Fairly revamped version of this first chapter, hopefully a little less OOC Kaiba and better overall. -----@@@@~~~@@@@----- Seto Kaiba was walking out of school, although class had been over for a bit, he had been held back by a teacher who was unwilling to accept a late assignment. The principal had told the teacher to give some grace to the student who was his own CEO, but the teacher refused to listen, thus had been lecturing Kaiba for the last 30 minutes about making sure the next assignment was in on time. Kaiba could hardly agree to the threat, but sat there pretending to listen as the teacher rambled on. Kaiba had almost made it to freedom when he heard some crying from nearby. It wasn’t his problem so he chose to ignore it and continue walking, though as he got closer to the front doors it seemed to be getting louder. He walked just a little bit further, until he noticed Jounouchi, sitting on the ground hidden behind some lockers. The boy looked terrible, disheveled, and crying nonetheless. Kaiba stopped for a moment wondering if his mind was playing tricks on him, he could not believe that he would ever see Jou crying, let alone like this. Not that he cared of course, but his eyes betrayed him as he couldn’t stop staring. Jou looked up at Kaiba, What the fuck do you want,” He spat out. Kaiba stayed silent noticing the bloodshot eyes, leading him to believe that Jou had been sitting there crying for quite a while. “Nothing,” Kaiba murmured, as he whipped his focus back forward. Jou’s face changed into an evil smile, he was almost glad that it was Kaiba here in front of him. There was something about how his day had gone that made him crave a good fight, and no fights were more worth it than those with Kaiba. “You gonna stand there and tell me how pathetic it is to see a mutt like me crying,” Jou said putting together his best Kaiba like talk. Kaiba glanced at the boy our of the corner of his eyes avoiding turning his head. Sure it was something he might say on any other day, but he wasn’t one for beating up someone who was already crying, unless is was good for business. Jou wound himself up within his own head, mimicking Kaiba’s normal put down tendencies through his thoughts. Jou was realistically insulting himself, but putting Kaiba’s face to it, which would only lead to more trouble. Jou cranked back his arm as he slung it forward ready to punch Kaiba in the face. Kaiba dodged it, but caught Jou by the wrist. So, Jou wound back his other fist hoping that it would land this time. The same thing just repeated itself, Kaiba dodged before grabbing Jou’s wrist. The clang of Kaiba’s briefcase falling to the floor echoed in the halls as they stared at each other. Kaiba held Jou for a second before spinning the shorter boy around, such that Kaiba was holding Jou with Jou’s back to his chest. Kaiba’s arms were around Jou still holding onto the wrists as leverage against Jou. It would look like a lovers embrace to most passerby’s, but it was one way to not get a fist to the face. “You need to calm down, I really don’t think it’s me you’re after,” Kaiba explained simply expecting that the cease of movement would snap Jou out of it. “You know how much I enjoy our little trists, but it’s much more fun when I’m actually the cause of it.” Jou huffed in Kaiba’s arms, he couldn’t stand this. Without thinking for a second Jou growled before he opened his mouth and bit down on Kaiba’s arm as hard as he could. Jou held on until he felt Kaiba let go of him completely, flinging Jou away from himself. Kaiba glared at Jou, who stood there glaring back. The moment held for just a bit longer, before Jou collapsed to the ground and started crying again. Kaiba looked at Jou again, shaking his head before picking up his briefcase that had fallen. Kaiba straightened himself up, and began walking to the exit once more. He had gotten all the way to the door, hearing the sobs of the other boy. Kaiba stopped and turned around finding his way back to Jou. Kaiba held out a hand to Jou, who scoffed at the proposal. “You sure as hell know that this doesn’t happen very often, so just take the offer,” Kaiba said with all of his will not to just walk away. Jou took a few deep breaths before finally taking the hand. As Kaiba lead him out of the school, Jou attempted to wipe all the tears from his face. They walked outside to Kaiba’s car that was waiting for him. The butler stood at the door waiting for him, ready as always to open the door at the drop of a pin. Kaiba breaking habit instead shoed the man away, opening the door for Jou himself and climbed in after, shutting the door behind himself. The back seat area, as per usual in all of Kaiba’s vehicles, was closed off from the front allowing no explanation needed of the additional rider. As the car picked up momentum, the boys sat silently staring out separate windows. Jou was the first to talk, or more mumble as it was, “Sorry.” It wasn’t much, but he was sure Kaiba knew exactly what it was for. Kaiba heard the apology, but didn’t exactly acknowledge the other. He was still questioning himself as to why he had come back for the other boy any how. “So what was that all about?” He eventually questioned, curiosity