Explanations:

Well … I read “Frustrations” by Usagi-Atemu-Tom and I think somewhere she mentioned that Yugi is actually the transliteration or something of the original name Yuugi and the change of the name Jonouchi into Joey Wheeler … and I have to admit I don’t like that change either because you can’t just chance the name of a person! It wouldn’t be the same person anymore because … well … the meaning of the name would be an entirely different than originally meant. I stick with the usual names either.

Mutou Yuugi:

Mutou Yuugi

Atemu Hamadi Fateh:

I still have not figured out if that was his name in Ancient Kemet or if it was Atem. However, I took this name for him in modern times because it is just referred to the god not the name itself. All three are Egyptian names.

Atemu = “Mystical great god of Annu”

Hamadi = “Praised”

Fateh = “Conqueror”.

Atem:

This name is actually synonymous for Ra or Amun himself and because of this I think only a pharaoh is allowed to carry it. Meaning, well it is the spirit of the Sennen Puzzle

Nagazaki Ryou:

I needed the name Bakura for … well yes Bakura himself so I can’t let Ryou have it because they are different persons here not incarnations.

Bakura Kemnebi Gohiji:

Bakura is a Half-Egyptian and that’s why he carries the Japanese name with an Egyptian middle- and family name.

Bakura (Japanese) = “Ripefruit”

Kemnebi (Egyptian) = “Black panther”

Gohiji (Egyptian) = “Hunter”

Akifa:

I read this name somewhere and I really don’t know where anymore but I liked the name and that is why the spirit of the Sennen Ring has this name. And beside, I despise the thought of the name Bakura in Ancient Kemet when it is Japanese.

Ishtar Ishizu:

She stays herself with her past as Isis

Ishtar Malik:

He stays himself too, he’s the “Light-one”

Ishtar Marik:

He is the dark part of Malik and born out of his hatred but somehow ended up with his own body.

Mutou Solomon:

Yuugi’s grandfather, who runs the game shop and discovered the Sennen Puzzle. Yuugi refers to him as Jii-chan even if I’m not fond of mixing languages that much. But it sounds better as when he would cry out “grandfather!” I think.

Siamun Muran:

He is the past form of Yuugi’s grandfather and I couldn’t believe that his name actually is Egyptian … at least his given name.

Siamun (Egyptian) = son of Amun

Muran (English) = decendent of the great one

Chapter 1

A/N: I was so ashamed. After I erased this fan fiction from my account I tried to read it myself and was so ashamed. Even I as the author had problems to understand what I actually wanted to say. Of course, I had no other choice than to rewrite it. I chanced most of the plot and I hopefully did a better job than before.

But sadly I was clever enough, and I hope everyone hears the sarcasm in this, to not write down my notes and my new plot and after about a year and a half of absence I wanted to start anew only to discover that I had no clue what the story was about. And that meant I had to come up with a new plot and do all the research again. It really was hard work, you would not believe it.

There was always something that drew them towards Egypt, like a permanent ache in their hearts. It was like a cry that wished they would be there and find something. These cries were loudest at night; the wind would tell them of ancient times, of pieces that must be found and put together.

Sometimes the voice of the wind was so strong that it hurt their hearts. It left them screaming in anguish as they wished for the ache to stop.

With the age of sixteen, their greatest and most painful wish came true. Their first step on this land at the airport was accompanied by great relief and soft happiness.

The airport was the first place they met. Both were shy at first and stumbled over their words, but they knew that there were a few things that they had in common: both of them loved Egypt but did not really know why; both could take care of themselves although one was messier than the other. Their natures were the same, both soft and pure. At first eye contact, they knew that they would be friends forever.

National Museum, Cairo, Egypt

They had discovered new ruins and had send message for immediate knowledge, help was needed for expose and study.

But for the first two days those shy boys had not met again only on their third day alone they had suddenly stumbled across each other. The decision to spend some time in each others company had been made quickly.

At this moment, they were sitting on a bench near the mummy of an ancient pharaoh. The boys watched the other museum-goers walk by, letting their feet dangle off the ground.

