This is not what he wants, but this is what he wants.
He wants the hot, moist breath fanning his ear. He wants the arms encircling him firmly but gently as though he is something precious. He wants the sweat-salt passionate kisses and the slick slide of the sinewy body against his own. He wants the thrusts driving into his tightness as though powered by single-minded desperation.
Receptive as an empty lock into which a key is pushed, he is given what he wants.
If only, in the morning, he could get affectionate acknowledgment instead of a thin stack of crisp bills and an order to get out.
If only, in the night, he could voice the longing, pleading thought carved on the walls of his heart.
After consulting Yuugi, the only friend to whom Katsuya had divulged his situation with KaibaCorp’s CEO, the blond decided a handmade gift would be more meaningful for such an occasion. He patronized a crafts store, meticulously choosing the materials he would require to fashion his lover’s present.
All Katsuya’s spare time was devoted to slowly but steadily working on the gift. He only dropped his painstaking creation for his daytime job, sleep, and appointments with Kaiba.
The special day arrived on a weekend, leaving Katsuya free to add the finishing touches to the present before wrapping it prettily and jaunting to Kaiba’s mansion.
A grim-faced butler responded to the front doorbell and instructed Katsuya to wait in the foyer while he summoned the master of the household. The blond, with the neatly wrapped box grasped in his faintly sweating palms, took some time to notice the various abstract paintings adorning the walls of the vestibule, admiring the way sharp strokes of darkness contrasted with wider, rounder banners of brightness.
“What are you doing here? I didn’t call you,” a hard, familiar voice greeted him rudely.
Spinning around, Katsuya immediately said, “I know, but I wanted to stop by and wish you a happy birthday.” He offered forth the festive parcel with both hands, smiling genially.
Kaiba only eyed him with scorn and suspicion. Katsuya retreated a couple of steps and asked, “It is your birthday, right? I’m pretty sure I didn’t get the date wrong—”
“It’s hardly a present since my money purchased it,” Kaiba responded coldly.
Katsuya’s cheerful expression crumbled. His eyes filled with tears of sorrow for the rejection, but the words exiting his mouth were angry.
“No it didn’t!” he exclaimed. “I made it—for you! I thought you might be a little happy to receive a present, or at least appreciate that I remembered you on your birthday and spent a lot of time and effort making something for you.” He emitted a short, bitter laugh. “Excuse me for wasting both of our time.”
He turned to leave, but Kaiba’s derisive voice followed him. “Is that what you tell all your clients? That you made it just for them?”
So Kaiba really did believe the worst of Katsuya. Well, far be it from him to shatter the blue-eyed man’s illusions.
“Yes, that’s the line I feed all my clients. ‘I made it with lots of love just for you. I hope you wear it in good health. Many happy returns. I hope this isn’t the last birthday we spend together. I hope you’ll think sweet thoughts of me every time you put it on.’ Yeah, that’s what I tell them.” It was not even a lie.
“You’ll wag your tail for anyone that comes along, won’t you, mutt,” Kaiba said acidly, the double-entendre piercing Katsuya’s heart like a poison-tipped arrow.
“Happy birthday, dear Seto. Happy birthday to you,” Katsuya murmured brokenly, placing the gift upon a narrow glass-topped table situated against one wall of the foyer. He then left quickly, not wanting to witness Kaiba heartlessly discarding his present into the rubbish bin.
Once outside, he let the cool water slip from his aching eyes and shed tears soundlessly all the way home.
His hand trembled, but he managed to answer the phone. Before he could even issue a salutation, Kaiba’s voice ordered, “Come over tonight.”
“As you wish,” Katsuya whispered, but his caller had already hung up.
“I only came tonight to return this,” the shorter man informed Kaiba, holding out an envelope fat with money. “You’ll find it all there. I never spent any of it.”
The response he received was silence, accompanied by several blinks of sapphire eyes. Under other circumstances, Katsuya might have been amused to see the great Kaiba Seto speechless for once, but as it was, his heart was breaking.
“I’m ending our arrangement, Mr. Kaiba. Please don’t call me anymore. Goodnight.”
With that, he moved to leave, but a bruising grip seized his upper arm as he was forcibly turned to meet Kaiba’s hard gaze.
“What did you say?” the CEO growled.
“Did I stutter?” Katsuya snapped. “I’m not going to let you fuck me for money anymore. Now let go!”
“You think I’ll let you go?” Kaiba shouted, carelessly dropping the thick envelope so he could hold Katsuya in place with both hands and roughly shake the blond. “You’re even stupider than I originally thought if you believe I’ll let you end it and just walk away!”
“Get your hands off me!” Katsuya yelled, his heart beating wildly and his stomach clenching. When Kaiba’s grasp tightened even further Katsuya vociferated in agony, “You’re hurting me, you bastard! Let go!”