getting the better of him. Kaiba looked over to Jou, noticing a pained expression cross his face before he began to talk. “Just something stupid… Don’t even understand why it got to me so badly.” He said still looking out the tinted window. Jou sat there as he felt Kaiba’s glare, pierce through his head. Sure Jou was a master of stare offs, and most anything close to the matter, but he knew this was one he wasn’t going to be able to avoid. “I got dumped, ok?” He said defiantly. Kaiba looked at Jou, “That’s it,” he asked, knowing there was no way this fighting personality, would let a simple break up destroy him. Jou wished he could turn even further away from Kaiba, but it was impossible in this car. “Ok… Cheated on, then dumped.” Kaiba knew it was closer, but not everything. “Well, she definitely wasn’t worth getting this worked up over.” Kaiba said, looking more carefully at Jou, realizing that there was another secret hiding. “It wasn’t a girl was it?” Kaiba noted, as Jou’s face flushed of embarrassment. Jou knew it wasn’t something to be ashamed of, but there was something about your so called rival knowing something that intimate. “Who…” Kaiba asked, he knew all of the friends that Jou had, but the puzzle pieces weren’t all fitting together in his head, and he craved the complete story. “Honda,” Jou said almost inaudibly, “We’ve been together for a while, and most people just didn’t really notice when best friend went to something else.” Jou mumbled on as Kaiba pieced it all together in his head. “I guess maybe that’s why it hurt so much, like being told by your best friend, you aren’t friends anymore… Or maybe it was when Otogi came running in, and started god knows what with him.” The events played in Jou’s head, as it pained him to watch on. The story just started spilling out from Jou’s mouth without even realizing who he was talking to anymore. “Honda, just kinda said ‘We’re through’ and before I could even ask what the hell was going on, Otogi comes running through the door, running to Honda to kiss him. They wound up on the floor making out, and Otogi’s hands were wandering down, and down. I had to run out before I threw up.” Jou took a deep breath before trying to swallow. Nothing would make that moment able to bare, but it had been such a short time since it’d happened that it was still taking Jou time to recover. It was like watching your significant other cheat on you right in front of your face. Well that’s pretty much what it was, but… Honda had at least taken the time to break up with him first, not that it made it any better. It took Kaiba a minute to process it all, there was no way he could imagine this all in his mind. Then again he couldn’t even picture Jou with Honda in the first place, Jou was such a fighter he never really expected that he was gay. “Well, I guess that everything makes a bit more sense now.” Kaiba said. It wasn’t anything special, but it let Jou know Kaiba had actually listened. Jou just shook his head, he knew it didn’t play out in most peoples heads, but it had happened regardless. They sat in silence as the car slowed to a steady stop. Kaiba got out of the car beckoning Jou to follow him. They had arrived at Kaiba Corp. Kaiba lead Jou, through the front area, back to the private elevator that only went to his office. Once on the top floor, Jou was lightly introduced to the secretaries in the waiting area, before being beckoned to following Kaiba into his office. Jou was amazed at the office that was almost like it’s own apartment. As they walked in there was a small personal meeting area with a nice couch, a few comfy looking chairs and a elongated coffee table. While there were no walls to separate the room, there was an obvious distinction from this area, over to the area in which Jou was sure Kaiba spent most of his time. The glass window from floor to ceiling was the backdrop to Kaiba’s office. There was one large desk, with the most powerful looking rolling office chair sitting behind it. If he had ventured further into the office Jou would have found himself in the private board room or the bathroom that he could see from where he stood. “Like it?” Kaiba questioned, smirking at the obvious amazement on Jou’s face. “Yeah,” Jou said sheepishly. He rubbed his hands nervously, standing just inside the doorway as Kaiba walked over to his desk, immediately getting to work. The head secretary pushed him a little further into the room as she closed the door for Mr. Kaiba. “So… why’d you bring me here?” Jou asked still unsure of where he should go. “You’re welcome to sit down,” Kaiba said motioning to the couch. He looked at the overly cautious Jou, with a questioning glance. Jou sat down, but was still fidgeting as he took up as little amount of room on the couch as he could. He sat on the very edge of the seat ready to bolt at any second. Sure he would fight Kaiba at school anytime, but there was something about actually being in Kaiba’s office that made him more afraid that he’d break something and be forever indebted to Kaiba. Kaiba looked up from his work, noticing Jou sitting quieter than ever. Kaiba rolled his eyes before forcing himself up from his work to talk to Jou. He sat down on the