~ * ~
With a begrudging sigh,
Yugi left the school premises after saying good bye to his friends. They were
just as worried as he was. It had been nearly four weeks since they had last
seen Yami. No-one in the area had seen him, either. The police had been working
as hard as they could to get any leads. But all open roads had been shut down.
Now, the police put it
down to Yami running away, instead of being kidnapped. Yugi would have believed
them, if he hadn’t of known Yami as well as he did. Yami showed no sign of
wanting to run away or leave his friends behind. He wouldn’t do such a thing. It
wasn’t like him.
Starting the walk home,
Yugi lowered his head. Christmas was just around the corner and Yugi believed
that neither he nor his friends would be having a joyous time if Yami still
hasn’t shown up. Even if he were dead, it would be some form of closure. Not
knowing anything was a lot worse.
Entering the game store,
Yugi locked the door behind himself. Since Yami’s disappearance, the door was
always locked behind him when he returned from school. Heading up to the living
quarters on the second floor, Yugi gave a weary hello to his grandpa as he
continued to his room. He dropped his bag and threw himself onto his bed.
Laying face down, hugging
his pillow, Yugi closed his eyes. Every night he always wished that Yami would
return. That he would wake up and find his other half in his bed, that all this
had been some horrible nightmare. And every morning, he would wake to find an
empty bed.
Would he? Would he run
away? Yugi got
to his knees, shaking his head. How could he think such a thing? Yami would
never do that to any of them. He wasn’t that sort of person. He would return. He
would be back, soon. And he would have a good reason as to why he was gone for
so long.
Yugi removed his school
uniform, pulling on pyjamas. He didn’t feel like eating tonight. All he wanted
to do was sleep. Crawling under the covers, Yugi stared at the ceiling for a
while. As he closed his eyes, he could have sworn he heard Yami’s voice.
Jolting awake, Yugi
looked around the dark room. Something was happening. Grandpa was still awake,
and he was talking to someone. Glancing at the clock beside his bed, Yugi saw it
was ten o’clock. Sitting up, he ran his hands through his hair, getting out of
bed.
Wandering into the living
room, one eye closed as he rubbed it, Yugi looked around. ‘Who are you talking
to, Grandpa?’
The sleep removed from
his eye, Yugi opened it, staring at the second person in the living room. His
eyes widened even more, though it probably wasn’t possible. It wasn’t a dream.
It wasn’t just his imagination playing tricks on him. He had heard Yami’s voice.
Yami, on the other hand,
didn’t look too good. In fact, he looked frightening. He had several bruises
around his mouth and eyes. His cheeks were sunken. His eyes were dead and even
his smile didn’t have a light to it.
‘Hello, Yugi,’ Yami said,
standing. The once form fitting clothes hanging loosely from his body.
Yugi stumbled over to
Yami. He wanted to know what had happened to his friend. He wanted to know what
would cause Yami to look this bad. Instead, he fell into Yami’s arms, crying. He
didn’t care what had happened. All that mattered now was that he was back.
Grandpa Motou stood,
leaving the living room. He fixed two cups of hot chocolate. He knew that Yami
and Yugi would need it. Leaving the two teens alone, he retired to his bedroom.
After everything that had just happened, he needed his rest. He had a feeling
tomorrow morning was not going to be any better.
‘Where, Yami? Why?’
Yami patted Yugi’s spiky
hair, trying to calm his lighter half, knowing it probably won’t happen for a
while. He stood there as Yugi continued to weep into his shoulder. He hadn’t
expected to be there for so long, but every time he tried to escape, he was
always caught and what happened after that was never pretty.
When Yugi had finally
calmed down a little, Yami sat him down, sitting down himself. The strength it
took to stand was a little unbearable at the moment. Letting out a silent sigh
of relief, Yami looked over at Yugi, who was staring at him intently, awaiting
his answers.
‘Yugi, what I’m about to
tell you must not be spoken to anyone. My whereabouts for the last month must
not be so much as whispered to the trees.’ Yami stared at Yugi, who was now
holding a mug, his eyes burning into Yami’s.
Yugi nodded. He wasn’t
about to betray his trust to Yami. After all, he was offering an explanation as
to where he had been, that’s all he wanted.
Moistening parched lips,
Yami began explaining. He had nothing to hide from his Hikari. Yugi had a right
to know where he had been for the last few weeks. He may not like it, but there
was nothing that could be done about that. That was just the way it was.
After hearing what had
happened after he was kidnapped and what had happened when he was caught trying
to escape, Yugi was in tears again. He wasn’t sure what to think. He knew it
wasn’t Yami’s fault, but the fact that something like that was happening; it was
a very upsetting thought.
Standing from the
armchair he was seated in, Yugi gazed down at Yami. ‘I think it would be best if
you shower. You’ll need a few days to get yourself together.’ Yugi offered Yami
his hand.
Yami stared at the hand.
He was not expecting that. He was expecting Yugi to call the police and have him
locked away from abuse. With a soft smile, Yami took the hand, standing from the
sofa. He headed to the bathroom. He wasn’t sure how Grandpa would handle someone
having a shower at this hour, but figured it would be excused due to current
situations.
Removing the dirty
clothing, Yami turned the shower on, watching the water. With a sigh, he stepped
under the current, allowing the water to run over his body for a few minutes.