“Do you think they will take us up with them to this excavation?” the white-haired boy asked absently, his soft emerald eyes shining happily. He was small for his age, with a rather feminine build, to his disappointment.

“I sure hope so. I want to go there and take a look for myself.” the tri-colour haired teen answered thoughtfully. Also small for his age, Yuugi was just a bit shorter than his companion, bright amethyst eyes shining determinately. He as well had a soft look and a feminine build, causing him and his companion to be constantly mistaken for twelve or thirteen year-old boys.

Ryou was silent for a while, searching briefly in the other’s eyes.

“Why?” he asked softly, a hint of uneasiness in his voice. Yuugi looked up to watch some people walk by, keeping his silence. He wondered if he could tell Ryou his secret.

“I want to go there because. . . I don’t know. . . I can’t explain it very well. It’s just that. . . I don’t know . . . it’s like something wants me to be there.” he spoke hesitantly, trying to find the right words. He searched the eyes of his friend, trying to figure out if Ryou understood his mumbling.

After a moment’s hesitation, the white haired teen smiled softly. “I know what you mean. It’s why I’m here in the first place.”

“Huh?” Yuugi blinked, and then smiled. “Do tell!”

Ryou looked shyly at his friend, then to his feet. “You said it’s like something wants you to go to this excavation. You can say it’s just like that. I mean, ever since I can remember, there was something or someone out here that called to me. Like a whisper in the wind, it had a voice that I can hear that keeps trying to pull me here.”

He was quiet for a while, as if thinking over what he was going to say next. “Well. . . I had always known that I wanted to go to Egypt. Nowhere else, just Egypt. When I couldn’t sleep I would stood by the window and listen to the soft sound that was blowing with the wind. It seemed to go straight to my heart, and it still does now. My heart hurt because I was so far away from where I felt like I should have been.”

At this Yuugi’s heart ached to tell this gentle boy that he understood completely, his eyes began to water slightly.

“Me too.” he had said the words so softly that his friend had to lean in to catch them. Curiously, Ryou turned his head and smiled gently at Yuugi. “Do tell.” he stated.

The tri-coloured teen laughed softly and shook his head. “It is just like you said; someone or something wants me here. I don’t know why but when I’m alone, I listen to this voice in the wind that tells me that I have to come here. The voice sounds so sad and hurt. Like you said, it goes straight to my heart. It makes me heartbroken.”

After a short silence, Yuugi let out an empty laugh. “Listen to me, I sound like I’m crazy.” He sighed softly and shook his head again.

“No it doesn’t! Like I said before, I have heard the voice too. Do you think I’m crazy?”

“No, no you’re not. But it feels embarrassing to talk about it.” Yuugi blinked and looked over at his new friend. He was not sure if he could say any more, and was afraid that he would lose his him out of stupidity.

The white emerald eyed teen smiled softly and pushed a strand of hair away from his face. “It always feels embarrassing when you tell your greatest secret to anyone else. But just answer me one thing; do you believe in fate?”

The pointy-haired teen looked up suddenly. “Huh? I don’t understand.”

Ryou offered another soft smile and closed his eyes. “Fate or destiny.”

“In what connection?”

“Actions and people. Do you think it is predestined to meet certain people? Or that you make a choice without thinking of it because you already know. Do you believe in that?”

Yuugi was silent for a long time. He thought about what his companion had said and tried to remember certain situations of his life. When he looked up he was more confused than ever. “I’m not sure.” his voice was barley noticeable.

Ryou smiled in understanding. “I do believe that it is predestined that I meet certain people, like you. I do believe that there is a good reason why I am here. When it feels like I have to be here than I am willing to believe that there is something to do. To meet other people who would be important to me or my life.” Ryou then stopped, he could see that Yuugi was unsure and wanted to think about it. He decided that he would give him that time. Maybe he could try and distract the small teen a bit.

“Well I do believe it was important to me to meet you; after all, you are Japanese, and my dad and I were moving there. After this vacation I have to go to a completely new school, and I think that you’ll be able to help me a little in that case.” he smiled softly and was glad to see that Yuugi was too surprised about what he had just said to even be thinking about their previous conversation.