coffee table, looking Jou straight in the face. “Don’t be so nervous.” Kaiba started simply, “I was just thinking that you would like a place to rest after what happened earlier. And not that you necessarily like it, but I have already see you cry, so you wont have to worry about that?” Kaiba tried to explain, although not really doing a good job. “Just let me do my work,” He growled trying to gain his composure as he stood up to go back to his desk, very agitated. Jou smiled, holding back a laugh “Thanks,” He said, understanding that for once there was something in Kaiba allowing for some kindness to permeate. Kaiba watched from the corner of his eye as Jou finally relaxed enough to lay down on the couch, and even fall asleep. Kaiba continued upon his work, engrossed wholly as a few hours passed. He eventually got up to take a break, walking to the door to ask his secretary for a cup of coffee. Knowing his schedule all too well, she was already there waiting for him coffee in hand. Kaiba smiled as he took the warm cup from her, thanking her for taking care of him. Kaiba took his coffee back to one of the chairs sitting near Jou. He watched the other sleep, Kaiba noticed Jou moved a lot in his sleep. Jou currently had a leg hanging over the edge of the couch, as he laid on his stomach, and hair messed up, more than usual. “Please… no,” Jou mumbled in his sleep, his face was twisting in pain. Kaiba could only guess that Jou was still thinking about what had happened earlier, even in his dreams. Kaiba got up from his seat as he walked over to the sleeping Jou. He took his hand, that wasn’t holding the coffee, and went to smooth out Jou’s hair a little. It was something he used to do for Mokuba when his little brother couldn’t sleep at night, and there was something about the gesture that had always helped. Jou’s face softened, almost to a point where he went back to smiling like his usual self. Kaiba, although not fond of the over zealous and happy Jou, he knew it was better than the depressed one he’d encountered earlier. Suddenly Jou shot awake, as his hand went flying knocking Kaiba’s coffee cup onto Kaiba. Kaiba winced as the hot liquid soaked through his shirt. Jou looked wide-eyed as Kaiba walked quickly to the attached bathroom, Jou following quietly. Kaiba pulled off the shirt that he was wearing to soak it in the sink. Jou watched the other clean the shirt silently of the coffee stains, as he quickly grabbed a towel soaking it in water as well. Jou looked at Kaiba who had finished cleaning the shirt, and was standing there arms crossed over his chest. “….sorry,” Jou said almost pathetically, as he slid Kaiba’s arms to his side. Jou took the wet cloth that he had in his hand as he softly dabbed red marks on Kaiba’s chest. The redness softened as Jou kept the cool towel on the marks. Kaiba sighed, “It’s ok,” He rung out the shirt, as well as pat it dry with a towel before leaving it hung up to finish drying. Jou buried his face in his hands as he found his way back to the couch, curling up in despair. Kaiba slowly followed Jou, back out into the main section of his office. “Don’t worry so much,” Kaiba said as he ruffled Jou’s hair, hoping it’d be enough to snap him back. Jou jumped up, standing up next to Kaiba, “Wait, what was that?” He asked, confused. “Nothing,” Kaiba said as he pushed Jou back to the couch. He walked away, heading back to his desk. He noticed that Jou was still sitting there confused. “Just go back to sleep,” Kaiba sighed out as he began sorting through some of the paperwork in front of him. Jou rubbed his hands nervously, and bit his lip as he thought about it for a second. Eventually he gave in laying down to rest again. Kaiba scoffed after he noticed Jou was asleep once again. ‘Such a rash person,’ Kaiba thought as he went back to work. Kaiba was able to finished all the work he had on his desk before it was time to leave. He went to put his shirt back on before packing up his school bag with a few papers he felt he needed to take home. Kaiba slung the bag onto his shoulder before walking over to Jou, still asleep on the couch. He picked up the sleeping boy, before heading out of the office. His secretary held the door open as he said good night to her. Kaiba walked over to the elevator ringing the button and waited for it to arrive. Jou felt the gradual sense of walking, slowly waking him up. He was confused, but moved around in the arms that were carrying him. “If you don’t stop moving I will drop you.” Kaiba’s self assured voice said. Jou looked up to notice that he was being carried in Kaiba’s arms going down in the elevator. Jou began moving around in Kaiba’s arms unsure how he felt in the situation. “I said I’d drop you if you kept moving,” Kaiba said annoyed as he dropped his hands. Jou instantly grabbed onto Kaiba’s neck as his legs fell down, almost able to tiptoe to the floor. Kaiba looked at Jou attached to him, Jou looked terrified, eyes closed as he hid in Kaiba’s collar bone. “I think you’ll be ok,” Kaiba said as he reached back to pull Jou’s arms away from him. Kaiba eased Jou to stand stable on the floor, as Jou blushed profusely. Jou turned away from Kaiba, hoping his blush would die