Just enjoying the way his skin was being cleansed, knowing it would take a while
before his soul would be the same way.
After scrubbing his hair
and body, Yami turned the water off, watching the last of it go down the drain.
Now all he had to do was worry about his friends. Anzu, Honda, Jounouchi, Malik
and Ryou would be beside themselves. Bakura and Marik would be the problem. He
hoped they wouldn’t ruin the moment. All Yami wanted was to see their smiling
faces.
Stepping out of the
shower, wrapping a towel around his body, Yami wiped the vapor off the mirror
above the basin. Grabbing his toothbrush he brushed his teeth as he thought over
how he was going to explain his disappearance to them. Telling Yugi was fine,
but telling the others, there’s no way to know how they would take such a
shocking tale.
Rinsing his mouth out, he
replaced the toothbrush and wiped the drying water off his body. He wrapped the
towel around his waist, going to the bedroom he shared with Yugi. He saw panamas
set out on his bed for him. He glanced at Yugi, who smiled. Dressing quickly,
Yami crawled into bed. The covers were soft and smelt of jasmine. Closing his
eyes, he fell asleep instantly. For the first time in four weeks, he wasn’t
plagued with nightmares.
* * *
That buzzing sound was
driving him insane. Picking up the clock, Bakura threw it at a wall. Pulling the
covers over his body, he settled down to sleep again. At least, he would have if
the alarm on his phone didn’t start playing the familiar tune of Mistress.
Opening the top and closing it again, he closed his eyes.
He’d had a busy night
last night and he was not going to get up just to go to school and be bored.
Then again, he could catch up on lost sleep during class. With a groan, Bakura
sat up. He did have to go to school. They had a test that day, the one he had
been studying for last night.
Throwing back the covers,
Bakura sat on the edge of his bed. He was running his hands through his hair
when he heard Ryou squeal. Bakura figured he just stepped on Milkshakes, their
cat, again. That cat was nearly as lazy as Bakura. At least Bakura could be
bothered getting out of his own way.
Pulling on a pair of
jeans, Bakura unlocked his bedroom door just as Ryou bounded through it. He
stared at his lighter half, raising an eyebrow. He didn’t want to know what had
gotten the little imp so happy. Obviously it wasn’t Milkshakes.
‘Yami’s returned! We’re
taking the day off school to go see him!’
‘We have a test today,
Ryou. You’re not going to miss it. Go get dressed.’ Bakura walked past Ryou,
going to the bathroom. It was a rule that Bakura had made. He was to be the
first to shower.
Huh. So, the pharaoh has
returned. Good for him. Let’s just count on him to make even more trouble now
that he’s back.
Bakura took his time to wash his hair and body. It was one of the things he was
best at. He hated to be rushed. And if Ryou got impatient, Bakura would just
take longer.
He wasn’t selfish. As far
as he was concerned, he was teaching Ryou how to be patient and accept facts in
life, like Bakura taking forty-five minutes in the bathroom. Finishing his
shower, Bakura stepped out. Wiping the steam from the mirror, he checked himself
out for a good five minutes. After drooling over himself, Bakura brushed his
teeth and brushed his hair. He left the bathroom going back to his bedroom.
Dressing quickly in the
uniform, Bakura stopped before buttoning his shirt up. What did Ryou say
before? Has the pharaoh really returned? Of course he has. I was talking to
myself about it while I was in the shower, I think. Finishing doing the
shirt up, Bakura left his room and knocked on the bathroom door.
‘Take a quick shower.
We’ll drop by before school to see him!’
Going down to the
kitchen, Bakura got himself a cup of coffee as he took Ryou’s last chocolate
chip muffin. He sat down at the table, going through that day’s paper. He had
finished his coffee when he heard the shower shut off.
Eating only half of the
muffin, Bakura took his cup to the sink. He put some dry cat biscuits in
Milkshakes bowl and gathered his schoolbag. He knew it would take Ryou thirty
seconds to eat the last of the muffin, say goodbye to Milkshakes and be out the
door.
As Ryou came tearing down
the stairs, Bakura opened the door just as Malik was about to ring the bell.
Raising an eyebrow, but not wanting to know, Bakura stepped past him, walking up
to Marik. They started to head off as Ryou left the house, making their way to
the game shop.
On the way, they met the
rest of the gang. It took only a few minutes to arrive at their destination,
thankfully. Any longer with Anzu and Bakura would have sent her to the Shadow
Realm without thinking twice about it. He wondered if that girl talked in her
sleep, too.
Entering the shop, Anzu
explained they were there to see Yami. The eldest Motou took them upstairs, to
the living room. As the others fought for who was going to sit where, Bakura
stood near the entrance to the kitchen. In the end, Ryou and Malik ended up
sitting on the sofa, while Anzu knelt on the floor. Honda, Jounouchi and Marik
ended up in a mess of arms and legs on the floor.
When Yugi entered the
room, the managed to untangle themselves and greet the smaller of the two. Tears
entered Anzu’s, Honda’s, Jounouchi’s, Ryou’s, and Malik’s eyes when Yami
entered. Bakura’s widened. He knew that look of defeat anywhere. There was no
mistaking it. Before being returned home, Bakura just knew he had been raped.

End Chapter I.
Don’t forget to tell me
what think! Just don’t flame the piece of crap! I do that enough myself. I
promise it will most likely not get better as the story moves on. Thanks!
