Rating: R for petting - nothing too naughty *pouts*
Warnings: Fluff. Lots of fluff.

Disclaimer: I do not own Yugioh or any of its characters - which is probably just as well since if I did, they'd spend more time making out with each other than dueling and that would kind of miss the point of the whole show.

Dark Temptations Presents
Meeting the Dragons
@-->-->----
Yet another tournament.
Yet another duel against Seto Kaiba.
Yet another time his Red Eyes Black Dragon had been charred to a crisp by Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon.
Yet another duel lost to Seto Kaiba.
This was getting depressing.
Joey slumped in his seat on the stairs out the front of the building where the latest Duel Monsters tournament had just finished up. For once, the knowledge that Kaiba had - yet again - lost to Yugi in the finals brought little comfort to his bruised pride.
Once - just once - Joey wanted to see his dragon partner dominate Kaiba's.
Like that would ever happen. 2400 vs 3000 was quite a difference and even though he knew a few ways to boost his partner's power, Kaiba knew even more. No matter what Joey did, Kaiba always managed to stay one step ahead of him.
Sighing, Joey took his deck out of his pocket and turned over the top card. He smiled ruefully at the familiar sight of his partner. "At least ya always come when I need ya, partner. I'm sorry, Red Eyes. We lost again. I bet you're gettin' pretty disgusted with me, huh? You do your best for me, but I keep stuffin' up and we end up losin'. Man... what you must think of me. I bet Blue Eyes is happy with Kaiba, though. Does he push my mistakes in your face at every chance, like Kaiba does to me? That wouldn't be fair. It's not your fault I'm such a stuff-up."
The blonde teen gently stroked his favourite card where the dragon's head was. "I wish there was some way I could find out what you both thought of me, but Yami says it's too dangerous to go to the Shadow Realm and he refuses to even think of bringin' ya here. Somethin' about upsettin' the balance of the world and plungin' it into total chaos if he did." Joey shrugged. "Probably just as well. This way, I don't have to see your disappointment in me. Sorry, partner. I'll try harder next time, I promise."
"Joey!"
Yugi's cheerful voice rang through the air, causing Joey to turn around. He grinned at his friend and waved, slipping his deck back into his pocket with his other hand. "Hey Yug! Ready to go?"
"Yup!" Yugi grinned back at Joey and ran down the steps to join his friend. "Thanks for waiting for me. Sorry I was so long."
Joey shrugged. "No worries, buddy. Gave me a chance to sit down. I've been on my feet all day." He emphasised his groan as he got up. "I'm gettin' way too old for this whole tournament thing," he teased as he stretched, making Yugi laugh.
"You sound just like Grandpa." The tri-coloured haired boy grinned at his friend. "That's the excuse he gave me this morning to get me to dust all the high shelves in the shop."
"Oops." Joey winced. "You sure it's safe for me to go over there now?" He looked quite alarmed at the thought of being put to work.
Yugi laughed again and nodded. "Don't worry. Grandpa was going out this afternoon to run some errands. He said he wouldn't be back until late. Want to stay for dinner?"
"Ah, the magic words." Joey grinned and set off with Yugi. "What are we havin'?"
Seto Kaiba ignored their inane chatter - his mind still occupied with what he had unintentionally overheard before Yugi's appearance. As the two teens headed off, he stepped out from the shadows where he had been standing and tried to look as if he hadn't just been hiding there so the blonde and his annoying friend wouldn't see him. He hadn't been eavesdropping... exactly. He also had not followed Wheeler outside with the intention of actually initiating a conversation with him. No. That would have been entirely unlike him. He had a reputation to maintain and talking to someone like Wheeler in a public place would ruin that.
Now in a private place - well that was another matter entirely.
Shaking his head in an attempt to clear it of such inappropriate thoughts, Seto strode briskly down the steps to where his car waited. He had other things to think about.
By the time he arrived at Kaiba Corp., Seto Kaiba had the perfect plan.
@-->-->----
Two weeks after his latest humiliating defeat courtesy of Kaiba and his Blue Eyes, Joey stood in front of the last place in the world he had expected - or wanted - to be standing in front of when he had woken up that morning.
Kaiba Corp.
He had another look at the message he'd found stuffed into his locker earlier that day, but it still read the same as it had all the other times he'd read it.
'Wheeler - Kaiba Corp. 5:00pm. Come alone - I have something that might interest you. It concerns our dragons.'
If it hadn't been for the last part of the message, Joey would have simply torn up the letter and dumped the resulting confetti on top of Kaiba's arrogant head at his first opportunity.
Instead - it was 5:00pm and he was standing in front of Kaiba Corp.