down, Kaiba even pretended not to notice. The elevator reached the bottom floor as Kaiba lead Jou out of the building to his car waiting for them. “Would you like to join Mokuba and I for dinner?” Kaiba asked Jou as they got in the car. “You’re going to offer that to me after everything I’ve messed up today?” Jou ask hardly believing Kaiba anymore. “Stop questioning me and just take the offer,” Kaiba growled out. “Dinner would be nice,” Jou said, nodding his head. The two sat in silence as the driver headed to the Kaiba home. “So, afraid of heights?” Kaiba asked, as he looked straight ahead. Jou turned his head to look at Kaiba, “Huh?” he questioned, suddenly realizing why Kaiba was asking, “Ohh, not exactly… more like afraid of falling,” mumbled out. Kaiba processed the information nodding softly. “You’re gonna use that against me now,” Jou asked skeptically as he looked at Kaiba. Kaiba kept his composure looking forward, “I wasn’t planning on it. Although I think I could if I need to,” He said as he started grinning. “Well that’s not very nice,” Jou said as he elbowed Kaiba jokingly, “Not that I really expect you to be nice… more ruthless,” Jou thought for a moment, “Damn, I shouldn’t let you in on so many of my secrets.” Jou teased, looked at Kaiba slyly noticing the almost laugh. The car pulled up to the house, as the boys got out and headed into the house. “Hi Big Brother!” Mokuba said as he came running to the door giving Kaiba a hug. Kaiba smiled as he hugged Mokuba. Mokuba stepped back, noticing the additional person in the doorway. “Jou! Hi,” Mokuba said smiling. “I invited him for dinner, greet our guest properly,” Kaiba said as he started heading to the dinning room. “Welcome to out home,” Mokuba said politely to Jou before switching back to his excitement, “How have you been, Jou?” “Good, for the most part,” he said nervously rubbing his arm, but smiling just the same. Jou followed the brothers further into the house he’d only been in once before. Although that wasn’t the greatest memory, he still knew about where they were going. They sat down at the table, served immediately by the kitchen staff waiting on their every moves. It wasn’t something Jou would ever be used to, but he was sure that the Kaiba brothers were more than used to it by now. “Did you do all of your homework, Mokuba?” Kaiba asked as he cut the food on his dish. Mokuba quickly swallowed the food in his mouth before answering his brother. “Of course, too easy,” Mokuba replied as he shoved another piece of food into his mouth. “Well I guess we can do something more interesting tonight then.” Kaiba said glancing between his brother and Jou. “Oooh, what?” Mokuba asked a little too excitedly, having to catch himself from talking with food in his mouth. “That’ll just have to be a surprise, wont it” Kaiba said purposefully teasing his brother. Jou watched the sibling relationship in the workings, remembering that there was one side of Kaiba that he truly liked. Both being older brothers connected the two of them, even if only rarely. As the dinner continued the conversation lulled, but it wasn’t long until everyone at the table was finished with their food, vegetables included as enforced upon Mokuba and Jou by Kaiba. After dinner the three spent the evening watching a movie all together. Kaiba and Jou sat at the two corners of the three-seater couch, with Mokuba in between, leaning on his bother watching the screen intently. By the end Mokuba had fallen asleep, and it was the rare smile on Kaiba’s face to tell anyone how much he enjoyed this time with his brother. Kaiba picked up his younger brother, “I’m going to take him to his room, do you want to follow or just wait here?” He asked quietly of Jou. “Follow I guess,” He said as he got up from the couch. They walked up the stairs and down the hall just a bit before Kaiba stopped in front of a door. Jou assuming it was Mokuba’s opening the door allowing Kaiba to enter first. Kaiba walked in heading to the bed to tuck Mokuba in, as Jou watched from the doorway. He smiled, it always made him happy to see other siblings together, even though he was away from his own. Kaiba kissed Mokuba softly on the forehead before he walked out with Jou following still. “It’s kind of late,” Kaiba said as he stopped in the hallway, “I can have someone take you home, or you could stay here in a guest room,” He offered. “You’re being pretty nice to me today,” Jou said as he laughed it off. “Yeah, I guess I am, does that mean you would like to stay?” Kaiba asked again. “Well I was told earlier to just take the offers, so.. Yeah I will,” Jou smiled, “Thanks.” Kaiba continued walking down the hallway, back towards the stairs. He turned, opening the last door to the right near the stairs, “You can stay here, the restroom is there,” He said pointing through the doorway. “I can get you a set of pajamas, although they might be a little big.” He said as he walked across the hallway to his own room. Jou looked into the room, standing in the doorway until Kaiba came back. Walking back across to the guest room, Kaiba handed off the pajama’s to Jou. Kaiba stepped into the room mentioning one last thing, “If you want to put the clothes that you’re