since he showed up, newspaper in hand, he knew it was only a matter of time before his secret was out.
"So... Joey... I take it that you and Kaiba had fun last night?" Tristan's eyes were sharp as he watched Joey carefully, judging his reaction.
Yugi gasped. "Tristan! What are you saying?"
Joey flashed a grin at Yugi. "Relax, Yug. Tristan's got it right. That was me and Seto at the store last night." He looked at Tristan and his eyes narrowed into a warning look. "But that goes no farther than here, got that bro?"
Tristan looked rather surprise, but he nodded. "Yeah. Sure. I can't believe you just admitted it so casually though."
Joey shrugged, a wicked little smirk tugging at his lips. "Well why not? After all, it's not like it's gonna be a secret for much longer that me and Seto Kaiba are together. He's going public about it next week."
Yugi and Tristan both stared at him in shock. Finally, Yugi spoke up. "You and Kaiba are... together? But Joey... isn't this rather... sudden?"
"Yeah! I mean, just last week he insulted your duelling skills four times!" Tristan shook his head. "It's hard enough to believe that you'd have sex with him but for you and him to be... dating?" He looked at Joey in disbelief. "Has he got something on you? Do you need help with him? 'Cause if you need anything, I'm there for you, man."
"Me too, Joey!" Yugi nodded, his large violet eyes filled with determination.
Joey smiled at them both. "You guys are the best friends a guy could have. But it's okay. Really. Truth is, we've been seein' each other for the past four months. I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you guys but I wanted to be sure it would work out first. After last night, I am."
Tristan stared at him but Yugi ran over and threw himself at Joey, hugging him tightly. "Oh Joey! I'm so glad you and Kaiba are happy together!"
Tristan nodded and held out his hand, clapping his friend on the shoulder. "Yeah, it's great Joey. But I don't get it. Why did last night make you decide it would work out? I mean..." He studied the newspaper and frowned as he searched for the bit he was looking for. "According to this, he made you dress up in a dog suit." He looked at Joey and his frown deepened. "You hate those things. You have ever since you lost that bet that time and had to dress up in one."
Joey smiled a smile so serene that both Tristan and Yugi stepped back several paces in sudden fear. "Ah, but that's what made me sure that he thinks of me as an equal and not as some sort of pet." His eyes fairly danced with amusement. "Check out the description of the dragon, Tris."
Frowning, Tristan did just that. "Um... Oh, here it is. 'The second unidentified male was wearing a black dragon costume... Wait a minute." He stared in shock at the paper, then slowly lifted his head to stare at Joey.
Joey was still smiling serenely. "Yeah, that's right. Seto Kaiba was the puppy in the window."