He was either certifiably insane or a real glutton for punishment.
Joey was still trying to work out which when the front door opened and Kaiba stepped outside. The brunette glared at him and Joey immediately responded in kind.
"What's that look for? You were the one who told me to come here!"
"I expected you to come inside and ask for me at reception, not to stand out here looking at my building like a besotted fool!" Seto growled and then shook his head impatiently when the blonde looked like he was about to argue. "No matter. At least you are on time. I suppose that is something, anyway."
He turned back towards the door and then gave the other teen an irritated glance over his shoulder. "What are you waiting for? Follow me and be quick about it. We are already running behind schedule."
Completely lost, Joey did the only thing he could think of. He followed Kaiba. As they walked down a lushly carpeted hallway, he finally found his missing voice. "So what's this all about, Kaiba?" The thought that had popped into his head earlier resurfaced. "This isn't some sort of test for another of your virtual worlds, is it? Because I told ya back then that I wasn't gonna be a guinea pig ever again!"
The brunette spared him a glance and then looked forward again. "Not... precisely a test, no. The world itself has been finished for some time now, as you know. It has even proven to be quite successful, commercially. However, I have added something new and you and I are going to go and have a look at how it turned out."
Joey scowled. "That sounds awfully like a test, to me. Why me, anyway? Why not Yugi or Devlin? You're pals with him, right?"
"We are business associates." Seto grimaced a little. "Which is more than enough, at times. Yugi would not suit for this. It had to be you."
Joey was careful to keep his reaction at Kaiba's words from showing, but inside his heart was beating hard. "How come?"
Seto stopped at a door and spared his irritating blonde questioner a glance. "Because of all the duelists I know, you are the only one beside myself who has any real experience in Dragon type Duel Monsters." He opened the door and strode inside without another glance at the stunned blonde.
By the time the other boy joined him, Seto was already well into the start up procedure for his virtual world system. He held up a hand to forestall any questions. "It is easier to show you than to explain. Here. Put this on." He handed the bemused blonde a white visor that looked like a futuristic pair of night-vision goggles.
"This is?" Joey eyed the visor, then Kaiba with wariness born from previous experience with the brunette and his 'experiments'.
For once, Seto was willing to answer questions. "The pod system was fine for commercial gaming halls or theme parks, however it was too bulky for retail to individuals. So my project team and I came up with this. It is a variation on the standard virtual game visors you can get for other game systems."
It was a sign of how much experience Joey had with games that he understood Kaiba's long-winded explanation perfectly. "Nice. How come I haven't seen these around?" He suddenly looked wary again, his hands stopping midway to lifting the visor up to his face. "Let me guess - still in the testin' phase, right?"
"What is your preoccupation with testing?" Seto scowled irritably at the blonde boy. "No, it has already passed all of its final tests. We decided to delay the release until just before Christmas. Better sales and also one of our competitors released an inferior product while we were completing our testing." He smirked and looked as smug as a cat with a belly full of fresh cream. "According to our estimates, our version should come out just as theirs begins to wear out."
Joey relaxed and grinned. Coming from Kaiba, that made too much sense to not be the truth. "I know the one ya mean. Now I'm glad I didn't save up and get it." He put the visor on without another moment of hesitation. "Okay, I'm ready."
Seto put on his visor and then hit the power button on the side of it, telling Joey to do the same.
Their surroundings shimmered and changed as they entered the virtual world.
@-->-->----
Joey looked around. They were standing in a meadow on the outskirts of a forest. Above them, the light blue sky was streaked with white clouds patterned in the form of horses' manes. The air smelled clean and crisp and was sweet with the scent of the wildflowers that formed a rich multicoloured counter to the green meadow grass. From somewhere within the forest came low rumbling sounds like the purring of a really big cat.
"I like what you've done to this place. It seems more real. Less like a cartoon."
Seto nodded. "We decided to tone the colour palette down a little when some of the testers reported getting headaches from the glare off the brighter colours. This way." He headed towards the forest.
As they walked along the narrow forest path, Joey noticed the strange purring sounds were getting louder. "Uh, Kaiba... Ya haven't put anythin'... dangerous... in here, right?"
"Define 'dangerous'." Only the slight curving of the brunette's lips showed that he was having a little fun at the blonde's expense.
"Anythin' that would be tempted to eat us for lunch." Joey saw the smirk but decided to answer anyway. He couldn't be sure that Kaiba wasn't being serious.
"Ah. No, I do not believe they will be inclined to eat us."
"They?"
Then they emerged from the path into a large clearing and Joey had his answer before Kaiba had the chance to reply. The blonde teen stopped in his tracks and just stared in shock and awe at the two magnificent creatures sitting side by side on the far side of the clearing. He couldn't help himself.