“Do you know what city you moved to?” Yuugi asked, stunned.

“My dad said it’s called Domino or something like that. I’m not really sure because I’m still trying to learn this language; the pronunciation is very difficult for me.” the white haired teen said, and Yuugi could see the concentrated look in his emerald eyes.

“That’s great!” he cried, beaming at his friend, “I’m from Domino! I could show you around and you could meet my friends!”

Ryou smiled brightly, the joy and excitement expressed by Yuugi was rubbing off on him. He mentally thanked God or fate or whoever was out there for letting him meet this soft person who was so alike him in his nature.

Yuugi opened his mouth and tried to say that they would probably go to the same school as well when his stomach growled. He looked at his friend sheepishly and rubbed his belly. The white haired teen laughed delighted and stood up.

“I see it is time to eat a bit. I think there was a Pizza Hut out there a bit, but I’m not sure. We will have to take a look.”

Yuugi stood up laughing and they made their way out into the heated capitol of Egypt.

People hurried about them, while others walked slowly. It was too hot to run, and they had time to get to wherever they were going anyway. Both youth looked around in wonder. Sure, they had seen the streets already but this city fascinated them all over again. The sun shone on all the buildings, changing their colour into a powerful orange. Shadows moved gently in hidden crevices as they tried to donate some shade to who ever needed it.

They talked a bit about the beauty of the landscape, or at least what they had seen already, and laughed softly over Ryou’s mistakes while Yuugi tried to teach the albino in his native language.

A soft humming could be heard, but no one seemed to notice it. The ground droned softly, trying to encourage them further, to not stop at their intended destination. But this too seemed to be ignored.

Both youth, who should have been aware of this humming were too engrossed in their talk to notice, so the humming died down and hoped that next time they would listen to it.

Solomon Mutou stepped into the hotel room he shared with his grandson. He was tired, and feared that he had been in the sun for too long; he did feel slightly dizzy. It had been a long and hard ride with an Egyptian taxi driver and he felt all his bones knack and ache because of his riding style. He only wanted to go to bed.

Unfortunately though, Yuugi seemed to have other plans.

“Jii-chan? Are you alright?”

“Of course. My head is spinning a bit but it’s nothing a good night’s sleep couldn’t cure.” Solomon mumbled softly and stepped into the shower. The warm water helped him to immediately relax his muscles, and it felt so good to lose all of that dust from the desert.

Yuugi waited patiently until his grandfather was in his bed. “Jii-chan? Do you think that Ryou and I could accompany you when you go out into the desert again? We would like to see what you have found already and maybe we could even help a bit.”

Yuugi hoped he had chosen the right words that it really sounded like he was only trying to help his grandfather. Solomon was silent for a long time. He did not know if it was a good idea to have these kids with him. Besides, he was not sure what Ryou’s father would say to that. He already knew that these two were not that close and that the boy was alone most of the time. But he seemed to be very nice and sensible. He was sure that one would not make any trouble on purpose, so when they would come along with them that should not be a problem.

He sighed exhaustedly and looked at his grandson, trying to see through Yuugi’s eyes if the boy was really telling the truth. Finally he nodded his head and rubbed tiredly over his face. “But only if you two stay out of trouble and don’t wander around. You could lose your way and we would never see you two again. I’m not sure if Ryou’s dad would appreciate it if I lost his son in the desert.”

“No, we wouldn’t do anything to cause problems, I swear!” Yuugi tried to soothe his grandfather’s worries. “Thank you so much!” he cried happily and then went silent.

Now he would be able to see if this ache in his heart would stop. Now he could see if there was actually something that must be found or someone who must be met.

“Good night Jii-chan.” Yuugi whispered softly to not disturb his grandfather in his rest and closed his eyes too. Sleep found him fast and he dreamed peacefully of the desert’s heat and pyramids in the Egyptian sand while a soft soothing chime could be heard in the night’s air.