wearing here then the maid can get it clean by the morning.” He said noting the top of a dresser near the door. “Thank you for everything, Kaiba” Jou said, “And I really mean it.” He smiled and watched Kaiba return to his own room. Jou softly closed the door, he then changed clothes and went to bed, hoping that he could sleep with out the horrible dreams this time. Kaiba woke up in the middle of the night, he tried to go back to sleep, but couldn’t. Getting up to grab a glass of water from the kitchen he left his bed and found his way to the door. He walked out into the hallway and towards the stairs, noticing some strange noise, but decided to ignore it. After retrieving his water, Kaiba headed back up the stairs to his room. As he got closer he noticed the noise again, it was something that he recognized, new but somehow familiar. He realized what it was as he walked up to the guest room door, listening as the noise got louder. It was Jou crying again. He couldn’t help it, but the idea of Jou crying really shocked Kaiba. Kaiba sighed, as he opened the door poking his head in. Jou noticed him instantly trying to stop himself as to not worry Kaiba, but he didn’t succeed. Kaiba walked into the room sitting next to Jou on the bed. They stayed silent for a bit except for the reminiscent breaths from Jou, as he recovered from crying. Tears were still falling down his face, although the sobs had stopped. Kaiba offered his water to Jou, almost as a peace offering, which Jou gladly accepted. “It wont just stop playing in my head,” Jou said offering up his reasoning. “I know it’s hard, but it’s not worth all this, I can promise that,” Kaiba said as he grabbed the water glass back. He placed it on the night stand next to him and pulled Jou up to his shoulder. Kaiba wrapped one arm around Jou’s back to give him a bit of a hug. “You’re right, it’s not worth it, but I can’t stop.” Jou said as he rested his head on Kaiba’s shoulder. Jou sighed as he tried to stop crying. He slowly sunk lower until his head rested upon Kaiba’s chest. “What are you doing,” Kaiba questioned as Jou snuggled into his clothed chest. “Just listening to your heart,” Jou said easily, “It’s a nice steady beat,” He yawned and closed his eyes, slowly drifting to sleep. Kaiba scoffed lightly, as he ran his fingers through Jou’s hair, and softly rubbed circles in his back, “Silly dog,” He murmured before he allowed himself to sleep as well. Kaiba woke up the next morning surprised to see that Jou was still sleeping on his chest. After seeing Jou toss and turn in his office, Kaiba hadn’t expected to see Jou in the same position they’d fallen asleep in. Kaiba started rubbing Jou’s back, “Hey Mutt, time to wake up,” he said, although with none of usual intonations. “Mmmm,” Jou growled out, still unmoving. Kaiba rolled his eyes, as he moved regardless of Jou still sleeping. As Kaiba sat up in the bed, Jou just rolled the opposite direction and curled under the sheets. Kaiba got up from the bed, leaving Jou to be. He left the room walking across the hallway to his own room. He was still groggy, and had no idea what time it was, but got ready for school regardless. After his shower Kaiba dressed himself in his uniform pants and an undershirt. Kaiba eventually looked at the clock, just about the time his alarm started going off. He turned it off quickly before continuing his routine. Kaiba decided to check on Jou to see if he’d woken up or stayed curled in the bed, and he was highly expecting the latter. He lightly knocked on the door, and entered regardless of not getting a response. Kaiba looked at the bed as he noticed Jou was not only wrapped up in the covers, but was also hiding under his pillow. He walked over to the sleeping figure, and lightly shook his shoulder. “Come on Jou, you should wake up.” He said, getting no response. Kaiba shook Jou harder hoping it might wake the other. He had no success, Kaiba was ready to pour cold water on the other boy, but resisted in the end. “Mutt, wake up!” Kaiba barked, which somehow succeeded in waking Jou, who now seemed ready for a fight. Kaiba tried to keep a straight face as he thought about, how even through sleep Jou would respond to him arguing with the boy. “What the hell Kaiba?” Jou asked as he got himself off the bed realizing it was morning. “You didn’t have to yell at me to wake me up,” “It worked,” Kaiba said, not sure that Jou realized how heavily he slept. “Take a shower and then come downstairs, there should be food ready in a few minutes.” Kaiba said as he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. Jou sighed as he got up, ran through the shower, and got himself dressed. When he was done he headed downstairs to the dinning room. The food wasn’t quite ready so Jou stood in the kitchen talking to the cook as he was allowed to make himself lunch if he felt like it. Jou followed the food out into the dinning room where Kaiba was sitting reading the newspaper. Jou sat next to him where he had been placed the night before and shoveled some of the food onto his plate. Kaiba and Jou sat in silence until Mokuba came running into the room to eat with them. “Morning!” He said excitedly as he sat down. “Morning,” Jou and Kaiba