"Kaiba - they're perfect!"
His voice caught their attention and the Red Eyes turned his head and looked down at him. With a low purring sound, he leaned down and moved forward - obviously delighted to see Joey.
"Oh wow! He knows me! Kaiba, this is seriously cool." Joey laughed and ran to his dragon, hugging him tightly and receiving a happy nuzzle in return.
He was so busy hugging his dragon that he didn't notice how still Seto was - or how the brunette's ice blue eyes were wide with shock as he watched the Blue Eyes move towards him.
The massive white dragon leaned down and nuzzled Seto almost hard enough to knock him down. "Master." The voice was soft and warm and... female? She laughed softly as Seto instinctively checked what his ears were telling him. Then Seto froze and frowned up at her.
"You can talk?" He looked uneasy. "That was not part of the program."
"Of course we can talk. Master! I am so happy to see you." Red Eyes crooned happily and nuzzled Joey firmly.
Joey hugged his dragon hard and grinned at him. "This is unbelievable!"
"Indeed. That is an excellent choice of words." Seto tried to ease back from the creature that seemed to be trying to crease his coat. The Blue Eyes pouted at him and moved a foreleg to hold him in place while she nuzzled him.
"I have waited a long time for this. I will nuzzle you, whether you like it or not. Master."
Seto's eyes narrowed at the title that seemed a little too tacked-on to be true respect. Then he sighed and gave in to his emotions. His hug was just as tight as the one the blonde was still giving to the Red Eyes. "Whatever."
Joey grinned at his dragon, incredibly happy to see him. His happiness dimmed though as he remembered his thoughts of a few weeks ago. He bit his lip hard but just hugged Red Eyes more tightly. There was no way he could ask.
After all, this wasn't really his Red Eyes. It was just a copy that Kaiba had programmed into this world.
"Do not be so sure of that, Master."
Joey blinked in shock. Had he really heard that whisper in his ear? He looked at his Red Eyes, who was moving back from the embrace.
Was it his imagination or had his dragon just winked at him?
The Blue Eyes was also moving away from Seto. As the two boys watched in growing surprise - and more than a little shock - the two dragons began to affectionately nuzzle each other.
"What the...?" Joey shot Kaiba a confused look. "Uh, Kaiba... Why are they doin' that?"
Seto scowled at the two amorous dragons, then at the irritating blonde. "Presumably because they want to." He shook his head and looked very irritable. "This was not what I programmed."
"Huh? What do ya mean?" Joey looked at the dragons. "They're perfect. It's them, Kaiba. Wait... Ya don't suppose...?" He studied the dragons more closely. Could it possibly be the Shadow Monsters themselves and not just copies?
"Do not finish that thought. It is completely ridiculous." Seto scowled more deeply and crossed his arms as he watched his dragon submissively giving Wheeler's dragon a thorough neck nuzzle. "As is their current behaviour."
The Blue Eyes turned her head and arched an eyebrow at her master. "Showing the one you love some affection is not ridiculous, Seto. You may be too afraid of his reaction to tell Joey how you feel, but fortunately for us, my beloved was not so reluctant to express his feelings to me."
Joey blinked. "Kaiba... likes me?" He looked stunned.
Seto glared at his dragon. "I have no such feelings! That it complete rubbish!"
A soft laugh was the Blue Eyes initial response, then she smiled lovingly at the two boys. "Your hearts are both so full of each other that it is strong enough for us to feel through our bonds with each of you." She shook her head as her master began to splutter out a denial. "You may fool yourself all you wish, Seto, but do not attempt to fool me. I know your mind and heart as well as I know my own."
Seto began to deny it again, but the blonde's soft voice stopped him before he could get a single word out.
"Is it true, Kaiba? Do ya really like me? 'Cause... I like you. I have for a while now."
Slowly, Seto turned to look at the other boy. Wheeler - Joey - was looking back at him. The only sign that he was at all embarrassed or uneasy about what he'd just said were the two spots of colour in his cheeks that deepened as Seto continued to look at him in silent shock.
"I guess that's a no, huh? Sorry for botherin' ya." Joey started to turn away, then froze as a hand caught his arm. He turned back and gasped as he found himself face to face with a brunette boy who had moved much closer while his back had been turned. "Kaiba, wha... ummmmph!"
The Red Eyes grinned happily as he watched the two humans kiss. "Your master has found the best way to silence my master." He sounded very smug, as if he had suggested it. "Do you suppose they will mate now?" He eyed them with undisguised eagerness as his own mate sighed.