“Never,” Kaiba said, wrenching Katsuya forward and biting the blond’s lower lip hard enough to draw blood, earning another yowl of pain and a look of shocked awe from his victim.
“What the hell are you doing?” Katsuya barked, now wriggling in earnest to escape Kaiba’s unyielding hold on him.
“Marking you,” Kaiba explained in a low voice, hauling Katsuya around and slamming him against the wall, pinning him there with his taller, heavier body. “You have to learn who you belong to. You can end it with any of your other customers, but not with me, Katsuya! Not with Kaiba Seto!”
“Just find somebody else to warm your bed, you asshole!” Katsuya snarled, the metallic tang of blood filling his mouth. “You shouldn’t have any trouble.”
“That means you think I’m attractive,” Kaiba said, smirking against Katsuya’s throat before nipping at the thin skin, eliciting a gasp from the other man. “Well, that’s a start, at least.”
“What do you mean, ‘that’s a start’? Just what the hell are you playing at, Kaiba?” Katsuya demanded, trying to ignore his awakening arousal.
“You,” Kaiba told him, holding both of Katsuya’s wrists above his tousled golden head with one large hand while the other crept under Katsuya’s shirt at the rear and into the waistband of his pants. Squeezing one generous globe of flesh, Kaiba continued, “You being mine exclusively. I’ll pay whatever you ask, Katsuya.”
“Why are you— Kaiba, stop,” Katsuya whimpered as one long, slim finger slid into the crevice between his buttocks and gently prodded the puckered opening hidden therein.
“Not until you agree.” Kaiba suckled his earlobe and pushed the finger inside Katsuya, who tensed. “And if you don’t agree, I’ll just fuck you until you can’t walk.”
A second finger joined the first, curling and scissoring and teasing inside Katsuya’s hot channel. Despite the discomfort of being fingered dry, his ragged jeans were tight around his bulging erection, and Kaiba’s thigh pressing between his legs and rubbing his stiffness was not helping at all.
“Why me?” Katsuya inquired breathlessly, a yelp of startlement and pleasure escaping him when Kaiba’s fingers brushed a certain spot within him.
“Because you’re the one I want,” Kaiba answered, rocking his thigh more vigorously against the patent bump in the shorter man’s jeans. “Katsuya,” he rasped, his own passion nearing its peak as well, spurred on by his partner’s helpless writhing and mewling. “Give yourself wholly to me. Belong to me. Become mine and mine only,” he whispered, daring to introduce a third digit into Katsuya’s clenching passage.
Katsuya released a hoarse cry and stained the front of his pants with sticky wetness. Tears flooded out of his eyes and he leaned almost bonelessly against the wall as Kaiba’s fingers slipped out and the brunet man watched him like a hawk.
“Why didn’t you ever see?” Katsuya cried. “I already gave myself wholly to you! I already belong to you! I’m already yours and yours only! Why don’t you get it?”
Surprised, Kaiba unclasped his hand from around Katsuya’s crossed wrists and looked on wordlessly as the blond slid down the wall to the floor. Blinking, he said, “What do you mean?”
Katsuya’s chuckle was rueful, unhappy. “I mean that I’m not a prostitute, Kaiba! I never have been. I’m an elementary school teacher, for crying out loud. The pay isn’t much, but it’s not so little that I’d need to sell myself to get by.”
Kaiba dropped into a crouch so he was at Katsuya’s level and could bore into tearful brown eyes with his own icy gaze. “Explain yourself,” he commanded, his pulse roaring in his ears like ocean waves.
“They call you a genius, but you’re so damn stupid,” Katsuya sniffled. “I came to you like that because I thought I couldn’t be with you any other way. You treated me like dirt in school, but at some point that stopped mattering. I fell in love with you a long time ago, and my feelings have never changed. But how could I just walk up to you and say that? I figured you’d just laugh in my face, so I sold myself to you under false pretenses and I guess I hoped my body would tell you what I never could.”
“You’re in love with me?” Kaiba’s voice was barely audible, and Katsuya glanced up to see the deep blue eyes very wide, the CEO’s lean frame frozen.
“What, do I have to spell it out for you?” Katsuya sneered weakly.
Kaiba shook his head. “No, I understand.” He straightened himself up before extending a hand down to help Katsuya stand as well, pleased when the blond accepted the offer. He immediately pulled the smaller man into a warm embrace, burying his face in thick yellow locks and breathing deeply the scent of the one who loved him.
“Kaiba—?” Katsuya’s tone clearly illustrated his fear and uncertainty, but also lingering hope.
“You should really call me Seto if we’re going to be together,” Kaiba informed him.
“Be together?” Katsuya echoed in wonder.
“For the rest of our lives, yes,” Kaiba clarified.
Katsuya started weeping in earnest against Kaiba’s shoulder.