mumbled almost in unison. They all sat eating for a short bit, as Mokuba kept focusing between Jou and Kaiba. “So what were you doing sleeping in the guest room with Jou?” Mokuba asked slyly. “Mokuba!” Kaiba said shocked that his younger brother would hint at something so obscene. “What? I woke up in the middle of the night and went looking for you. I didn’t even know Jou had stayed over until I found you guys in the guest room sleeping.” Mokuba said truthfully as he continued to eat. “It was late, Jou stayed the night for his own safety” Kaiba explained briskly. The trio sat in silence, as Jou slowly stopped eating. He was remembering how his break-up had been playing in his head last night and Kaiba had come to stop him from crying. “You really wanna know what happened Mokuba?” Jou asked seriously as he stared, poking at the uneaten food in front of him. “It might be nice, not to be treated like I don’t already know.” Mokuba said as he sat back in his chair, crossing his arms. Jou looked at Mokuba skeptically, “I got dumped yesterday,” He said, watching as Mokuba processed the information, “And your brother was kind enough to bring me here to help me get my mind off of it. So last night when I couldn’t sleep because of it, he came to my room and we talked until we fell asleep.” Jou explained as a embarrassed blush came across Mokuba’s face. “Ohh, I’m sorry Jou,” Mokuba said as he tried to stay silent. “It’s ok, Mokuba. Just don’t always assume that you know what’s going on.” Jou said as he softly smiled, “You and your brother may be pretty smart, but you both tend to jump to conclusions,” Jou jeered, as his smile grew to be more normal of him. “Jou, are you ready to go?” Kaiba asked ignoring the comments. “Almost, I’ll be right back. My bag is upstairs,” he said as he ran out of the room. Within a few seconds Jou was back in the room bag slung over his shoulder. “Ready,” He said as he stood in the doorway. “Bye Big brother, bye Jou,” Mokuba said as he waved. Kaiba pat his brother on the shoulder before heading out the door. “Bye Mokuba,” Jou said as he followed Kaiba to the car waiting in front of the mansion. The two got in the car as it headed off to school. The drive was silent until they arrived at school. The arrival of the Kaiba car was often awaited for by girls whom fawned over the genius at their school. When Kaiba stepped out of the car there were countless eyes upon him, although none were expecting the second figure that stepped out behind him. The boys that were usually separated in the classroom by a consensus of all the teachers, were ones that no one expected to see together in a car, and not fighting at that. Jou and Kaiba walked through the open courtyard, as the eyes watching them slowly turned back to where they had been before. Jou looked to where he usual went in the morning, the gang’s hang out spot. He noticed the gang still looking at him, as Honda and Otogi stood together. Otogi’s hand holding onto Honda, dangerously close to grabbing his ass, and probably would have been there if he wasn’t afraid of being caught by the teachers. Honda turned, he hadn’t been looking before only expecting Kaiba which was nothing special to look at. When he noticed that Jou was walking with Kaiba, he ran over to talk to him. “What are you doing with the bastard?” Honda asked confronting Jou. “What does it matter to you?” Jou asked, standing up to Honda. “I may not be with you any more, but I’m still your best friend, and I know you hate this guy.” He said pointing towards Kaiba, who had just now stopped a few feet from where Honda and Jou were arguing. “Right now, you’re the bastard and he… he’s been more of a best friend in the last day than you have in a long time,” Jou spat back at Honda, who stood their confused. The two stood there at a stand still, the gang watching from afar not really expecting the two ‘best friends’ to be fighting. “What did I say last night, Jou. He’s not worth it.” Kaiba said, as he walked back next to Jou, glaring Honda down as if he were trying to protect Jou. Jou thought for a second, “You’re right, not worth it.” He said as he pushed down his anger and walked away, exuding confidence. Honda just watched shocked at Jou and Kaiba’s backs. Jou lead the way up to their classroom sliding the door open harshly, glad there were no classmates in the class already. Kaiba walked in behind, setting his bag down on his seat that was right next to the door. Jou seethed in anger, “Uhhhg,” he growled out before regaining his composure. “Thanks again, Kaiba.” Jou said as he walked back to his own seat on the opposite end of the classroom. The bell soon rang as the classroom filled with other students. Jou knew that today was going to be hard, especially since he was seated right next to Honda for the whole day. Homeroom passed fairly peacefully, although Jou could feel Honda glare at him almost every second that passed. It wasn’t until math that Jou knew he was in big trouble. The teacher asked the students to pair up with the person next to them, and Jou had no choice, but to be paired with Honda. Jou watched the teacher explain the problems as Honda furiously wrote a message in his notebook before shoving it