"Not with us watching, no. Unfortunately my master has not yet discovered that particular joy." The Blue Eyes nuzzled her mate and smiled as he pouted at her. Seeing the wicked gleam that suddenly appeared in his eyes though - she looked wary.
"Why do we not show them, then?" He nuzzled her and rubbed his body against hers until - with a throaty purr of pleasure - the dragoness began to respond the same way.
Seto sighed and eased back from the kiss. "It would seem that our dragons are both voyeurs." He didn't sound particularly annoyed about it.
"Yeah. Guess we should leave them to it, huh?" As he spoke, Joey searched Kaiba's expression, trying not to get his hopes too high - or read too much into the kiss.
"Definitely." Seto took one look at his dragon and his lip twitched as he almost smiled before remembering that he was Seto Kaiba and he didn't 'do' smiling. "Touch the ring on your finger and you will return to the regular world." As he spoke, he did just that and vanished from sight.
Joey looked down at his hand and hesitated, his other hand hovering above the ring. He looked over at the dragons. "Bye Red Eyes. Bye Blue Eyes. Thanks." He smiled at them.
The Red Eyes paused in his molestation of his mate and smiled back at Joey. "Master - for the record - I have never been disappointed in you and I have never regretted having you as my master. You put your heart into every duel and - win or lose - I am always proud to fight by your side. You see me as your trusted partner and I see you in the same light. I may not be able to best my beloved on the field due to her strength, but I assure you, when it comes to other matters... I more than hold my own." He looked and sounded very smug, but the Blue Eyes who was tangled around him did not challenge his claim.
She blushed.
"Do not give up on my master. He does care for you. Far more than he is willing to admit."
Joey smiled. "Thanks. I'll remember that." He waved to them before touching the ring. "Have fun!"
The virtual world dissolved around him and the real world appeared in its place. Joey blinked, taking a few moments for his eyes to adjust to the change from sunlight to fluorescent bulbs. He looked around and his heart leaped when he spotted Kaiba on the other side of the room. "Kaiba, that was..." His voice died as the brunette glanced at him with annoyed ice eyes.
"It is time to go. The cleaners will be here soon and I do not particularly wish them to see the two of us together. There would be talk." He turned and headed for the door.
"Oh. Right. Yeah. Talk." Single words were all that Joey could manage. Kaiba's expression had completely crushed his hopes into tiny slivers that painfully pierced his heart. He slowly put his visor down beside Kaiba's and walked to the door.
"Wheeler..."
The soft voice made Joey look up. Much to his surprise, Kaiba was leaning against the wall right beside the doorway - barely a foot away from him. The blonde couldn't quite make out the look the brunette was giving him, though. It looked almost... nervous.
Seto Kaiba - nervous. Nah. That was about as likely as Red Eyes and Blue Eyes... Bad example.
"What?" He couldn't let Kaiba know how much he was hurting. If the Ice Man said anything about it, or the kiss, he had to bluff his way through it. "I'm not walkin' fast enough for ya?" Better to go on the attack.
Then Kaiba grabbed his arm and pulled him close and Joey forgot all about attack and defence. He almost forgot his own name.
The kiss was short, but deep and filled with more passion than Joey had ever thought it possible for Kaiba to feel. By the time the brunette eased away again, the blonde was panting. He looked at the other boy, dazed and very confused.
Seto smiled a little and stroked Wheeler's cheek. "I do not know about you, but I for one am planning to listen to my dragon. Dinner. My place. Now."
He turned and strode off down the hallway, his coat fluttering behind him like the wings of some bird of prey.
Joey leaned against the wall and fought to breathe. Had Kaiba just asked him to dinner? As in... a date? At his home? Where there was a pretty good chance they'd end up alone together afterwards?
"Hey Kaiba! Wait up!" Still confused - but with his hope glued back together again - Joey ran after Kaiba.
@-->-->----
In the Shadow Realm, two dragons lay entwined - bathing in the afterglow of some very good sex.
"Do you suppose my master will work out that Seto's dearest wish is for him to be on top and take him hard and fast?" Red Eyes stretched out his wings and nuzzled his beloved.
Blue Eyes smiled. "If he does not, you can always appear in his dreams and suggest it to him."
"True." Red Eyes grinned. "How long do you think it will take them?" He tried not to look or sound too eager.
"Give them two hours. My master will at least try to be restrained enough to feed your master before molesting him." Blue Eyes smiled serenely.
Red Eyes smiled. "Perfect. That will give us just enough time for one more round of pleasuring before we go and watch them in the Dragon's Mirror." He began to move on his mate.
Seto and Joey had never had a chance.
There was nothing more determined than a pair of dragons who liked to watch.