onto Jou’s desk. Jou ignored it, not exactly ready to talk with Honda. Honda glared at Jou, until he got fed up and kicked Jou under the table. Jou glared back at Honda, kicking him back before he grabbed the notebook to read it. What the hell is going on? And why the fuck were you with KAIBA? Jou looked at Honda before writing back, You should know, what the ‘hell’ is going on. And what does it matter to you now? Honda read the note quickly before scribbling more down. What are you talking about, of course it matters to me. Jou glared at Honda before he grabbed the notebook and wrote a paragraph for Honda to read. YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT! You cheated on me and then within seconds of breaking up with me you and your new boyfriend were there in front of me , not only making out, but practically having sex! I had to run to the bathroom, because I felt like I had to throw up thanks to you assholes. Kaiba, regardless of me trying to punch him, and kick him, not to mention biting him, still was kind enough to take me to his house to hang out with him and Mokuba just to get my mind off of it all. I honestly don’t want to talk to you anytime soon because I’m trying to forget it all. Now can we stop this and actually get our work done? Jou shoved the notebook back to Honda glaring at the other, who realized all that he had done. Honda tore out the page from his notebook, crumbling it in his hand before they went on to work out the problems. The teacher allowed the students to work for another minute until he called up three pairs to do their work on the board. Kaiba and his partner, a small scared looking girl, on problem one. Honda and Jou on problem two, and Otogi and his partner on problem three. Jou worked out most of the problem on the board even correcting something they had missed when they had done the problem the first time. Honda although was ignoring their work and was slyly staring at Otogi who sat there against the board forcing his partner to do all the work. Kaiba worked out their problem letting the small girl explain it to the class as he whispered to Jou, “Everything ok?” he asked doubtfully having apparently noticed the glares being tossed between Honda and Jou moments earlier. Jou just nodded, waiting to be able to sit down. After the girl finished explaining, Jou took over to start explaining the work on his problem. He went through the work needed and even explained about the mistake they had made, and why it was easy to do that. Kaiba scoffed at Jou and Honda, almost as if he’d expected them to mess up, but Jou just ignored it to continue on with his work. When Otogi’s partner went on to explain the problem Jou watched Honda fawn over his new boyfriend. Jou elbowed Honda, who gritted his teeth and turned away from Otogi. The teacher thanked the students and went on to explain a few other rules to help with their homework assignment. As the lunch bell rung he called Jou up to talk to him as he excused the rest of the class. “I just wanted to tell you I was proud that you didn’t fight with Kaiba in front of the class today.” The teacher explained as he gathered his papers. “Ohh, yeah.” Jou said shrugging off the compliment. “Is there something wrong between you and Honda, I noticed you guys were acting different than normal.” “We just had a fight yesterday, we aren’t really speaking much… so it was a little weird working together,” Jou attempted to explain. “Ok, well I hope that everything gets solved,” The teacher said before leaving the class. Jou watched the teacher leave, still wondering why the teacher had said anything to him at all. Jou noticed that the gang had already moved their tables together to eat, as he went back to his seat to grab his food. He ignored the looks from them as he went over to sit with Kaiba. “Mind if I sit with you?” He asked quietly. Kaiba glanced up before going back to his food. “I’ll take that as a, you wont kill me for it at least.” Jou mumbled before pulling a chair over to Kaiba’s desk. “Jou, why are you sitting with me.” Kaiba asked between bites. “Sorry I know you have a reputation to uphold in front of other people,” Jou said pretending to actually be sorry, “But I have one too, and it wouldn’t be very me to sit alone at lunch.” He said smiling. Kaiba stared at Jou realizing that he wasn’t going to win. Kaiba went back to eating, letting Jou win for now knowing the boy probably wouldn’t be doing so well on his own. The rest of the day went fairly smoothly, and Jou was glad when it was just over. After hearing the last bell Jou headed out of class finding his way to the back stairs that most of the students avoided. Jou made it to the landing between the levels, taking a second to look out the window overlooking the school field. Jou noticed another presence, as he turned around to see Yugi right there next to him. He scooted away from his friend only to be cornered against the walls. It was then that he noticed that it wasn’t Yugi, but actually Yami. “Hi,” Jou said nervously, having never been on this end of Yami’s anger. He wasn’t quite sure why Yami was angry, but he figured he’d know soon. “Jou,” Yami said getting Jou’s attention before he continued. “What’s going on? You’re worrying aibou, and he wants to talk to you. Don’t lie to him, you don’t want to be on my bad side,” Yami finished, waiting for a nod from Jou. Yami changed places with Yugi, as the huge eyes adorned the now slightly shorter boy. “Jou, are you ok?” Yugi asked concerned. “It’s not your fault Yugi,” Jou said instantly hoping it would clear some of Yugi’s fear. “You know that’s not all of it Jou. You and Honda are fighting, I know, but what happened. I’m worried.” “Yugi, please don’t worry. Honda and I had a big fight yesterday, and I’m just not ready to talk to him. That’s all, I promise.” Jou said skipping some details. “I’ll stop avoiding you guys, I just needed some time to cool down.” Yugi sighed, but accepted what he was told. He was silent for a moment, as Jou assumed, he and Yami were communicating. “Jou,” Yugi started tentatively, “Yami says he wants to talk to you privately.” Yugi waited for the reaction of Jou, who simply nodded. Jou watched as the souls switched over again in front of his eyes. “Aibou, can’t hear this conversation so I want you to answer me truthfully.” Yami said as soon as he’d switched. “Aibou doesn’t know, but I knew that you and Honda were dating.” Jou was shocked, but he had always known Yami was more observing than anyone. “What happened, all of a sudden Otogi’s hanging all over Honda, and you’re avoiding everyone to go off and sit with Kaiba?” Jou was saddened, “I know…” he sighed before he told Yami what had happened. “Honda, kind of dumped me yesterday. It seems like he and Otogi have been together for a while regardless of whatever he and I had.” Jou ran his hands through his hair, not ready to have more pity thrown at him. “I’m sorry Jou,” Yami said solemnly, “That was inappropriate of him, but why are you hanging out with Kaiba?” Yami asked as he thought about it. “Kaiba, helped me deal with it yesterday.” Jou explained, “I guess he can be nice if he wants to.” Jou joked as he drew a fake smile. Jou was hugged suddenly by the small Yugi, he hadn’t even noticed had switched back. “I couldn’t hear anything I swear, but I could see that you’re hurt.” Yugi said almost ready to cry. “Please don’t fake smiles like that, I can tell when they aren’t real.” Jou smiled, and actually started laughing. “I’m sorry Yug’, I’ll be ok, I promise. Thanks for being here for me.” Jou hugged the smaller boy back. “How ‘bout you come home with me and spend the night?” Yugi offered as he locked arms with Jou leading them out of the school and to the game shop -----~~~~@@@~~~~----- Thanks for reading the chapter. I have started planning a continuation, but haven't quite gotten to start writing. There is always a lot to do, but I'm really excited to be writing again. Hope to see you soon! -Rad I'm sorry if the chapter is still doubling, something is not working well with this new system(new to me at least).
Fairly revamped version of this first chapter, hopefully a little less OOC Kaiba and better overall.
-----@@@@~~~@@@@-----
Seto Kaiba was walking out of school, although class had been over for a bit, he had been held back by a teacher who was unwilling to accept a late assignment.
I had to run out before I threw up.”
Jou took a deep breath before trying to swallow.
“Welcome to out home,” Mokuba said politely to Jou before switching back to his excitement, “How have you been, Jou?”
“Good, for the most part,” he said nervously rubbing his arm, but smiling just the same.
Yeah I will,” Jou smiled, “Thanks.”
Kaiba continued walking down the hallway, back towards the stairs.
“You didn’t have to yell at me to wake me up,”
“It worked,” Kaiba said, not sure that Jou realized how heavily he slept.
Jou looked at Honda before writing back,
You should know, what the ‘hell’ is going on.
“Is there something wrong between you and Honda, I noticed you guys were acting different than normal.”
“We just had a fight yesterday, we aren’t really speaking much… so it was a little weird working together,” Jou attempted to explain.
I’m worried.”
“Yugi, please don’t worry. Honda and I had a big fight yesterday, and I’m just not ready to talk to him. That’s all, I promise.” Jou said skipping some details. “I’ll stop avoiding you guys, I just needed some time to cool down.”
Yugi sighed, but accepted what he was told.
“Aibou doesn’t know, but I knew that you and Honda were dating.”
Jou was shocked, but he had always known Yami was more observing than anyone.
“What happened, all of a sudden Otogi’s hanging all over Honda, and you’re avoiding everyone to go off and sit with Kaiba?”
Jou was saddened, “I know…” he sighed before he told Yami what had happened. “Honda, kind of dumped me yesterday. It seems like he and Otogi have been together for a while regardless of whatever he and I had.”
Jou ran his hands through his hair, not ready to have more pity thrown at him.
“Please don’t fake smiles like that, I can tell when they aren’t real.”
Jou smiled, and actually started laughing. “I’m sorry Yug’, I’ll be ok, I promise. Thanks for being here for me.” Jou hugged the smaller boy back.
“How ‘bout you come home with me and spend the night?” Yugi offered as he locked arms with Jou leading them out of the school and to the game shop
